Ever wondered what it feels like to face the aftermath of a car/pedestrian accident, well Yolanda's vivid accounts transport us into the heart of her experiences and the after-effects of the shock. Isaac, explains to us what "Duck Butter" is and he also lets us in on some things he's trying to cope with. As we conclude our heartfelt conversation, we leave you with some food for thought on societal norms, the pressures of being a 'pretty girl', and the need for boundaries. Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner welcoming you to this episode of Succotash that numbers 339. This is my first fully produced episode for 2023, and I thank you for making this your listening destination for the next more-or-less half-hour of your life. Did you catch Epi338 last week? In it, executive producer and show creator Marc Hershon brought you an episode called "First-of-the-year Foursome" in which he selected for you a quartet of clips from the soundcasts known as SNAFU, The Retrospectors' Today in History, The Worst Idea of All Time, and Unpopular Opinion. Also in that episode a brand new advertisement from "our longtime, non-paying, and completely fake sponsor Henderson's Pants featuring the new Bottoms Up Cargo Pants, with a design inspired by our very own Bill Heywatt". So that's fun. On a serious note…It was pointed out in that episode that THIS episode of Succotash will be the 100th that I have assembled. Some very nice and thoughtful things were said in that episode regarding my contributions to Succotash over the years and I couldn't be more grateful to be a part of this operation going on 9 years this April. It's nice to be appreciated. This week on Succotash, I have 4 clips for you, from the soundcasts The Movies That Made Me, Of Mice and Men and Monsters, The Three Questions with Andy Richter, and…what's basically a bonus clip from Sensibly Cynical to lead off the proceedings…if that's the correct way to put things. And the whole shootin' match is brought to you by Henderson's Pants working man and woman's favorite: CoverAlls! CLIPS Sensibly Cynical Recently over at the soundcast known as Sensibly Cynical, host Sean Pratten put together a clip show comprised of moments he determined to be the "Best of 2022". I have been fortunate enough to be asked to guest on his program 5 times in recent years, and Sean graciously decided to include a snippet of one of our conversations that took place in 2022. Eventually, we put together a list that was a "Mount Rushmore" of rock music. This clip is from earlier in the conversation. The Movies That Made Me Filmmakers and entertainers discuss the movies that inspired them. Hosted by Oscar nominated screenwriter and Trailers From Hell guru Josh Olson and fearless leader himself, director Joe Dante. The Movies That Made Me is recorded live in Hollywood and engineered by film composer Don Barrett. Our clip is from the premiere episode which dropped back in July of 2018 with guest, director Miguel Arteta (Beatriz At Dinner, The Good Girl, Duck Butter), who joins to discuss his love for the movies of Russ Meyer. Of Mice And Men And MonstersFrom the show's description, this is a real play podcast where Dungeons & Dragons collides with the classic stories you either love or completely avoided while in school. Join players Aaron, Adam, Kimmie, and Dungeon Master Katelyn, who is also a high school English teacher by day, as D&D elements are dropped into famous pieces of literature. The clip comes from July 27th, 2022 - Chapter 49: "Macbeth - Part 1" - As our heroes arrive at Lady Macbeth's villa, the hunt for the 2nd mysterious page has officially begun! The Three Questions with Andy RichterAs the show's description enlightens us regarding this soundcast: host Andy Richter asks the same three questions to each guest: Where do you come from? Where are you going? What have you learned? These three simple questions, when answered honestly and thoughtfully, are enough to provide a pretty complete picture of who a person is. The answers are what Andy always wants to know about people. This will not be a one-sided process, as Andy won't shy away from getting personal himself. I'm clipping from right toward the end of this past year, the epi that dropped the day after Christmas. Andy's guests are The Sklar Brothers. Randy and Jason join Andy Richter to discuss the marriage of sports and comedy, finding their scene(s), going to the same college as your twin, and much more. Congratulations to us! We made it to the end of the beginning of Succotash 2023. Episode #339 comes more-or-less neatly to a close, and here we all are tearfully waving at it from the docks as it heads for the Undying Lands of the internet where nothing really goes away unless magnets… Hopefully?…We will have hard drives in our heads that will be magnetically shielded against accidental EMPs or perhaps M.R.I. machines…I'm not 100% sure how all that works, but I am grasping at straws. Maybe things are supposed to go away regardless of modern methods of record-keeping. The more I think about it, I realize that all methods of record-keeping were "modern" at one point. Thankfully, we have the podcast — or the soundcast as we refer to them here on Succotash — as a way of keeping records that exist as long as the methods that preserve them are sound, and people take the time to listen to them. So, thank you for taking some of your time to listen to us. We really appreciate it. Perhaps you'd like to share your experience of us with other people? We'd also appreciate that. And tank you to everyone at Succotash for making me feel welcome over the years…Thank you, the audience, for being with us whenever you are or were. Be decent to each other, and if someone asks you if you have heard anything good or interesting lately, and we happen to qualify as your answer…won't you please pass the Succotash? — Tyson Saner

Award-winning actor and producer Alia Shawkat broke out in Hollywood as a teenager, which proved to be both blessing and curse. Like any struggling artist, she's had to challenge the industry's preconceptions as well as her own, folding each new endeavor into her evolving artistic philosophy. She has several rules pertaining to acting: One is to watch everything you appear in, but only twice. Another is to reassess what you want out of your craft and career every few years. “You have to keep falling in love with it,” Alia says. “There's a timing and a luck to this. And then just perseverance.” The California–born Alia became a breakout child actor, on first “State of Grace” and then as Maeby Fünke on the long-running, SAG Award–nominated “Arrested Development.” She has appeared on “Drunk History,” “Transparent,” and “Broad City,” and starred in “Whip It,” “The To Do List,” “The Final Girl,” “Blaze,” “Duck Butter,” and “Animals.” Alia produces the TBS-to-HBO Max mystery series “Search Party,” starring as Dory Sief for five hilarious seasons, the last of which premieres Jan. 7. She also stars in Aaron Sorkin's Amazon Studios film “Being the Ricardos” as “I Love Lucy” writer Madelyn Pugh. This episode is brought to you by HBO. An honest conversation about the Hollywood creative industry with actress Alia Shawkat. We talk about how to self-represent as a queer Arab woman in Hollywood, biracial ‘passing’ and Western privilege and breaking through the role of the ‘ethnic best friend’. Speaker bio: Alia Shawkat is an Irish-Iraqi actress, scriptwriter and artist working in Hollywood. She has appeared in over 45 TV shows and movies, she is known for her TV roles as Hannah Rayburn in State of Grace, Maeby Fünke in the Fox/Netflix television sitcom Arrested Development and Dory Sief in the TBS and HBO Max comedy series Search Party. Selected movies include Whip It, Animals and The Runaway; Shawkat co-wrote and starred in queer indie drama Duck Butter. She is also a painter and is currently writing a pilot for a TV show about her life. Donate! Please consider subscribing to our Patreon on our website. Raised on Orcas Island off the coast of Washington state, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith's compositions are surreal yet rooted in nature. Combining the organic elements of her upbringing with the technological prowess gained from her studies at Berklee College of Music, Kaitlyn's impact on modern music is distinct and significant. Informed by her experimentation and the unique sounds of the Buchla 100 synthesizer, Kaitlyn's music has put her on the path to global recognition. This upward trajectory was later cemented with the release of her 2015 full-length, Euclid, on Western Vinyl. The following year saw the launch of her celebrated 2016 album, EARS, as well as a collaboration with new age pioneer Suzanne Ciani. Both EARS and Kaitlyn's subsequent full length album The Kid have earned numerous best-of nods from the likes of Pitchfork, NPR, Rolling Stone and SPIN. Additionally, Kaitlyn has been regularly scoring film, TV shows and spots for brands. Her collaborations include projects with Google, Reggie Watts and Ben Dickinson’s short film Brasilia, as well as the 2018 Duplass brothers film Duck Butter. Kaitlyn's participation in the 2018 Telekinesis event saw her performing with the BBC Orchestra, and later that year she headlined alongside Grizzly Bear and TV On The Radio at the Hollywood Bowl. https://www.instagram.com/kaitlynaurelia/http://eastforest.org/podcast

Greetings, citizens! First and foremost we're sorry you didn't get this episode much earlier. We recorded it on Sunday. Folks...this episode was a BITCH to put up. From technical difficulties while recording, to file problems, to computer problems...it was like it didn't want to be put out. Nevertheless, here it is. The last in the trilogy of Steve's "hangups". We wanted to call it "The Babadook Series" (you'll hear why), but that would be false advertising to any new listeners. That's just a small part of this episode though. Here are just a few things we discuss: Attention Deficit Order's introduction of "Duck Butter" to us. Jason Mamoa vs Lenny Kravitz: whose got worse Duck Butter The coolness factor of Billy Dee Williams Listener mail / voicemail The joy of kegeling Catching "The Babadook" Wedding songs The Billy Joel concert fiasco The fantastic weekend of Johnny Bucks The podcast family Steve's definition of a "quickie" And there's plenty more. Welcome the newest episode of Dark Discussions, your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that’s fantastic. Welcome to the latest edition of Halloween Boutique Psychotronic Reviews – a podcast that reviews and critiques films released by boutique labels that have taken old and sometimes forgotten midnight movies and re-releases them in special editions where the quality of the picture is fully remastered, usually from onetime lost or privately owned negatives or prints. This month is a bit different. This volume rather than doing an episode on midnight movies, I instead have focused on a subject. With June being LGBTQ Pride Month, I have searched about and found seven films specific to a lesbian theme. But unlike the typical exploitation films released by boutique companies, I’ve focused exclusively with arthouse films of the serious type. The seven movies reviewed are of various quality, with a few being outstanding, and a handful being wonderful surprises. The films include alphabetically AWOL (2016), BARE (2015), BELOW HER MOUTH (2016), BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR (2013), DUCK BUTTER (2018), ROOM IN ROME (2010), and SUMMERTIME (2015). Sorry for the long delay between episodes, but I am now back. As always we welcome your comments: darkdiscussions@aol.com (written email or attached mp3 files) WWW.DARKDISCUSSIONS.COM

We welcome a real-life mom to guest-review the hard-hitting mama drama of TULLY, then go from the youthful foolishness of the lesbian sex comedy DUCK BUTTER to the wisdom and maturity of RBG. *Originally recorded May 2*
Alia Shawkat came by the Bullseye studios and holy moly, what a brilliant, funny human being! You know her as Maeby Fünke from TV's Arrested Development, which just dropped its fifth season. She also leads the TBS series Search Party these days. But Alia just starred in a really interesting film - it's called Duck Butter, and it tells the story of two women who fall in love and decide to spend the next 24 hours together, awake and totally present. Then, Mackenzie Crook. You've seen him before - maybe it was as Gareth on the original UK version of The Office. Or maybe you saw him in Pirates of the Caribbean or Game of Thrones. But his passion project is Detectorists - a three season British show he stars in and create. It's finally come to the states in its entirety via Acorn TV. It's a show about metal detecting, relationships, and the English Countryside and it's one of our favorite things on air. Finally - we know nobody can break the laws of physics. But if we had to pick one person who might be able to, it'd be NFL running back Barry Sanders. Jesse tells you why.

Leonard and Jessie explore their careers in film and television, from Alia’s long-running role in Arrested Development to Miguel’s exceptional films like The Good Girl and Beatriz at Dinner in this free-flowing, candid conversation.
