How many punches do you have on your gay card? This week Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with Matison Card (@matisoncard), a lesbian singer-songwriter, actor, and reality tv contestant on Coming Out For Love, the first US lesbian dating show. Although the show just became available for streaming this summer, it was actually recorded 2 years ago. So what has fan favorite Matison been up to since then? We dive into what Matison has been doing since filming wrapped (spoiler alert: there's a UHaul and karaoke involved!). We also talk about what it was really like behind the scenes of a queer reality dating show, what Matison learned about relationships from the experience, and where dating shows go wrong when it comes to casting and creating potential matches. It turns out you cannot just throw a bunch of sapphics in a room and expect them to bang, even if they are all astrology gays. We explore the best friends to lovers pipeline, the lesser talked about lesbian relationship benefits (being the same shoe size as your partner is severely underrated), and the bizarreness of trying to match whole adults with people whose frontal lobes have not even fully developed yet. For those of you who have not yet seen Nicole Conn's Coming Out For Love, you can check out the whole first season and get into all the juicy gay drama here.  Don't forget to follow us on the platform formerly known as Twitter: Lez Hang Out (@lezhangoutpod) and answer our Q & Gay questions at the end of every episode. ***SPOILER WARNING! AS WITH ALL SPECIAL EDITIONS, WE WILL DISCUSS EVERY DISGUTING DETAIL OF THE MOVIE***The announcement that David Cronenberg was returning to science-fiction body horror was met with a mix of excitement and trepidation. There is no doubting that he is one of the most influential directors of all time. His influence can be found in a number of movies. Still, it has been a while since he has made one of these types of movies. Is Crimes of the Future his triumphant return or a relic of the past? The movie is about a performance artist named Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen) and her partner Caprice (Lea Seydoux). The pair use their performances to showcase changes in the human body. They soon get caught up in a mystery that includes government conspiracies and murder.Cronenberg films have always contained a heavy dose of sexuality and Crimes of the Future is no different. In this case, surgery and sex are a running theme. "Surgery is the new sex" is a great nu-metal lyric, but how well did it work in this movie? Do things go too far?The other big selling point for the film was the return to body horror. Based on still shots and trailers, there was a lot of freaky stuff going on. Earman alone is enough body horror for some. Does Crimes of the Future live up to fan expectations? And what will people who have heard of Cronenberg's work think?Crimes of the Future is about more than sex, surgery, and grossing audiences out. There is a surprisingly grounded story here. The question becomes, is it too down to earth? Should the plot have taken a more fantastic slant? We also discuss how well the mystery worked and the if the futuristic setting seemed dated.Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Léa Seydoux was a talented young French actor when she reached planet-wide stardom with her incredible performance in “Blue Is The Warmest Color” (she even shared the Palm d'Or at Cannes, which had never been awarded to actors before). Since then she has invaded Hollywood, starring in James Bond movies and Wes Anderson films, but also continuing to turn in exceptional performances for international directors like Yorgos Lanthimos, Arnaud Desplechin, Ildikó Enyedi, and, for her latest film “France,” Bruno Dumont. In this episode, she talks about the “sweet craziness” of working with Dumont, the importance of learning the “language” of the director, why their differences of approach are actual what appeals to her, how cinema saved her life, and much more.

This month, we start by talking about Paul Walker's death and how it affects the future of FAST & FURIOUS 7. On the lighter side of things, Steve recommends a movie to me that he didn't care for at all, but felt I would really enjoy: director William Friedkin's 1983 flop DEAL OF THE CENTURY, a war arms satire starring Chevy Chase! I review what I feel is the best film of 2013 so far, 12 YEARS A SLAVE, plus BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR, Spike Lee's remake of OLD BOY and BIG STAR: NOTHING CAN HURT ME, a documentary about the 70s rock band whose cult following brought them out of obscurity. We also talk about the golden days of movie novelizations and Steve reviews INDIE GAME: THE MOVIE which is a revealing doc about the merciless and painful obsession of creating video games.

The public conflict between the director and actors of Blue Is The Warmest Color has overshadowed discussion of the film, which inspired us to return to a favorite Dissolve topic: how much “extratextual” things like behind-the-scene production stories, directorial intent, or our feelings about a filmmaker should affect how we watch or interpret a film. Then, spinning off the release of Machete Kills, we discuss where neo-grindhouse movies from Black Dynamite to Hobo With A Shotgun are coming from, and what modern audiences get out of all these self-aware retro films. This week’s game is Common Denominator, where players have to identify extremely familiar characters from a list of the actors who played them at various points. Finally, Matt Singer and Scott Tobias throw down in our competitive recommendation segment, 30 Seconds To Sell. (Hint: You owe Matt a life. Yes, you.)
