Emily Hirsekorn is a Career Confidence Coach at Hirsekorn Coaching, where she helps lawyers and law students confidently navigate their careers, develop as conscious leaders, and live balanced lives. After practicing law, Emily quickly moved into law school career development, where she helped hundreds of mid-career and emerging lawyers navigate their careers and confidence over the course of seven years. In January of 2020, she felt compelled to coach others in transforming their lives, so she created Hirsekorn Coaching. Since then, she's helped countless people make decisions consciously and confidently. Emily's work is rooted in Positive Psychology's hope theory and iPEC's energy leadership principles, designed to help people shift their energy and start to live on their terms. Whether you're figuring out the next steps in your law career, battling self-doubt, or looking to develop a healthy work-life balance, Emily knows precisely how to guide you through any stage of your career. In this episode… When you're feeling imposter syndrome or self-doubt creep in, it may be time to focus on a critical element of success: confidence. Building this trait is easier said than done, but Emily Hirsekorn is here to guide you through her strategies. So, what can you do to eliminate self-doubt, boost confidence, and grow your legal career? Lawyers tend to stay in their comfort zones and avoid taking risks, but this can leave many feeling unsatisfied with their career growth — or lack thereof. No matter the stage of your career, when your confidence wanes and you're feeling stuck, Emily says it's vital to shift your mindset. Recognize the opportunities in front of you, acknowledge the small wins, and let that energize your confidence. To effectively initiate change, you have to gain a fresh perspective about learning and growth: the unknown can be exciting. In this episode of The Lawyer's Edge Podcast, Elise Holtzman sits down with Emily Hirsekorn, Career Confidence Coach at Hirsekorn Coaching, to talk about why confidence matters. Emily shares how lacking confidence impacts performance, why it's essential to root yourself in a set of values, and her five strategies to boost confidence and achieve the career you desire.

In today's episode, our guest is Nada Lena, founder and CEO of Rise Up For You, Leadership and Career Confidence Coach, #1 Best Selling Author, and a 2x TEDx Motivational Speaker. With over 10 years of experience as a college professor and former top executive for an education corporation, Nada understands the importance of fusing education, empowerment, and leadership as she works with her clients and speaks to audiences worldwide. She has toured the world as a singer, has a Master's degree in Administrative Leadership, and has coached and mentored close to 50,000 individuals around the world on self-empowerment, career strategy, and soft skills. And today, she is going to share with us how she rises after a dilemma and helped other people to be successful. [4:58] Why should we listen to you? I have a great balance of experience, hard work when it comes to schooling education. I think life experience and what we call street smarts are really important. I also think that showing discipline around a certain topic, and competency is important. And there's a combination of both. [06:09] When was the time you're stumbling? I used to be a performer. I used to tour around the world as a singer. I did that for about eight years. And when I got doing that got done doing that, I came back to California. I became an executive. And then I resigned and I let go of all that stuff because I got married, and I moved out of the country. And within two weeks of being married, my husband said he wanted a divorce. All I have is $100. And I just it was embarrassing and shameful. [08:07] The second thing is leadership. I was a performer and an executive, with no idea about entrepreneurship, nothing about building a business. And with $100 I came back, and I just started building because I understood that I could figure out anything. So I might have lost everything externally. But I still had my health, I still had my mom, and my two brothers, and I still had my mind, and you can do a hell of a lot with all of that. [10:50] Where do you think that strength came from? The number one thing is confidence. Confidence is important. Our company is constantly researching this 82% of professionals today struggle from confidence. They say it's their number one challenge on 82% of the workforce. They're saying that their number one challenge is confidence or confidence related. The second thing is gratitude and having a belief in something beyond yourself. When you have that you're able to recognize when things are out of your control. There are some things in life that you just can't control. You need to be able to bounce back and bounce forward. [12:42] What do you think that you learn those moments? The biggest thing I've learned, and I wrote my whole book about it is “what is success?” It's not just about making money and buying your dream home. All the things that bring positivity within yourself to are also important. The big moment for me while I was doing this was recognizing that success is not what society paints it to be sometimes, and you have to dig deep to figure out what it means for you. [14:49] How did you stay that path? It comes down to confidence. You have to value your voice more than other people's voices. It does come back to that tenacity. [16:40] Why it was important for you to have a clear mind? I believe that we're all put on this planet to elevate the human condition to elevate humanity. But we cannot do that unless we start within first. And that's why I wrote the book rise it for you. I think it's important that we all can provide value to other people. But the most common mistake that we make is that we try to do that without doing it for ourselves first. And then we end up pouring from an empty bucket. [18:31] What do you see becomes like the biggest initial hurdle for people? There are two things: The first one is accurate self-assessment. If you can't see it within yourself, then it's hard for you to make that shift. And sometimes people don't understand that you can't see their verbiage or their thoughts. [19:36] The second challenge is taking the action, experience, and then education. Those things can be unstoppable when you take action. The second biggest challenge is making the shift and changing the behavior so that you can create the transformation within yourself and other people. [20:38] Who is your typical client base? We have two divisions in our company. We have a corporate division, we work with small, medium, and large businesses that are struggling with company culture, and really need to help with their teams and their leaders and just enhancing culture on a people development level. Another half of our clients are working professionals that are leaders or business owners that are trying to move that needle and they don't know-how [21:41 ]Where have you found a mistake where you need to rise? It's empathy. I have to recognize that everybody has their journey. You have to be careful to understand that not everyone's motivated the same. Empathy has always been something for me that I have to work on. It doesn't come naturally for me. [23:45] How do you address struggle in real-time? I have an amazing tribe around me. And I have them assess me. I give them what I call a 24 point assessment, we use it on our clients. So the things that we give our clients. I'm constantly being assessed and getting feedback from other people. And I let them keep it anonymous if they want. [25:45] What promise did God make to the world when He created you? You really can reach your full potential. And it starts with you. And it starts with confidence. And I think that's what my gift is when I came to this planet. Here are the highlights of my interview with Nicoletta Mura: Career Confidence Coach on Women Developing Brilliance.Who is Nicoletta Mura?Nicoletta Mura is a Career Confidence Coach with an extensive background in leadership and career development. Her mission is to close the confidence gap to help passion-driven women to claim a seat at the table and lead the way.Nico overcame her confidence challenge and became a manager for a Fortune 500 company and she now helps other women to achieve their career goals, advocating for themselves with ease and authenticity.Lightbulb momentWhen she moved to the UK, with English not being her first language, Nicoletta noticed she was retreating into her shell due to lack of confidence. She realized in order to advance in her career and also have authentic relationships she had to step out of her comfort zone and allow people to truly get to know the real her.Practicing English, which was uncomfortable at the time, is what helped her with confidence. She attributes being able to connect with others and help them with similar struggles to her experience. Shining a bright lightNicoletta has narrowed down the common “mind monkey” that holds women back as what she terms as the confidence gap. She feels it connects with perfectionism. And continues to say...In reality, we aren't perfect at things right away. It's a process and practice - and this is what she helps people with.Big truthIdentify your strengths - this is the first step to building your confidence. It's important to have a quick win and see yourself succeeding in some area of your life.Reframing the narrative makes a big difference. For example, look at the impact of these two statements: “I'm not good enough” and “I'm not good enough yet.” With the addition of 1 word, it has the power to evoke compassion and changes the story. We define our world with our words. Balance in a chaotic worldNicoletta uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in her coaching to help clients improve their behavior by understanding the interconnection of our thoughts, feelings, and actions. She says we focus so much on how we feel, but there is no button to immediately change a feeling. However, we can control our actions and then our thoughts and feelings will automatically follow. She recommends Strengths Finder 2.0 to hone in on your unique personality traits. Knowing this information helps you focus on incorporating what you're good at in your business which will optimize results.I loved my time with Nicoletta becauseWe are kindred spirits! I met Nico online when we were both taking a story writing class. We value sharing our message with authenticity and empowering women to use their voice. She leaves us with these words of wisdom: You are worthy of achieving your dreams. Connect with Nicoletta: https://www.poisetoshine.com
