How I Got My Life Together

Let's talk about how I got my life together! This may sound like a crazy thing to talk about because I have been sharing about strategies to get your life back together in the books I have written for the last ten years, all six years of this podcast, and throughout my career of coaching. But it's true!  I want to tell you a story about a time when I was the most burnt out, fried to a crisp and didn't know what to do next. I talk about this in my book Remaining You While Raising Them.  In January 2021, My husband and two of my boys were not doing well. One day while praying, I asked God what to do, and in that moment, He spoke so clearly to my spirit and I knew He was saying it was time to get help.  In this episode I share how I got my excitement for life back, how I dealt with and processed my emotions, and healed from burnout. Some of the great things you'll learn in this episode - The timing for getting the help we need. Having a business coach grows your business. Pride and fear keep us from getting the help we need. Looking back and celebrating your progress. I would love to hear from you! DM me on Instagram and tell me how you started taking action. I want to know the progress you're making so I can cheer you on.  Instagram: instagram.com/alliworthington   Favorite Quotes:  02:58 - “I had forgotten the one truth that you will always go further faster in your business with a business coach no matter how good you are on your own. Everybody needs an accountability and a strategy partner.” 03:53 - “The perfect time never comes.  If we wait until we feel it's the right time to get the help we need, we will never do anything. We'll be sitting around waiting until we feel right forever.” 08:32 - “So, if you've been thinking about getting a coach but you worry about the expense, I want to tell you that you will make so much more money with a coach than without a coach. It is the best business expense you will ever have.” 09:31 - “The truth is we need to identify what our best use of time is.” 11:46 - “Pride and fear keep us from obeying the call that God has for us to get some help.” 12:44 - “Remember, an investment in you  benefits everyone around you.” Recommendations Sharing one beauty item - IT Cosmetics Foundation in SPF 50, is really quite amazing. Get it with sunscreen because sunscreen is everything. Put it on with a beauty blender and it's going to look lovely. Bye Bye foundation is where it's at for a little extra coverage.  And sharing one food/health item that I love - Allegro green tea. It's decaf so it won't pull all the hydration out of your body. It's a powerhouse! It's full of antioxidants, it's anti-inflammatory, it increases blood flow, boosts brain function, and so many other good things. It tastes really good and I love it. I love doing these smart girl summer episodes. I learned quite a bit and I'm sure you will too.  Beth McCord is an accomplished Enneagram speaker, author, coach, and teacher with over two decades of dedicated experience. Join Beth and I as we talk about: What is working for businesses in 2024 Evaluating what is working and making changes How to maximize our time Choosing new projects What Beth is working on now Best practice for creating online courses Favorite quotes:  “There is a lot of being curious, figuring things out, and being flexible. Being flexible is one of the biggest things.”  (9:06 audio) “What can we do with the time we have and maximize it? That is the key here.”  (12:57  audio) “God created her to be her personality for her kids and their personalities. He didn't make a mistake, so how can we celebrate that, and how can we own our weaknesses but not in a shameful, guilty, judging way? How can we see those and grow from them?”  (24:45 audio) “With courses, how can you say the same content and message as quickly, efficiently, practical, and applicable as possible? I would aim for bite-sized lessons.”  ( (26:54 audio) Coaching this week: (29:47 audio) Escaping the Mediocrity Trap: A Guide to Getting Unstuck In this week's coaching, I share tips for recognizing mediocrity situations and practical steps to escape the mediocrity trip. The mediocrity trap is one of the trickiest ruts to escape. Unlike terrible situations that, once you are out, often turn into funny stories or proud memories, mediocre situations drag on and become what I call the "Lost Years."  The biggest obstacle to getting unstuck is often our own mindset. Don't settle for a life that's just okay. Recommendations: (41:00 audio) This week's  recommendation is Spotifiy's free audio books. It means I've got to be curious about it rather than give up and walk away.” 14:48 (Audio) - “Transition isn't just an aberration and an evil thing. It can be hard for sure, but transition is an opportunity to be creative. This is an opportunity to become more self-aware and aware of what God is saying to me.” 15:16 (Audio) - “Experiments are successful because of what they reveal, not just on account of whether they work or not.” 17:46 (Audio) - “Arriving at the end of the transition isn't the point, it's how you transition that matters.” 24:59 (Audio) - “I think we forget what it is to learn. I want you to keep in mind that the relationship that you have with yourself is the most crucial one because that voice isn't going anywhere. If you wouldn't take that kind of talk from a friend, you don't want to take it from yourself. I'll also want you to flip it around. Would you ever talk to a friend that way? This episode shares a great conversation with one of my favorite writers in the whole world, Sarah Bessey. Today, we are diving into an important topic that I don't think gets covered enough: what do you do when you feel like you're in the wilderness of your faith. If you're struggling with doubts about your faith, or supporting someone who is, you're not alone. Sarah's wisdom, empathy, and thoughtfulness are going to be a blessing to you like it has been to me. She also leads Evolving Faith, a conference and online community for people who are reimagining their faith with hope. In her new book, Field Notes for the Wilderness: Practices for an Evolving Faith, Sarah becomes a shepherd for our curiosity, giving us a table for our questions, tools to cultivate what we crave, and a blessing for what was, even as we leave it behind. Join Sarah and I as we talk about: Examining our faith What it means to be in a season of reimagining our faith When you are going through a season in the wilderness Healing through hard hurtful situations Learning what you are for and how to love the world Favorite quotes:  “You can't wander away from God's love. You can get a few things wrong and still enjoy the goodness and friendship of God. This is not a thing that is jeopardy.” (18:15)  “In the midst of all of that, you can't outwander God and you can't run away from the run of God. That is still the thing that is holding everything including the wilderness inside you.” (20:56) “It is not enough to just be against things. I need to begin to name what I am for.” (21:52) “One of the other ones that was really important for me was learning how to love the world again.” (23:04) “God is hiding in plain sight in our everyday walking around lives.” (24:00) Coaching this week:   Cultivate Self-Awareness This week in coaching, I discussed how Self-awareness means paying attention to our feelings and reactions, especially in stressful situations. You are in the right place today if you are tired. I mean... Who isn't tired, right? I'm so excited to talk about ways to beat exhaustion in today's hectic world. Jess challenges the idea that we need permission to rest and stresses the importance of protecting our peace for lasting well-being. Our conversation will dive into the myths that keep us from resting and provide practical steps for change.  I'm eager to learn how to manage exhaustion and create sustainable rest through small, daily shifts. Join Jess and I as we talk about: What can we do about our exhaustion and tiredness Lies we have been taught that keep us from resting We don't need permission to rest Protecting our peace Small daily shifts for sustainable rest Favorite quotes:  (8:55 Audio)  - “I don't know many women in varying life stages who aren't tired. If they have small kids, they are tired; if they are empty nesters, they are tired; if they are in a season of building their career, they are tired. The college girls I know are tired. There is a collective issue.” (10:48 Audio) - “We believe all kinds of broken things about our fatigue and so our beliefs really have to change first. (14:29 Audio) - “Rest is also a commandment. In the actual commandments, He has given us this commandment to rest our bodies not because He wants it from us, not because He wants us to perform, but because He loves us and wants it for us.” (20:40 Audio)—“We always gravitate towards the big sweeping changes, but I would massively encourage people to start with the small stuff; it gives you the bravery for the big stuff.” Coaching this week:  What is Self-Awareness & Why You Should Care About It (34:57 audio) In coaching today, we talk about how goal setting often neglects the essential first step of self-awareness. This episode is a must-share!  I'm joined by expert Brad Wilcox, director of the National Marriage Project, to talk about the research on families and marriage. His new book, Get Married: Why Americans Must Defy the Elites, Forge Strong Families, and Save Civilization, explains how the current erosion of strong families is at the root of many of our society's problems, and it traces this decline back to anti-family influences in entertainment, politics, media, education, and big business. If it's not on your job description, you aren't required to do it. Or if it's more than your job description, it's an opportunity for you to see if you want to do it or not. Then the boundaries, really, and the power lies within you because I always say, ‘You would much rather be a woman who's respected than a woman who's liked.'”   (17:54)  “...We often self-sabotage because we are so afraid of failing at things, things being hard, not getting it right, and making mistakes that we just take ourselves out of the game.”   Coaching this week:  (37:02) In our Coaching this week, we talk about delegation.  Delegation helps us stay focused on the work that only we can do - our zone of genius.  Most people are terrible at delegating.  Listen as I share three non-obvious tips for mastering delegation.      ( 38:29)  1 - Embrace the art of ‘good enough'. Often though we feel frustrated as if we are doing something wrong but really the key is that we need to discover the unique way God speaks to us.  Havilah Cunnington is a Bible teacher, author, small business owner, and itinerant speaker obsessed with helping people live the abundant life God has called them to live.  Havilah's new book, Created to Hear God: 4 Unique and Proven Ways to Confidently Discern His Voice teaches that God speaks to each of us differently and the key to understanding the unique way He speaks to us is through our prophetic personality. Join Havilah and I as we talk about:  When Havilah and Alli first met How we know if we are hearing from God or just ourselves 3 core values for hearing from God The 4 prophetic personalities and understanding your prophetic personality   Favorite quotes: “There's a recording of what you said to me that night…[I thought] my sweet little Southern Baptist heart doesn't understand this, but there is a more charismatic part of the church that gets it and feels comfortable hearing from God.  And it was later after that you told me, ‘We hear from God in different ways'.  And you went through all of that and it changed my life forever.” - Alli Worthington (Youtube 5:27) (Audio - 4:41)   “What I've learned about God is that he really doesn't care what our title is or what we theologically know. He knows us - our personhood.  He knows our hopes, our dreams. He knows our future. He knows what happened in the past. Hey hey! Healthy good friendships are so important in a mother's life and their children's lives.  Today's show is a special one, featuring the friendship chapter from my newest book, Remaining You While Raising Them: The Secret Art of Confident Motherhood. The research kept showing that the right friendships were important in a mother's life. Studies even showed that children in their developing years had better levels of child development if their moms had a good two or three friends for support systems and great socialization. So this is not something we have the luxury to ignore.  I wrote Remaining You While Raising Them to help women find freedom from the heavy weight of modern motherhood. I can't give you a step-by-step plan to raise perfect children (an impossible dream!), but I can help you thrive as a happier, healthier mom, and friendship is a big part of that.  Listen in on these audio chapters to hear:  Green and red flags to watch for in friendships The power of friendship in our lives How to use social media to actually make us feel better 3 habits for healthy friendships Favorite quotes: “Those little dreams that God plants in our hearts that seem impossible over time when we keep taking little steps with that power of 1%, we can reach our dreams.” “Friendships make us happier than any other kind of relationship.”  “Mom friendships benefit our kids. He has to make himself apparent so that we can find him if we seek him but also he has to remain hidden to some degree otherwise he overwhelms us and it takes away our free choice.” “We need to be ready to give an answer to anyone that asks about the hope we have.” “Our children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren are going to be challenged on their faith in a way that other generations have not been and so we need to prepare ourselves so we can help prepare them to be able to know not just what we believe but why we believe it.” Coaching this week:  Secret for Not Having to Rely on Self Discipline  (27:13) Links to great things we discussed:  Lee Strobel Website Lee Strobel Instagram Lee Strobel Twitter Strobel Center Is God Real?: Exploring the Ultimate Question of Life Gloria - The Shadows of Knight A Case for Christ Sacred Rest: Recover Your Life, Renew Your Energy, Restore Your Sanity Only Murders in the Building I Thank God - JWLKRS Worship feat. How can I know if my boundaries are healthy? Is it okay to have boundaries in the first place? I know I need boundaries, but where and how do I start?  Do these questions sound familiar?  As women, we have so many questions about boundaries- what they are, how we put them in place, and if it is selfish to have them- and this episode is here to help!  Today's show features some of the best advice I've ever received from experts on boundaries. I wanted to share it all with you, all in one place.  Boundaries are there to help you (and the people you love!) thrive, and by the end of this show, you'll see how they do just that! They are God's idea. He established the foundations of the world using boundaries. ” “Where there is chaos there is usually a lack of boundaries and a need for more intentional boundaries or healthy boundaries to be put in place.” “A boundary without a consequence is nothing but a bad suggestion.”  “If you don't have boundaries in your life, someone will have them for you.” “We want to be women who are approachable. It doesn't mean we have to be women who are always accessible.” “I walk away from toxic people not to go binge Netflix. I walk away to invest with reliable people. It is not all heart to hearts and margaritas.” “When we expect to disappoint people and we expect them to disappoint us there is a lot more grace in the world to mess up and work it out.” “Everything about friendship is awkward. There is no getting around it. He is a pastor and speaker who says he “writes books for people who don't read books.” Max is a father of three, grandfather of two, and he lives with his wife in San Antonio.  In his newest book, God Never Gives Up on You: What Jacob's Story Teaches Us About Grace, Mercy, and God's Relentless Love, Max examines the life of Jacob in Scripture, how God loved and pursued Jacob, and what that means for us.  Join Max and I for a great conversation as we talk about:  Where he gets his  book ideas Why there aren't as many books about Jacob as there are about biblical heroes like Daniel and David How to discern when our understanding of God has become too small Why Max connects with and treasures the story of Jacob God's faithfulness to his people, no matter what You'll also love hearing my chat with Max about how to have hope in a divided world. It is every person's story.” “Jacob's relationship is a transactional relationship with God. You do this. I'll do that. That really strikes home with many of us.” “All of us go through some negotiation or transactional relationship with God.” “It is okay to wrestle with these things. How did we get here, and how can we change that?  My friend Jon Acuff and I had a great conversation all about our potential: what “potential” refers to, how we can reach it, and some pitfalls to avoid along the way. If you want to close the gap between your dreams and your reality without causing yourself to burn out in the process, this conversation is for you!!  Jon is one of INC's Top 100 Leadership Speakers and the New York Times bestselling author of nine books, including his most recent, All It Takes Is a Goal: The 3-Step Plan to Ditch Regret and Tap Into Your Massive Potential. He's a husband and dad to two teenage girls, living outside Nashville.  Lean in and listen as Jon and I discuss:  How to get around the massive barrier between you and what you want to do? (Jon calls this barrier “the vision wall”) The difference between a high performer and a high achiever A fun tool that creates gratitude, teaches the superpower of self-awareness and will help you be present The only reason people leave their comfort zones The connection between personal responsibility and potential Jon's last visit to the show was equally amazing, especially for parents of teens. The things we believed as teenagers can be so impactful. It is so encouraging to think about how the teens in our lives can learn to create new thoughts that lead to actions and even better results. Be sure to listen in to find out how! Favorite quotes: “You should dream but when your dream is divorced from reality it doesn't end in a healthy marriage.” “Excellence is boring.” “Potential is the gap between your vision and your reality.”  “You're the CEO of your actions, not the CEO of your outcomes. Focus on those actions.” “The Best Moments list starts to teach you about what you want in the future. This conversation is too important not to!  Sissy is the author of multiple books and co-host of The Raising Boys and Girls podcast. She is a counselor who works with kids and their families in Nashville.  Join Sissy and I as we talk about:  Why this was the right book for Sissy to write, both as an author and as a therapist Best practices you can use if you find yourself struggling with anxiety, especially as a mom Five ways parents tend to respond to anxiety in our kids One common denominator Sissy sees in people of all ages who deal with anxiety How being hard on ourselves impacts our kids  Sissy's advice for parents of perfectionists And after living through a pandemic, we are all uncertain, anxious and even a little bit cranky about things going back to normal. As adults, we have a lifetime of practice building coping strategies that work for our individual personalities and lifestyles. But what about our kids?  Don't miss our previous conversation about the state of our kids in a post-pandemic world and how we can better support them. Favorite quotes: “Anxious parents raise anxious children.” “Anxiety spreads by the way we respond.” “Be present in the moment rather than focused on the only time you have left.” “Right now even more concerning is that parents feel like failures more than ever before.” “The way we  talk to ourselves is going to spill over onto others.” “You need to fail in front of your kids and laugh at yourself when you do it.” Coaching this week:  The Stages of Delegation  (37:09) Links to great things we discussed:  Sissy Goff Website Sissy Goff Instagram The Worry-Free Parent: Living in Confidence So Your Kids Can Too Goodness of God - Cece Winans Tom Lake The Bear K. I wasn't prepared for how motherhood would change my life, and I certainly wasn't prepared for how it would change me.” “Motherhood is harder, messier, crazier, and more amazing than anything we could have imagined.” “Modern motherhood may be broken, but we don't have to let it break us anymore.” “Being the best mother you can be starts with learning to mother yourself.” “The greatest gift I can give my kids is to be an emotionally healthy mom and to model the way for them.” “A mother's emotional health (her spiritual, mental, and relational health) is the most important legacy she can give her children.” “Motherhood isn't about what you do, it's about who you are.” Order your copy of Remaining You While Raising Them here. Tomorrow is the big day! My newest book, Remaining You While Raising Them, releases into the world, and I can't wait for it to be in your hands!  To celebrate, my friend Phoebe Barron is here to turn the tables and interview me! Phoebe is the mental health consultant on Remaining You While Raising Them. She is a licensed counselor and counseling professor. She speaks to churches about emotional health and lives in Oklahoma with her husband, three kids, and fluffy golden doodle.  I'm thrilled for you to hear some of her perspectives firsthand (you know, I couldn't resist sneaking in a few questions of my own!).  Join Phoebe and I as we discuss:  The single biggest driver of mom guilt (secret: it's not your mom or your MIL) Why having a mother who models caring for herself and her needs is so important to our daughters (and our sons!) One magic question that keeps “taking care of mom” from becoming just another thing on your to-do list How trusting your gut and doing what's best for your family are backed by research  My ultimate goal for writing THIS book Favorite quotes: “When I asked about mom guilt almost all women said they had mom guilt but the single biggest driver was social media.” “The most important thing we can do to be good moms is to make sure that we are as emotionally healthy as possible.” “Taking care of ourselves emotionally is the most selfless thing we can do for our families.” “Getting in the habit of saying what do I need right now is the ultimate self-care.” “There are a few ways of really screwing parenting up. There are a ton of ways of getting it good enough and there are no ways of getting it perfect.” “Our job is to model health to our children, discipline our children, and give them discipline but most of all to love our children. If we do those things our kids are going to be just fine.”  Links to great things we discussed:  Remaining You While Raising Them Oppenheimer I've Witnessed It- Passion and Melodie Malone The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution Order your copy of Remaining You While Raising Them here. I met author Alli Worthington over a decade ago when we were both in the mommy blogging world, and I've long looked up to her as an entreprenuer and innovator in the online space. And while I was a mommy blogger back then who didn't write much about motherhood, Alli was creating conferences, writing books, and raising FIVE boys and a stepdaughter.  So of course with that kind of expertise, I am excited to share this conversation about motherhood that's aimed at the MOTHER. Alli's latest book Remaining You While Raising Them is the opposite of an instruction manual for parenting, which is what makes it so refreshing.  In this episode, Alli and I talk about mom guilt, real self care, and the different ways social media and the likes can make us feel like we're not measuring up. We also talk about our identities as mothers, the magic question Alli wants women to get in the habit of asking themselves, and why it's important to allow our kids to see us get angry sometimes. Do you feel like other moms have it all together, while you struggle silently? Are you really enjoying the journey of parenthood… or are you just trying to survive? You are not alone! You want so much to be a "good" mom. Yet, you're afraid you aren't. There's hope. You are on the right track. Alli Worthington joins Stephanie today to address the mom who is ready to live a life outside the unachievable cliche of “Supermom” – regardless of the season of life you are in. This is NOT a conversation about parenting – this is a conversation about your personal wellbeing as you navigate motherhood. It is about your own wellness, so that you can love others well. It is about embracing a healthy mom mindset. So, whether you are considering starting a family, or whether your adult children are now raising their own babies, this conversation is for you! Also, this conversation will be eye-opening to all the men who want to understand how the moms in their lives struggle to hold it all together. Do you have a sister, daughter, or wife who is a mom too? This is for you! If you've forgotten what it means to care for yourself while caring for others, this conversation is for you. If you want to feel energized by motherhood, this conversation is for you. If you constantly feel weighed down by mom guilt, this conversation is for you. If you can't stop comparing yourself to other moms, this conversation is for you. If you're looking for ways to protect your emotional, spiritual, and physical health, this conversation is for you. If you can't break the cycle of pleasing others, this conversation is for you. If you crave more meaningful relationships with your children, this conversation is for you. Alli tells us, “Drop the “good mom” myths that have been stealing your happiness. Rediscover the beautiful, joy-filled, sacred and secret art of confident motherhood.” If you're ready to rewrite the parts of motherhood that are stressful and exhausting so you can raise your little–or not-so-little–humans with a healthy mom mindset, it's time to discover the secret art of confident motherhood. MORE ABOUT “REMAINING YOU WHILE RAISING THEM” You're allowed to enjoy motherhood- and pursue it in your own unique way. Remaining You While Raising Them will give you tools and a framework you can return to over and over as you pursue a life you love while raising children you love. Alli says, “I know you want to be a wonderful mother. And you're worried you aren't. Whether you arrived at motherhood by birth, adoption, or marriage, you want to get it right. Me too. I spent too many years caught in the trap of lies that surround modern motherhood. I want more for you than that. You're worth it! This book will reassure you that you ARE worth it and give you the tools to enjoy motherhood more! Did you know only around 15% of people experience true self-awareness? Even more surprising, in the same study, researchers found that the more self-aware someone thinks they are, the opposite is likely to be true! When Scott Allender shared this info with me in a recent conversation, I was floored! I just had to hear more about how self-awareness relates to our emotional health and how both of those pieces relate to success.  In his new book, The Enneagram of Emotional Intelligence: A Journey to Personal and Professional Success, Scott uses one of my favorite tools, the Enneagram, to help you move towards emotional health in a way that makes sense for your personality and sets you up for success. Listen in as Scott and I talk about:  Why your emotional intelligence (EQ) is more important than your IQ when it comes to success How the tools provided in the enneagram help us get back to who we are made to be What it looks like for each Enneagram type to be functioning at a high level of self-awareness (and what it looks like when we're not self-aware!) The role our spiritual life plays in our emotional intelligence Scott Allender is the co-host of The Evolving Leader podcast and author of The Enneagram of Emotional Intelligence: A Journey to Personal and Professional Success.  Scott is an expert in global leadership who regularly teaches enneagram workshops and lives in Nashville.  Favorite quotes: “Only 13-15% of people are truly self aware and the more self aware somebody thinks they are the opposite is likely to be true.” “Your IQ might get you in the door. Your EQ is going to determine whether or not you stay inside the room or get invited back. Our EQ is our IQ at its testing point” “Until we do the work of cultivating this level of awareness we are often operating on autopilot.” “The studies say that more than 70% of our success is directly attributed to emotional intelligence.” “What is common to all types is really getting connected to the body, heart, and head.” Teaching Series from Remaining You While Raising Them: Habits The Tipping Point  (23:47) Links to great things we discussed:  Scott Allender Website The Enneagram of Emotional Intelligence: A Journey to Personal and Professional Success Scott Allender Instagram Scott Allender Twitter Scott Allender LinkedIn The Evolving Leader Podcast Taylor Swift Chris Stapleton Yellowstone Rocky Creed III Move: How the New Science of Body Movement Can Set Your Mind Free Whiplash God Really Loves Us Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer Order your copy of Remaining You While Raising Them here. Join us as we talk about:  Four boundary lines that will help you identify the core of the assignments God has for you in this season How to use those boundary lines as a decision-making tool Ways to process rejection in a way that invites God into it The impact of social media on mom guilt and shame, and why we need an inner circle How to listen to God as an important first step in everything you do (and Heather's example of what that process looks like for her!)  Each time Heather visits the show she brings truth and wisdom. You can listen to her last visit where where she shares about the dangers of comparison. Her relatable stories remind moms they are never alone in the pursuit of becoming the best mom they can be.  Heather MacFadyen is the host of the Don't Mom Alone podcast, a speaker, and the author of two books, including her latest, Right Where You Belong: How to Identify and Fully Occupy Your God-Given Space.  Heather lives with her husband and their four sons in Dallas, TX. Favorite quotes: “You don't have to hustle. You can trust that God is outside your space hustling on your behalf.” “Nothing new is under the sun. It is just are we doing it. Are we inviting God into our decisions and are we looking for his invitations for what he is doing?” “God speaks through the Holy Spirit in us and through His word and we can know if it is him if it resonates with the truth of who he has always been and what is written.” “Your current living is what dictates your future moments so how are you spending that time.” “When we experience God it ignites the Spirit in us and we can hear those promptings and invitations.”  “If you have never sat and listened to God's voice, what he thinks about you, and what he is inviting you into, that would be a great first step.” Coaching this week:  Believing the best about our partners. Hey friend! We all want to live without fear of the future, for ourselves and for our children. But, in today's world, it's easy to look around and wonder if it's even possible. There's just so many things outside of our control and how do we cope with them, much less live without fear.  Today, my friend Lisa Whittle joins me on the show to talk about just that. We walk through those challenging questions we've all had about fear, pain and the future and what it means to trust God rather than give into fear.  Lisa knows what she's talking about, too! She is a best-selling author and has written a new book called God Knows, all about how those two little words can change our lives if we will let them. Join us as we talk about:  How to lean into the comfort that God knows all and is in control, even (and maybe especially) in seasons of pain Why believing God knows can bring peace to motherhood The three reasons people stop dreaming (plus, how dreaming is a form of self-care!) An analogy that will change how you see boundaries and letting people into your inner circle   Once you hear this conversation, you'll want to check out Lisa's last visit to the show where we shared practical tips as you consider ways to move forward in strength. These conversations about dreams and goals will change your life. Lisa Whittle is a Bible teacher, speaker, and host of the Jesus Over Everything podcast. She is the author of nine books, including her latest, God Knows: When Your Worries and Whys Need More Than Temporary Relief. Lisa and her husband, Scott, have three children and live in Charlotte, NC. Favorite quotes: “It is hard to rest and rely on God for your pain relief but what choice do you have?” “When we actually get to know who God is and understand the vastness of what it means God knows. It shifts something within us.” “Dreaming is self-care.” “If you are a believer in Jesus Christ you definitely want to root your own life in him so as you root yourself in him your dreams come in alignment.” “When we become committed to our boundaries we only have to verbalize them 10% of the time.” “Choose your life travelers wisely.” Coaching this week:  Piling on the positives to transform your relationships. Hey hey! Friendship is something we all want and need. While it seems simple on the surface, it can feel so complicated. How do we make friends as adults? If I don't have deep heart-to-hearts with someone in my life, are we still friends? What about neighbors, co-workers, and people I see casually or in passing each week? Do they count as great friends? I invited one of my friends to help me sort all that out! Laura Tremaine is a podcaster, speaker, and author of two books. Her newest book, The Life Council: 10 Friends Every Woman Needs, is a great resource to help us reframe how we think about friendship.  Listen in on this conversation as Laura and I talk about:  Giving ourselves permission to not go deep with every friend Why we should be lavish with encouragement, including our likes on social media The importance of having different kinds of friends and the roles each can play in your life Holding space for friendship break-ups and how to move past them Y'all, I'm so happy to have Laura back on the show today. You can check out her previous show here.
