First Phosphate Corp CEO John Passalacqua, John Kem, President of American Battery Factory and CEO of Integrals Power Behnam Hormozi joined Steve Darling from Proactive to announce an exciting partnership aimed at producing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode active material (CAM) and LFP battery cells in North America. This collaborative effort is designed to support American Battery Factory's anticipated demand for up to 40,000 tonnes of locally sourced LFP CAM annually by 2028, ensuring a fully localized supply chain for LFP battery cell production in North America. The initiative, known as LFP Project America, has ambitions to eventually bring the entire production supply chain of LFP CAM, LFP battery cells, and storage devices for the battery storage sector to North America. Additionally, the companies plan to extend invitations to other suppliers to join the project group and contribute to this transformative initiative. The first phase involves the successful completion of a pilot project for LFP Project America. Following this milestone, the three parties will collaborate on the establishment of a North American supply plant dedicated to providing LFP CAM to American Battery Factory. First Phosphate Corp's access to clean igneous anorthosite phosphate-bearing rock in Quebec, Canada, which it intends to refine into a substantial quantity of battery-grade purified phosphoric acid, plays a crucial role in supporting LFP Project America's objectives. This strategic partnership signifies a significant step towards ensuring a domestic and sustainable supply chain for critical components in the burgeoning lithium battery industry in North America. It underscores the commitment of these companies to advancing renewable energy and battery technology in the region while reducing reliance on imports. #proactiveinvestors #firstphosphatecorp #cse #phos #otc #krspf#invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews #QuebecMining #CriticalMinerals #PhosphateIndustry #BatteryTechnology #MiningNews #ResourceDevelopment #MineralPrioritization #SustainableMining #QuebecGovernment #GlobalEconomy #HighPurityPhosphate #StrategicMinerals #MineralReserves #Agriculture #BatteryRevolution #ResourceSecurity #MiningInnovation #JohnPassalacqua #MineralExploration #CanadaMining #NaturalResources #MiningTrends #MineralSupplyChain #EnvironmentalImpact

RecycLiCo Battery Materials CEO Zarko Meseldzija joined Steve Darling from Proactive to share news the company, through partner C4V, has used the RecycLiCo's battery-ready waste material to create new battery cells. Meseldzija telling Proactive C4V completed a phase 1 qualification study, where the company's nickel-manganese-cobalt oxide precursor cathode material was converted into a proprietary cathode composition by C4V's supply chain partner, followed by cell production and performance evaluations by C4V.
General Motors said that a new electric vehicle battery plant built in Ohio has started producing cells, which could help customers get federal tax credits. The joint-venture plant near Warren, Ohio, is focused on training as it prepares to ramp up manufacturing. A spokeswoman for the venture said it is producing cells but they are not yet being shipped. They'll go into vehicles with GM's Ultium batteries, which currently include Hummer EVs, Chevrolet Silverado EV pickups and the Cadillac Lyriq electric SUV. Eventually, though, the plant should help GM's EVs meet requirements to qualify for a $7,500-per-vehicle federal tax credit. Under the Inflation Reduction Act recently signed into law, electric vehicles and their batteries must be manufactured in North America to get the credit. Battery minerals must be mined or recycled on the continent as well, or half the tax credit would be lost. And the batteries can't have any components from China, another difficult hurdle. The requirements are designed to build a North American supply chain for EVs so the country isn't reliant on China and other overseas countries. GM says it's working to meet the requirements. The Ohio plant built with battery maker LG Energy Solution is a step toward getting the credits, which are key to boosting electric vehicle sales. No automaker wants to put EVs on the market that cost $7,500 more than the competition. The $2.3 billion, 2.8-million-square-foot battery plant now employs 800 people, and eventually, it will have 1,300. The factory is near Lordstown, Ohio, where GM closed a huge small-car assembly plant. GM has a goal of making only electric passenger vehicles by 2035, and CEO Mary Barra has pledged to unseat Tesla as the top seller of EVs by the middle of this decade. Earlier this year, the CEO said that Tesla is going to soon push two-factor authentication after an ’embarrassing delay,’. A few months later, Tesla has now officially released its two-factor authentication feature to owners." User Haggy online explains more: "Once you set it up, both the app and web access will need the code. But you can also add a second device. If you have multiple drivers or devices, when it asks for the code, it will ask you which of your devices you want to get the code from. That's good, but if you have more than two drivers, then you will need to set up MFA for each one with a different email address. I tried that for my wife, and was able to authorize that email address for each car, but I couldn't find a way to do it for the Powerwall. So I set it back to my email address, which is now safer to share since there's MFA. It's also a PITA the way they implemented it, because many sites require the code but let you register the computer, and then don't prompt you again for a period of time if you elect that. Tesla doesn't seem to allow that." https://electrek.co/2020/10/06/tesla-launches-two-factor-authentication-protect-customers/ TESLA MODEL S PLAID WILL USE 4680 BATTERY CELLS WITH STRUCTURAL PACK "During Battery Day, Tesla unveiled a completely new structural battery pack consisting of new 4680 lithium-ion tabless cells. It also unveiled the new Model S Plaid, which the company's CEO Elon Musk has been talking about for a long time. And now we know that the new Model S Plaid will feature the all-new structural battery pack." says Tesmanian: "520+ miles range, 1100 horsepower, acceleration from 0-60 mph in less than 2 seconds, and top speed of 200 mph. The new type of 4680 lithium-ion cells will have five times more energy, 16% more range, and six times more power. In addition, the cells will be packaged in a new way within the car. Tesla will use its structural approach to integrate cells into the vehicle's structure." https://www.tesmanian.com/blogs/tesmanian-blog/tesla-model-s-plaid-will-use-4680-battery-cells-with-structural-pack MG ELECTRIC CAR IS A THIRD OF SALES Britain’s fastest-growing car brand and rapidly expanding EV marque is marking its best-ever month in the UK, having racked up 3,668 sales in September 2020. with almost a third of the volume attributed to the zero-emissions MG ZS EV. TESLA IS TOLD BY CALIFORNIA COUNTY ITS FACTORY CAN’T REOPEN YET" "Tesla Inc. was told by the California county that’s home to its lone U.S. auto-assembly plant that it can’t reopen the facility, hours after Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk made plans to do so." wrote Bloomberg Green today: "The county said in an emailed statement that it informed the company it didn’t meet criteria to reopen. Tesla aimed to restart the factory Friday afternoon, Musk told staff in an email seen by Bloomberg News. The CEO cited California Governor Gavin Newsom’s announcement earlier that he would let manufacturers in parts of the state resume operations starting Friday. What Musk didn’t mention in his memo was that Newsom also had said local authorities could remain more restrictive than the state. Another reason it’s unclear whether Tesla will be able to produce vehicles -- even if Alameda allows the company to reopen in Fremont -- is that its suppliers in other states aren’t able to operate yet." https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-05-08/tesla-aims-to-restart-fremont-plant-as-soon-as-friday-musk-says?sref=W369vOBR TESLA PATENTS A NEW BATTERY CELL THAT ELON MUSK HYPES AS ‘WAY MORE IMPORTANT THAN IT SOUNDS’ "Tesla has patented a new battery cell with a tabless electrode that Elon Musk hypes as “way more important than it sounds.”" reports electrek: "Current cells use a jelly-roll design in which the cathode, anode, and separators are rolled together and have a cathode tab and an anode tab to connect to the positive and negative terminals of the cell can. The new patent called “Cell with a Tabless Electrode” describes a new way to build cells in order to avoid this issue. For this particular new tabless electrode, CEO Elon Musk said on Twitter that this technology is “way more important than it sounds” without explaining more. More is expected to be announced at Tesla’s battery day in a few weeks." In the comments, morrisg had this to say and whilst i've read it a couple of times, i don't think i fully get it yet: "Wow, this has the capability of greatly reducing the internal cell resistance for the current paths into and out of the jelly roll. By providing a continuous path from the local anode or cathode active material across the width to the minus or plus electrode on the can, it eliminates lots of current conduction in the anode or cathode backing foil in the longitudinal direction of the jelly roll. That means you can also reduce the thickness of the foil backing as it isn't necessary to reduce the internal cell resistance along the major current path anymore. So, cheaper cells due to no tabs needed; cheaper due to thinner backing copper and aluminum foils; and better performance due to decreased internal cell resistance. Oh, and less internal heat generation too. So simple, so good. I expect this will be licensed to anyone adopting a cylindrical cell for high power applications like transportation or electrical grid storage." https://electrek.co/2020/05/07/tesla-patents-battery-cell-elon-musk-hypes-way-more-important-than-it-sounds/ TESLA MODEL Y VIDEO REVIEW BY KELLEY BLUE BOOK "As for quality issues. Our car’s b-pillar trim doesn’t fit right and neither does this lower bumper trim, the rear door alignment is slightly off, the rear seats are similarly uneven, and there’s a loud rattle coming from the rear somewhere. Among the 3 braking modes, I love Hold. You can accelerate and decelerate using just the accelerator in most situations and the Model Y comes to a perfect, buttery smooth stop every time. If you want a pragmatic electric vehicle, the Chevy Bolt, Hyundai Kona EV, and Nissan Leaf can all be had for much less, but the Model Y’s premium touches and technical strengths put it in another class. Prices for the limited ‘La Prima’ edition come in below the 30k threshold after government subsidies." according to electrive: "Fiat has now released UK pricing where the electric 500e will start from £29,500 after the £3,000 plug-in car grant (PiCG) is applied. That’s for the first 500 high-spec ‘La Prima’ first-edition models, with less expensive models to follow. Buyers can expect deliveries in late 2020 or early 2021, according to Fiat. Fiat says the La Prima edition is £1,400 cheaper than the highest-spec Mini Electric and offers a more extended range of 199 miles from a 42 kWh battery. Also compare it to the Honda e: The 100 kW version starts in the UK at £26,160, the 113 kW version at £28,660 after subsidies but offers no more than 220 km of range." https://www.electrive.com/2020/05/08/fiat-releases-first-500e-small-electric-car-edition-in-uk/ NISSAN PROBABLY HITS 500,000 EVS "Nissan is silent about it, but it seems that the company already sold about 500,000 all-electric cars globally. We knew that it was coming, as the LEAF was at about 450,000 several months ago and in one of the latest press releases (May 5, 2020), Nissan announced that the cumulative result is more than 470,000 LEAFs. We assume that 500,000 LEAFs should be reached within several months, by the end of 2020 - just in time to celebrate 10-years on the market since December 2010." says InsideEVs: "The second Nissan EV is the Nissan e-NV200, available in passenger and cargo versions in Europe and Japan. On May 7, Nissan announced that 42,000 were produced in Spain since 2014. Production and sales are not the same thing, but we guess that is enough to consider the level of 500,000 already crossed." https://insideevs.com/news/420665/nissan-ev-sales-500000/ VOLKSWAGEN INVESTS IN BATTERY OPERATIONS AT SALZGITTER The joint venture between Volkswagen Group and the Swedish battery producer Northvolt AB is gaining further momentum. It has been decided that Volkswagen itself will erect the buildings and infrastructure for the joint venture’s “Northvolt Zwei” factory that is to produce lithium-ion battery cells, in order to leverage synergies at the Salzgitter site – based on the existing Center of Excellence for Battery Cells. Some €450 million is to be invested in this project. The joint venture will then rent the factory space. Battery cell production at the plant is scheduled to commence in early 2024 with an initial production capacity of 16 gigawatt hours. In September 2019, Volkswagen and Northvolt established a joint venture to prepare for the large-scale production of lithium-ion batteries in Germany. Volkswagen’s commitment to erect the buildings and infrastructure is the next key strategic decision. Construction work at the site is scheduled to commence before the end of this year. https://www.volkswagenag.com/en/news/2020/05/Volkswagen_invests_in_battery_operations_at_Salzgitter.html CHINA ANNOUNCES NATIONAL STANDARD FOR WIRELESS EV CHARGING BASED ON WITRICITY’S TECH WiTricity’s patented technology is foundational to the Chinese national standard (“GuoBiao” or GB standard) for wireless EV charging ratified and published by the China Electricity Council (CEC) on April 28, 2020 and announced on May 6, 2020. Standardization is critical to large-scale deployment of for EVs both in China and around the world, allowing any equipped EV to use any standard wireless charger. For the past four years, WiTricity has been actively involved in the Chinese wireless EV charging standardization process. Chinese automakers and their Tier 1 suppliers rely on the GB standard committee to define the wireless EV charging solution to be deployed in China. The ratified standard is now a major market enabler for deployment on vehicles and in public charging infrastructure. WiTricity has worked closely with the GB standard committee on several significant technical matters, including efforts to harmonize the China standard with other international standards. Show #473 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Thursday 16th May 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I could find today to save you time. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. HONDA E READY FOR ORDER IN EUROPE "Honda’s first fully electric series model for the European market – the Honda e – can be reserved here in Europe with immediate effect. The reservation fee, which guarantees interested parties a place on the waiting list to order the electricity, is 800 pounds in the UK." says Electrive today: "Customers who have reserved the Honda e will be invited to their nearest dealer after the official order start in order to place their order and conclude a purchase contract. As far as the official technical data of the Honda e is concerned, it is only known that the range will be over 200 kilometres according to the WLTP standard." https://www.electrive.com/2019/05/16/honda-e-ready-for-order-in-europe/ TESLA’S ACQUISITION OF MAXWELL TECHNOLOGIES "Tesla today announced the completion of its acquisition of the battery and supercapacitor company Maxwell Technologies. This has been on the cards since early February and is in line with the recent timeline given in Tesla’s Q1 investor call. Maxwell’s battery dry electrode manufacturing process has already been piloted by Tesla, and will allow significant battery cost reductions and energy density improvements." writes Dr Max Holland for Cleantechnica: "Tesla’s current cell costs of around $100/kWh amount to approximately $3.5 billion in battery production costs per year (around 70 kWh per vehicle and 500,000 vehicles). Maxwell’s dry battery electrode manufacturing technology claims to allow a 10–20% cost reduction versus traditional wet-electrode manufacturing techniques." https://cleantechnica.com/2019/05/16/teslas-acquisition-of-maxwell-technologies-more-thoughts-information/ LILIUM REVEALS NEW AIR TAXI AS IT CELEBRATES MAIDEN FLIGHT Lilium, the Munich-based startup developing a revolutionary on- demand air taxi service, today revealed its new five-seater air taxi prototype for the first time. The unveiling of the new Lilium Jet came as the all-electric aircraft completed its maiden flight in the skies over Germany earlier this month. The full-scale, full-weight prototype is powered by 36 all-electric jet engines that allow it to take-off and land vertically, while achieving remarkably efficient horizontal, or cruise, flight. The simplicity of the aircraft design, with no tail, no rudder, no propellers, no gearbox and only one moving part in the engine not only contributes to the safety and affordability of the aircraft, but it has also allowed the design team to focus their efforts on creating a magical customer experience in the cabin, from panoramic windows to gull-wing doors. With a top speed of 300 km/h and a range of 300km, the Lilium Jet is capable of completing much longer journeys than the majority of its competitors. This is, in part, thanks to the fixed wing design of the aircraft. While drone-based aircraft consume much of their energy keep- ing an aircraft in the air, the Lilium Jet can rely on the lift generated by the fixed wing to do this, meaning it will require less than ten percent of its maximum 2000 horsepower during cruise flight. This efficiency, which is comparable to the energy usage of an electric car over the same distance, means the aircraft would not just be capable of connecting suburbs to city centers and airports to main train stations, but would also deliver affordable high-speed connections across entire regions. VOLKSWAGEN SAYS EV BATTERIES TO LAST "THE LIFE OF THE CAR" "In an announcement last month, Volkswagen joined Nissan and Tesla as the only automakers to explicitly warranty not just the batteries in its cars but specifically how much life it expects them to retain. Frank Blome, the head of VW's Center of Excellence in Battery Cells, said in an outward facing internal marketing interview that the company expects the battery packs in its upcoming line of ID cars to last "the life of the cars," he said." for GreenCarReports: "Batteries for the Audi E-tron quattro, the first all-electric car from the Volkswagen Group's luxury division come from Korean supplier LG Chem. LG's South Korean rival, SK Innovation, which was just sued by LG Chem at the International Trade Commission, will supply batteries for VW's new products in Europe as well as the U.S. SKI is building new battery factories in Hungary and the U.S. state of Georgia to supply the batteries. In China, VW will rely on local batteries from CATL." https://www2.greencarreports.com/news/1122910_volkswagen-says-ev-batteries-to-last-the-life-of-the-car TESLA SUPERCHARGER V3 PRODUCTION UNDERWAY AT GIGAFACTORY 2 "Tesla diversifies its production at the Gigafactory 2 in Buffalo, NY, which now includes also new V3 Supercharger cabinets and other electrical components for Powerwall and Powerpack storage systems." according to InsideEVs: "According to media reports, Tesla decided to add new products at the Gigafactory 2, because the solar business "slumps" to a fraction of installed capacity. The Solar Roof ramp-up didn't reach volume scale and reportedly needs further development/tests, while low sales of standard solar panels forced Panasonic to sell "the great majority" of the solar cells to foreign buyers. Tesla is required to increase the number of employee to 1,460 by the end of April 2020 and it seems that the production of non-solar products is the only safe way to meet the requirements. Currently, the number of Tesla and Panasonic employees is 730 (329 Tesla and 401 Panasonic), above the required 500 by the end of April 2019." https://insideevs.com/news/349938/tesla-supercharger-v3-production-gigafactory-2/ COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. Show #448 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Friday 19th April 2019. BUGGY WOULD BE A LOW-VOLUME HALO EV "Volkswagen has developed a penchant for bringing modern takes of some of its most famous vehicles to the world’s auto shows as all-electric concepts. Unfortunately, none of those concepts has made it through to production (yet), and with the Beetle on its way out the door, the German brand’s lineup will soon be without any heritage-inspired models. But the Volkswagen I.D. Buggy could change that." writes Brandon for Motor1.com today: "Speaking to Motor1.com as part of a media roundtable during the first day of the 2019 New York Auto Show, Volkswagen of American CEO Scott Keogh confirmed that his company would like to find a way to put a production I.D. Buggy into showrooms, saying “I think it's a good brand halo and I think it's a good brand building opportunity.” The path to production for the I.D. Buggy is still far from clear, though. According to Keogh, VW is still developing a business case for the car. If it does arrive in dealers, though, it will be as a very low-volume product. But the Buggy is uniquely positioned for service as a halo car." https://www.motor1.com/news/345334/volkswagen-id-buggy-production-halo-ev/ KIA HABANIRO CONCEPT IS AN AWD ELECTRIC WONDER CAR FOR EVERYONE "Kia filled its press release for the HabaNiro concept with so much bombast hoisted aloft by adjectives and acronyms that we don't know what to make of the actual concept" said Autoblog today" Conceived and designed at the Kia Design Center America (KDCA) in California, the HabaNiro's labeled "a whole new category of mobility – 'The Everything Car' or ECEV." The "fully-electric, all-wheel drive, four-seat wonder car" goes more than 300 miles between charges, has butterfly wing doors and Level 5 autonomy. On the other hand, considering this is a concept, the boasts and technology could be considered humble. Kia says "this is no fanciful supercar that will likely never be built, but a prescient look into the future of mobility where automobiles will seamlessly integrate design, capability, usefulness and creativity." https://www.autoblog.com/2019/04/17/kia-habaniro-concept-nyias/ NIKOLA WOWS HUGE CROWD WITH FIVE ZERO-EMISSION VEHICLES "Nikola Motor Company went all out with its big reveal, showcasing five future vehicles, including the Nikola Two, Tre, NZT, Wav, and Reckless." says Steven Loveday for InsideEVs.com: "In a time when many startups are struggling to move forward in the segment, and some legacy automakers continue to push concept after concept with little to show, it’s difficult for companies like Nikola to earn support. Not to mention that it first came along as what seemed to be a “hydrogen only” automaker. Now, it seems that’s not necessarily the case. In fact, Nikola CEO Trevor Milton admitted that hydrogen is not efficient and not practical in many cases. However, for fleet vehicles and military use, it could definitely have its merits." Nikola said: "There are currently more than 13,000 Nikola trucks on order. The Nikola trucks feature up to 1,000 horsepower and 2,000 ft-lbs of torque. Nikola recently announced a battery-electric vehicle option for the urban, short haul trucking market. In the comments Micke Larrson: "“There are currently more than 13,000 Nikola trucks on order. ” No, there hasn’t been a single order yet. Free reservations for everyone is not an order. It’s not that hard, if you don’t sign anything, commit to anything and don’t pay for anything it is nowhere close to being an order of any kind. And there is still no sign on how they will build, sell and make any kind of economic sense out of these vaporware presentations. It is way too early to call it anything but vaporware." https://insideevs.com/nikola-wows-crowd-five-zero-emission-vehicles/ TESLA’S ELON MUSK REPORTEDLY SPOKE WITH POLISH PM ABOUT ELECTROMOBILITY ADOPTION Plenty of outlets today talked about a possible Tesla Gigafactory in Poland, but I'll pick up from Teslarati: "In a recent statement, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki admitted that he had spoken to Elon Musk about initiatives that could push electromobility further. While it took some time for the conversation to be arranged, the Prime Minister noted that he was able to speak with the Tesla CEO directly. Poland is also among the countries which are looking to be the site for Tesla’s Europe Gigafactory, which Elon Musk has mentioned in the past. Musk discussed Gigafactory 4 (a tentative name for the upcoming facility) back in July 2018, stating that Germany is the leading choice for the Europe-based factory. Poland, for its part, has noted that its initiatives such as its Strategy for Responsible Development and organizations such as the Polish Development Fund will support Tesla if the company builds Gigafactory 4 in the country" https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-elon-musk-polish-prime-minister-gigafactory-4-electromobility/ JAGUAR IS DEVELOPING AN ELECTRIC CAR TO JOIN I-PACE CROSSOVER "Straight from nabbing the World Car of the Year award at the New York International Auto Show for the new 2019 I-Pace electric crossover, as well as publicly unveiling the 2020 XE sport sedan, Jaguar's design chief says the brand is also developing a car with a fully electric powertrain." according to Sven Gustafson for Autoblog: "We are doing more battery cars at Jaguar, yes," Ian Callum told Autoblog. "That's all I'm saying." Callum wouldn't divulge further details except to add, "When you're doing electric cars, they're new cars. They're not just batteries put in an old car. You can't do that." https://www.autoblog.com/2019/04/17/jaguar-electric-car/ TESLA CAPTURES 45% OF ELECTRIC CAR SALES IN EUROPE IN MARCH Mark Kane at InsideEVs.com has the latest on the Model 3 sales in Europe: "Sales of new passenger electric cars in Western Europe reached new record levels in March and in the first quarter, mostly thanks to a full month of volume deliveries of the Tesla Model 3. According to industry analyst Matthias Schmidt (schmidtmatthias.de), the total number of registrations amounted to 40,400 in March at 2.5% market share, and 80,900 in Q1 at 2.1% market share. With around 44.8% market share among BEVs, Tesla is a new undisputed market leader, although not as dominant as in the U.S., where 75% share was achieved in March (which is not even a record)." https://insideevs.com/march-ev-sales-europe-40000-tesla/ TESLA IS PLANNING A BIGGER MODEL S/X REFRESH THAN WE THOUGHT Electrek has the big rumour story today: "Tesla is planning a full powertrain refresh that could launch at the same time as the previously reported interior design refresh. Earlier this month, we reported on Tesla’s Project Raven; an electric motor upgrade coming for Model S and Model X. Sources with access to Tesla’s latest software told Electrek that the code shows that the automaker is now working on Model S and Model X vehicles with the same battery architecture based on the 2170 battery cells found in Model 3." https://electrek.co/2019/04/17/tesla-model-s-x-refresh-upgrade/ CANADIAN PRICING REVEALED FOR KIA SOUL EV & NIRO EV One of the Canadian dealers – Brantford Kia – shared info about the two new Kia BEVs that are coming to Canada this year. The presentation is a little chaotic, but it includes the prices, which is the most interesting part: Kia Soul EV (e-Soul) – $42,595 CAD ($31,852 USD) Kia Niro EV (e-Niro) – $44,995 CAD ($33,647 USD) *both with 64 kWh battery and 150 kW electric motor https://insideevs.com/canadian-price-kia-soul-ev-niro-ev/ VW: “OUR BATTERIES LAST THE LIFE OF A CAR” Frank Blome, Head of Volkswagen’s Center of Excellence for Battery Cells said in an interview today: "Our aim is always for our batteries to last as long as the cars. We guarantee a minimum capacity of 70 percent for eight years or 160,000 kilometers. But drivers can also influence the length of a battery’s service life. Normal charging is better for the batteries than rapid charging, and charging the batteries up to just 80 instead of 100 percent also increases their service life. Many customers tend to drive short distances, like going to work or going shopping. The battery doesn’t have to be charged 100 percent for that. You do your driving and charge the car when needed, usually at your home wallbox. For our next MEB models we’re currently working with three partners as strategic suppliers of battery cells. They are LG Chem and SKI for Europe, and CATL for China. SKI will also supply our battery cells for the US market." BATTLE OF THE BIG AUTO MAKERS Leaders of the Auto industry have been talking to journalists at New York Auto Show. Scott Keogh, CEO of VW U.S, talked openly to the press about TEsla's Model 3: "“Even if it’s 10 percent of the market, we want to pursue it. We have not seen in the history of the auto business, a company going from zero to fourth place in luxury in a matter of a few years.” Bob Carter, executive vice president of sales for Toyota Motor North America, said: "The average vehicle today costs $34,000 and for many EVs, the battery costs $34,000. The economics are not there.” https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-04-16/toyota-pooh-poohs-electric-cars-as-volkswagen-vows-an-embrace HARLEY-DAVIDSON OPENS PRE-ORDERS IN EUROPE & CANADA FOR LIVEWIRE ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE Micah Toll for Electrek notes that another electric bike is now open for orders: "Harley-Davidson has indicated while pre-orders are now open in Europe, there will be a limited supply of LiveWire electric motorcycles available on the continent. LiveWire deliveries in Europe are expected to begin this fall, which will also align with deliveries in the US. The price of the LiveWire in the UK has been set at £28,995 (or about US $37,800). That’s a substantial increase over the US price of $29,799." https://electrek.co/2019/04/18/harley-davidson-livewire-pre-orders-europe-canada/ ONCE-HAILED ‘TESLA KILLER’ AUDI E-TRON SLOWS DOWN PRODUCTION TO JUST 6 HRS/DAY: REPORT "The Audi e-tron, once dubbed by avid Tesla critics as a potential “Tesla Killer,” is reportedly running into production problems due to a constrained supply of batteries and a slower-than-expected delivery of electric motors." says Simon at Teslarati picking up on an article by The Brussels Times: "The local publication’s sources claim that LG Chem is pushing up prices, resulting in Audi having to compete with rival automakers like BMW and Mercedes-Benz to acquire batteries for the e-tron. This is but half of the e-tron plant’s current issues, according to the Times‘ sources. Audi is reportedly seeing delays in the deliveries of the e-tron’s electric motors as well." https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-killer-audi-etron-battery-production-update/ COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week.
