Hosts Kerrin Jeromin and Taylor Mankle discuss recent stories from NREL:  The rapid adoption of zero-emission electric vehicles, alongside a transition to a clean electric grid and measures to manage travel demand growth, could lead to an 80% or more drop in transportation greenhouse gas emissions in the United States by 2050, according to researchers from the U.S. Department of Energy's NREL. Their study, published in the journal Nature Communications, involved over 2,000 simulations and identified the dynamic variable in reducing emissions as measures supporting the transition to zero-emission vehicles, emphasizing the importance of a multifaceted approach involving technology advancements, policy changes, and behavioral shifts. Researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy's NREL achieved a record-breaking efficiency of 27% for a gallium arsenide (GaAs) heterojunction solar cell, using dynamic hydride vapor phase epitaxy (D-HVPE). By optimizing the doping and bandgap of the emitter layer, the study provides a roadmap for enhancing the performance of solar cells, with potential applications beyond III-V materials, such as silicon, cadmium telluride, or perovskites. NREL researchers are utilizing artificial intelligence, specifically invertible neural network (INN) tools, to accelerate airfoil design for wind turbine blades, demonstrating a hundredfold speedup over current methods and achieving performance characteristics satisfaction, offering a potential breakthrough in optimizing airfoil shapes and streamlining the design process. The INN, by learning an invertible relationship between airfoil shapes and their properties, enables rapid exploration of design spaces, providing higher-fidelity insights into aerodynamics and structural properties without compromising tight design timelines. This episode was hosted by Kerrin Jeromin and Taylor Mankle, written and produced by Allison Montroy and Kaitlyn Stottler, and edited by Joe DelNero and Brittany Falch. With the onset of winter, severe levels of air pollution have reemerged as a concern in North India. Various factors have been put forth to explain this malaise: stubble burning in farms, vehicular pollution, and pollution due to the construction sector. But even outside of the winter months, the National Capital Region maintains poor air quality, with an AQI of over 200. Can clean transportation help?To speak of clean transportation, which is key to addressing the issue of vehicular pollution, we must first speak of electric passenger and commercial vehicles, low-emission zones, and so on. Each option comes with its own set of challenges. Electric vehicle uptake is low in India and hovers at around 2 percent owing to relatively higher prices, range anxiety, lengthy charging times, a lack of standardized charging points, and a lack of charging infrastructure. However, there are concerted efforts to promote electric vehicles and alternative forms of cleaner transportation in India. The auto PLI scheme and Delhi's electric vehicle (EV) policy provide incentives that can potentially spur the uptake of electric vehicles. Delhi's EV policy also addresses the issue of scarce charging infrastructure. This appears to have had results since Delhi's electric vehicle sales rose to 9 percent in the September–November quarter of 2021 from around 1 percent in 2019–2020. Nor is price as much of a deterrent as it may initially appear, since initial high costs may be offset by long-term gains from heavy usage, such as low fuel and running and maintenance costs. In this episode of Interpreting India, Amit Bhatt joins Sayoudh Roy to discuss these key questions around clean transportation.Episode ContributorsAmit Bhatt is the India managing director at the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT). He is based in New Delhi and has over twenty years of experience in transportation, urban development, and management. Before joining ICCT, Amit was executive director for integrated transport at WRI India for twelve years. Prior to this, he worked with the Urban Mass Transit Company, India's leading urban transport consultancy, and with infrastructure leasing and financial services. Sayoudh Roy is a senior research analyst with the Political Economy Program at Carnegie India. His work focuses on the macroeconomic implications of frictions in labor and financial markets and how interactions between them can affect macroeconomic aggregates.Additional ReadingsIndia's Path to Clean Transport is Electric, Strong Central Policies on Zero-Emission Vehicles by Amit Bhatt and Harsimran KaurWhere Are India's Electric Trucks? by Amit Bhatt and Aviral YadavBattery Swapping for Electric Two-Wheelers in India: Strategy Hinterlands, by Pramoda Gode, Sumati Kohli, and Jennifer Callahan How Delhi Is Becoming a Lighthouse City for Electric Mobility in India by Amit BhattImproving Air Quality in Cities Through Transport-Focused Low- and Zero-Emission Zones: Legal Pathways and Opportunities for India by Anuj Dhole, Sandra Wappelhorst, and Amit Bhatt

Advanced Clean Car II RuleThe Advanced Clean Car II proposal requires that all new passenger vehicles, trucks, and SUVs sold in California be zero emissions by 2035. The rule will begin with 2026 through 2035 vehicle models and will also require more aggressive tailpipe emission standards for gasoline vehicles. The proposal has two parts: first, it amends the low-emission vehicle regulation, which enact stricter standards on gasoline cars and trucks to reduce smog emissions. Second, the rule relies on advancing zero-emission technologies for hydrogen fuel cell electric, battery-electric, and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. Today, California has the largest zero-emission vehicle market in the country, and more than 16% of all new vehicles sold in the state are currently zero-emission or hybrid cars. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) estimates that by 2025 there will be 179 models of zero-emission and plug-in-hybrid cars.CARB believes that  this proposal will reduce air pollutants, protect public health and fight climate change. CARB estimated the public health benefits of this regulation will be at least $12 billion by 2035, and will reduce premature death, hospitalizations, and lost work days from exposure to harmful air pollutants. CARB also anticipates that the rule will help meet  environmental justice goals by reducing impacts on  disadvantaged, poor, and marginalized communities which disproportionately bear the burden of exposure to some of the worst air and vehicular pollution in the state. A study by the Union of Concerned Scientists found that in California, African Americans and Latinos breathe in 40% more particulate matter from vehicular air pollution compared to white communities. The transportation sector is also responsible for 50% of California's greenhouse gas emissions and 80% of the state's smog-causing pollutants. By increasing the number of zero-emission vehicles and cleaning up conventional internal combustion vehicles, these regulations could help reduce the exposure and harm faced by these vulnerable communities. The proposal also includes vehicle assurance measures, including setting a minimum warranty, durability requirements, increasing serviceability, and facilitating battery charging. These assurance measures aim to broaden the electric vehicle market. The rule also seeks to broaden access to the zero-emission market by providing reduced-price vehicles for community mobility programs, supporting the production of affordable vehicles, and retaining used electric vehicles in California. In addition, CARB is providing $2.4 billion of incentives for consumers to switch to electric vehicles and other forms of clean transportation. These funds  will cover the costs of more charging infrastructure and increased public outreach. This proposal also faces criticism due to some of the innate challenges with electric vehicles. One concern is the driving range of electric vehicles as the average zero-emission car in California is only capable of traveling 150 miles without a recharge, which will create a demand for hundreds of new charging stations across the state, although range is expanding rapidly. Affordability and equitable access are also a critique as the average zero-emission vehicle costs $30,000 and the used electric vehicle market is limited. The increased demand on California's electric grid is also a challenge as the state is already struggling to meet current electricity demands as it phases out gas-fired generators. Electric vehicles, and particularly the materials in their batteries, also pose many environmental and human rights concerns. Increased demand for electric vehicles has dramatically increased the mining of raw earth elements such as cobalt and lithium. Mining these elements can produce hazardous waste that can leach into the environment and lead to toxic exposure for nearby communities. Many of these minerals are also found in developing countries, where corruption and lack of environmental regulations continue to exacerbate the negative impacts of the mining needed to produce zero-emission vehicles.Despite these challenges, California's new proposal is setting the standard for national adoption of zero-emission vehicles. Seventeen states have adopted part or all of California's low and zero-emission regulations. By setting the most stringent emission standards in the country, California regulations are forcing auto manufacturers to change their production to comply with California law. As auto manufacturers not only produce specific vehicles for California, they are greening the vehicle market across the country. As a result, CARB estimates that more than 35% of the nation's new light-duty vehicles will meet California emission standards. Dr. Steve CliffDr. Steve Cliff is the Executive Officer of the California Air and Resource Board (CARB). Cliff began his appointment in the Summer of 2022 and works with the board to enact programs to reduce air and climate pollution within the state. In his role, Cliff oversees over 1,800 employees and a budget of $2.7 billion. Before serving as Executive Officer Cliff worked as the 16th Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and was appointed by President Biden in January 2021. At NHTSA Cliff oversaw the nation's vehicle safety agency, where he helped advance vehicle technologies and established fuel economy regulations. Dr. Cliff also has an extensive history working with CARB as he first joined as an Air Pollution Specialist in 2008, served as Deputy Executive Officer overseeing the board's climate program, and was appointed by Governor Brown in 2016 as senior advisor to CARB's Chair. Internal combustion engine vehicles are a major source of greenhouse gas emissions in Australia and New Zealand. Encouraging the public to utilise low and zero emission vehicles (LZEVs), such as battery electric vehicles will contribute to creating a more sustainable road transport system. As the number of LZEVs is expected to rise, there will be a growing demand for charging infrastructure. Increasing availability of such infrastructure will also encourage the uptake of LZEVs; however, currently there is little guidance available to road agencies to assist them in managing the installation of charging infrastructure within road reserves. This webinar with David Silvester and Norman Cheung presents new Austroads guidance to help agencies manage the planning, installation, and operation of charging infrastructure for non-commercial passenger vehicles with battery-electric or hybrid propulsion within the road reserve or road related areas. The guidelines draw on the latest international and national experience and case studies and can be used by agencies in the implementation of consistent charging facility practices to reduce costs, improve the road environment, road safety, network operations, and LZEV driver experience. The webinar covers guidance on managing the life cycle of the facilities, including planning, design, operations, interoperability, maintenance, and decommissioning.

Austroads has published a report proposing a set of symbols for low and zero emission vehicles (LZEVs) and associated charging or refuelling infrastructure to be used on road signs and for road marking in Australia and New Zealand. The proposal forms a basis for testing and standardisation of the symbols (according to the Australian Standards) and their adoption in the Australian Road Rules and signage manuals. The background of this work is that with the uptake of low and zero emission vehicles, consistent signage for electric-powered vehicle parking and charging is required. New Zealand has rolled out charging signage nationwide. However, in Australia there are currently no standardised low and zero emission vehicle symbols or signs. This webinar, presented by Dr Robert Kochhan, Paul Hayes and Dr Clarissa Han, provides an overview of the report and the proposed symbols for the following five categories: Electric-powered vehicle Electric-powered vehicle being charged Charging station for electric-powered vehicles Hydrogen fuel-cell powered vehicle and associated refuelling infrastructure Access to lanes and roadways designated for electric-powered vehicles and hydrogen fuel-cell powered vehicles.

If you want to buy a gas guzzler, you've only got until 2030. After that, it's going to have to be some alternative type, with the UK eager to drive new investments into manufacturing.  Electric cars had a strong 2020 and there is a real buzz around them. Much of the focus is on Tesla, and madcap founder Elon Musk, but virtually all car manufacturers are now working on the problem.  Shifting consumers to a new fleet will require certain additional changes. What will the government do when it loses road tax and fuel duties? Particularly when electric vehicles are too expensive for consumers without subsidies?  Maria Bengtsson, EY lead for electric vehicles, and special guest Robert Llewellyn, presenter of Fully Charged, get together to talk through the opportunities and challenges.  Zero emission vehicles are the fourth point on the government's 10 point plan. Next month, and picking up on some of the themes discussed here, will be green public transport. In a move designed to focus on a zero-emissions, software-driven future, Daimler’s Supervisory board and Board of Management agreed to evaluate plans for a separate listing of Daimler Truck. " according to Motor1: !this move makes quite a lot of sense because rather unsurprisingly, each respective company knows best how to serve its customer base. It will list its trucks arm separately, paving the way for one of the largest German flotations this year and allowing both companies to focus on different emissions-free technologies." according to Financial Times: "While Mercedes-Benz has ploughed several billion euros into battery-electric technology, Daimler Trucks has taken a much broader approach.          The two Daimler companies’ largest markets are also diverging. The largest chunk of Daimler Trucks’ revenues come from the US followed by Europe, whereas China is by far Mercedes’ largest and most profitable market."   https://www.ft.com/content/64910c9a-75c4-4e7b-9ca6-2d35c009498d   GERMANY HITS 21.7% PLUGIN SHARE IN JANUARY "Germany, Europe’s largest auto market, hit 21.7% plugin electric vehicle share in January, up over 3× from January 2021. When we heard about the Hyundai Kona EV and the Kia Niro EV, we went off to try sitting in them and were pretty much sold after watching a Youtube video made in the UK.   HOW IT'S GOIGN: I tried to find something better, or something used and cheaper, but eventually I found a dealer 250 miles away that was having a sale on E-Niros. Going up to buy it on the train and then driving home in a winter storm while needing to recharge was an adventure. That was about a year ago. Since then she is our car of choice. If we charge it to 90%, we can do two grocery trips without worrying about range.   STEPHEN MURDOCH How it started: Fully charged YouTube videos. How it's going: 24kwh Nissan Leaf. What I'd like: Rivian R1S or Porsche Taycan. Best I can realistically hope for: Nissan Leaf with a bigger battery.   LUKE   How it started: Got a gas guzzling Jaguar as a courtesy car, and it had a feature that told me how much fuel certain features used in the car. Aka heated seats, heater and radio. This got me really thinking about how we use fuel and energy in our transport.   How it’s going: drive a petrol Audi A4, currently saving up for a BMW 3 series plug in hybrid. This has 37 miles electric range which is more than enough for my daily commute, and yet has a petrol engine for holiday journeys and days out. And hopefully after that, it’s full electric and goodbye fossils.     GRANTON SMITH My interest in Hybrids began when I was shopping for my first new car in about 15 years ago... I was really keen on a Prius, but it wasn't meant to be - I ended up getting into a Diesel VW Golf, because it was "greener" due to lower fuel consumption... Liars! (I'm sad about that now!)   Again about 5yrs ago I was super keen on a PHEV Mitsubishi Outlander to replace our family car. But alas, the Mrs didn't like the seats (among other things), so the PHEV missed the cut.   How it's going: Tesla model 3 ordered... It's on the boat soon (hopefully!!). Zappi 2 on its way, solar installed and generating and I'm finally ready to drive my own EV!! I can't wait!!!

Most people may know the name Tesla, which is one of the first truly zero emission vehicles on the market. It runs on batteries like many others that are in the pipeline. But there are other types that exist including an engine that runs on hydrogen. Our first guest takes us on a guided tour of the hydrogen engine and why it may represent the real future of ZEVs. His name is Xianguo Li and he is a Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering Professor at the University of Waterloo. While ZEVs may seem like an excellent purchase, the reality is that there isn’t much of a demand for them. However, when people are asked about their perception of these vehicles, they are quite high. This is known as latent demand and our next guest reveals to us how we may be able to turn that interest into actual sales. She is Zoe Long and she is the Research Manager for the Sustainable Transport Action Research Team at Simon Fraser University. In our SASS Class, we learn about how governments and people who like ZEVs can improve sales. Our guest teacher is Scott Hardman and he is a professional researcher in the Plug-in Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Research Center, in the Institute of Transportation Studies at the University of California Davis. We learn about the different types of government incentives that exist and which country happens to have the greatest success in getting people to adopt ZEVs. We also find out that governments can only do so much and that word of mouth may still be the best way to increase purchases. Show #448   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Friday 19th April 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I could find today, and picked out the best ones to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   PRODUCTION VOLKSWAGEN I.D. BUGGY WOULD BE A LOW-VOLUME HALO EV "Volkswagen has developed a penchant for bringing modern takes of some of its most famous vehicles to the world’s auto shows as all-electric concepts. Unfortunately, none of those concepts has made it through to production (yet), and with the Beetle on its way out the door, the German brand’s lineup will soon be without any heritage-inspired models. But the Volkswagen I.D. Buggy could change that." writes Brandon for Motor1.com today: "Speaking to Motor1.com as part of a media roundtable during the first day of the 2019 New York Auto Show, Volkswagen of American CEO Scott Keogh confirmed that his company would like to find a way to put a production I.D. Buggy into showrooms, saying “I think it's a good brand halo and I think it's a good brand building opportunity.” The path to production for the I.D. Buggy is still far from clear, though. According to Keogh, VW is still developing a business case for the car. If it does arrive in dealers, though, it will be as a very low-volume product. But the Buggy is uniquely positioned for service as a halo car."   https://www.motor1.com/news/345334/volkswagen-id-buggy-production-halo-ev/   KIA HABANIRO CONCEPT IS AN AWD ELECTRIC WONDER CAR FOR EVERYONE "Kia filled its press release for the HabaNiro concept with so much bombast hoisted aloft by adjectives and acronyms that we don't know what to make of the actual concept" said Autoblog today" Conceived and designed at the Kia Design Center America (KDCA) in California, the HabaNiro's labeled "a whole new category of mobility – 'The Everything Car' or ECEV." The "fully-electric, all-wheel drive, four-seat wonder car" goes more than 300 miles between charges, has butterfly wing doors and Level 5 autonomy. On the other hand, considering this is a concept, the boasts and technology could be considered humble. Kia says "this is no fanciful supercar that will likely never be built, but a prescient look into the future of mobility where automobiles will seamlessly integrate design, capability, usefulness and creativity."   https://www.autoblog.com/2019/04/17/kia-habaniro-concept-nyias/   NIKOLA WOWS HUGE CROWD WITH FIVE ZERO-EMISSION VEHICLES "Nikola Motor Company went all out with its big reveal, showcasing five future vehicles, including the Nikola Two, Tre, NZT, Wav, and Reckless." says Steven Loveday for InsideEVs.com: "In a time when many startups are struggling to move forward in the segment, and some legacy automakers continue to push concept after concept with little to show, it’s difficult for companies like Nikola to earn support. Not to mention that it first came along as what seemed to be a “hydrogen only” automaker. Now, it seems that’s not necessarily the case. In fact, Nikola CEO Trevor Milton admitted that hydrogen is not efficient and not practical in many cases. However, for fleet vehicles and military use, it could definitely have its merits." Nikola said: "There are currently more than 13,000 Nikola trucks on order. The Nikola trucks feature up to 1,000 horsepower and 2,000 ft-lbs of torque. Nikola recently announced a battery-electric vehicle option for the urban, short haul trucking market.   In the comments Micke Larrson: "“There are currently more than 13,000 Nikola trucks on order. ” No, there hasn’t been a single order yet. Free reservations for everyone is not an order. It’s not that hard, if you don’t sign anything, commit to anything and don’t pay for anything it is nowhere close to being an order of any kind. And there is still no sign on how they will build, sell and make any kind of economic sense out of these vaporware presentations. It is way too early to call it anything but vaporware."   https://insideevs.com/nikola-wows-crowd-five-zero-emission-vehicles/   TESLA’S ELON MUSK REPORTEDLY SPOKE WITH POLISH PM ABOUT ELECTROMOBILITY ADOPTION Plenty of outlets today talked about a possible Tesla Gigafactory in Poland, but I'll pick up from Teslarati: "In a recent statement, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki admitted that he had spoken to Elon Musk about initiatives that could push electromobility further. While it took some time for the conversation to be arranged, the Prime Minister noted that he was able to speak with the Tesla CEO directly. Poland is also among the countries which are looking to be the site for Tesla’s Europe Gigafactory, which Elon Musk has mentioned in the past. Musk discussed Gigafactory 4 (a tentative name for the upcoming facility) back in July 2018, stating that Germany is the leading choice for the Europe-based factory. Poland, for its part, has noted that its initiatives such as its Strategy for Responsible Development and organizations such as the Polish Development Fund will support Tesla if the company builds Gigafactory 4 in the country"   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-elon-musk-polish-prime-minister-gigafactory-4-electromobility/   JAGUAR IS DEVELOPING AN ELECTRIC CAR TO JOIN I-PACE CROSSOVER "Straight from nabbing the World Car of the Year award at the New York International Auto Show for the new 2019 I-Pace electric crossover, as well as publicly unveiling the 2020 XE sport sedan, Jaguar's design chief says the brand is also developing a car with a fully electric powertrain." according to Sven Gustafson for Autoblog: "We are doing more battery cars at Jaguar, yes," Ian Callum told Autoblog. "That's all I'm saying." Callum wouldn't divulge further details except to add, "When you're doing electric cars, they're new cars. They're not just batteries put in an old car. You can't do that."   https://www.autoblog.com/2019/04/17/jaguar-electric-car/   TESLA CAPTURES 45% OF ELECTRIC CAR SALES IN EUROPE IN MARCH Mark Kane at InsideEVs.com has the latest on the Model 3 sales in Europe: "Sales of new passenger electric cars in Western Europe reached new record levels in March and in the first quarter, mostly thanks to a full month of volume deliveries of the Tesla Model 3. According to industry analyst Matthias Schmidt (schmidtmatthias.de), the total number of registrations amounted to 40,400 in March at 2.5% market share, and 80,900 in Q1 at 2.1% market share. With around 44.8% market share among BEVs, Tesla is a new undisputed market leader, although not as dominant as in the U.S., where 75% share was achieved in March (which is not even a record)."   https://insideevs.com/march-ev-sales-europe-40000-tesla/   TESLA IS PLANNING A BIGGER MODEL S/X REFRESH THAN WE THOUGHT Electrek has the big rumour story today: "Tesla is planning a full powertrain refresh that could launch at the same time as the previously reported interior design refresh. Earlier this month, we reported on Tesla’s Project Raven; an electric motor upgrade coming for Model S and Model X. Sources with access to Tesla’s latest software told Electrek that the code shows that the automaker is now working on Model S and Model X vehicles with the same battery architecture based on the 2170 battery cells found in Model 3."   https://electrek.co/2019/04/17/tesla-model-s-x-refresh-upgrade/   CANADIAN PRICING REVEALED FOR KIA SOUL EV & NIRO EV One of the Canadian dealers – Brantford Kia – shared info about the two new Kia BEVs that are coming to Canada this year. The presentation is a little chaotic, but it includes the prices, which is the most interesting part: Kia Soul EV (e-Soul) – $42,595 CAD ($31,852 USD) Kia Niro EV (e-Niro) – $44,995 CAD ($33,647 USD) *both with 64 kWh battery and 150 kW electric motor   https://insideevs.com/canadian-price-kia-soul-ev-niro-ev/   VW: “OUR BATTERIES LAST THE LIFE OF A CAR” Frank Blome, Head of Volkswagen’s Center of Excellence for Battery Cells said in an interview today: "Our aim is always for our batteries to last as long as the cars. We guarantee a minimum capacity of 70 percent for eight years or 160,000 kilometers. But drivers can also influence the length of a battery’s service life. Normal charging is better for the batteries than rapid charging, and charging the batteries up to just 80 instead of 100 percent also increases their service life. Many customers tend to drive short distances, like going to work or going shopping. The battery doesn’t have to be charged 100 percent for that. You do your driving and charge the car when needed, usually at your home wallbox. For our next MEB models we’re currently working with three partners as strategic suppliers of battery cells. They are LG Chem and SKI for Europe, and CATL for China. SKI will also supply our battery cells for the US market."   BATTLE OF THE BIG AUTO MAKERS Leaders of the Auto industry have been talking to journalists at New York Auto Show. Scott Keogh, CEO of VW U.S, talked openly to the press about TEsla's Model 3: "“Even if it’s 10 percent of the market, we want to pursue it. We have not seen in the history of the auto business, a company going from zero to fourth place in luxury in a matter of a few years.” Bob Carter, executive vice president of sales for Toyota Motor North America, said: "The average vehicle today costs $34,000 and for many EVs, the battery costs $34,000. The economics are not there.”   https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-04-16/toyota-pooh-poohs-electric-cars-as-volkswagen-vows-an-embrace   HARLEY-DAVIDSON OPENS PRE-ORDERS IN EUROPE & CANADA FOR LIVEWIRE ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE Micah Toll for Electrek notes that another electric bike is now open for orders: "Harley-Davidson has indicated while pre-orders are now open in Europe, there will be a limited supply of LiveWire electric motorcycles available on the continent. LiveWire deliveries in Europe are expected to begin this fall, which will also align with deliveries in the US. The price of the LiveWire in the UK has been set at £28,995 (or about US $37,800). That’s a substantial increase over the US price of $29,799."   https://electrek.co/2019/04/18/harley-davidson-livewire-pre-orders-europe-canada/   ONCE-HAILED ‘TESLA KILLER’ AUDI E-TRON SLOWS DOWN PRODUCTION TO JUST 6 HRS/DAY: REPORT "The Audi e-tron, once dubbed by avid Tesla critics as a potential “Tesla Killer,” is reportedly running into production problems due to a constrained supply of batteries and a slower-than-expected delivery of electric motors." says Simon at Teslarati picking up on an article by The Brussels Times: "The local publication’s sources claim that LG Chem is pushing up prices, resulting in Audi having to compete with rival automakers like BMW and Mercedes-Benz to acquire batteries for the e-tron. This is but half of the e-tron plant’s current issues, according to the Times‘ sources. Audi is reportedly seeing delays in the deliveries of the e-tron’s electric motors as well."   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-killer-audi-etron-battery-production-update/   COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. The BC government on Tuesday announcing a mandate requiring that 10 percent of all new vehicle sales in the province be battery-electric or hybrid-electric by 2025. That's just to start... by 2030, the mandate is a minimum 30% EV or hybrid vehicle sales, and 100% by 2040. Under the enabling legislation, the B.C. government intends to boost funding for subsidies by $20-million this year, to encourage British Columbians to purchase EVs and hybrids. BC currently offers rebates of $5,000 for a new battery electric car, or half that for a hybrid. Environmental scientist Blair King applauds the concept, but says it's simply unrealistic...
