After which he shares: 1.    ·      Why with very few exceptions, the best time to go anywhere is immediately after political insurrection, a civil war, or a natural disaster ·      The state of the airlines today – who's really running them, how if at all they're preparing for another software glitch, etc. ·      Overtourism and how destinations are handling it ·      The many treasures of Egypt, including the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the Grand Egyptian Museum aka “GEM” (plus he recounts exploring the inside of a pyramid that was only just discovered) ·      Some of what makes Uganda and Rwanda so special ·      Why every American needs to buy an atlas ·      How the cruise industry is changing rapidly when it comes to technology and sustainability ·      Why he'll only travel to a place where he knows who's in control ·      Why he has a bone to pick with US State Department Travel Advisories ·      Why the worst four-letter word that starts with “f” when it comes to travel is “fear”.

"The view of the sunset over the Mediterranean sea can be quite picturesque and the colours of the sunset can be quite vivid. "It is also worth noting that Alexandria has a long history and many historical landmarks, such as the Lighthouse of Alexandria, the Montazah Palace, and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, which could make for a great backdrop for viewing the sunset. A strong religious atmosphere is always present, as the resounding voices of the minarets of the mosque can be heard in the distance." Egypt marks 200 years since hieroglyphs deciphered

A three-day exhibition kicked off September 26 in the Egyptian coastal city of Alexandria to celebrate the bicentenary of the deciphering of the Egyptian hieroglyphs, which paved the way to unlock the meaning of the writings engraved on the walls of ancient temples and papyri. The exhibition features a replica of the Rosetta Stone, which proved instrumental in deciphering the hieroglyphs. The original Rosetta Stone, discovered by French soldiers in Egypt in 1799, is at the British Museum, where it is one of the highlights on display. The exhibition marking the 200th anniversary of the deciphering of the ancient writing system was hosted at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina library. "Deciphering the ancient Egyptian language (script) in 1822 was a very important event," said Ahmed Mansour, the director of the library's writing and scripts center. For historians and Egyptologists, the ability to understand the ancient writing system was crucial to learning more about the ancient Egyptians. "We understood the ancient Egyptian civilization better" because of the discovery that was made by French scientist Jean-François Champollion, said Mansour. He added that attempts to learn about that part of history prior to the deciphering of the writing system had been incomplete. Hieroglyphic carvings found in ancient papyri, sarcophagi and on the walls of temples have preserved messages for millennia. But archaeologists could unlock the writing after the discovery of the Rosetta Stone, which repeats the same script in three different writing systems including hieroglyphs. According to the British Museum's website, researchers used the Ancient Greek writing to understand the characters used in hieroglyphs. "We consider this discovery a very big revolution in the history of ancient languages," said Ahmed Zayed, director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. The Bibliotheca Alexandrina itself, where the exhibition is hosted, has a significant history as the modern library was built in tribute to the famed Library of Alexandria that burned to the ground when Julius Caesar set fire to an enemy fleet in 48 B.C. In this third episode that coincides with Pantheacon, we talk to P. Sufenas Virius Lupus about the evolution of gender in regards to Deity. Do the Gods really care about their, and our, gender? Can we create new deities that are inclusive and that work for us? How have we evolved in our thinking around gender? How does pagan isolationism contribute to issues of gender and inclusion? We also talk about how sharing and listening to the stories of people can put a human face onto the “other.” (And there’s some Buffy spoilers for the uninitiated.) P.
