Since then, he has toured and recorded with artists such as Chico Freeman and Me'Shell N'degeocello, continually shaping his versatile and groove-driven sound.Dyson has released three solo albums—Soulmates (1999), The Dawning (2004), and Unleashed (2008)—as well as a collaboration with Unit 3 Deep on Groove Theory (2017). His extensive career spans R&B, funk, jazz, and Go-Go, and he remains an influential force in the bass community. À l'aube des années 80, il arrive à Paris pour étudier la musique et joue beaucoup de musique latine, notamment dans le groupe La Manigua avant d'être, avec Nguyen Lê, le cofondateur du groupe de jazz-rock fusion Ultramarine. Il devient vite très demandé et enchaîne les collaborations avec des artistes comme Lavelle, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Nicole Croisille, mais aussi Carter Jefferson ou encore Chico Freeman. Dans cet album sobrement intitulé Mario Canonge Trio, il revisite ses compositions passées et actuelles avec une paire rythmique de feu. À la contrebasse, il retrouve Michel Alibo, vieux compagnon de route avec lequel il était notamment au départ du groupe Sakiyo, éclair fulgurant dans la musique Caribéenne de la fin des années 80. Derrière les fûts, tout simplement le batteur le plus en vue et le plus demandé de la scène française, Arnaud Dolmen, dont le dernier album Adjusting (2022) lui a valu de recevoir le prix « Révélation » aux dernières Victoires du Jazz, ainsi que le titre de « Musicien de l'année » décerné par les rédactions de Jazz Magazine et Jazz News. Capté en public au Comptoir de Fontenay-sous-Bois en janvier 2023 pour le compte du label Aztec Musique, ce disque dévoile la complicité d'un trio où même les silences sont éloquents. The Maroon's Jake Zucker and William Kimani interview saxophonist and Chicago native Chico Freeman, who performed live at the 2023 Hyde Park Jazz Festival as part of the Chico Freeman Quintet. They are joined by Michael Allemana (Ph.D. '20), a researcher of ethnomusicology and Director of the University's Jazz Ensemble. Chico's bio: "Heralded as one of the most important saxophonists of our time, composer and producer Chico Freeman has perfected an immediately recognizable approach to music and composition, blending what he has experienced from his past and providing fluidity into a future of infinite musical possibilities. For Chico Freeman, Jazz is the family business.  His father played with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker and Ella Fitzgerald and his grandfather was an associate of Louis Armstrong. Chico has had an amazing career playing with the likes of Elvin Jones, McCoy Tyner, Sun Ra, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Celia Cruz, Charles Mingus, Tito Puente, to name a few.  We got to hang with the great musician, composer and producer and get the inside story on working with so many of these icons of music. A naturally gifted musician, San Diego born bassist Darryl Williams began playing bass at the young age of 13. Within two years he was playing at local clubs and events around the San Diego area, which includes opening up for smash RnB group Lakeside. He also played with Gospel Legend Shirley Caesar at age 16. After graduating from high school, Williams did a four-month tour of Japan with other young talented musicians, which he states as being "unforgettable". Upon returning to the States, that same band did a three-month tour opening for soul legend Al Green. After that tour, Darryl enrolled in the Jazz Program at San Diego State University and studied with San Diego legends Gunner Biggs and Rick Helzer. With a hunger to grow musically, he sought out other teachers as well which includes former Miles Davis and John Coltrane bassist Marshall Hawkins, Sarah Vaughn bassist Bob Magnusson, great San Diego bassist Cecil Mcbee Jr. and San Diego sax icon Hollis Gentry III. By age 21, Williams was a regular on the San Diego music scene performing regularly with artist like Hollis Gentry, Evan Marks and Patrick Yandall to name a few. In 1997, Williams moved to Las Vegas and performed regularly at all the prestigious Hotels and Casinos working with headliners and recording artist. One of the artist Williams performed regularly with was Las Vegas Hall Fame inductee Clint Holmes. In 1999, Williams was hired as Musical Director for The International House Of Blues Foundation and continued working with several artist and was involved several recording projects. From 2001 to 2003 he was one of the in house bassists at the world renowned Blue Note Jazz Club in which performed with sax legend Chico Freeman, RnB legend Angela Bofil and was the co-host of the Sunday Night Blue Note Jam Session. Williams was also the second call bassist for Chaka Khan from 2003-2004, which included several performances across the States. From 2003 to 2007 Williams worked with several recording artist in Las Vegas such as Ronnie Foster, Ghalib Ghallab, Tevin Campbell, Clint Holmes, Keith Washington, Skip Martin, Howard Hewitt and many more. In 2008 Williams relocated to California. Upon relocating, he released his first solo CD, “That Was Then” and received high praises from several top smooth jazz writers and dj’s. In a Jazz Times Magazine article dated October 2008, noted jazz writer Brian Soergel says, “ Is there room for another smooth jazz bassist to join the ranks of Wayman Tisdale, Brian Bromberg, Michael Manson and Gerald Veasley? In the case of Darryl Williams the answer is an enthusiastic yes”! Two songs from Williams debut effort were featured on the Weather Channel and can be heard today on Sirius XM radio, Music Choice and international and national radio stations alike. From 2008 to current, Williams has performed or toured with several of the top Contemporary Jazz Artist of today. Some notable names include Euge Groove, Michael Lington, Richard Elliot, Mindi Abair, Jeff Lorber, Peter White, Brenda Russell, Jeff Golub, Paul Brown, Darren Rahn, Jessy J, Everette Harp, Jeff Kashiwa, Eric Darius, "Queen Of Disco" Gloria Gaynor and many more. Presently he serves as the full-time Professor of Choral Activities and Chair of the Music Department at the Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, CA where he directs the College Chorus, Chamber Chorale, and the Gospel Choir. In addition to those responsibilities, he also teaches voice classes, applied vocal lessons, music theory, class piano, musicianship, classical piano and gospel piano. the Fall of 2000, Professor Henderson developed a “Gospel Piano Curriculum”, which was the only collegiate academic course of its type, in the State of California. Glen Pearson has brought sensitivity and expression to the widest variety of music imaginable. His performances on stage, television, radio, and in recording studios have included his well known position as principle keyboardist for Regina Belle, as well as pianist and arranger for such notables as Jimmy Scott, Earnestine Anderson, Melba Moore, Diane Reeves, Marlena Shaw, Bobby Hutcherson, Delfeayo Marsalis, James Moody, Frank Morgan, Chico Freeman, Will Downing and Kevin . Mr. Pearson also served for eleven years as the Musical/Band Director for the World Renowed Boy’s Choir of Harlem.
