As we're gearing up for the new year, it's a great time to think about the year we want and how we want to feel. A big part of that? Looking at how we're spending our time. It's key for setting up a year that really feels good. Make sure to stick around to the end to hear some practical tips and advice on setting boundaries on our time and live with more intentionality as we head into 2024. Listen in on these audio chapters to hear:  How using a time diary changed my life and can change your life What is “ tyranny of the urgent” and how even Jesus set boundaries Choosing discomfort over resentment Practical tips on setting boundaries  What to take out and what to add in when it comes to time management. Favorite quotes: “The truth is when you are successful, spiritually healthy, and emotionally healthy it benefits everybody.” we want to feel this next year, examining how we spend our time is really the key.” “The truth is that whether you are the manager of a home, CEO of a company, or a busy entrepreneur, your ability to be successful is equal to your physical and mental health and your ability to manage your time and energy.” “Instead we should be doing more activities that actually make us happy and help us grow into who we are meant to be. But we're never going to get to those activities if we don't first set our goals and our priorities.” “Make sure you spend time doing things that get you closer to your goals.” “Finding your rhythm and managing your time is about being proactive and leaving room for things in life that are the most important. When's the last time someone asked you how you've been and your response was “I'm so busy”?   Burnout among millennial women is at record highs.  We're exhausted, and yet we still wear our busyness as a badge of honor. Why is that?!   I get it - slowing down and resting can be challenging.  Especially in a hustle culture that glorifies productivity.   But it's not just busy schedules and overwhelming to-do lists.  There are underlying factors that contribute to our struggle with rest, often rooted in our families of origin and patterns that have been conditioned over time.   In today's episode, I coach through 5 reasons you might have a hard time resting so that you can start to break free from the cycle of busyness.   These are reasons you probably haven't considered before because many of them have been ingrained in us since childhood.  When we know better, we can do better.   TAKE THE PERSONALITY PATTERN QUIZ! Hey Friend I love to be doing something as I am very active and mutlitpassionate, so I really have to intentionally makes choices as to what takes up my time.  I see you trying to do it all and feeling proud of yourself for getting so many things done, but sometimes it is like a busy badge of honor and can be very harmful to your health and relationships all around you and you can really only sustain this for a short time before you hit burnout.  You want to have meaning and purpose in your life, but your busyness is taking that away from you. I was at a christian leadership conference last month and Ally Worthington, who is  a speaker, author, business coach, and podcaster was there and she has a book called Breaking Busy and even though I have not read it, it might be a place to start for you.  I took a few of my tips from her, but most of what I want to teach you today is how I TRY to live each and every day. We each have a different level of limits and you need to be aware of your limits or you will get burnt out quickly.  Don't ever compare yourself to someone else and what they are doing.  They may be in a different season than you and oh my gosh do we have alot of seasons throughout our lives as moms! I mean seriously…having teenagers that can take care of themselves is way different than having babies and toddlers that need help with all their daily needs.  At our conference Ally talked about making the right list-don't make a to do list, make a DONT DO list.  I love this so much, because so many times we are thinking of all that we need to do, but if we eliminate the things we don't like to do, then we will have less stress.  If you want your life to be about what you are meant to do, then you need to stop doing what you think you SHOULD be doing.   Ally said to ask yourself these 2 questions. First, What is sucking the life out of you right now? And Second, Does this activity get you closer to reaching your goals? Ask these 2 questions for every single activity you are doing right now.  After analyzing all your activities, write down every activity that  you are saying yes to that you think you “should” be doing, but in reality should be on your DON'T DO list!  Get that list started! Something I used to do was volunteer at my kid's school.  Sometimes when you work from home, you feel like you should do that, but honestly, that was exhausting for me and I didn't enjoy it at all!  Every once in a while was fine, but I did not enjoy it on a regular basis, so that is something I would have put on my DON'T DO list years ago.   Another tip for future things that come up to protect your time and happiness after you have your don't do list is the 10-10-10 analysis where you ask yourself when making a decision, how will you feel about the decision 10 minutes from now, 10months from now, and in 10 years. And my favorite tip from Ally was to say, thank you for thinking of me, but unfortunately in this season of my life, I'm over capacity, but thanks for asking me!  Isn't that awesome? Right now I live my life so intentionally that I don't have alot of things I would take off my plate, but if you are feeling stressed out trying to do too many things, the don't do list would be a fabulous place to start for you!  Everyday decisions  and daily habits will  break the busyness patterns if you simply start small.   Website: Claimingsimplicity.com Join our Community of Christian Moms -> https://www.facebook.com/groups/claimingsimplicity/ Email -> monica@claimingsimplicity.com Instagram -> https://www.instagram.com/claimingsimplicity/   Love ya!  Monica

One of my favorite quotes by M. Scott Peck is, “Life is difficult. This is a great truth, one of the greatest truths.” Once you accept that life is hard, and the sooner that you accept it, the better off you’ll be. With all the craziness of 2020, it’s important to remember that life is full of struggles and we all have to live with a certain amount of pain. If we let it, our negative thoughts can take over and take us out of the game before we even start.  But, with a little self-awareness, we can learn to quiet our thoughts and manage the uncertainty and self-doubt that arises when times are difficult. My guest today, author, business coach, and Enneagram 7, Alli Worthington joins me for a great conversation about overcoming adversity and moving forward when things are tough. In this episode, we discuss: What it looks like to “Stand Strong.” How to manage pain and crisis without numbing out, and Recognizing and managing your Inner Critic Alli Worthington is known for her straight-talking encouragement and practical tools that help women reach their dreams in business and life.  She’s a business coach and advisor who has worked with companies such as Intel, Disney, Microsoft, and Procter & Gamble. I realize that it is a cliché to say this at this point, but I am just going to say it: 2020 has been a year! There has been this tension of trying to get through the year while also trying to focus on our goals while also dealing with what is happening around us in our culture while also taking care of our families. It is a lot. There are many well-intentioned, encouraging messages that are preached at us, especially women. Things like “you are enough”, “you can do it”, and “you can pull yourself up by your bootstraps.” Those are well-intentioned, but in the end, often leave us feeling overwhelmed and burnt out. My guest today is trying to restructure that narrative with a counternarrative that helps women understand how to overcome adversity and live with confidence. Alli Worthington is known for her straight-talking encouragement and practical tools that help women reach their dreams in business and in life. She’s a business coach and the co-founder of Called Creatives, where she coaches writers and speakers. Today on the podcast we have the wise and wonderful, Alli Worthington. Alli is a speaker, an author, a fellow podcaster, as well as a wife and Mom of FIVE boys (she gives me a little pep talk about raising my one because, Jesus, take the wheel lol). Her most recent book Standing Strong: A Woman's Guide to Overcoming Adversity and Living with Confidence is probably my favorite non-fiction book I’ve read this year. It's a powerful word about leaning in to who the Lord is, and standing strong in HIM. That does NOT mean depending on something else we need to muster up to make it through, it's about truly living the lives He made us for by His strength.  Alli and I also talk about how being a hard worker, and a purposeful steward of what has been entrusted to us, is different from the break neck hustle of living out of our own limited supply that was never created to carry such things outside of God’s endless portion of provision. We dive deep into that as well as how covid has changed so much, but also how nothing about God’s plans for us has changed.  If you need to hear a powerful word of empowerment in who you still are despite how this all feels, encouragement about who God is, no matter how it all looks right now, then this episode is for you. Bestselling author, speaker, and mom to 5 boys Alli Worthington is here with us today to share about her new book Standing Strong: A Woman’s Guide to Overcoming Adversity and Living with Confidence. I loved her book. I felt so understood and genuinely empowered in every chapter. It made me really slow down and take time to reflect on things like: What happens when we show up with faith? What happens when we choose not to be held back by crippling self-doubt and adversity? Why are women drawn to these empowerment movements? What does sisterhood in motherhood look like? Alli’s message is steeped in abundance and faith. She encourages women to show up as who they are not who they’re told they should be. She confronts these messages about playing small with grace and models how to show up to the world with the gifts and talents we were given. On top of all of this, she’s just a gem. Truly. HAPPY almost 2020! We're looking to a new year, a new decade--and it's a great time for a fresh start. What if we all started off with less stress, more joy, greater purpose, and a lower chance of burnout? In this special episode, I'm sharing a free chapter from my book Breaking Busy! I'll share my personal story of how busy almost broke me...until I got (a literal) wakeup call....from my bra. We'll take inventory, learn to recognize the red flags of busy, and get a game plan to go from a frazzled to full life. I'm also giving away chapter one from Breaking Busy free today.   Quotes from this episode- 1. Contrary to what many of us have been told, we all have limits. We can't handle it all, nor should we. We have to stop pretending we are superhuman with an endless supply of energy, because we aren't. Embracing our limits and respecting our personal capacity is the key to success and living out our calling. 2. Not taking care of ourselves works in the short run but it always spells disaster for everyone around us eventually. Taking care of ourselves means we're willing to care for ourselves so we will be able to live out the calling on our lives. Self care is never selfish. You can't live the life that God created for you if you're running on fumes. 3. Having a limited physical capacity is not a flaw in my character, it is by glorious design for an incredible purpose to realize my need for him. 4. When God created us, he created us with limitless capacity to love others and a limitless ability to stretch our talents to be used for his glory. 5. We each have a different capacity level. Our levels increase and decrease, depending on our season and our situation. Identifying and respecting our own capacity is life changing and it's the first step to breaking busy. If you love the message of Breaking Busy and want your own copy, you can grab one on Amazon on sale.   Happy New Year, Alli   www.alliworthington.com/podcast/breakingbusy

In 2006, after 12 years of being a stay-at-home mom to FIVE BOYS, Alli Worthington walked into a bookstore and was overwhelmed by the desire to write a book. But about what? She had no idea where to start, so she went home to her computer, got on her dial-up internet (ah, the nostalgia!) and began googling "how to get a book deal."  One of the results told her she could get a book deal if she had a blog and a large following. So... she googled, "what is a blog?" Now, 13 years later, Alli has authored two books, "Fierce Faith" and "Breaking Busy." She's also a podcaster ("the Alli Worthington Show"), an entrepreneur, and co-founded The Blissdom Conference. P.S. - I attended Blissdom in 2013 in Dallas and loved it so much I'm returning this year (2019) in Nashville, and will be a Community Leader again!  In this episode, I asked Alli what gets her up in the morning (she has a very "real-life" answer!); how she stays organized; how she builds community; how she sets boundaries online; and how she decides when to take a risk in her business. Alli also tells us about Blissdom's beginnings, its hiatus, and what we can expect from the conference in 2019. I just love Alli to pieces. She's so down to earth and as a fellow boy mom, I'm inspired by her relationships with her boys.  Follow Alli on Instagram and visit her website at www.alliworthington.com.

In this episode of the 5 Leadership Questions podcast, Todd Adkins and Daniel Im are joined for the second time by Alli Worthington, the author of Fierce Faith and Breaking Busy, speaker, and the Executive Director of Propel Women. During their conversation, they discuss how to deal with failure, the legacy they want to leave behind, and the need for character as a leader. BEST QUOTES “Fail fast and fail often. Because the faster that you can prove that something doesn’t work, the faster you can find out what does work.” “I have to remind myself all the time that whenever I completely mess something up, it is a stepping stone for me to be able to learn to do it the right way.” “So often we equate God’s blessing with God’s presence, and we think if God doesn’t bless it, he isn’t in it.” “Most of the times in my life where I feel closest to God is through failure.” “As leaders, we have to see ourselves on the frontline of the battle for the kingdom and learn how to fight.” “I want my legacy to be that I cared more about obedience to God more than how I looked to the outside world.” “I am really structured with my day to protect those 4-5 hours when I can do my best work.” “Leadership is all about your character, not your charisma.” “The answer to most of our problems is to just keep going. When things get hard, don’t take that as an indication that you aren’t supposed to do it. But take it as an indication that it is important and you need to keep going.” RECOMMENDED RESOURCES Fierce Faith by Alli Worthington Breaking Busy by Alli Worthington Great by Choice by Jim Collins New Churches Podcast Episode 244: Moving to a New City
