Scripture - Luke 18:1-8; “The Widow's Plea”  The Parable: “The Widow's Plea” is an earthly narrative with a heavenly meaning - We should always pray and not give up! This is a story that lets us know that there will be challenges and difficulties that we all will face. But in this parable Jesus is teaching us to endure - to not give up and to do so through prayer - leaning into Him and trusting Him. The parable begins be telling of a judge that didn't know God and didn't care at all about people - and there's a widow that continues to go to the judge for justice against her adversary. Over and over again and again she goes to him and each time he refuses to help her until he gets so tired of her continually pursuing him for justice that he finally gives in so she would leave him alone. Jesus goes on, “and will not God bring about justice for His chosen ones who cry out to Him day and night? Will He keep putting them off?” Many interpret this to mean we need to be relentless in pounding on God's door for what is just and what is right and what we need. But what Jesus is actually doing is challenging us to compare what we know of the unjust judge to what we know about him, the righteous judge,The Living God, who cares for us all. The unjust judge doesn't care about this widow, he only care about himself. God is NOT like that!  GOD CARES! Jesus is saying that if even an unjust judge responds to pleas, don't you know God who sees His children as precious will care so much more and will respond to His children. God is good and gracious and nothing like this unjust judge. When things are rough and it seems that God is not listening, that is NOT the case! For our God is a righteous and caring judge! Let's compare the two: The Judge     ⁃    Unjust     ⁃    Unloving     ⁃    Uncaring     ⁃    Merciless     ⁃    Evil     ⁃    Rude God     ⁃    Just     ⁃    Loving     ⁃    Caring     ⁃    Merciful     ⁃    Good     ⁃    Gracious God wants us to always pray and not give up. The Lord wants us to bring our needs to Him, our concerns and worries to Him, our struggles, our cries and our pleas and to understand how good He is. PRAYER MAKES GOD REAL! When we talk to God and bring to Him the cares and concerns of our lives - His presence becomes real - in that circumstance we are living by faith! We're not giving up hope - We're praying by faith to the Living God. Jesus finishes with, “I tell you, He (The Father) will see that they (His children) get justice, and suddenly. However, when the Son of Man (Jesus) comes, will He find faith on earth?” Jesus is saying here for us not to give up hope.  Don't allow the threats of opposition and attacks of the enemy to drive us away from Him, Living God who alone delivers us. Don't allow the opposition of others to take our eyes off the goodness of God and the love of the Lord Jesus Christ. Hang on to your faith!!! Hang on to your faith as never before! How?     1.    Pray to God - because prayer makes Him real!     2.    Listen to and meditate on His Word     3.    Be encouraged by fellow believers, those who have faith to live for God. Pastor shares a powerful story of God's victory in pain from the book “Walk On” by Ben Malcolmson. In Summary, hang onto the Lord!! It's a battle out there, but our God has won the victory. We will win because Jesus has already won!! It was supposed to just be a fun story for the USC student newspaper, but Ben Malcolmson's tryout for the Trojans football team led to a spot as a walk-on wide receiver—and a lengthy professional relationship with head coach Pete Carroll, whom Ben served as a special assistant when Carroll became head coach of the Seattle Seahawks. Ben's story wasn't without its challenges, pitfalls, and disappointments, but in the fullness of time, he came to understand the purpose God had in mind for him—and why God had put him on such an amazing path. Ben talks with Nate Dewberry on this week's podcast about his experiences in the fast-paced world of professional football, living fully in our identities in Christ, and staying willing to trust God's for us even when the full picture isn't immediately clear.Visit The Redeemed's website for downloadable discussion question sets, show notes, inspirational articles, more resources, or to share your testimony.Join our Exclusive Newsletter: Signup today and be the first to get notified on upcoming podcasts and new resources! The Redeemed is an organization giving men from all backgrounds a supportive, judgment-free environment, grounded in Christian love without demanding participation in any faith tradition, where they can open up about their challenges, worries, and failures—and celebrate their triumphs over those struggles. Walk On is the fascinating memoir of Ben Malcolmson, a student with virtually no football experience who became a “walk on”—a non-recruited player—for the 2007 University of Southern California Rose Bowl champion team. A college journalist, Malcolmson decided to write a first-person account of the grueling tryout process. To his disbelief, he won a coveted spot on the team. After joining the team, Malcolmson’s faith compelled him to find God’s purpose for him in this unexpected opportunity. But his teammates’ indifference to discussions of faith left him discouraged. As he prayed for direction, Malcolmson read the powerful reminder in Isaiah where God says: “My word . . . will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it” (Isaiah 55:11). Inspired by Isaiah’s words, Malcolmson anonymously gave every player on the team a Bible. Again, he was met with rejection. But years later, Malcolmson learned one player had read the Bible he’d been given—and shortly before his tragic death had demonstrated a relationship with and hunger for God, who he discovered in the pages of that Bible. It’s likely that many of us have shared Jesus with a friend or family member, only to be met with indifference or outright rejection. But even when we don’t see results right away, God’s truth is powerful and will accomplish God’s purposes in His timing.

Ben Malcolmson spent 13 years as the right hand to Pete Carroll, head coach of the Seattle Seahawks.  So much of what I've learned about what it looks like to live in the way of the Secret Society is what I've seen modeled from Ben. When asked in an interview how we should show up in a supporting role, Ben responded, “Be as selfless as possible … as you help someone else be at their best, you're being at your best … it's such an honor to serve someone.”  And that right there is a picture of who Ben is and how he operates.  If we want to build a winning team, there's so much for us to learn from Ben about what it looks like to support others from the sidelines.    **Order a copy of Ben's book "Walk On": https://amzn.to/3OaQarr **Order your copy of “The Secret Society of Success” on Audible: https://adbl.co/3uSHzTs

#31: Ben was Seattle Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll's right hand man. From a University of Southern California walk on to the NFL sidelines Ben shares his story of faith & purpose. As a student at USC Ben wrote for the Daily Trojan. He was focused on pursing a career in journalism. What started as a good idea about documenting what it was like to go through walk on tryouts for the USC football team turned into even more than what he imagined. Ben made the team. This was at the prime of the USC football dynasty in the 2000's. Throughout his time at USC Ben connected and developed a relationship with Coach Pete Carroll. It led to an opportunity to work on the USC football staff and then with Coach Carroll to the Seattle Seahawks. In Ben's book "Walk On" (From Pee Wee Dropout to the Sidelines - My Unlikely Story of Football, Purpose, and Following an Amazing God) he talks about "the nudge". He shares that every time he gets the nudge from God of stepping out in faith he tries to take it. In the show you will see how many times he has done just that and in the moment he didn't see the results that he thought he would. However, God has bigger and better plans. From his own experiences you will see how sometimes it is not the momentary results, but the courage and diligence to act and follow God's nudge in your life, even when you can't see the outcome. For more info on Ben Malcolmson check out https://benmalcolmson.com/His Book - Walk On (also being turned into a movie)Enjoy the show!

Many of us believe our lives are just a series of random events that have little meaning. We live it out day by day, walking aimlessly. And yet, in the back of our hearts and minds remains this ever quiet voice saying "What if there is more? There has to be more to life than this. What on earth am I here for?" It's this voice of longing and purpose that keeps us moving. What if you weren't here on accident? What if you were here very much on purpose? God created us with great intention and hard focused purpose. Nothing was by accident. You and I were created by God with great intentionality and hard focused purpose. Our lives begin to take shape when we not only learn these truths about our lives but surrender to them every single day. YOU HAVE A GREAT PURPOSE My guest on today's episode of Adventurous Faith understands the meaning of purpose. How can I say that? Because he has spent almost his entire life watching God map it out for him in an incredible story that only God could write. Ben Malcolmson is the Special Assistance to Pete Caroll of the Seattle Seahawks. But Ben's journey to the NFL sidelines takes some crazy turns to get there. Ben's story is inspiring, funny, and full of purpose and an Amazing God who always is looking out for us. There is a lot of encouragement you will receive from our conversation. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN ON TODAY'S EPISODE You were created for a purpose. Despite all of what we have done, we are sons and daughters of God and our identity is first found in him. How God is calling us to surrender the direction of our lives to him and the great story he is calling us to. You have a story - and God continues to write it for you every single day. he is just asking you to participate in it. RESOURCES MENTIONED ON TODAY'S SHOW Walk On - Ben's New Book Ben's Instagram

In 1995, after a disheartening Pee Wee football experience, undersized fifth-grader Ben Malcolmson solemnly vowed never to step onto a football field again. And no one was more shocked than Ben, 11 years later, to find his name on a list of football players added to the #1 ranked USC Trojan football team after their spring walk-on tryouts.  In 2010, Malcolmson was asked to move to Seattle with Head Coach, Pete Carroll, to be his Special Assistant. Ben has been with the Hawks ever since.

It's time for our annual season expectations show and we kick things off with some of the latest news, including a contract extension for Duane Brown. A former Super Bowl 48 Champion is coming back to the team as the Seahawks look to the right side of the offensive line that seems to have a lot of question marks around it. The Seahawks had their first scrimmage of preseason and the guys talk about some of the players who stood out. Leading up to the first preseason game against the Colts, Brandan and Adam share their thoughts on what groups they'll be watching throughout the game. Adam is more interested on offense with the group of running backs and narrowing down some of the battles for the final wide receiver spots as well as rookie tight end Will Dissly. On the defensive side of the ball, Shaquem Griffin and Tedrick Thompson should get some extended playing time and while Seahawks fans haven't seen much from Thompson, K.J. Wright (who thinks he'd make a good future GM) says T2 is going to be really good. The guys also discuss who they see as a breakout star, comeback player, rising star, a player not to forget about, a guy who needs to rebound, and their darkhorse MVP candidates. There's also a disagreement over which player gets the coveted title as the best looking player. Ben Malcolmson, special assistant to Pete Carroll, joins the show this week to talk about his experiences with the team and the leadership he saw from Coach Carroll following the Super Bowl loss. He has a new book out titled, "Walk On: From Pee Wee Dropout to the NFL Sidelines--My Unlikely Story of Football, Purpose, and Following an Amazing God." Ben talks about what it's like for an average guy to make it on a top college football team in the country and how he ultimately made it on the field for one play at the end of the season. He also talks about some players on the Seahawks who also have underdog stories. In the final segment of the show, Max sends in a note via YouTube asking a few questions about the upcoming season. Which Seahawks running back will ultimately have the most yards this season? And which player from another team would Adam and Brandan rather have in Seattle? An ESPN writer and Apple engineers need to do better this week and a campground and a podcast listener share this week's Better At Life honors. “I'm just going to go for it,” is exactly what Ben Malcolmson, a former football player turned author, had the courage to do when he finally decided to write his book WALK ON. WALK ON had a dual meaning for Ben, who now works for the Seattle Seahawks alongside Pete Carroll, as it represented his journey walking on to the USC football team, as well as walking on through all the hardships he endured and had to overcome with regards to being a no-name player that had to work extra hard to get noticed. In this #LifeWithoutLimits podcast, Ben goes into depth with Yogi Roth discussing how his journey has led him to seek to find his true purpose in life. It's a unique conversation, as Ben and Yogi met the day of Walk On tryouts, as Yogi was a coach at USC at the time as well as a former Walk On at the University of Pittsburgh. Roth and Malcolmson reminisce over their football glory days but collectively determined that there is nothing better than being a part of something bigger than yourself. You'll be amazed by how Ben made the team, gain insight into his lone snap at USC, learn about the inner workings of major college football and the NFL and of course, you'll be inspired by Ben's mission to help everyone longing for fulfillment to seek to find the best version of themselves.Find WALK ON everywhere books are sold and follow @BenMalcolmson for updates on his incredible journey. For more conversations about those seeking to be their best selves visit www.yogiroth.com/podcast/
