Jason Schulweis isn't content cheering equality from the sidelines. One year into his post as Chief Commercial Officer at The Female Quotient, he's using a revenue playbook rooted in allyship, empathy, and measurable results. In his chat with Ryan, he shares how the role allows him to model hands-on advocacy for his four-year-old daughter and two-year-old son. Jason unpacks the business engine behind The Female Quotient's mission—demonstrating how companies across industries can drive growth while embedding inclusion, not as a side initiative but as a central strategy. His call to men is simple and urgent: learn, listen, and trade passive support for active participation.
What if the rules you've been told to follow were never designed for you to succeed? Shelley Zalis asked that question and then rewrote the playbook. As the founder and CEO of The Female Quotient, she built the largest global community of women in business, spanning 30 industries and 100+ countries. A trailblazing entrepreneur and change agent, Shelley turned a defining career setback into a movement for workplace equality. In this episode, we talk about leading with courage, challenging outdated systems, and taking action without waiting for permission. Welcome to the Be It Till You See It podcast where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring. I'm Lesley Logan, Pilates instructor and fitness business coach. I've trained thousands of people around the world and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt. My friends, action brings clarity and it's the antidote to fear. Each week, my guest will bring bold, executable, intrinsic and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and Be It Till You See It. It's a practice, not a perfect. Let's get started.Lesley Logan 0:48 Hi, Be It babe. How are you? How's it going? We're like, midway through this April month, we're cruising right along. There's a lot going on and I love that you are taking time in the chaos to listen to this podcast. It doesn't grow without you. Every time you listen, every time you download, you are helping other people hear this podcast as well. So it's inspiration episode, and I want to highlight this Female Quotient post Shirley Chisholm was the first black woman elected to Congress, the first black woman to run for president, and an example for generations to come. Shirley Chisholm was a force of change in American politics as the first black woman elected to Congress in 1968 and the first woman and first black candidate to seek the Democratic presidential nomination in 1972. She shattered barriers as she fought for racial and gender equality. Even decades later, she continues to inspire others to bring that folding chair to tables that may not save them a seat. Definitely a trailblazer. And I would say, if you haven't ever read about her, she is absolutely, really worthy of listening to something about and just diving in because this woman faced so many obstacles, not just because she was a woman, but she was a black woman, and she made a chair for herself, and she kept doing it and she's an inspiration for everyone, and also not letting people who had weird rules about what she couldn't, can and can't do, stop her from realizing a dream and raising that path. And so I just share that with you, because when there's a lot going on in the world, it can kind of feel like, what does my goal even matter? Why am I even doing this? Does it even matter? And the truth is, is that maybe 50 years down the road, we're gonna be looking back at the things that you did, because you were an impact for people who needed it. And if what you do is going to help others, then you gotta talk about it. You gotta do it. You cannot let people and obstacles and rules hold you back. Cannot. And so anyways, I hope that you know a lot about Shirley, but if you don't go research her, she'll blow your mind. Lesley Logan 2:43 Okay, your wins. So, we have Sonia. She's an eLevate grad and agency member. She wrote, the last six months have been a huge whirlwind of emotions, stress, happiness, physically and mentally exhausting, but also exciting and full of hope and happiness. After moving country, we finally bought a new home. We moved in this week. While there's been a lot of work, it's also super exciting. We're already talking about plans to build a home studio so I can restart my business here. It will take some time and at quite a cost, but in the long run, will be worth it. Oh, and I also scored myself some part time contract to work at a beautiful physio-Pilates studio, teaching just three mornings a week. The setup is similar to a Joe's gym. Everyone has their own program, and I'm there just to queue, adjust, advise. I went to observe one class. It was so nice to be being background equipment and people who love it as much as I do. And since doing eLevate, I was desperate to get in and change things. Haha. Although very aware I need to do this slowly and cautiously. So my win is for an exciting and busy 2025 getting my home and my business up and running. Sonia, it's so fun. I mean, I can't believe how long you've lived in your new country. And you know, I know that finding a home was just taking forever, and it kind of probably felt like you, when were you gonna find something. So, I'm just so happy that you and your family have that. But also, I want to say for everyone listening, you hear a win, and you don't realize all the emotions that went into that win. And so I love that Sonia shared these emotions that go into this win, because it isn't all unicorns and sparkly rainbows. And so you have to really, actually celebrate what is happening and what is in your control, and how that can make the year possible, even if it feels like it started off slow, right? Lesley Logan 4:22 MelissaYNagai, she has been an agency member since day one, and she wrote, 15 months of getting online every Tuesday and Thursday morning for a course is complete. I don't know what I'm going to do with myself now. Probably a good time to do Pilates. Today is my last day of teaching for the holidays. I start back up on January 6. I had my best year ever. So obviously, we're celebrating Melissa four months after her best year ever. But can we just take a moment? Do you ever end a year realizing all that you did do? And I can tell you, because I know Melissa, and we work with her a lot, it wasn't like everything went perfectly this year. She had a lot of ups and downs, and with that, she stayed the course. She was consistent. She had her best year ever, and she did that while she poured into herself and her education. So my loves, where can you pour into yourself and where can you take time to reflect on what you did do? Congratulations, Melissa. You have been working so hard year after year. You always beat yourself, but I love that was your best year ever, and I love how you feel good and that you're taking a break as one should, or that you did take a break as one should, because we all need breaks. Lesley Logan 5:26 And that's my win. Last week, Brad and I took a big break. We had a crazy end of February, beginning of March, lot going on, and I had a big decision to make about one of our products for 2026 and I had told the team that I would make the decision around this time, and I really was like, you cannot pressure me. I need you just to wait. I'll tell you around this date, because I want to make sure that I'm not making the decision based on income. I'm not making the decision based on pressure, based on letting people down, that I'm making the decision based on what is right for me, because what is right for me will be right for the company. And so I'm really celebrating that we took a weekend off, even though we had a million things that we could be doing, and that I made a decision from a pause, because there's power in a pause, and I made a decision based on what was right for me, and then everyone, and not on pressure of what's expected of me, and that's really not easy to do as a recovering perfectionist and overachiever and a firstborn daughter. So help that win inspires you. Take a weekend off, guys, if you want to know, we actually plan one weekend every quarter is off, like it's just like Friday to Monday, it's off. And I prefer it to not be a holiday weekend, because we would get a holiday weekend off anyways. So I want a, I want a different weekend. I want a different weekend. Lesley Logan 6:45 All right, your mantra. My energy gets wasted when I invest in winning anyone's game but my own. My energy gets wasted when I invest in winning anyone's game but my own. My loves, invest in yourself. Thank you for listening to this podcast that goes in the investment bucket of inspiration for you and until next time, Be It Till You See It. Let's get started.Lesley Logan 0:48 Hello, Be It babe. It's my birthday weekend. Thank you for listening to this podcast. It's a birthday gift to me. And if you were like, oh my God, I didn't get her anything. You know what you can do? You can leave me a review. You can show this to a friend. You can send a win in to The Be It Pod. We can shout it out. You can just say, hey, my favorite episode was x. I love all that. I want to hear that. Want to celebrate it with you. Lesley Logan 1:08 All right, so we're going to celebrate someone who inspired me this week on the interwebs. This girl is so freaking cute. This is from F1 Academy. Freya Lally makes history as the first female driver to reach the Grand Finals, securing a top 10 spot in the British Indoor Karting Championship. Let me just tell you that Freya Lally looks like she's 10 years old and she might be. It says, "How do we fuel the future of women in motorsports? It starts at events like the British Indoor Karting Championship (BIKC), the largest single motorsport competition in the world, with over 5,300 participants across categories. This year, Freya Lally made history as the only female driver ever to reach the Grand Finals, securing a top 10 finish in the Cadets and earning a fully funded Club100 championship seat, the next step on the UK karting ladder. Freya's achievement is a testament to the growing presence of women in motorsports, with female participation in the BIKC surging 400%. In our shared mission to accelerate gender equality, The Female Quotient and F1 Academy are sparking bold conversations and taking action. Let's come together to challenge the status quo and ignite change, on and off the track." This is so cool that I wish they had said how old she is. I swear to God, I'm not lying. She looks like she's 10 years old, and I freaking love it. You guys, it takes time to make some changes. And if you are sitting here listening to this podcast and being it till you see it, and you're like, there needs to be representation here. This needs to exist. I've got to create this thing because it needs to exist. Just know that absolutely you should do it. And it takes time. And something else that I really love is we're highlighting this girl and she's not necessarily the winner. She was just in the finals. And I think I'm gonna take back my (inaudible). She's in the finals. So often, if the person's not first place, we're like, whatever. It didn't change anything. No, it changes things when someone who's not usually in the top is in the top, and we take time to celebrate that. We take time to go, oh my God, it is possible for me to make change, for me to do something different. If you're a parent for your kid to be the first of 100 to do something. All these things are really, really, really awesome and possible. And you know, we got to celebrate what did happen. That's why this episode even exists. What did you do? Right? Lesley Logan 3:14 So speaking of what you did, here we go. Let's shout out some of our FYF people of the week. Kimberly Craig is an Agency member at one of my OG eLevate grads, and I just am obsessed with her. Happy FYF, it's my 50th birthday on Tuesday, and my sister and bestie made the day phenomenal. I felt so loved and celebrated the entire day. My sister and I got matching tattoos, and they are the epitome of us and our relationship. Cute, fun, silly and sentimental. My other tattoos are hidden, so it's out of my comfort zone to get it on my hand, but I love it, and it makes me smile every time I look at it. When we clasp our hands together, they're hugging. I don't have the pic for you for this. But I did see it and it's really cute. Little tattoos are hugging. I just did my first live virtual workout of my 50 Days of Pilates sessions this summer. In honor of my milestone birthday, I'm celebrating that with the people I have. Each live workout is making more than my magic number, which is awesome because I only charged $50 for it. I had a few people join live, including a new person who said she had no idea what Pilates was, but loved it. It was so much fun. This weekend, my son is racing his first pro motocross race, and so I'm going to cheer him on and celebrate. It's been a long road getting there. He's been running for 17 years, and was the last kid in every race for about 11 of those years. If that's not a testament to baby steps and perseverance, I don't know what is. It's a great reminder that just because it doesn't look like things are happening doesn't mean they aren't changing massively. So true for life, business and your Pilates practice, Holy freaking molly. I just want to say, you guys, I read this when, months ago, when it came in. We have, obviously, we have a few. We try to get a couple every week. So I don't ever want to skip over any so I want to get them to you. But sometimes they're like, and I did not realize that I picked the go-kart girl and the same guy as the motocross kid. But check these people out. Perseverance, yes, oh my gosh. Kim Craig, your wins are always fabulous and I would just love celebrating you and happy 50th birthday. On my birthday weekend. I know, we don't have the same birthday, but we're celebrating together now. Lesley Logan 5:01 Okay. Tania Tsiora, she is an Agency, ex Agency member, and I just loved working with her. She says hello, several new clients who started this week compared to last year's. Let's see how it goes and who stays the course. In half an hour, we have, in the studio, the first teachers practice, teachers from other studios. We will be four. I'm so excited, because yesterday, one more registered for the retreat next month in Greece. We have two more spots available. Also my win for this week, it's how grateful I am to celebrate one year in Agency with you, Lesley, Brad, Kirsten, Maya, Roxy, and all of you. And how much has this helped and guided me, for both myself and the studio to grow. You know, Tania, I love that you were able to take a moment to compare yourself to yourself and go wow, this week, this week, you got more new people than it did a year ago. In a week. These are the things we have to do, especially when working towards something, because we don't realize how we are always going up. It is always growing. It's just that sometimes you go down to go up, down to go up, down to go up, but you're going up. It's like the stock market, even when it crashes, it goes back higher, right? Like it just does that. So, at any rate, thank you ladies for sharing those business wins, those personal wins, the moments in between. Like we're not waiting for perfection before we celebrate around here. No, we are not. That is the 2025 thing. We do not wait until it's over to celebrate the win. Lesley Logan 6:18 So my win, I mean, I was born this weekend. No, my win is as I literally turned 42 this weekend, don't feel older. I feel more energized. I feel more supported. I feel calmer in doing less. I feel proud of doing less. And when people go I know you're so busy, I literally say I'm not that busy. It just looks that way. What do you need? And if I can't do it, I'm like, great, here's who you need to call instead. My win is that I hope that I am the things that I've heard women who, when they turn 50 and 60, say that they no longer do because now they're 50 and 60 and they're living their best decade. I have listened ladies, and I have learned. I have observed, and I'm doing it at 42 because why wait? So my win is I listened to my elders. I made those changes now. And truthfully, I refuse to buy into the I'm getting older thing, meaning that, like time is short on this earth, and I need to rush. I don't need to rush on anything. I get to sit here with you for a couple more seconds as we read the mantra for this week. Lesley Logan 7:24 So this is back from that CHANI Deck. I release what keeps me sheltered from life. I create space for what encourages my growth. I rejoice in the ways that life emboldens my best to come forth always. I don't know why. Lately, all the mantras have been like three sentences, but they happen. So here we go. I release what keeps me sheltered from life. You could just stop right there, like that could be maybe that's the mantra you need. I create space where it encourages my growth. Create space. You guys, just because it's January doesn't mean you have to set goals yet you'd be actually just creating space. I rejoice in the ways that life emboldens my best to come forth always. I'm gonna end with that one. One more time, I rejoice in the ways that life emboldens my best to come forth. Always, you guys, I'm rejoicing you. You're amazing. And please share this with a friend who needs to hear wins and inspiration that things are going well somewhere for someone, which means that it can happen to them. This is not the Pi of support. This is the infinity symbol. And until next time, Be It Till You See It. Lesley Logan 8:30 That's all I got for this episode of the Be It Till You See It Podcast. I also just want to highlight like people who've inspired the fuck out of me, like women, specifically, who've inspired me, who may or may not be on this podcast, who knows, maybe they'll find out that I've shouted them out. So we're gonna kick off our year with someone who I learned about from an Instagram account called Female Quotient. Her name is Margret Chola, an 85 year old grandmother from a rural village in Zambia has become an icon of reinvention and intergenerational collaboration. With the support of her granddaughter, Diana Kalezhi (Dee), a New York City based stylist Margret, has captured the world's attention. Their bond and collaboration is a reflection of the confidence, creativity, and courage it takes to embrace individuality. Dee shared the shoot was impromptu and very low stakes, as these images were simply meant to live on my Instagram page. Little did she know that those posts would leave an impact on the way we view beauty and self-expression at any age. It's a reminder that no matter where you start, your story can ripple far beyond your expectations. So I love this. If you're watching on YouTube, you'll have to click the Instagram link, but I'll just show you like, look at Margret, freaking gorgeous woman. So it's this 85 year old grandma from Zambia, and she is wearing every color with gloves and fabulous pineapple crystal glasses, and she's just got the smile on her face gorgeous bracelet, like you just want to have it. And then if you keep going, she's got this hat that I dream to have. Maybe someday it won't even fit in the car, but my gosh, it's stunning with her glasses and her shoes, like and her shoes, oh my gosh, I love this, because it's an introgen, like granddaughter and grandmother created this thing, and they had low expectations, and it turned out that it was like inspiring women everywhere. And honestly, like, the pictures keep going. And I just want to now meet Margret, and I'm so inspired by her. If you're hearing this today going, why the heck am I learning about Margret? Go click the link, because you may need to be inspired. Doesn't matter what your age is, doesn't matter what your body looks like. You can put together some fabulous things that that have a ripple effect, as they said, beyond where you live. You can inspire people. She has inspired me. I think I'm gonna go get dressed up for today, literally, holy moly, I'm gonna step it up a notch because of this. So that is our new segment, shouting out someone who inspired me, who caught my attention, and I love that she's with her granddaughter, Dee, and I love that they're affecting people around the world. You could be doing that too. And now let's talk about you. Let's share the wins that you have. So here we go. First up, we have Heather Ingram. She is an eLevate grad, an Agency member. She's done an OPC workshop for us. I absolutely love this woman, and she wrote fab webinar with Kareen Walsh today on becoming a magnet for money. Sign me up for that. Also just finished a fantastic session with my favorite private client, who does her homework three times a week, and the progress in her Pilates practice is effing inspiring. As I watched her move through her flow today, I actually had a proud moment when I caught my own reflection in the mirror, made eye contact with myself and silently said to myself, you did this for her. You helped her get here. You're pretty effing great. You are. I always in my sessions with a standing roll down arm circle and then reach around to pat themselves on their back for their energy effort. Great session. Give themselves some love. And today was the first time I gave love to myself for what I'm doing for my clients. Yes, tooting my horn. Heather, thank you for inspiring us all to toot our own horns. We should all do it more often. How freaking cool is that I love that you actually saw yourself and like actually had that moment with yourself, because it's so true. Yes, she's doing her homework, but you managed to inspire her to do that. You chose these exercises for her. You set these things up so that she could have the success that she's having. So way to go, girl. It's like another collaboration. This is another collaboration. Okay? Dana Karen, who's an Agency member, she wrote, wow, my heart is so incredibly full right now. I am on day two of seven-day challenge I'm running for getting active and chronic pain called meant to move after my book. I've been busting my ass for the past four weeks or so leading up to this challenge with IG lives and new freebies and tons of promos, it was so exhausted by the time it even started. I was disappointed at first to just get four items, because I'm making, like, $2 an hour, but I have to say that things are going so well. So far, I just got off two back to back coaching calls with people telling me how grateful they are for the safe space that the challenge created and how happy they feel to have guidance and support to get going. The second client said to me, the moving part is just a bonus. What I needed was a safe container to put my grief and feelings about movement and where it was okay to be starting from scratch, and you gave me that. I mean that sentiment right there is exactly why I wrote the book, why I created my first paid program in 2022, and why I made this challenge. I've been trying to figure out the correct formula for years without success, and I feel like I'm finally hitting on something that might actually work if I can figure out how to find my people. I just feel so fulfilled knowing that this is working for someone, and it made my whole month. Dana, way to go, babe, way to go. You know, I think we all look at people and maybe even look at this podcast, and you go, oh my God, she must have had, like all the listeners, as soon as she hit play, whatever, whatever you hit to upload the episode. I don't know what my team does. No, you have to work for it. And yes, there are sometimes moments where these flash in the pan like everything aligns, and it works out really, really well. But typically it doesn't work like that. Typically those stars, they die fast. What really is the truth is that every single person out there that you are seeing share their gifts and change people's lives have been doing it like a duck on the water, just like looking so smooth, but underneath they're just like, kicking their feet, kicking, kick, kick, kicking, you know, just like, so, so much. So I just so appreciate you sharing with us the hard work that you went through. DK, and then also that you're feeling so fulfilled. And so I'm in day two. The money will come. It just will. But you're changing people's lives, and you're learning about what they need to hear from you. So you can keep doing that. And congrats on your amazing book. All right, a quick win of mine. So we are not even done with this tour. I'm still on it. I'm still on it, and what I'm gonna say is, my win is that I'm having the best time. I really am. I'm so honored and so grateful and so blessed. And that's a win, you know, because it'd be so easy for me to sit here and focus on, like, the times that the schedule didn't work correctly, or we hit traffic, or, you know, something happened. I mean, one summer tour, the dogs jumped out of the van to run into a store that Brad was in, you know, so the chaos can happen. But I am going to say is, with about five days left on this tour and only a couple stops left to go, I would do it again. I would do it again. Really, really would. So thank you, if you came out on the tour, thank you for doing that. We will announce our West Coast summer tour soon, but not so soon, because I've gotta, I gotta relax. Gotta take some time. Okay, let me leave you with a mantra. The last couple years, I've gotten the mantras offline. Now because you guys have been so generous and gifted me so many mantras, I'm either getting them off of Instagram, or I have a couple decks that I am using. And so today, it's from the CHANI deck of plenty. No sponsorship here. I just like her. I send my past self love, I send my future self strength, I shower my current self with a million compassion affirmation. I send my past self love. Let's do that. I send my future self strength. Take a moment. I shower my current self with a million compassion affirmations. If you need a million of them, just Google top affirmations for 2025, right, and just keep reading them. Here one more time. I send my past self love, I send my future self strength. I shower my current self with a million compassion affirmations. You guys, we've had many, many guests on talk about affirmations and putting Post-its up and putting them where you can see them. May this be your sign that you do that. Maybe that's your win. And if it is, send it in to us, so we can shout you out on the next FYF. Have an amazing day. And until next time, be it till you see it. That's all I got for this episode of the Be It Till You See It Podcast. One thing that would help both myself and future listeners is for you to rate the show and leave a review and follow or subscribe for free wherever you listen to your podcast. In this episode of the GaryVee Audio Experience, I'm sharing a discussion I had at the Female Quotient panel in Cannes back in 2022. We explored what it truly means to succeed in today's world. We delved into the challenges of pioneering online research, overcoming industry resistance, and transforming media consumption from traditional TV to streaming services. We addressed the persistent issues of gender inequality in advertising and emphasized the importance of likability in ad effectiveness. Our conversation highlighted the vital role of education and how it's being redefined, especially within the context of Web3. We celebrated the efforts to bring more women into this space and discussed the importance of upskilling and awareness. This episode also touched on the value of authenticity in business and the significant impact of diversity and inclusion in shaping the future. We emphasized the need for compassion and understanding in leadership, aiming to inspire listeners to approach success with empathy and a broader perspective on societal impact. This conversation is a must-listen for anyone looking to understand the evolving landscape of success and leadership in the digital age.

With 3.5 million jobs available across the globe, cybersecurity is one of the fastest-growing and most vital sectors on the planet. Kicking off 2024, my fellow podcaster - but really more known as the expert in shoppable video, Cynthia Nelson - turned the mic on me, inviting me to guest on her show “Let's Talk About Live Shopping.” Being in the hot seat myself was instructive as I thought back to the many takeaways of my inspiring guests in the media and marketing landscape this past year. Then we vamped about what's coming down the pike as I head to CES this week! (I encourage listeners to catch the last couple minutes to see if you can spot the AI version of me!) First, Cynthia asked me to reflect on podcasting's continued evolution. I shared some points from Sounds Profitable's Bryan Barletta, a past Insider Interviews guest. As we hit the 03:00 mark, I noted the trend research he and Tom Webster recently shared with the help of another past guest, Paul Riismandel of Signal Hill Insights, on how people are consuming podcasts in video form. (Note: People increasingly “listen” on YouTube while multi-tasking, as formats merge.) Around the 06:44 mark, Cynthia asked about the fuzzy definition of the fast moving category of retail media. (Here's an article I wrote about that.) As lines blur across channels, retail media represents the personalized targeted impressions served to consumers on their path to purchase. This stretches from out-of-home displays driving awareness to retail media networks architected by heir apparents like Walmart and Target (and of course the mac daddy, Amazon.) I passionately relayed the research I could recall from a chock-full interview with Lou Paskalis on news media's high ROAS and its ability to capture lucrative unduplicated audiences. Yet misperceptions linger, undeservedly tarnishing outlets. Quality checks through firms like Ad Fontes help instill confidence for brands to proudly and safely reinvest in news. And hint: that's one of the things I'll be speaking with Matt Prohaska about in a conversation I'll publish out of CES!* Speaking of speaking at CES... I'll be spotting the brand marketing and media stars at Brand Innovators, DPAA, Female Quotient and MediaLink, if they'll have me! Then I'll walking the (2 million square feet!) floor with some trusted pundit friends, David Berkowitz and Kathy Newberger to capture what we're seeing in the media area and the always groovy Eureka! Hall of innovation. I'm looking forward to seeing, of course, voice-activation technologies to a soundbar aiming to help distinguish conversation tones as we age. She says although some sisters can be competitive, hers always had a great relationship where they were different from one another, but supported each other. Like many of us, Shelley's first job didn't bring in a lot of income. What Shelley did get out of her first job was an awesome education in client relationships, marketing, and boots on the ground market research. Shelley had a performance review at her next job at a larger company that changed the course of her life and career forever. She was chastised for being too assertive and essentially doing her job by spending tons of time with clients. This was the impetus for her to leave and pursue the founding of her own business, under her own rules. When starting her company, Shelley could have taken a million dollar investment split equally between her father and husband. She instead took money from statistics company Nielsen, where she gave up a majority of the equity in her business. Back in 2013, Shelley had the opportunity to go to CES, but had no one to go with. So she reached out to a few of her girlfriends to come instead, told them to invite their girlfriends, and when they got there, they were in a group of about 50 women. This turned a lot of heads at a male dominated conference, and thus the idea for The Female Quotient was born.

On this episode of BRAVE COMMERCE, Shelley Zalis, Founder and CEO of The Female Quotient, joins hosts Rachel Tipograph and Sarah Hofstetter to discuss the importance of gender equality and diversity in business.Shelley begins by sharing her personal experiences as one of the two women on a board of 25 men, shedding light on her journey towards founding The Female Quotient. She emphasizes how, rather than waiting for change to happen, she took the initiative to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the corporate world, even when it was not widely recognized as a priority.Drawing from a pivotal experience where she gathered a group of women at a male-dominated convention, Shelley shares how this moment of collective empowerment became the catalyst for The Female Quotient. She emphasizes how this experience highlighted the power of women working together, challenging the status quo of competition, and promoting a culture of collaboration and shared success. Finally, Zalis concludes with her approach to success, "If you don't fail, you don't succeed", highlighting the importance of embracing failure as a stepping stone to success.Key Takeaways:Waiting for the right time doesn't bring change; it's the initiative and action that doesThe potential for faster change increases when existing norms are actively challengedA decade ago, diversity, equity, and inclusion weren't business priorities. Did you know there's a lot more to Danone than Dannon? Do you know the definition of a B Corp? Oat or Soy... or a new low-sugar non-dairy milk? Linda Bethea, Head of Marketing for Danone North America—a top 15 Food and Beverage company in the US—gives us the insider's scoop on all of the above and how she markets all TWENTY of Danone's brands. She is shaping the marketing strategy for some of the most loved CPG products in the country—from Danimals to Evian Water and (my personal favorite) Stok Coffee. Since Danone is the country's LARGEST B Corp (listen and learn!), we explore the role of brand purpose in marketing today. Something that runs deep at Danone, going back half a century when the CEO started the concept of a “Dual Project" where companies care about societal value as much as shareholder value. Consumers want brands that take a stand and have a strong point of view. Building brands with purpose that positively impact the world is core to everything we do at Danone. Linda has enjoyed an impressive marketing career across CPG categories, from potato chips to liquor, and now leads a massive team that's moving the Danone name into the future. That means pushing the envelope on product development, navigating the ever-changing marketing landscape, and finding unique brand partnerships that align with the corporate mission... all while continuing to “delight” consumers. Heads up, there will be a lot of (brand)name-dropping in this episode! Linda and I get into: How consumer tastes and trends drive innovation and marketing creativity Linda's path from soda to spirits to spirited field work that that supercharged her path to leadership and taught her how to negotiate and get things done Cool ways Danone is raising the sustainability bar, like rescuing fruit and repurposing bottles into shoes...and how those efforts influenced her home life Her definition of brand purpose and how proper marketing of it impacts consumer choice and company values What' my on my plate as an ova-lacto-pesce-vegetarian, and is the demand for plant-based foods today just a trend or...? Why she's bullish on audio when it comes to winning the consumer attention game (this will really resonate when you catch my NEXT podcast interview -- with Pierre Bouvard, Head of Research for Cumulus Westwood One!) How she earned the nickname of The Velvet Hammer... And...what Linda reads and watches with her 13-year-old daughter that makes her a better parent. She's smart, and inspiring and mission-driven. Don't miss this conversation with a conscientious consumer marketer and leader. NOTE: If you'll be at SXSW in March '22, you can find her speaking with me more about the power of audio, thanks to Sounds Profitable. Ask me for deets. podcasts@mossappeal.com Big scoop! Read about the impact of dairy and what Danone is doing to reduce methane. And see their new campaign for Silk "NextMilk", designed to inspire the next generation of milk drinkers, but made from plants and with 75% less sugar. The Real Estate InvestHER Show with Elizabeth Faircloth and Andresa Guidelli
Being the best version of yourself takes time, which is why potential is going to be the main topic in this episode! Welcome ladies to The Real Estate InvestHER Show takes a deep dive into how to reach one's full potential with our special guest Nada Lena Nasserdeen. Nada is a highly experienced college professor and former education corporation executive. She has a Master's degree in Administrative Leadership and has traveled the world as a singer and motivational speaker, appearing on TEDx Talks, The Female Quotient, and more. Nada has mentored nearly 50,000 individuals on self-empowerment, career strategy, and soft skills through her company, Rise Up For You. She has also worked with Fortune 500 companies and small businesses and has been recognized as a 40 under 40 professional and Women of Influence for Entrepreneurship. Through her five-step process and discussing building a relationship with oneself, Nada explains why potential is often ignored due to our negative thoughts and lack of confidence and the importance of tapping into personal potential and the six pillars of life: self-worth, career, romantic life, health, relationships, and money. Nada shares her story of going through many life challenges, from being a performer to an executive to losing everything after getting married. Ultimately, she learned that it is not the quantity or technical skill of what you do but the depth of experience that matters. This conversation explores the idea that living with the intention of dying empty – having done everything one wanted to do in life – is the most effective way to reach full potential. With advice on how to create more urgency within oneself and focus on personal growth rather than trying to please others, this episode encourages listeners to take time for self-reflection and identify people who will help them reach their goals by committing to themselves. Join us for this inspiring conversation about finding self-love and faith even in difficult moments so you can build a life you are proud of!
