Bouncing Bogs: At the source of a river

Have you ever stood beside a river and imagined where it all begins? In this episode of Waterlands, Megan McCubbin takes us to the Flow Country in Scotland, home to the world's largest expanse of blanket bog, where water seeps slowly through a maze of pools before feeding rivers like the Thurso. Joined by someone who's spent a lot of time in this ecosystem, Millie Revel Hayward, Megan explores this fascinating and fluid landscape, discovering how the bog acts like a sponge, absorbing rain and releasing pure water into the ecosystem. As they bounce on the waterlogged land, like a natural trampoline, they reveal how this ancient peatland supports everything from breeding salmon to rare wading birds like the golden plover. Dr. Mark Everard explains the complex, interconnected systems of rivers, from their underground sources to the impact of human activities like farming. He shares how changes in the landscape can shift a river's path and flow before it even reaches the surface. And artist Kathy Hinde dives into the sounds of the bog, crafting a unique soundscape from beneath the blanket of moss, capturing the rhythms of this hidden world. Featuring: Milly Revill Hayward (RSPB Scotland), Dr. Mark Everard (Author and Environmental Scientist) and Kathy Hinde, Presented by Megan McCubbin If this episode has inspired you to take action for wetlands or discover more about our rivers, visit wwt.org.uk Waterlands is brought to you by WWT. The North Coast 500 is often referred to as Scotland's equivalent to America's route 66! It's a 500 mile round trip from our northernmost city, Inverness and takes you to the far north of Scotland and through the Northern highlands. It was created in 2014 by the North Highland Initiative, a non-profit organization as a way of boosting economic growth across the region. The NC500 is not a single road or highway like Route 66 but instead is a series of existing roads that form a loop. It's become a major tourism success story in Scotland with tens of thousands of people having already driven the route. The Scenery includes rugged coastline, beaches, farmland, rivers, forests, lochs, and mountains. You'll also see local wildlife such as deer, squirrels, birds of prey, seabirds, and sea life such as dolphins, whales and seals. There are plenty of sheep and highland cows as well as things to see and do along the way like castles, heritage sites, museums, spectacular beaches, whisky distilleries, breweries and much more. Spend at least 5 days on the route to give yourself time to enjoy the scenery and attractions along the way but you can do it in a few days. The best time is in the summer months when attractions are open and roads are unlikely to be closed You can go in either direction, but if you are new to driving in Scotland then I recommend going anticlockwise and heading up to John O Groats first as the roads in this direction are easier to navigate and it means you are keeping some of the best scenery and worst driving conditions till last. The route will go past some spectacular coastal scenery, At John O Groats you can take photos next to the famous signpost with signs showing distances to various destinations or take a detour over to the Orkney Isles. Heading round the coast will bring you to Thurso, our Northernmost town where there's a great whisky distillery called Wolfburn, pretty good whisky. You come into areas deserted during the Highland clearances when tenants were forced off their land, many Scottish crofters emigrated to Canada and the United States. Make a stop in Durness to see the Smoo caves and indulge in some chocolate at Cocoa Mountain. It's pretty windy round here but you'll be hard pushed to find fresher air. You'll be spoilt for choice scenery wise and finally you'll reach the town of Ullapool, gateway to the Outer Hebrides and a wonderful wee town with some great seafood restaurants. From Ullapool down to Applecross is where the driving gets a bit trickier with single track roads and some sharp bends, blind summits and the rest. There are plenty of opportunities to get off the beaten track, instagrammable photo opportunities at every turn and the views will truly take your breath away. So now for some driving etiquette, the roads in this part of Scotland can be quite narrow and winding so keep your speed down as you never know what will be around the corner! There may be sheep or cows or even deer on the roads, a tractor or a cyclist. Some parts of the NC 500 will be single track roads which means only 1 car can pass at a time the side of the road you will find passing places, usually marked by a black and white sign where you can pull over to let the car coming in the opposite direction pass by. The custom is that if you see a car approaching, you pull into the next passing place on your side of the road. If someone is coming uphill, you give them priority and passing places can also be used to let traffic overtake you especially if you are driving slowly to enjoy the scenery. If someone flashes their headlights at you, they are usually indicating that you can go first, and 1 final thing, it is customary to thank the other drivers for letting you pass by raising your hand Passing places are not parking places so don't stop there to take photos, this could quickly block the road and the locals will be far from impressed. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/adventuresinenglish/message

I was travelling to Thurso with a friend (we’re in the same bubble), to pick up a prescription. It was a nice enough day. No wind, no rain. Clear and cold. The drive to town seemed normal enough, though I sensed something felt different about the car. I wondered if there was a problem with the steering, but quickly dismissed my concerns. My friend was driving and I didn’t want to bother him. We managed to pick up the prescription and drove back through Castletown, stopping at a shop on the way. However, as we headed back towards Freswick I could hear a very faint ‘wobble’ noise, but figured it was just the cold or the rough road. Gradually the vibrating wobble sound became louder. Initially my friend thought it might be a door that hadn’t been shut properly (although privately I thought this interpretation might be a fatal miscalculation), so I turned round to check the rear doors, but there was no problem. There was, of course, a worse problem. The realisation hit us both at the same time - the back tire had blown, the smell of burnt rubber quickly filling the air. We pulled over into a narrow lay-by in front of someone’s house and got out of the car. My friend sighed and quietly pulled out the safety tyre from the back of the car along with a rather pathetic looking jack. ‘This is never very efficient,’ he said dryly. Fifteen minutes later, when we were both frozen to the bone, he had successfully established that point. He had not successfully changed the tyre, of course, but had managed to wedge the jack awkwardly under the car and was unable to retrieve it. He murmured to himself ‘I knew I should have called in at Halford’s last time I was in Inverness to get a better jack for an occasion like this. However, annoyingly, I couldn’t be bothered at the time.’ Bowing to the inevitable, we called the local garage, which - as luck would have it - was less than half a mile away and (amazingly in these times) was open. They were incredibly helpful and sent their mechanic to us within 10 minutes. He pulled over, cheerily greeted us with a muffled hello behind his face mask, and went straight to the car, crouching down beside the wheel. At first we didn’t recognise him in his orange overalls and because of the mask that was covering half his face. My friend chatted to him for a while without realising that he knew him. Such is the weird world of masks and disguises in our Covid-19 existence. The mechanic was in fact quite shocked not to be recognised because he had often come down to Freswick and helped his brother with mowing the fields. All three of us laughed about this occupational hazard of the lockdown, a world where friends and even relatives can sometimes pass each other unawares in the street. However, I found it very heartwarming that in the tight-knit community of Caithness, even the local garage mechanic turned out to have another connection with us! While he pulled some tools out of his car, a pedestrian was approaching on the other side of the road. As he came closer, we saw that it was someone else we knew. He stopped and chatted from across the road, soon to go on his way again to keep warm, but not before saying a few words to the young mechanic who (you get the picture) he clearly knew very well… It was a very cold day. I was moving around and flapping my arms to ward off the chill, whilst waving oncoming cars past as the little ‘pop-up community’ conversed. My phone 'tinged'…. a message. Another friend, had recognised us moments before, noticing the soft tyre while driving behind us on a stretch of road near Dunnet. He had tried to get hold of me, and eventually turned off the main road to go a different way, hoping that all would be well... www.moniquesliedrecht.com

Kaar recently created a replica of Robert’s moss box to honor his work. This was a little box that Robert used to carry moss back to his bakery. Now Joanne's moss box features fold-down flaps with delightful discoveries that call to mind the spirit of Robert Dick. And I share a video of Joanne's marvelous creation in the Facebook Group for the show. So if you want to check it out, it's a masterpiece, and it's a thrill to see that video. I followed up with Joanne, and when I emailed her, I asked for her insights on Robert. And Joanne replied with a lovely interview she did back in 2017. Here’s an excerpt: “Wearing a swallowtail coat, jeans, and a chimney-pot hat, Robert Dick often had children following him from his bakery in Thurso, as they were curious to know what he was doing on his walks. He was not only a baker but also a renowned self-taught botanist, a geologist, and a naturalist. Interested in entomology, he collected moths, beetles, butterflies, and bees. To bring the samples home he pinned them to the inside of his hat.”  She continues, “Dunnet Head was one of his favorite places to walk, describing it as having a forest of ferns. Dunnet Head Lighthouse was built in 1831, an event Robert Dick must have witnessed. Robert Dick saved old letters, envelopes, newspapers, and documents to keep his collection of small plants and mosses in.  His herbarium collection is now in Caithness Horizons Museum, Thurso, and contains around 3,000  specimens.” Now when I was researching Rober,t I stumbled on an old document by Sir Roderick Murchison, the Director-General of the Geographical Society. Roderick delivered a wonderful speech at Leeds in September 1858, where he mentioned meeting the multi-talented baker Robert Dick. “In pursuing my research in the Highlands… it was my gratification.. to meet with a remarkable man in the town of Thurso, named Robert Dick, a baker by trade. I am proud to call him my distinguished friend. When I went to see him, he spread out before me a map of Caithness and pointed out its imperfections. Mr. Dick had traveled over the whole county in his leisure hours and was thoroughly acquainted with its features. He delineated to me, by means of some flour which he spread out on his baking board... its geographical features. (How clever of Robert to use flour to show the topography of the county!) Here is a man who is earning his daily bread by his hard work; who is obliged to read and study by night; and yet who can instruct the Director-General of the Geographical Society. But this is not half of what I have to tell you of Robert Dick. When I became better acquainted with this distinguished man and was admitted into his sanctum—which few were permitted to enter—I found there busts of Byron, of Sir Walter Scott, and other great poets. I also found books, carefully and beautifully bound, which this man had been able to purchase out of the savings of his single bakery. I also found that Robert Dick was a profound botanist. I found, to my humiliation, that this baker knew infinitely more of botanical science—ay, ten times more—than I did; and that there were only some twenty or thirty British plants that he had not collected… These specimens were all arranged in most beautiful order, with their respective names and habitats.” After Robert’s death on this day in 1866, a memorial obelisk was installed to honor him in the Thurso Cemetery. Today, the curator at Caithness Horizons Museum, Joanne Howdle, has digitalized the precious Robert Dick Herbarium.   December 24, 1889 On this day, the White House's first Christmas tree was set in place to delight "Baby McKee," the favorite grandson and namesake of President Benjamin Harrison. A 1967 article from the Indianapolis Star said, “There had never been a Christmas tree in the White House before. Some people thought the whole thing pretty frivolous but President Harrison was adamant and set the gardeners to finding the just-right tree. It was to be tall and full and round like the trees he had had when he was a boy and found oranges and nuts in the toes of his stockings.” All through Christmas Eve afternoon, the White House gardeners worked to set the tree in place in the library over the Blue Room. No one was permitted to decorate the tree; that honor was reserved for the president and his wife. However, history tells us that the gardeners all stayed to watch. After dinner, President Harrison and first lady Caroline Scott Harrison decorated the tree with fat ropes of tinsel and old-fashioned candles. The President crowned the tree with a large star, and the first lady "stretched and stooped to fill the branches with presents." The Harrison White House at Christmas was the picture of a classic Victorian holiday scene. One can almost imagine the scene that day - with Baby McKee or little Benjamin - his wispy blond hair, sailor hat, and long white hand-tucked dress imitating the President as he walked the library with his lamb on wheels behind him. Benjamin was also quite taken with his jack-in-the-box.   December 24, 1936  Today is the anniversary of the death of the influential English gardening author and instructor, Frances Garnet Wolseley. A lifelong single lady, Frances devoted herself to gardening and gardening education. In 1902, on her thirtieth birthday, Frances created the Glynde College for Lady Gardeners on her father’s garden in East Sussex. Although her classes had only around a dozen students, Frances managed to attract some famous students included Gertrude Jekyll, Ellen Willmott, and William Robinson. And online, there’s a fantastic picture of Frances that shows her mowing a lawn with a push and pull mower with the help of one of her students - they're both standing on either side of this thing -  it took two people to run it. It’s hard to believe, but in the early 1900s, pictures of women mowing were being shown in advertisements for lawnmowers - they were trying to appeal to women to mow the lawn. In her 1908 book, Gardening for Women, Frances wrote, “It must be borne in mind that horticulture is still a comparatively new profession for women and that unless those who enter it strive to give full time and application to learning its details they cannot hope to be successful ...they should spare no pains to gain a complete education, for only then … can they expect remuneration.”   Unearthed Words Someone painted pictures on my Windowpane last night — Willow trees with trailing boughs And flowers, frosty white, And lovely crystal butterflies; But when the morning sun Touched them with its golden beams, They vanished one by one. — Helen Bayley Davis, American poet and writer, Jack Frost   Grow That Garden Library Gardens of Style by Janelle McCulloch This book came out in 2018, and the subtitle is Private Hideaways of the Design World. In this book, Janelle takes us to visit the inspiring private gardens of celebrated fashion and design tastemakers. Thanks to Janelle's work, we can understand how these beautiful sanctuaries - these gardens - have influenced creative work and life. Throughout history, Mother Nature has been a frequent source of inspiration in fashion and design. Fashion designers like Christian Dior to have used gardens and botanicals in their collections. Like us, these designers and their interior design counterparts find that gardens restore their creativity and revitalize their energy. Janelle's book takes us, "from the lush foliage of the Dominican Republic to the graceful flowerbeds of America’s East Coast, the charming roses and clipped boxwood of England’s country manors, and the patterned parterres of France’s enchanting Provence region—Gardens of Style illustrates the symbiotic relationship between horticulture and haute couture and between nature’s beautiful forms and those found in interior design. For instance, the garden of former Hermès designer Nicole de Vésian (duh-VAY-zee-an) is a sublime weave of patterns and textures, while the garden of Christian Dior features many of the roses that inspired his glamorous gowns." This book is 240 pages of beautifully photographed gardens to delight and inspire, along with stories that show the connection between trendsetters and their horticultural havens - it's a beautiful coffee table book. You can get a copy of Gardens of Style by Janelle McCulloch and support the show using the Amazon Link in today's Show Notes for around $14.   Today’s Botanic Spark Reviving the little botanic spark in your heart   Over the years, newspapers have shared a parody of The Night Before Christmas, written by Charles and Janice Jensen in the 1960s. The original version first appeared in the New York Times, and as I share it with you, you'll realize how far we've come since the 1960s in terms of our daily gardening practice.  I'll share this version first, and then I have another version written in the 1980s - twenty years later. The Jensen version goes like this: Twas the night before Christmas and all through the yard The branches were bare and the ground frozen hard. The roses were dormant and mulched all around To protect them from damage if frost heaves the ground. The perennials were nestled all snug in their beds While visions of 5-10-10 danced in their heads. The new planted shrubs had been soaked by the hose To settle their roots for the long winters doze. And out on the lawn, the new-fallen snow Protected the roots of the grasses below. When what to my wondering eyes should appear But a truck full of gifts of gardening gear. Saint Nick was the driver, the jolly old elf And he winked as he said, I’m a gardener myself. I've brought wilt-proof, rootone, and B-nine, too. Father can try them and see what they do. To eliminate weeding, I’ve brought 2-4-D, And to battle the bugs, 5 percent DDT. To seed your new lawn, I’ve a patented sower; And since it will grow, here’s a new power mower. For seed planting days, I’ve a trowel and a dibble. And a roll of wire mesh if the rabbits should nibble. For the feminine gardener, some gadgets she loves, Plant stakes, a sprinkler, and waterproof gloves; A chemical agent for her compost pit, And for enjoying the flowers, a flower arranging kit. With these colorful flagstones, lay a new garden path. For the kids to enjoy, a new bird feeder and bath. And last, but not least, some well-rotted manure. A green Christmas year-round, these gifts will ensure. Then jolly St. Nick, having emptied his load, Started his truck and took to the road. And I heard him exclaim through the engines loud hum: Merry Christmas to all and to all a green thumb!   Well, things have changed a lot since the 1960s. So if you were a little shocked by what you heard in that version, that was standard gardening protocol for that decade. By 1987, Carolyn Roof in Paducah, Kentucky, had written her own version for gardeners in her garden column. Here’s an excerpt from hers: Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the garden not a creature was stirring, not even a wren. The work tools were hung in the tool shed with care, in hope that springtime soon would be there. The flowers were mulched all snug in their bed, while visions of show winners danced in my head. And Richard in his blanket and I with the cat had settled down for a long winter's chat. When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the chair to see what was the matter. Away to the window, I flew like a flash, tore open the drapes and threw up the sash. When what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a miniature UPS truck and eight tiny gardeners, With a little old driver so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick. More rapid than eagles his workers they came, and he whistled and called them by name. Now Shepard, Now Appleseed, Now Thompson and Morgan, On Wayside, On Burpee, On Parks and Starks. As the dry leaves that before the wild tornado fly when they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky. So on to the patio, the gardeners flew with a truck full of tools, plants, and flowers, too. And then in a twinkling, I heard by the glade, the digging and planting of each little blade. As I drew in my head and was turning around, past the sliding glass door, he came with a bound. He was dressed all in grubbies, mud boots on his feet, and his clothes were all soiled with mulches and peat. A bundle of tools, plants, and bulbs were on his back, and he looked like a nurseryman opening his pack. He spoke not a word but went on with his work, and landscaped the yard, then turned with a jerk. He sprang to his truck, to his team gave a whistle, and away they all drove like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight, "Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night."   However, my favorite ending is from the first poem. Here's how the Jensens ended their poem: And I heard him exclaim through the engines loud hum: Merry Christmas to all and to all a green thumb!   Thanks for listening to The Daily Gardener this year. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. And remember: "For a happy, healthy life, garden every day."

UK aims to accelerate the ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles, bringing it forward by five years to 2030, as part of a £4bn ‘green industrial revolution.’ £1.3bn of investment has also been pledged towards electric vehicle (EV) charging points, as well as grants for EV buyers stretching to £582m to help people make the transition, whilst there is also nearly £500m for battery manufacture. UK aids companies such as AMTE Power The UK government has insisted that it would collaborate with the UK motor industry to aid the mass production of electric vehicles and lithium-ion batteries that power them, but the sector is already struggling to keep up with the surge in demand. This questions whether the country and Boris Johnson’s cabinet will be able to meet deadlines and have a sufficient supply of electric vehicles in less than 10 years. To support the expanding electric vehicle market – which will make up 1 in 5 of all car sales by 2026 – the creation of an onshore full-cycle supply chain and return of the investment ecosystem needs to be prioritised during Boris Johnson’s tenure as prime minister. We have Kevin Brundish, the founder and CEO of the UK’s only full-cycle battery manufacturer AMTE Power, who is available for an interview to discuss the new challenges facing the strained sector and what needs to be done in order to hit the new 2030 target. Kevin Brundish, CEO at AMTE Power comments: “This is obviously fantastic news and accelerates the electrification of cars, which is a significant step in meeting the country’s climate change targets. For businesses like ours, which are targeting the development and supply of innovative battery cell products, this continued government support, which goes alongside financial support packages such as the Faraday Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund and the Automotive Transformation Fund, will help to create the right investment environment for us to grow here in the UK. This accelerated transition to electrification will require an onshore supply chain for the electric vehicle’s most crucial component, the lithium-ion battery, the creation and growth of which will also stimulate the wider economy and create much-needed jobs. AMTE Power’s own manufacturing expansion plans are very much aligned with this onshore supply chain need.” About AMTE Power AMTE Power works with clients and partners to scale new battery cell technologies through to manufacture and supply. AMTE helps in the early stages of development and design for manufacture and has developed advanced lithium battery cells for a range of end-user markets. AMTE’s cells show significant technological development over traction battery cells currently available. Offering almost an order of magnitude by providing information and characterisation of battery cells, whilst simultaneously eliminating more than half of a conventional BMS, the smart cell technology has the potential to revolutionise the next generation of automotive EV and HEV battery packs, with significant safety and weight advantages, it is especially attractive in the world of marine and aerospace as well as Electric Vehicles. AMTE’s battery production facility has a unique cell manufacturing plant in Thurso, Scotland. It is a direct replica of the large-scale cell manufacturing process, supporting prototyping and development of new technology on schedule. More about Irish Tech News and Business Showcase here. The best surf season at Thurso is in the Winter. Iona and Finn talk of the delight of getting into the sea, steaming because the water at 6 degrees is warmer than the air, and paddling out past chunks of ice that have broken off from the rivers that flow into the sea and floated out into the waves. We also look into the history of surfing - including cameos from Mark Twain and Col Mad Jack Churchill - and how and when it arrived in the Highlands. It’s impossible, talking to Iona and Finn, not to pick up some of their enthusiasm for surfing, and for surfing in Scotland. They have both travelled and surfed widely as part of the Scottish junior surf team, and worked together as surf instructors in the Western Isles and New Zealand, but when it came to setting up their own school, it was obvious where it should be.You can catch up with them on Facebook, and Instagram, and on their website.

Ryan finds out more about AMTE Power, their history which stretches back over 20 years to the start of the Lithium battery industry and their exciting plans for the future. AMTE has a flexible battery cell production facility based in Thurso in the North of Scotland where they have been developing new battery cell technology and manufacturing processes for many years. The Thurso facility is one of a very small number of such facilities in the world.Kevin and Ryan discuss lithium battery technology, and the place that AMTE fit in the market supporting the research and development of new battery cell technologies and manufacturing processes.AMTE are helping to drive forward the performance of Lithium Ion battery cells for specialist high performance applications. As well as Lithium Ion batteries the company is also heavily involved in the development of new Sodium Ion battery technology.AMTE has been in the press recently as they are involved in not only one but two battery Giga Factory developments, the first to scale up their manufacturing for specialist cells and the second supporting Britishvolt with their plans for a high-volume production facility for more conventional cells. This was a fascinating discussion covering many aspects of battery cell technology and manufacturing from an expert in the field.Kevin Brundish LinkedIn profile - https://www.linkedin.com/in/kevin-brundish-59158221/AMTE Power Corporate website - https://amtepower.com/Britishvolt Corporate Website - https://britishvolt.com/Ryan Maughan LinkedIn profile - https://www.linkedin.com/in/ryan-maughan-a2893610/AVID Technology website - https://avidtp.com/ Follow AVID on social media: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/Avidtechnology1/LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/2104817/Twitter - https://twitter.com/avidtechnology1

In this episode I talk with Carol and Donald (Peedie) MacNeill of Drumclach, on the Western Side of Colonsay. As you’ll hear, Carol is originally from Edinburgh and came to Colonsay as a young woman to work at the hotel for a summer job. It was there that she met Donald, who was born and raised on the island at Garvard, opposite Oransay. Our conversation covers a wide range of topics. Both Carol and Donald trained as teachers, and their life and work has taken them from Colonsay, to Thurso, back to Colonsay, Wick, and then back to Colonsay again. We name check characters from the past, talk about the challenging nature of being the teacher in a small rural school, and we talk about Peedie’s musical career. We also identify the harsh realities of life at Oban High, which include a particularly brutal form of punishment that many people from that generation will recall with a shocking degree of clarity. You’ll hear quite a lot of background noise in this episode, for which I apologise. I’ve tried to tidy it up as best I can, but I didn’t want to push it too far, otherwise we sound like we’re inside a fish bowl. Donald has very kindly provided the music for this episode. Throughout the main body of the interview you’ll hear instrumental sections from his song “My Mother Rode Her Motorbike” and then at the end of the episode you’ll hear the song “The Hall in ‘59” in its entirety. You can purchase Donald’s music by following the link to his bandcamp site, https://donaldmacneill.bandcamp.com/music. His music is available through iTunes, Amazon and Spotify, too. In 2005 Collins was due to take to the road with Tune Up when he had two life-threatening strokes. After an incredible recovery, during which he heroically battled the physical after-effects hindering his movement and speech he returned to the studio and finished the album he was working on, 'Home Again'. Within two years, he took to the stage again, having painstakingly relearned the lyrics to his songs. And in the last year alone, he has recorded six new songs due out in 2010, alongside winning the prestigious Ivor Novello Inspiration award. We are thrilled to welcome him back to his long post-poned Tune Up tour. Collins will tour alongside Glasgow party stalwarts 1990's, who have recorded both their albums with producer Bernard Butler in Collins' studio. Despite both sets of musicians long-standing mutual appreciation of each other this is the first time they have played together. Travelling to some far flung and beautiful reaches of the country, such as Orkney and Thurso, this tour will also call in at Helmsdale; a homecoming of sorts for Collins, who spent many weeks in this magical place during his recovery. The Low Miffs, featuring Malcolm Ross, formerly of Josef K, Aztec Camera and Orange Juice, will also appear in Glasgow.
