Today's show is from The Glass House, when Illuminator, Lisa Whittle, shared how she has walked this road firsthand as a daughter of a pastor who had a very public fall from their church ministry position. In the dictionary of your life, what would be written beside the word “good?” Maybe health, fulfillment, beauty, wealth, comfort, or control? If God promises to withhold no good thing from those who walk faithfully with him, why doesn't life feel all that great for those of us who are doing it “right?” Everything we've been taught about goodness could use an update from the kingdom of God. Bold, hilarious Bible teacher Lisa Whittle joins Katherine to imagine how redefining what is good could revolutionize the way we engage our lives, our dreams, and our pain. If your old definitions of goodness aren't serving you too well anymore, this episode is for you. What We'll Cover: How popular definitions of goodness lead us to unrealistic expectations that warp our understanding of God's goodness. Summary: Winging it is the art of doing something with little to no practice or preparation. While winging it can seem fun, spontaneous, and may even make you feel good about yourself in the moment, it inevitably leads to stress, chaos, and pride around what YOU can do and not what the Holy Spirit is doing. On today's show, I sat down with Lisa Whittle and we talked about winging it versus working for it. Lisa and I dive into the sanctification and growth of trusting a process and doing due diligence in preparing for whatever God has called you to. Lisa is the best-selling author of 9 books and several Bible studies, including Jesus Over Everything and The Hard Good. She is a sought-after Bible teacher for her wit and bold, bottom-line approach. She is the founder of online communities Ministry Strong for ministry leaders and Called Creatives for writers and speakers, and host of the popular Jesus Over Everything podcast. She's a wife, mom, lover of laughter, good food, and The Bible, and a self-professed feisty work in progress. When we look at scripture we see the carefully thought-out plans and purposes of God all throughout creation. Through the way He asked Noah to build the ark, Abraham to trust his promise, and David to trust his calling, God shows us that to look more like him is to trust his process and complete the work that is necessary. Hello and Welcome to this episode JAM PACKED FULL of ALL SORTs of celebrating OOBT's 50th episode + 2nd ANNIVERSARY. Eek! Can you believe it!?! For that reason, we promise you are in for a TREAT today on OOBT… and that sure does seem fitting since we are celebrating not one but TWO big milestones am I right?! Anyway, this episode finds me not just talking to the wall by myself but instead sharing the mic with my Podcast Editor + Coach (and great friend), Tammy Munson of Wildfire Creative, for what we lovingly call the Tammy Takeover. LOL! She asks all the questions today and I do my best to give all the answers about things both serious and silly related to me and to OOBT such as – The story of OOBT's beginnings and just what that has to do with a pandemic. How Tammy and I met through Called Creatives. (Fun side note here: we have yet to meet in person, but I now consider her one of my closest + dearest friends + we can't wait to officially get together for queso and chips… hopefully soon right Tam?!) How OOBT launched two years ago because of Moses and continues to this day because of things learned from Moses. Why our stories and the stories we find on the pages of God's Word ALL MATTER. Some behind-the-scenes glimpses of the obstacles I continue to face and how I am pushing through them. (I so hope this part of the conversation encourages you as much as these reminders encouraged me personally… preaching to myself today I guess!) Annndddd then there's my real-time processing of Tammy's fun questions near the end… You certainly don't want to miss those! Oh my! LOL! PLUS be sure to listen for the details about the recent release of a FREE guide created with all of you in mind … My Must Have Study Resources PDF is now available for download through the link in today's show notes on mfahring.com! YAY! Truthfully though, I am so over the top thrilled to reach this 50th episode + 2-year milestone by the grace of God + alongside each one of you. ANNNDDD I am EVEN MORE excited to see where our studies continue to take us together in the future of OOBT! WOW. Just wow. In January 2020, I started Called Creatives with my friend and co-founder, Lisa Whittle, because we want to give other women what we did not have when we were starting out writing and speaking. We are celebrating today because Called Creatives is open for new members! This only happens twice a year, and I'm so excited for all of the women who will join us! If writing and speaking are dreams in your heart, you may be surprised to learn that they are crafts that anyone can learn. Lisa and I teach you what we've learned along the way. And we do it in a place where you can find community with women who get it. Called Creatives is that place! Lisa and I recently got together for a Called Creatives Getaway. While there, we took some time to talk about five things we see that hold women back. We dove into why these five things are so prevalent and what we can do about them. Join Lisa and I as we talk about: Why you don't actually need people to believe in your dreams, and what you really need instead How isolation feeds our self-doubt Why Lisa says there is no such thing as self-promotion One great gift that can be found in failure The impact of a growth mindset on your success Favorite quotes: “Self doubt will stop you before you ever get started. You should not wait for the day you are going to feel completely confident.” “You don't need people to believe in your dream. You need them to believe in you.” “It is key to get people around you to overcome that self-doubt.” “Writing and speaking is an art and a craft that can be learned. You are not born knowing how to do it.” “The wise person always says where can I grow. There is never a moment that there isn't something else to learn.” “It is never going to be the right time. It is never going to feel perfect. You are never going to feel confident but if you just keep going in the right direction you are going to get there.” “All you really have to do is get the small wins. When you add up enough of the small wins you will find that you actually made a lot of forward progress.” Coaching this week: Aligning Your Actions with Your Values (50:10) Links to great things we discussed: Lisa Whittle Website Lisa Whittle Instagram Called Creatives U2 at the Sphere Where the Streets Have No Name - U2 Order your copy of Remaining You While Raising Them here. Hey, I'm your host, Rachael Groll: missionary, author, pastor, and life coach. And I have been there. I, too, was doubting God's voice in my own life. I kept telling myself that I was wasting time trying to figure it out or waiting for Him to show me. Or that I wasn't qualified to do the things I thought He might be telling me to do. The answer for me was found in the pages of the Bible, as I learned how to understand what it was actually saying. I met author Alli Worthington over a decade ago when we were both in the mommy blogging world, and I've long looked up to her as an entreprenuer and innovator in the online space. And while I was a mommy blogger back then who didn't write much about motherhood, Alli was creating conferences, writing books, and raising FIVE boys and a stepdaughter. So of course with that kind of expertise, I am excited to share this conversation about motherhood that's aimed at the MOTHER. Alli's latest book Remaining You While Raising Them is the opposite of an instruction manual for parenting, which is what makes it so refreshing. In this episode, Alli and I talk about mom guilt, real self care, and the different ways social media and the likes can make us feel like we're not measuring up. We also talk about our identities as mothers, the magic question Alli wants women to get in the habit of asking themselves, and why it's important to allow our kids to see us get angry sometimes. The 5 tips I share to begin putting action behind your God-given dream are essential for the woman who wants to see that dream God has for her brought to fruition. You won't be able to move forward without them! QUOTES: Sometimes "we are in that cycle of planting the seeds and not being patient to see them through to the harvest. So we uproot them and transplant them somewhere else. The plant doesn't have a chance to put its roots down and grow." "There's nothing like being in the middle of God's plan." I'm sad to say that we're wrapping up our Collaboration Over Competition series, but we are finishing strong! My guests today are two of my dear friends, Lisa Whittle and Alli Worthington, founders of the organization Called Creatives. Called Creatives is a private coaching community with hands-on training for those who want to write and speak with influence and impact. With a growing membership base of more than 500, Called Creatives provides opportunities for mastermind groups, publishing support, private events, and so much more! In today's episode, we talk about how Alli and Lisa meld their gifts together, how they work to overcome any feelings of jealousy, and what it looks like for them to collaborate with one another. I asked Lisa and Alli how the idea for Called Creatives came to be, and let me just say, I wish I had a personality like Alli. Alli decided she wanted to do a membership site for creative women who wanted to write and speak because nothing like it existed for women in that area. With no fear or hesitation, Alli immediately got started but she didn't want to do it alone. Alli prayed about the idea, and less than five minutes later, the Lord spoke very clearly to her: “It's Lisa”. Lisa, on the other hand, was a bit more hesitant about collaborating with anyone because she said she really struggles to trust others. In fact, Lisa told Alli that she did not trust her when Alli first asked! Lisa says although she was afraid, she knew she just needed to take one step. Lisa reminds us that initial fear and not feeling “all in” in the early stages of something doesn't mean we shouldn't just start. See how it goes! Do it afraid. Together, Alli and Lisa are thriving as teammates. Within their community of 500 members, more than THIRTY books will be published by the end of this year! That's what intentionally choosing to collaborate can do! I hope you have enjoyed this series and that you have a new perspective on the decision to choose collaboration over competition, wherever in your life competition may start to creep in.Connect with JamieFacebook // Instagram // YouTubeGET ALL THE LINKS FROM THE SHOW HERE

REBROADCAST: This week on Real Talk with Rachael we talk with Alli Worthington about her new book “Standing Strong: A Woman's Guide to Overcoming Adversity and Living with Confidence“. Alli Worthington's goal is to help women live the life they were created to live. She lives outside Nashville with her husband, Mark, their five sons, and the only golden retriever who refuses to retrieve. She's a popular Christian women's speaker who travels the country sharing her humor, practical advice, and encouragement. She hosts her top-rated weekly podcast, The Alli Worthington Show, and brings us friends she loves, experts to learn from, and coaches listeners in life, business, and faith. We're talking about: Self-empowerment can be as crippling as self-doubt. You can't let everything rely on your ability to hustle, God is the one that helps you across the finish line. Make sure the people you're listening to are pointing the way to Jesus. God's vision for us is not passive, but strong and active. Disappointing others is not a sin, sometimes it's exactly what God needs you to do. Alli counts down from 5 when trying to get herself to do something unpleasant, learned from “The 5 Second Rule Book” by Mel Robbins. There's a process from the anointing to the appointing. If your thoughts are shaming or critical, it's not of God. Playing small is not being humble and can sometimes be an act of disobedience. To find out more about Called Creatives, visit their website. Hey, friends! I am absolutely thrilled to have my good friend Lisa Whittle back on the show today as part of our Smart Girl Summer series! We go behind the scenes in Lisa's story and share never-before-told stories of our friendship over the years along with our co-founding Called Creatives. I can't wait for you to hear this one! Listen in as Lisa talks candidly about a season she experienced with wanting to step away from what she knew deep in her marrow God had called her to do. It is often a challenge to push through the hard places in pursuing our God-given missions, and Lisa brings so much truth-telling to this topic for us. We also debunk the self-sabotaging mindset that if we don't have success in the beginning or in the first few years, even then, “it's just not meant to be.” We both agree what this means is that maybe it's merely the time to acknowledge you're in some pretty good company because we've all been there at some point or other in our callings and creative endeavors. Lisa Whittle is the author of eight books, a sought-after Bible teacher, founder of Ministry Strong and the popular Jesus over Everything podcast. Lisa is also the co-founder of Called Creatives and has been featured in numerous media outlets. Listen in to learn more about: How Lisa wanted to quit writing after book 3 or 4 and seriously contemplated going back to school to become an interior decorator, an attorney, or a chef! The ways we can over-spiritualize the hard places in our lives and self-sabotage ourselves. The importance of keeping company with other people who have things in common and who make us better. Favorite quotes: ~One of the biggest lies is that we are the only one that is facing rejection or lack of traction or whatever the case may be. And so, because we are very self focused and we only know our own experience I think the most powerful thing is when women find community with other women. ~Just because you have hit an impasse, just because you have come to a place where you are feeling uncomfortable or you are getting a rejection or things did not go smoothly that does not mean you need to quit, that is a sign that you are in a very normal situation of trying to move forward in a calling or a creative entrepreneurship role. ~There's something about keeping company with other people who not only do we have things in common with, but also make us better. ~ If you are a woman who is concerned about doing business with another woman do your due diligence but I wouldn't let your trust issues get in the way. I know you're going to love today's guest, Alli Worthington. Alli is a speaker, author of four books, business coach and podcaster. She is also my business coach and the co-creator of Called Creatives. In today's episode she shares how she built her business after her family lost everything and filed bankruptcy in 2008. She had $42 in startup money and Google. Because of that experience, Alli's mission is to create tools to help women grow a fierce faith, build their dreams and ultimately love their lives, just as she's been able to do. Alli believes if we, as women, hold ourselves back it's not going to help us expand the Kingdom. We need to step into everything God has for us. My interview with Alli is so inspiring that I know it will encourage you to build whatever dream or calling God has put on your heart. And if you don't know what that is yet, listen to Alli's journey and see how God took her step by step to where she is today.

Hello mom who just might feel frustrated and guilty for feeling that way… Today I'm talking to Jodi Kinasewitz about her story “Peace on Purpose” in our devotional book Unshakable Peace in an Unsteady World. Jodi is one of four co-authors, along with Jess Carey, Michelle Wilbert, and myself.Jodi lives in Mason, Ohio, with her husband of 20 years Matt, their four children, and their yellow lab, Max. She is a reading specialist and certified yoga instructor, passionate about leading Christian-inspired yoga classes, reading, and writing. She loves to travel with her family, and spends any time she can outdoors. Jodi has had several articles published with various Christian platforms including gritandvirtue.com, mommentor.org, makemeavailable.com, and she was published in Milk & Honey Women Devotional Journal, Volume 1. She started picking up more books and writing during the COVID shutdown. Find Jodi Kinasewitz on social media. Particularly during May, she is sharing posts that relate to mental health. Her desire is to end the stigma around mental health issues, raise the awareness, start talking about it. Like we pick up our phones. And we Jodi's hope is by sharing her story of struggle through a season of anxiety and depression her writing will shine a light on the importance of mental health while pointing others to Jesus. Find out more about Jodi on Instagram @jkinasewitz, Facebook – Jodi Kinasewitz, and read more of her writing on her blog Living to Learn (jkinasewitz.wixsite.com/website).- Encouragement for writers or those thinking about writing - Jodi shares that she came through a pretty significant storm in 2017 and is now on the other side of it. So that was the basis of a lot of her writing. She shared it with friends and in social media posts. People said, “This is really good. Thanks for sharing. You should write a book.” She waved it off, then decided she loved to write and had a passion for it. So she joined Called Creatives with Lisa Whittle and Alli Worthington. That's how we met. We were meeting regularly on zoom, talking, sharing life stories, and decided to do a devo on peace. She's really excited about the book and I join her in being grateful for all the support we've gotten. - Jodi shared her devotional Peace on Purpose – Underscoring Jodi's encouragement to be intentional about seeking God. The anchor verse is Jeremiah 29:13 – “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all of your heart.” When Jodi greeted her coworker cheerfully, though dripping wet from the pouring rain, the coworker asked, “How are you always so happy? Only you could come bouncing in here on a cold rainy Monday all smiles and chatty.” A little off guard, Jodi reflects, “What do I have working in my favor that my coworker or others I know don't have?” And she realizes, her morning routine benefits her in so many ways, along with exercise, plus giving herself enough time to ease into her day by not hitting the ground running. She has intentional quiet time with God. Prays, meditates, reads her Bible, and journals every single morning. She shares with her coworker the next morning, who mumbles, “Maybe I should give that a try.”Reflection Questions based on Jodi' story Peace on Purpose1. How will you take the time to be present with God?2. When and where in your day will you plan to pursue Him and His peace with purpose? 4. What kind of peace have you experienced in your life when you have actively sought out Jesus? 5. What are some fears you currently have that need to be displaced with His peace?

This week Karrie interviews author and speaker, Lisa Whittle, about her newest book/devotional, “The Hard Good,” and some of the stories in her life that shaped the tone and tenderness of each chapter. Lisa shares honestly that hard things are a part of life, but they don't have to have the final word. They can become the keys to our greatest usability in the kingdom of God—that is, if we let God make good of them, rather than running away and refusing the growth we truly crave. — Lisa Whittle is the best-selling author of 8 books and several Bible studies, including Jesus Over Everything and The Hard Good. Hey friends! On the show today, the brilliant Jackie Hill Perry joins me to talk all about her new book, Holier Than Thou (isn't that a great title?!), why she wrote the book, and how we can trust God because He is Holy, and not in a scary, rigid way we may have heard growing up in the Church. Jackie Hill Perry is a mom, writer, poet, and artist whose work has been featured in the Washington Times, The 700 Club, Desiring God, The Gospel Coalition, and other publications. Since becoming a Christian in 2008, she uses her speaking and teaching gifts to share the light of the gospel of God as authentically as she can. We also dive into a variety of topics such as the crisis of discipleship and holding others accountable, how we are wasting time not to trust God, and why believers should care about God's holiness. Listen in to learn more about: How idols are unholy and insufficient to be God for us. The fact that God is alive makes Him sufficient as a Savior for us. What believers get wrong about God's holiness How suffering and sin, in so many ways, have protected us against God. We need to remember that if God cannot sin, He cannot sin against you. Favorite quotes: 1. Discipleship is simply allowing someone in your life, or being in someone's life where you can not only observe how they live but also be taught how they live. 2. We need people in our lives to impart wisdom and we need people in our lives that we can impart wisdom to. 3. God's holiness is not just his moral purity but it's also his transcendence. The fact that he exists differently from us, that he is a creator not a creature. He is external, he is not finite. 4. Caring about God's holiness is caring about God himself. 5. It's always going to fail you if you don't know God. In this episode I answer this question: 1. How do you work from home and stay productive? (32:42) Great things we discussed: 1. Hey Friends! I'm so excited about today's episode and it is a special one! On the show today, I'm joined by my good friend, and Called Creatives Co-founder Lisa Whittle. This episode was quite vulnerable for me but I just loved our conversation! We take a deep dive into why we need to find the good during the hard seasons, how to allow God to work in us during setbacks for bigger and better comebacks, and how to navigate through some of those “good“ hard seasons like loss, grief, and jealousy. Can you imagine living life led by managed feelings versus out-of-control emotions? Lisa and I go over how that's possible and what the difference is. Listen in to hear us talk about : How to shift the narrative from “what if” to “what is,” so that God can bring us back in a different way How to know when God is speaking to us Allowing God to manage our feelings so they come back under our control. Hi friend! I've got fan favorite John Bevere on the show today. John is a best-selling author, international speaker, and follower of Christ, and I always walk away from our conversations feeling inspired and motivated in both my work and my relationship with God. In John's latest book X: Multiple You God-Given Potential, he helps us think differently about what we are called to do and consider why God called us to do it. And in today's conversation, he shares real-life experiences and practical applications with us so we can identify our unique gifts and make a greater impact in the world for God (and not just in the moments that we deem sacred). In this episode, we chat about: The concept of spiritual gifts and how they don't show up for everyone at the same time Shifting our mindset when we are called to do something that doesn't feel like a natural fit The way God engages with our frustrations and why he does so How to find our roles, both inside and outside of the church. Favorite quotes: 1. Every single human being whether you are a stay at home mom, your an ER nurse, or your a hairstylist, every single person has a call of God on their life to build the kingdom of God. 2. We don't shine by what we say, we shine by how we excel with our supernatural gifts on our life. 3. I think a big aspect of building the kingdom is completely missed because we limit it down to church on Sunday, the pastor on the platform. 4. We will never ever be truly satisfied until we take what is uniquely in us and we multiply it for the benefit of others. Great things we discussed: 1. John Bevere 2. X: Multiply Your God-Given Potential 3. The Blessing 4. Hacksaw Ridge 5. The Pursuit Of God 6. Instant Pot 7. WandaVision 8. Valentines Day Gift Guide 9. Called Creatives 10. The holiday season is upon us! And while it brings us moments of reconnection, Christmas magic, and a whole lot of festive cheer, it can sometimes reveal deep pockets of pain that we haven't fully addressed yet. If you know all too well what I'm talking about, today's episode is for you. I'm honored to share my conversation with author and speaker Lysa TerKeurst, but you may know her as the President of Proverbs 31 Ministries. She shares about her journey with forgiveness, specifically while dealing with a betrayal in her own home, and how she used it to find true healing. In Lysa's new book, Forgiving What You Can't Forget, she teaches us new ways to work through pain and move on with joy in our hearts. She brings a new level of honesty and vulnerability that helped me find a new perspective on this essential skill we all practice in our day-to-day lives. Things we covered in this shorter-than-usual episode: 1. The shocking blessing of bitterness 2. The best time for forgiveness (the answer will surprise you!) 3. The false narrative we tell ourselves when we experience a trigger After our conversation, stick around for our coaching time where I share listener-submitted questions about life, faith, and business! And while you're here, have you downloaded my FREE Christmas Gift Guide yet? My team and I spent weeks putting together this extensive guide to all things gifts, and I just know you'll find the perfect item for everyone on your list. Grab your copy at alliworthington.com/christmas One more thing, this is the last week to join Called Creatives at the introductory price of $19! After this week, the price jumps up to $29 (but if you join now, you'll lock in the intro rate forever and ever amen). Favorite quotes: 1. I always thought forgiveness was an unfair gift we have to give to the person who hurt us, and what I discovered is forgiveness is more about God giving the gift of healing to our hearts. 2. Forgiveness is both a decision and a process. 3. The blessing of bitterness is it actually shows us what a tender beautiful heart we have because bitterness doesn't often visit people with cold hearted hearts. Bitterness often comes to people who have loved deep so they got hurt really deep. 4. Forgiveness is supposed to be that step toward healing that we take early on, so that our heart can embrace, not just the reality of the situation, but the potential beauty of the life lessons we can learn along the way. 5. Boundaries aren't meant to shove another person away, but they are meant to help hold me together, so I can fully forgive someone. In this episode I answer these questions: 1. What do I need to do to take care of my skin as I near my 40s? (30:17) 2. What should I do if I don't agree with all my church's teachings? (36:30) 3. How do I know what to invest in my business? (40:36) Great things we discussed: 1. Lysa Turkerust 2. Forgiving What You Can't Forget 3. The Forgiveness Journal 4. Epionce 5. Bye Bye Foundation 6. Bare Minerals 7. The Crown 8. Take Courage 9. It's another takeover! And today, I'm with my friend, fellow writer/speaker, and Called Creatives Co-founder Lisa Whittle. We are tackling why most women say they don't feel strong, what it means to weed through all the competing voices in your life, and how to move forward when you want to hold back. We also talk about the huge, devastating decision that I had to make last fall- and whether or not I regret it. Lisa is such a truth-teller and we bring the heat in this conversation. If you feel like you're ready to Stand Strong, but don't know how to get out of your own way- this one's for you. We chat about: 1. How self-doubt hinders us from moving forward 2. The mind shift of partnering with God 3. The different type of people we need in our lives Favorite quotes: 1. When we begin to take God seriously, we will take ourselves seriously.2. We need to think about God partnering with us in our daily activities. If he's not going to fail us and he's not going to abandon us let's shift that and say he's going to strengthen us. He's going to give us everything we need. We don't have to feel strong, we don't have to feel confident, we don't have to feel like we know what we're doing everyday. but if we lean into him and let him give us that little boost to get going, and wisdom to know what to do, we will have the strength to put one foot in front of the other. 3. The only way we're going to get strong is to make sure that we get out of our own way. Because yes, adversity holds us back, but I think so many times self-doubt holds women back and we just don't start moving forward and do what God wants us to do.4. We have this idea that yes, God will partner with pastors, or God will partner with people working in a non-profit on the other side of the world feeding hungry children but God works with all of us, and all of our work matters. 5. When we think about whatever we're doing in our life, however, we're living, whatever the work is that God put in hand at that moment that day it is a partnership with him because everything we do that makes this world a better place that helps people is fulfilling his purpose for them. Great things we discussed: 1. Called Creatives 2. Called Creatives Book Deal Training 3. Tenet 4. American Dirt 5. Standing Strong Hope you loved this episode! “You are enough” is a well-intentioned, encouraging message preached to overwhelmed, burnt-out women. Bestselling author Alli Worthington used to be one of them, but when faced with adversity, found herself searching for more. Being enough was no longer enough. In her new book Standing Strong: A Woman's Guide to Overcoming Adversity and Living with Confidence, Alli encourages women to draw strength from their God-given identities, to overcome the obstacles that keep them from reaching their full potential and living out their dreams, and to walk confidently in the direction of their calling. With God, they are more than enough. Alli Worthington is known for her straight-talking encouragement and practical tools that help women reach their dreams in business and life. We can try so hard to simplify our lives, but it never seems to last. Why do we make things so complicated? Today, I'm with one of my best friends and co-founder of Called Creatives, Lisa Whittle! We are celebrating the release of her new book Jesus Over Everything and how this really is so much more than just a book. It's so much bigger than cleaning out a closet or streamlining your schedule. Lisa shares how letting go of our coping mechanisms and surrendering to the seemingly upside-down way of Jesus can bring us the peace we long for--and free us up in a big way. She shares what putting Jesus Over Everything looks like practically and what she learned personally from tackling this bold message. We also chat about: -The deadly "overs" and how they are stealing our abundant life. -Why Lisa is known for giving away outerwear. -The tale of two coats--one awesome, one not so much. Favorite quotes: 1. When we obey, whatever it looks like, whatever weirdness it is, or sounds like to us, something changes inside of us. 2. Jesus over everything is the beauty of Colossians one and Ephesians one. That he is covering us, but he has us. Also if we want our lives to be less complicated, the way that it works is the way that it was set up to work in the beginning of time. 3. Scripture is for our benefit and I think that's what we forget sometimes. We think it's a list of to do‘s. It is for us and so there's a reason why steadiness is the way to go over hype because it is the way our life stays much more simple and certainly more calm. In this episode I answer these questions: 1. How do you know the difference between fear and God telling you no and not yet? (48:16) 2. I'm in the first stages of building my platform, what do I need to focus on most? (54:18) 3. Do you have a mentor and how do you recommend finding one? (1:00:05) Links to great things we discussed: 1. Lisa Whittle 2. Jesus Over Everything 3. Everything but the Bagel season 4. Neutrogena Hydro Boost 5. Lindsay Letters Calendar 6. Called Creatives 7. Do you feel called to write or speak? Over the past decade, I have received questions from hundreds of women who feel called but haven't known where to start. This week, I have a special episode for you that lays it all out! I'm with my good friend Lisa Whittle to share our personal stories of how we built writing and speaking careers. We'll share common misconceptions, practical advice for getting started, and how to take the next step. We are also announcing something extremely exciting for those wanting to step confidently into this space. If that's you, don't miss this episode! In this episode we discuss: 1. How do I start speaking if I've never been invited? 2. What if I don't have any connections? 3. What do I do if I'm struggling with writer's block? Favorite quotes: God is doing big things in the hearts of women and we change the world when we share our stories. You may not feel creative, but God has called you to create! We are launching a coaching community for women who are called to share their messages of freedom with a lost and broken world. We want to remove the intimidation, confusion and frustration of navigating your calling to write and speak by guiding you in developing your gifting, building your message and expanding your reach. On what holds women back- We think it's a lack of information or skills, but what really holds us back is our self-doubt and our imposter syndrome. We get overwhelmed because we don't know where to start. We want to help you start! On progressing to our goals- If God has called you and you stay obedient to learning what you need to learn and take small steps every day, He will take you exactly where you are supposed to go. You can't let your present circumstances or your past define where you go in the future. On deciphering his will and our will- When you walk with God, His dreams for you and your dreams and desires for yourself tend to morph. You will know much more clearly what you're supposed to be doing with your life if you stay in tune with Him. In this episode we answer your questions: 1. How do you get started when you are unconnected and feel unqualified? (26:52) 2. How do you know the difference between the dream of writing and speaking being God's dream for you or a dream you need to let go of? (31:33) 3. Is there anything I can do to position myself as a speaker before I've actually been called up to the mic? (35:55) 4. Do I have to be published to be a credible speaker? (43:39) 5. I have an idea of what I want to write about and I've begun keeping notes. But when I open up my computer to start writing I freeze up staring at a blank screen. How can I take my ideas and thoughts and create something cohesive. (47:31) As a listener, you have access to Called Creatives today!
