The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV is a cutting-edge electric pickup built on GM's Ultium platform, offering up to 492 miles of range. The Work Truck (WT) model delivers 510 horsepower, while the RST trim reaches 645 horsepower with Wide Open Watts mode. Production begins in late 2025. ----------------------------------------From Jeff's Car Culture files, we look at the 1960s "land yachts" that were massive, luxurious American cars known for their extravagant size, smooth rides, and powerful V8 engines. Models like the Cadillac Fleetwood, Lincoln Continental, and Buick Electra 225 stretched over 18 feet long, offering plush interiors with chrome accents, bench seats, and advanced features for the time. Their long hoods, wide grilles, and tailfins defined the era's bold styling. These cars prioritized comfort, floating down highways with soft suspensions. Gas-guzzling yet glamorous, they symbolized American prosperity and automotive excess. Though impractical today, they remain icons of 1960s luxury and engineering ambition. ----------------------------------------- The 2025 GMC Sierra Denali EV Max Range is a premium electric pickup truck offering an impressive GM-estimated 460 miles of range. Powered by dual electric motors, the Sierra EV delivers 760 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque, enabling a 0-60 mph acceleration in 4.3 seconds. It supports 800-volt DC fast charging up to 350 kW, allowing for rapid energy replenishment. The truck boasts a luxurious interior with premium materials, advanced features like Super Cruise driver assistance, and a towing capacity of up to 10,500 pounds. Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!ProAm Auto AccessoriesProAm Auto Accessories: "THE" place to go to find exclusive and hard to find parts and accessories!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links.

In this special direct from North American Car of the Year testing in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Host Jack Nerad and frequent Guest Host Matt DeLorenzo discuss the many candidates for three of the most prestigious honors in autodom. Nerad is currently vice president of the North American Car of the Year jury. DeLorenzo has served on the jury for decades. Each year, the 50-member jury composed of renowned industry experts evaluates all the new-to-the-market vehicles to determine which deserve the title North American Car of the Year, North American Truck of the Year, and North American Utility of the Year. As part of a rigorous test schedule, the jury convenes in Michigan near the Motor City of Detroit to drive and evaluate the contenders for the honors in each of the categories. The competition is stiff, and the potential for disagreements is many. With electrics, hybrids, and conventionally powered vehicles in each category, the jurors get a chance to weigh the positives and negatives in real-world driving. The car of the year field includes mainstream cars like the Honda Accord and exotic newcomers like the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray. The truck field includes stalwarts like the Ford SuperDuty and new-tech wonders like the Chevrolet Silverado EV. The utility group includes conventional SUVs like the Honda Pilot and Toyota Grand Highlander, plus dedicated electric vehicles like the Kia EV9 and Volvo EX30. The following is a complete list of the 2024 North American Car of the Year, Truck of the Year, and Utility of the Year semi-finalists that Jack Nerad and Matt DeLorenzo will discuss in this week's hour-long special on the competition. Welcome to the best month on the calendar as we give a spirited UAW strike update, peruse the list of new vehicles over the next 18 months, and review the very first show at the site of the NADA Show opening party at the Las Vegas Sphere.Weekend tensions were rising between the UAW and the Detroit 3 as 7000 additional workers went on strike. Ford CEO Jim Farley alleges the union is holding automakers "hostage" with unreasonable demands, stating, "A bad deal would threaten midsize or expensive larger vehicles." and that if the goal was a historic contract, that was already on the table. UAW President Shawn Fain countered by accusing Farley of "lying about the state of negotiations." Fain emphasized, "Bargaining's always a two-way street," and criticized the companies for frequently shifting their stance. The dispute has now engaged approximately 25,000 workers. Nyle Maxwell, owner of four Stellantis stores and chairman of the Stellantis National Dealer Council, voiced concerns about the ongoing strike's impact on inventory and the supply chain. He's been stockpiling fast moving parts and highlighted the potential crunch on Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator inventory. Maxwell emphasized, "any additional strike targets are just going to cripple the entire supply chain." He urges "more strategic thinking and less bluster."Flashback to 2017: Automotive News released its first annual Future Product Pipeline listing all plug-in vehicles headed to market. The Chevrolet Bolt was a fresh face and Elon Musk was touted as a champion of a progressive audience as he announced his ambitious promise of a $35,000 Tesla Model 3 made headlines. Today the Model 3 is the number one selling EV on the market even though it never met that price point, and the Gen 1 Bolt is about to be history. GM venture starts building battery cells at new Ohio factory

General Motors said that a new electric vehicle battery plant built in Ohio has started producing cells, which could help customers get federal tax credits. The joint-venture plant near Warren, Ohio, is focused on training as it prepares to ramp up manufacturing. A spokeswoman for the venture said it is producing cells but they are not yet being shipped. They'll go into vehicles with GM's Ultium batteries, which currently include Hummer EVs, Chevrolet Silverado EV pickups and the Cadillac Lyriq electric SUV. Eventually, though, the plant should help GM's EVs meet requirements to qualify for a $7,500-per-vehicle federal tax credit. Under the Inflation Reduction Act recently signed into law, electric vehicles and their batteries must be manufactured in North America to get the credit. Battery minerals must be mined or recycled on the continent as well, or half the tax credit would be lost. And the batteries can't have any components from China, another difficult hurdle. The requirements are designed to build a North American supply chain for EVs so the country isn't reliant on China and other overseas countries. GM says it's working to meet the requirements. The Ohio plant built with battery maker LG Energy Solution is a step toward getting the credits, which are key to boosting electric vehicle sales. No automaker wants to put EVs on the market that cost $7,500 more than the competition. The $2.3 billion, 2.8-million-square-foot battery plant now employs 800 people, and eventually, it will have 1,300. The factory is near Lordstown, Ohio, where GM closed a huge small-car assembly plant. GM has a goal of making only electric passenger vehicles by 2035, and CEO Mary Barra has pledged to unseat Tesla as the top seller of EVs by the middle of this decade. Let's face it, Ram's electric pickup truck is at least two years behind Rivian and Hummer, and over a year behind Ford and Chevrolet.  The truck maker is betting that it can learn enough from those who have entered the market ahead of it in order to develop a really amazing pickup truck.  Problem is, the auto industry has long lead times when developing new products - might they have to freeze the design too early in order to put this new information to use?  Or might that require further delay?

Show #1442 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily, you trusted source of EV information. It's Thursday 21st April, it's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. VW'S NEW GROWTH PLAN WILL REDUCE SUPPLY CHAIN VULNERABILITY - Volkswagen Group CEO Herbert Diess said the automaker's new growth plan would aim to reduce its vulnerability to the effects of global conflicts, such as supply chain disruption and rising prices, by divesting more power to its regions and brands. - Diess did not specify which political events he was referring to, but automakers have been hit hard by Russia's invasion of Ukraine as Western sanctions pushed up the price of energy and raw materials. - Diess said the automaker's board saw boosting its China business, growing software division Cariad and reorganizing its brand leadership structure as the most pressing issues facing the automaker. - "Our competitors are no longer called Mercedes-Benz, Toyota Motor Corporation or Stellantis, but Tesla, Foxconn, Apple, LG Electronics, Uber etc.," he said. Original Source : https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/vws-new-growth-plan-will-reduce-supply-chain-vulnerability THE RAM 1500 EV HAS 1 MAJOR ADVANTAGE OVER OTHER ELECTRIC TRUCKS - Last week, Ram CEO Mike Koval confirmed the Ram 1500 EV concept at the New York International Auto Show. Ahead of the 2024 release, the company plans to reveal or preview the electric truck sometime this year. Those who are a part of the Ram Real Talk Tour might get a preview of the EV even before that. - Koval said to Automotive News that Ram has a master plan to give customers the right design for the future lineup. - Electric trucks like the Ford F-150 Lightning and GMC Hummer EV Pickup will have been on the market for two years (if all goes as planned). The Chevrolet Silverado EV is slated for production in 2023, likely still beating the Ram by a whole year. - It can adjust based on customer feedback by releasing the Ram 1500 EV after the other trucks have been on the market for a bit. Ram will get to learn what people like and don't like and be able to modify certain things as necessary. Original Source : https://www.motorbiscuit.com/ram-1500-ev-1-major-advantage-over-other-electric-trucks/ TESLA (TSLA) EARNINGS Q1 2022 - Tesla just reported first-quarter earnings for 2022 and beat analysts' expectations on the top and bottom lines. - Automotive revenue reached $16.86 billion, up 87% from the same period last year. Automotive gross margins jumped to a record 32.9% with Tesla reporting gross profit of $5.54 billion in its main segment. Regulatory credits accounted for $679 million of automotive revenue for the quarter. - Revenue growth was driven in part by an increase in the number of cars Tesla delivered, and an increase in average sales prices, the company said in its shareholder deck. - “Our own factories have been running below capacity for several quarters,” Tesla said in its shareholder deck. The company did not give detailed guidance on deliveries going forward, but said it expects 50% annual growth on a multi-year basis, and warned that supply chain constraints are likely to continue through 2022. Musk also said that he believes inflation is worse than reported, and will continue through the year. Original Source : https://www.cnbc.com/2022/04/20/tesla-tsla-earnings-q1-2022.html HALF OF TESLAS PRODUCED IN Q1 HAD AN LFP BATTERY - At its Q1 2022 earnings call, Tesla announced that nearly half of all EVs it produced during the quarter were fitted with LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery cells that are free of nickel and cobalt. - While LFP batteries still use lithium, they come with a number of benefits over the standard NCA and NCM batteries that have traditionally been used in electric vehicles. - Tesla announced that almost half the cars that rolled out of its factories during the first three months of 2022 were equipped with LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries. In its official statement released on Wednesday, the company said that its decision to use the new technology is largely based on the fact that "diversification of battery chemistries is critical for long-term capacity growth." - The batteries are expected to help Tesla save on input costs and improve the bottom line as they are significantly cheaper than the Nickel Cobalt Aluminum Oxide (NCA) cells Original Source : https://screenrant.com/tesla-increases-ev-production-lfp-battery/ TESLA SHOWS THAT ORDERS FOR ITS CARS SPIKED AFTER THE SUPER BOWL - his year's Super Bowl was packed with electric car ads from various automakers. Now that EVs are beginning to come into the mainstream, people are taking notice. Seeing major automakers supporting and promoting electric cars, not to mention their outstanding performance, gets people talking and searching the internet. - Apparently, it also moves people to order a Tesla. Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/581249/tesla-orders-spiked-after-super-bowl-ads/ Tesla's solar business slumps as supply shortages take a toll - The company's solar energy deployments – including the solar roof made at Tesla's Buffalo plant – plunged by nearly half during the first quarter because of problems getting supplies from outside the United States. - Tesla said it installed 48 megawatts of solar energy generating capacity during the first three months of this year, 48% less than the 92 megawatts of solar capacity it installed during the same period last year. - Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he expects the supply shortages that affected the company's battery and solar energy businesses to be resolved. - Analysts believe Tesla has installed a relatively small number of solar roofs, so even a high percentage increase likely involves a modest number of additional deployments. It's Tuesday 8th March, it's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. FORD DEALERS WILL FINALLY BE FORCED TO LEARN ABOUT ELECTRIC VEHICLES - In the wake of the decision to split its EV and gasoline vehicle divisions, Ford has announced that its dealers will need to "opt-in" to selling EVs along with normal combustion cars, according to Automotive News. - While the company has no apparent plans to create new dealers or work outside its network of roughly 3,100 existing retail stores, Ford CEO Jim Farley said in an interview that dealers should "get ready to specialize." - Dealers that currently sell the Mustang Mach-E, E-Transit, and are anticipating inventory of the new F-150 Lightning can continue selling them for the next year and a half. - The new dealer agreement isn't finalized yet, but Ford executives have made clear they hope for a no-inventory, direct-order model, as well as non-negotiable pricing and smaller facilities for dealers. - Tesla, one of Ford's main EV competitors, works off of a direct sale model, which Farley estimates helps Tesla save almost $2,000 per vehicle. But he added that "not everything can be done remote" and that Ford still understands the importance of brick-and-mortar dealerships in customer satisfaction. Original Source : https://www.thedrive.com/news/44619/ford-dealers-will-finally-be-forced-to-learn-about-electric-vehicles NUMEROUS FORD MUSTANG MACH-E TRIMS NO LONGER ABLE TO BE ORDERED - Ford has reportedly stopped taking orders for two Mustang Mach-E trims due to excessive demand. According to Ford Authority, who site sources "familiar with the matter", the Blue Oval will not take any new orders for Premium and California Route 1 trim levels for the remained of the 2022 model year. - Mach-E buyers will only be able to get the Extended Range battery by buying the $61,995 GT. The Select trim only comes with the Standard Range pack, although you can get it in either RWD or AWD guise. - The ongoing semiconductor shortage likely played a key role in Ford's decision. The marque has already experienced production issues this year. Last month Mach-E production was temporarily halted due to supply chain issues. Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/571729/mach-e-trims-not-available GM ANNOUNCES $400 MILLION EV BATTERY MATERIALS PLANT IN CANADA - General Motors and South Korea's POSCO Chemical announced plans to build a new EV battery materials plant in Quebec, Canada. - The two parties said they are working with the governments of Canada and Quebec to build a new facility that will produce cathode active material (CAM), with the investment estimated at $400 million (C$500 million). - The cathode active material produced at the new plant will go into GM's Ultium batteries, which will power electric vehicles such as the Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Hummer EV and Cadillac Lyriq. CAM is a key battery material consisting of components like processed nickel, lithium and other materials making up about 40% of the cost of a battery cell. - By the end of 2025, GM plans to have capacity to build 1 million electric vehicles in North America. The company targets the majority of components by value to be sustainably sourced, processed or manufactured in North America. Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/571967/gm-announces-400million-battery-materials-plant-canada/ NICKEL PRICE SURGE COULD THREATEN AUTOMAKERS' EV PLANS - The price of nickel is surging as investors take stock of the new global reality: Russia, a key supplier of the metal, is now facing extensive sanctions following its invasion of Ukraine. - In an unusual step, the London Metal Exchange suspended nickel trading on Tuesday morning after three-month contract prices more than doubled to over $100,000 per ton. - Nickel is a critical ingredient in the lithium-ion battery cells used in most electric vehicles sold in — and planned for — the U.S. market. Its abrupt price surge has analysts and investors raising hard questions about automakers' ambitious electric-vehicle programs. - When the battery cell is charged, lithium ions are driven from the cathode to the anode. As the cell is discharged, the ions move back to the cathode, releasing energy. In recent years, automakers have discovered that adding more nickel to the cathode can boost a battery's energy density, which translates into more range per pound of batteries. - Some use even more, in part to reduce or eliminate cobalt, and in part to increase density for premium applications: The cathodes in cells that Korean battery giant LG Chem supplies to Tesla are 90% nickel, for instance. - Given the relatively high cost of nickel, and the concerns about supply that were being voiced before Russia invaded Ukraine, automakers have signaled that lithium-ion batteries with high-nickel cathodes are likely to be limited to premium applications. Original Source : https://www.cnbc.com/2022/03/08/nickel-price-surge-could-threaten-automakers-ev-plans.htm EPA PROPOSES CUTS TO SMOG, SOOT POLLUTION FROM HEAVY TRUCKS - The Biden administration is proposing stronger pollution regulations for new tractor-trailer rigs that would clean up smoky diesel engines and encourage new technologies during the next two decades. - The proposal released Monday by the Environmental Protection Agency would require the industry to cut smog-and-soot-forming nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 90% per truck over current standards by 2031. The emissions can cause respiratory problems in humans. - Although truck manufacturers are working on battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell powertrains, the EPA says the proposal is not a zero-emissions truck requirement. Rather, the agency says there are pollution control devices in development that can keep diesels in use and still clean the air. - Environmental groups praised the EPA's action, but many urged the administration to move quickly on the proposal and then go farther toward requiring zero-emissions trucks. - The new standards would bring widespread air quality improvements, particularly in areas already exposed to heavy truck traffic, officials say. It reduces the upfront cost of buying a two-wheeler, eliminates the range anxiety and the apprehensions about the useful life of the batteries. THERE WASN'T A SINGLE TESLA AD DURING THE SUPER BOWL. HERE'S WHY - CNN - If you were to judge the US auto market by this year's Super Bowl ads, you'd think virtually all the cars for sale in America today are electric vehicles made by the world's long-established automakers. And you never would have heard of Tesla, the world's largest EV maker. - Commercials during the game reportedly cost $7 million for 30 seconds, and automakers bought a total of nearly 10 minutes of those time slots, not counting pre- and postgame ads. Those commercial minutes were almost all about EVs. - But now, Tesla is facing more competition than ever for buyers looking to go electric. Established automakers and other upstarts have dozens of new EV models in their pipelines, some of which are already for sale. So some experts think Tesla may have to change its no-ads policy eventually. - The car industry has incredibly deep pockets for ad spending and spends more on advertisements than any other product group. - Automakers invested $4 billion in television ads in the first nine months of 2021, according to Kantar. - Auto dealers spent another $625 million in that same period of 2021. - Many of the cars advertised during the Super Bowl are not yet available to US buyers — and won't be for months or even years. Original Source : https://edition.cnn.com/2022/02/14/business/super-bowl-ev-ads/index.html EV-MAKER POLESTAR'S AD RIBBING MUSK MOST POPULAR AT SUPER BOWL | REUTERS - Leonardo DiCaprio-backed Polestar's ad taking a potshot at rivals Tesla (TSLA.O) and Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE) topped the list of the most popular commercials during Super Bowl LVI, new data on Monday showed. - The 30-second ad by the electric-car maker performed roughly 23 times better than other commercials aired during the game, according to consumer search data firm EDO, with its message of "no epic voiceovers," "no empty promises," and "no hidden agendas" aiming squarely at the idea of conquering Mars as well as the Volkswagen Dieselgate. - Five of the top 20 Super Bowl commercials that were the most searched online during and after the event were EV-focused and were made by Polestar, Kia, Nissan, Chevrolet and BMW, EDO said, highlighting the rising popularity of battery-powered vehicles in the U.S. market. Original Source : https://www.reuters.com/world/us/ev-maker-polestars-ad-ribbing-musk-most-popular-super-bowl-2022-02-14/ US TO INVEST ALMOST $3 BILLION IN BATTERY SUPPLY CHAIN - ELECTRIVE.COM - The US Department of Energy has announced funding of 2.91 billion dollars to develop a national battery supply chain – including for electric vehicles. This makes another e-mobility funding from the infrastructure bill concrete. - to support production facilities for battery materials, battery cells and packs, recycling facilities, and second-life applications for batteries - the government of US President Joe Biden wants to ensure “that the United States can produce batteries and the materials they contain to increase economic competitiveness, energy independence and national security”. These silicon anode cells hold 73 percent more energy than Tesla's Model 3 cells by weight, and they take up 37 percent less volume. - Tesla's current Model 3 cells serve as a state-of-the-art comparison, and hold around 260 Wh/kg and 730 Wh/l, according to Enpower. The new Amprius cells are a significant step up, both in specific energy and energy density, holding 450 Wh/kg and 1,150 Wh/l – and the company says that the undisclosed number of cells just delivered to "an industry leader of a new generation of High-Altitude Pseudo Satellites" - The company says the silicon nanowires are rooted right into the substrate of the anode, so conductivity (and thus power) is high. It says the cell cycle life is "excellent" and "continually improving," although it doesn't put any numbers on it, and it also says the anode is the only part of the battery that changes; the rest can be produced using existing manufacturing methods and components. The German maker has now released images of a prototype model undergoing extreme cold-weather testing. - close to the Arctic Circle where temperatures can reach as low as minus 30 degrees celsius. The purpose of this gruelling phase of development is to evaluate how the van's various components, such as its powertrain and charging system, cope with the icy conditions. - Mercedes did reveal that – depending on configuration – this next-generation model will boast more than double the range of the current van (below), which can cover up to 96 miles on a charge. - Production of the next-generation eSprinter is set to begin in the second half of 2023 in South Carolina, USA, followed later by two plants in Germany. First the three discuss the new 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L, where the L stands for "Third Row," a phrase which doesn't contain a single L within it. Or maybe it stands for "Premium Interior," another statement without the 12th letter of the alphabet. It could also stand for "Baby Wagoneer" or "Bigger Cherokee," but you'll have to listen to the whole episode to get the real scoop on this longer wheelbase, family-friendly Jeep. Then our guest Stephen Elmer brings up the recently revealed 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV, its Avalanche-inspired design, Hummer-derived powertrain, house-capable tow rating, and girthy price spread. Is the world ready for these electric truck wars? Are the roads ready? Are the charging stations ready? (Probably no to all those questions) Finally, the guys get Sami to talk about the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross, a subcompact crossover that will make you forget about the Japanese automaker's previous effort in that segment (the lamented C-HR).

Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Thursday 6th January. It's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they've built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. Welcome to a new Patreon Producer NETZ HOG. 2024 CHEVROLET SILVERADO EV MAKES WORLD DEBUT AT CES - Chevrolet has finally lifted the veils off its first all-electric pickup truck, the 2024 Silverado EV based on GM's Ultium EV platform. - Going head to head with the Ford F-150 Lightning, the Silverado EV has the major advantage of being built from the ground up as an electric vehicle—the Lightning uses a modified version of the ICE F-150 platform. - In the fall of 2023, Chevrolet will introduce the fully loaded Silverado EV RST First Edition model with a 400-mile range and an MSRP of $105,000 (plus destination and freight charges). - This model (as well as non-First Edition RST variants) will pack 664 horsepower and more than 780 lb-ft (1,056 Nm) of torque from an e4WD system with the available max power Wide Open Watts Mode, enabling 0-60 acceleration in under 4.5 seconds. - Customers splurging more than a hundred grand on the RST First Edition will also get goodies like four-wheel steering, Automatic Adaptive Air Suspension (raises or lowers up to 2 inches/50 mm), Multi-Flex Midgate that expands cargo capability while maintaining seating for a rear row passenger, and available Multi-Flex Tailgate with power release. Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/558852/2024-chevrolet-silverado-ev-unveiled/ - Like Lightning, Silverado EV pricing starts at just under $40,000 before government tax breaks. Unlike Lightning, which uses a familiar F-150 ladder frame, the Silverado EV makes a clean break from its petrol-powered Silverado stablemate with an all-new platform based on GM's 800-volt Ultium battery skateboard and capable of fast, 350-kW charging. It's the same architecture that cradles the Hummer EV — GMC's first foray into the e-pickup space. - The retail strategy will initially target premium EV buyers who also have the coin for, say, a $105k Mercedes EQS EV. Pickups like the Silverado High Country have become prized by luxury items in recent years, though the RST EV will cost $40,000 more than a fully-loaded V8-powered High Country. - he high-voltage platform rivals the Porsche and Lucid Air luxury cars and can add 100 miles of range in 10 minutes at a fast charger. The Chevy's 400-mile range bests Lightning by 100 miles. - A flying buttress C-pillar — reminiscent of the 2013 Chevy Avalanche pickup — frames the 5' 11” bed that can be extended to 9 feet (10' 10” with the tailgate down) by dropping the Multi-Flex Midgate wall and window behind the rear, crew-cab passengers. It's not as radical looking as the angular Tesla Cybertruck, but it's distinct from traditional, boxy Silverados. The gate can be split 60/40 — or drop flat with storage for the removable window. The rear Multi-Flex Tailgate offers multi-functionality like walk-in steps or a work table. - The Silverado EV will be assembled alongside the Hummer EV at the Factory Zero Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Center, the plant retooled with an EV-focused, $2.2 billion investment. Original Source : https://eu.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/general-motors/2022/01/05/chevy-silverado-ev-brings-400-mile-range-bed-extender/9091520002/ HOW DOES THE 2024 CHEVROLET SILVERADO EV COMPARE TO OTHER ELECTRIC PICKUPS? - Chevy then plans to fill in the middle of the Silverado EV lineup with additional variants including the RST and Trail Boss, with prices ranging from $50,000 to $80,000 “or more” depending on equipment. - As for other electric pickups, the Ford F-150 Lightning will be available as a standard-range work truck for roughly $40,000, with extended-range versions starting at around $50,000 (all before options). The Rivian R1T will be priced from the high $60,000 to low $70,000 range to start, but the price can quickly escalate with options. The GMC Hummer EV pickup available at launch will be priced at more than $112,000, with cheaper versions coming in later years. When the Cybertruck was revealed, Tesla said it would cost between $40,000 and $70,000 depending on configuration, but like all Tesla prices, those are subject to change. GM later released a single photo showing it off in more detail. - We expect the Silverado EV Trail Boss to cost around $65,000 and it should be available along with other versions when the model is set to go into production next spring. · Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/559105/chevrolet-silverado-ev-trailboss-teased/ A $30,000 CHEVROLET EQUINOX EV SUV IS COMING - Forget the six-figure Silverado EV: the most exciting upcoming electric Chevrolet could be a far more attainable pair of SUVs. The automaker accompanied its electric pickup news at CES 2022 today with the confirmation that an Chevrolet Equinox EV SUV is coming, along with a larger Chevrolet Blazer EV SUV. - Both the Equinox EV SUV and the Blazer EV SUV will be arriving in the US in 2024, the former in the fall and the latter in the spring. - The Equinox EV SUV will be priced from around $30,000, Chevrolet says, plus destination and other fees, and before incentives. It'll be offered in both fleet and retail versions, too, including in LT and RS trims as Chevy showed off in its images today. As with the Silverado EV, Cadillac Lyriq, and GMC HUMMER EV, the Equinox EV will be based on GM's Ultium platform dedicated to electric vehicles. - What makes the news so important is just how strong a seller the existing Equinox is in Chevrolet's line-up, and among compact SUVs in general. It's the automaker's “second-highest selling brand nameplate” according to Steve Hill, Vice President at Chevrolet. CHEVROLET SILVERADO EV RESERVATION WILL BEGIN ONE HOUR AFTER DEBUT - The Chevrolet Silverado EV,  powered by GM's new Ultium battery technology, and was planned to make its debut at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) on January 5th, 2022, at 12 PM Eastern Time. However, GM has switched the debut to take place entirely online, with zero changes to the date and time. Meanwhile, reservations for the all-electric Silverado will open just one hour later at 1 PM Eastern Time. - The reasoning behind GMs switching from unveiling the Chevrolet Silverado EV at CES to making it an entirely online presentation is due to the COVID-19 Omicron variant, which has contributed to record case numbers worldwide. The new Chevrolet Silverado EV is expected to be “game-changing” and will be related to the off-road focused GMC Hummer EV. - Since the GMC Hummer EV isn't a competitor with Ford's battery-electric F-150 Lightning, the Silverado EV will have the honor of challenging Ford's current success within the market. Original Source : https://www.musclecarsandtrucks.com/chevrolet-silverado-ev-reservations-opening-time/ OLA CLAIMS ALL ELECTRIC SCOOTER ORDERS DISPATCHED, CUSTOMERS RESPOND 'NOPE' - Ola's CEO Bhavish Aggarwal took to Twitter this morning to announce that the company has now dispatched all of the electric scooters that have been reserved. But many customers disagreed, quickly calling out the CEO. - Aggarwal explained that the scooters were in the process of being delivered, which includes going through the registration process. - That process is apparently taking longer than the company originally anticipated, with Aggarwal continuing, “Some in transit, most already at delivery centres near you getting through RTO registration process. The registration process took longer than we anticipated as a fully digital process is new for all.” - As an electric scooter startup, Ola Electric has faced an uphill battle to reach its own ambitious goal of producing 2 million electric scooters per year. Original Source : https://electrek.co/2021/12/31/ola-ceo-claims-it-has-dispatched-all-pre-ordered-electric-scooters-customers-disagree/ MAZDA SAYS THE MX-30 IS AN IDEAL SECOND CAR - Mazda's first fully-electric vehicle, the MX-30 crossover, has a range of 100 miles. For now Mazda's only importing 560 for sale in California, a state that happens to be quite large. However, California also mandates that manufacturers sell cars without internal-combustion engines as part of their fleets, leading to the suspicion that the MX-30 is merely a compliance car and the company never expected to sell many examples. - Speaking to Automotive News Canada, Mazda national manager Mark Peyman described the kind of customer the company is envisioning would make for the ideal MX-30. That is, someone who already owns another car. - “We come to market with a vehicle like the MX-30 that has a smaller battery, a smaller footprint environmentally and still meets the range needs of 80 per cent-plus of the consumers that will probably use this,” Peyman said. “We've found through research that many of these individuals have additional cars in their households that are for longer range.” - Peyman strikes a better answer deeper into Auto News' story, saying that those customers that like the MX-30 but are particularly worried about range should wait for the “Powered by ROTARY” plug-in hybrid version: - “Step one is to focus on these urban environments and people that do want a more environmentally conscious choice with the full battery electric,” Peyman said. “Step two, this [plug-in hybrid model] could conceivably be somebody's only vehicle, so it's just a step further out.” Original Source : https://jalopnik.com/mazda-admits-you-need-two-cars-to-justify-mx-30-ownersh-1848283112 CHARGING TESLA MODEL S VIA CCS AT ELECTRIFY AMERICA IS FAST, CHEAP - Tesla cars in North America are equipped with the company's proprietary charging port - not compatible with the CCS Combo 1 plugs (the adapter is coming). Imagine our surprise the when we saw a report about an owner who is successfully using Electrify America chargers with CCS1 plugs. - In a Reddit topic titled "I drove a Plaid 2000 miles using mostly Electrify America stations...," Ryan Huber describes details of how his Tesla Model S Plaid was charging using CCS1 chargers. - According to the highlights, the charging power exceeds 200 kW (between 8% and about 45% SOC) and might be considered as "Supercharging 2.5" (the V2 Superchargers allow 150 kW, while V3 as much as 250 kW). The peak was 217 kW (499 A at 435 V). - "The charge curve is great. I'd call this "Supercharger 2.5" if you want to get a feel for the speed. At 500 amps, you can get a lot of juice into the car, relatively quickly. The car charges at more than 200kW from 8% to about 45%. It peaks at 39% SoC which is approx 499A at 435V, which is about 217kW. At that point the car begins ramping down the amperage at the same rate as a V3 supercharger." - "I'm rather convinced the bad experiences people have with EA have more to do with car manufacturer CCS implementations than the stations themselves. I had exactly one failure and it was a bad pedestal that I didn't notice was marked as unavailable in the app." Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/557776/tesla-2000miles-using-ea-chargers/ TESLA RECALLS ALMOST HALF A MILLION ELECTRIC CARS OVER SAFETY ISSUES - Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) is recalling more than 475,000 of its Model 3 and Model S electric cars to address rearview camera and trunk issues that increase the risk of crashing, the U.S. road safety regulator said on Thursday. - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has been discussing another camera issue with the automaker, while probing the company's driver assistant system. - Around 200,000 Tesla vehicles will be recalled in China, the country's market regulator said on Friday. - The U.S. electric vehicle manufacturer is recalling 356,309 2017-2020 Model 3 vehicles to address rearview camera issues and 119,009 Model S vehicles due to front hood problems, the federal regulator said.  Original Source : https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/tesla-recalls-over-475000-electric-vehicles-2021-12-30/ - The recall applies to 2014-2021 Model S vehicles, according to an email sent to Teslarati by a reader this morning. “On these vehicles, the latch assembly may be positioned too far back, preventing the secondary latch from properly engaging the trunk striker. If the trunk is inadvertently released while driving and the secondary latch is not engaged, the frunk may be open without warning and obstruct the driver's visibility. If the frunk is inadvertently released, the driver will receive an alert on the user interface. We are not aware of any crashes or injuries related to this condition.” Original Source : https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-model-s-frunk-latch-recall/ TESLA MODEL 3 RECALL OVER REAR CAMERA CONNECTION - The coaxial cable is attached to a harness on the trunk lid and can become worn after repeated opening and closing of the trunk. If the core of coaxial cable separates due to excessive wear, the rearview camera feed will not be visible on the center display, affecting the driver's view and increasing the risk of collision, the NHTSA said. - Tesla will inspect the trunk harnesses in affected vehicles and equip the harness with a guide to protect it from further wear if necessary. Owners who paid to replace or fix the trunk harness for the same issue prior to the recall may be eligible for reimbursement from Tesla. Typically, a body has to have a floor and structural bracing, and then, in the case of an EV, the battery is mounted to that. Elon Musk has long stated that he wants to move Tesla to a system with integrated structural batteries, and it looks like this could be the first step towards that. With no visible floor, it suggests that a structural battery would form the entire floor of the Model Y, removing the need for extra structural bracing, reducing weight, and simplifying the production process. CES, the world's largest technology show, is pressing on, but with fewer major exhibitors appearing in-person than expected due to rising COVID-19 cases in the United States. On December 22nd, exhibitor Lenovo announced that it would “suspend all on-site activity in Las Vegas,” following announcements from T-Mobile, Amazon, Meta, and others that they'd be ditching as well and despite CES organizers' statements that the show would go on. T-Mobile was the most prominent exhibitor to bail early that week. CEO Mike Sievert, one of the Consumer Electronics Show's featured speakers, publicly announced on Tuesday that he would no longer be doing a keynote and would “significantly limit our in-person participation.” Amazon decided not to attend the show in-person entirely, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, and AT&T also dropped out on Wednesday, according to Axios' Ina Fried. Hisense typically has a large press conference and significant presence in the LVCC's central hall, but on Thursday morning, Hisense announced it decided to make its January 4th press conference fully virtual “to ensure the health and safety of our team.” The company still plans to have a booth at the show, with in-person walkthroughs for those attending and virtual ones for those covering it from home. It was followed closely later in the day by Waymo, as Alphabet's self-driving car company updated its blog post to explain the decision. “Based on quickly rising COVID-19 infection rates, Waymo has made the difficult decision not to participate in person at CES 2022. We are aiming to still virtually participate in some CES-related events. In particular, as part of our Self-Driven Women series, our co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana and our Global Head of Public Policy Michelle Peacock will speak at several virtual panel discussions with the Female Quotient, the official equality partner of CES 2022.” Chipmaking giant Intel said on Thursday afternoon that “[after] consulting with health officials and in the spirit of Intel's safety policy, our plans for CES will move to a digital-first, live experience, with minimal on-site staff.” Gaming accessory maker HyperX also said it's pivoting away from in-person plans and will support conversations and activities virtually. The dominoes continued to fall on Thursday, as General Motors announced its presence will be all-digital. Less than a day ago, GM confirmed to The Verge that it still planned to attend CES, where CEO Mary Barra was scheduled as a keynote speaker, and it planned to debut an electric version of the Chevrolet Silverado, but now that has changed. A statement from the company says, “We have decided to move to an all-digital approach with our activation at CES 2022 in January. This week we have a pair of SUVs that can go off-road almost anywhere with the Ford Bronco Wildtrack Sasquatch and the Land Rover Defender 110 SE. We also have a pair of decidedly on-road machines in the Hyundai Tucson and Nissan Sentra.Nicole and Sam went to the Chicago Auto Show this week and didn't see any new completely new models, just some stuff that's already been shown like the Bronco Raptor, Chevrolet Silverado EV and Toyota Sequoia along with new trim variants like the Ram 1500 Firefighter edition. Before the show, Alfa Romeo revealed the new Tonale and its accompanying NFT but didn't bring it to Chicago. Sam did speak with Alfa North America boss Larry Dominique.
