My guest, Ritzy Periwinkle, host of the podcast "Word To Your Mama,"  survived her mother's abusive partner but at a very young age, she believed she was powerful enough to harm him in order to save her mother.   At a young age,she knew she wouldn't repeat her mother's choice to stay in an abusive relationship but her mom often felt helpless with all her limitations as a female immigrant and a middle school education.Ritzy says, "because of  all of our limitations, my mom and I were always the underdog."  Because of this philosophy, Ritzy says she's a supporter of  culture, justice and diversity, a topic she often discusses on her podcast.  She always speaks up for those less fortunate and don't have a voice.Because of the choices her mom made, Periwinkle is thriving in part because of therapy and wants everyone to know that there is help out there.  "If we share our stories, we can help each other and make some real change,"says the WTYM podcast host."My mother was sweet, loving and a caring person who suffered a lot," says  Periwinkle. Some of her most memorable assignments include covering the 2012 Tea Party movement across the southern United States, the 2016 DNC and legalization of cannabis in more than a dozen states and the shooting death of Michael Brown by police in Ferguson, Missouri. Her work appeared on-air and online for dozens of mainstream and niche media outlets including NPR, Forbes, ABC News, CBS, Fox, and most recently BET Digital. A Beaufort, South Carolina native of Gullah heritage, Sasha earned her Bachelor's degree in Communications from the College of Charleston and her Master's degree in Journalism from Georgetown University. After appearing as “The Journalist” on ABC's cult classic “Whodunnit? (2013) Sasha relocated from the East coast to Los Angeles where she launched Sasha Talks Tech, an online resource for gadget, product, and app reviews. What started as a blog quickly expanded to include television segments, podcasts and speaking engagements across the globe covering red carpet interviews with global founders of diverse backgrounds at Web Summit in Lisbon, Portugal, as a startup panel judge at the Dublin Tech Summit in Ireland, and as moderator at Wonder Women Tech in Long Beach and Keynote speaker at the Tennessee Technology Student Association State Conference. She is also a sought after speaker and host and has hosted live and virtual events across the globe from the Sydney Opera House with Inspectah Deck and his Wu-Tang brothers to major launches from XBox and PlayStation at E3 in Los Angeles. An Air Force veteran, Sasha identifies as a servant leader and has altruism at the top of her list of values when it comes to taking on projects and partnerships. It was her desire to create opportunities for other creatives and techies that led her to found Perks of Ambition, a collective of community thought leaders using the digital space to amplify multicultural voices and perspectives. In 2021, Sasha self-funded and curated a 10-week virtual course for a cohort of driven, Gen-Z creative entrepreneurs. The summer program included workshops illustrating the ways creative entrepreneurs can streamline their business, use the digital space to gain exposure, increase their revenue and build generational wealth. But just as long as you can stay inspired, you can make it happen and that's what storytelling to me.

Stefanie lost her battle with cancer this year, taken from us far too soon. We hold her dearly in our hearts. In 2007 Edie Littlefield Sundby was diagnosed with stage-4 cancer of the gallbladder, and was told she only had 3 months to live. Determined to remain resilient, she has become the first person to walk the 1,600 mile El Camino Real de las Californias mission trail, after losing most of her right-lung. Edie credits walking with saving her life. In today's episode Edie relays her incredible journey; from growing up in rural Oklahoma as the youngest of 12, wearing dresses her mother made out of flour sacks, to being a sales executive at IBM and tech entrepreneur, to author of her 2017 memoir published by HarperCollins; The Mission Walker. At a Moda 360 event in L.A. Laura connected with fashion and beauty-blogger Vida Ghaffari. She is also an award-winning actress and voice over artist and landed a great co-starring role in Mindy Kaling’s humorous The Mindy Project. She has also starred in Comedy Central’s Mind of Mencia. Ever the fashionista, Vida recently graced the cover of noted fashion magazine FVM Global Magazine twice as well as Shine On Hollywood Magazine and 1st Class Magazine and was quoted about her knowledge of red carpet fashion for the Oscars by US News and World Report. Vida also hosts many charity events as well as women’s groups and conferences and most recently, she was the main stage MC for the inaugural Wonder Women Tech conference.
