And he said well, guess what? That's all you're gonna be. I'm good. I was like, oh, I don't want to just be good. I'll be fucking amazing. Lesley Logan 0:10  Welcome to the Be It Till You See It podcast where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring. I'm Lesley Logan, Pilates instructor and fitness business coach. I've trained thousands of people around the world and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt. My friends, action brings clarity and it's the antidote to fear. Each week, my guest will bring bold, executable, intrinsic and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and Be It Till You See It. It's a practice, not a perfect. Let's get started.  Lesley Logan 0:51  Welcome back to the Be It Till You See It interview recap where my co-host in life, Brad, and I are going to dig into the intentional convo I have with Nick Hiter in our last episode. If you haven't yet listened to that episode you have missed out. Just gonna say it. He's got some quotables (inaudible) talk about in a second.Brad Crowell 1:06  Couple of great nuggets. There was even a point where you said rewind that.Lesley Logan 1:10  I did. I did say rewind that. You know, I'm starting to do that, because people maybe like, oh so good. And if I say rewind, they'll be like, oh, I can do that. (inaudible) Everyone knows how to use technology. And also, you guys, I know, I think I said in our interview, but Nick and I had an amazing conversation on his podcast at Hitstreak, and that episode has been out for over a month. Just the content alone is still getting likes and shares like thousands. So just saying, I was pretty amazing too. But really, he has great questions, and he has a great podcast. You'll want to listen to the Hitstreak. Okay. Today is August 29th 2024 and it's More Herbs Less Salt Day. Enjoy More Herbs Less Salt Day on August 29th by reassessing your sodium intake. We understand that maintaining a balanced, healthy diet is easier said than done, especially since the flavor suffers the most. But healthy eating is no longer bland and boring. Spices and aromatic herbs are a great way to reduce salt in meals and amp up the taste. Your taste buds won't know what they're missing and your body will be grateful. I fucking love a salt lick. So I'm just gonna say right now, like, I'm gonna fail on this day.Brad Crowell 2:13  I put this in here on purpose because Lesley is always like, did you add salt? Did you add salt? Did you add more salt? Can you just add some more?Lesley Logan 2:19  I love. I love salt. You guys, I swear to God, I need a salt lick.Brad Crowell 2:24  Well, we also live in Vegas, and we sweat a lot and you know.Lesley Logan 2:26  Yes. And also, I had tests down where they're like, you could add more salt.Brad Crowell 2:31  Really? Lesley Logan 2:31  Yes. Chris Talley was like, you can eat more salt. I'm ike, tortilla chips with salt. He's like, add salt to the salsa. Yeah, no problem. So anyways, like, just in general, I need more. I think, as I do work out as much as I do, and we do live in Vegas, I'm just sweating. At any rate, there are some great herbs out there, and if you work with Femgevity, you will find out your food sensitivities. Because, hi. Brad Crowell 2:54  Femgevity.Lesley Logan 2:55  Femgevity. Because, like I do, you should use our link—beitpod.com/femgevity—it's spelled like, how you think. Did we find that? Is it basil that I can't have? What's on the list? There was some (inaudible).Brad Crowell 3:06  Basil is on the list I think that you're, well, you're.Lesley Logan 3:09  We love basil. Brad Crowell 3:10  You have a mild, a mild.Lesley Logan 3:11  It's a mild sensitivity.Brad Crowell 3:12  Sensitivity to basil. Lesley Logan 3:14  It's, yeah. And then there was a moderate one that was kind of a bummer as well. We'll have to look at it. (inaudible) It's on the list on the refrigerator, guys. I clearly don't cook, he does and we have a list on the fridge. Brad Crowell 3:24  Well, here's what's super cool. For Cyber Monday, Black Friday, whatever deal one year I got one of those, grow it in your kitchen, little garden situation how in the house, on the counter. And I was like, oh, this is so annoying, because once the thing grows and dies, I gotta buy a whole new pod from them. Well, they're only 10 bucks or 12 bucks for like, six pods. I was like, oh, okay, it's not the end of the world.Lesley Logan 3:50  No, it's way less than buying the herbs that go bad in your fridge. Brad Crowell 3:53  Way less than buying the herbs that go bad in your fridge, way.Lesley Logan 3:57  And the plastic around those herbs.Brad Crowell 4:01  Is the worst, just so much waste. Anyway, what's so fun about that, though, is you could have fresh herbs in your kitchen, just be where basil does take over, and so does mint. Mint takes over. Lesley Logan 4:12  Also, like. Brad Crowell 4:13  No, the mint. Lesley Logan 4:13  Was it the mint? I swear it was a dill, because the dill went first. And I was like, first. It did die first, but we also it grew so fast I'm like, what do I use dill on besides a deviled egg? We're gonna make a pickle. What's happening here? Brad Crowell 4:25  It grew and then it got choked out. Lesley Logan 4:27  But we highly recommend herbs. So if, so, first of all, make sure that you are eating ones that are awesome with your body and your body wants. And second, grow your own because it's better for the environment and for your wallet. Okay, upcoming events and travel. We talked about this before, but if you are a Pilates instructor, my mentorship for 2025 applications are open. How many spots are left? I don't know, we're recording this in advance. So there might be none, but there might be some. And also we can talk about 2026, should it be full? So go to lesleylogan.co/elevate. This is for teachers who are looking for someone to help them connect deeper to the method and really up-level their teaching, their practice, especially their practice, and their connection to the method. It is really a lot of fun. Not only can help build confidence if something you're lacking, but also can actually just really empower you to see what's in front of you and teach the body in front of you. And it just feels freaking awesome when you do that, you change more lives. Cambodia retreat, we are less than six months out for the February Cambodia retreat.Brad Crowell 5:26  Yeah, just under six, just under six. Lesley Logan 5:28  I'm so excited. I love the people who signed up for that one, because we know all of them so far, and it's just going to be a blast. So you are going to be an amazing community. Brad Crowell 5:38  Couple long time members, basically get to hang out with, we're so looking forward to it and you could join us. Lesley Logan 5:44  And you also don't, oh my god, it's like an inside club. It's only if they live here, guys. We've only known them for a while on the internet. So we're gonna it's the same as you. So we want you to come and be part of this family. We do become a family. It's really fun in a non-culty way, and we do really, really fun things. So, crowsnestretreats.com. Brad Crowell 6:01  Yeah. crowsnestretreats.com. Okay, guess what? Lesley Logan 6:05  Tell me.Brad Crowell 6:06  OPC, online Pilates classes.com, has a new thing we're doing, yeah, if you're watching us on YouTube, Lesley is pointing to her OPC hat made by Mindy's closet. OPC has a trial membership that we're offering. 40 days for 40 bucks and you can pick any of the three memberships that we offer, which are based on the equipment you have access to. So if you only have a mat, do our mat membership. If you have a mat and a reformer do that one, if you have a whole studio or access to a whole studio, do the all-equipment one. We're going to go through a couple of things, three things, actually, that three big things that we're going to help unblock you're not going to feel stuck after this. You're going to have a pathway forward after this. Go to prfit.biz/accelerator. That's profit without the O dot B-I-Z slash accelerator. P-R-F-I-T dot biz slash accelerator. And join me for free. All right, but before we get into it with Mr. Nick Hiter, we did have an audience question, and today's was from YouTube. Melissa dash A-X-H-I-L-I-1-L-I whatever it's a lot, we're just gonna say Melissa. Melissa asked Lesley, where did you get your Pilates certification? Lesley Logan 8:04  So this is a really good question. I've been trying to think about, like, what do I want to say? Because if you're asking because you want to go train there, like, my first training program is in some place that I recommend people. So I'm not going to say it, because I don't want to discuss why I wouldn't recommend it. It was a great program. Brad Crowell 8:05  It was 600 hours. Lesley Logan 8:16  It was 600 hours. Brad Crowell 8:20  Certification only. Lesley Logan 8:21  No. Brad Crowell 8:22  No, it's comprehensive.Lesley Logan 8:22  I had a full comprehensive. And I will say, so the thing is, they don't do the training program that I did before. Now they let you do it modulated. So what I experienced wasn't the most amazing experience, but the setup was really successful because they did make me learn how to teach a beginner and an intermediate client at the same time on two different pieces of equipment, which is why I can just teach chaos and I'm safe with that, right? So I did appreciate that, but it left me feeling like I had memorized a lot but didn't know a lot. And so that's where I'll say the second training that I did, which was the Pilates Center out of Boulder Colorado, with Rachel Taylor Segel and Amy Taylor Alpers and their amazing crew. And I do recommend their program to people because it's around the world, and they have host studios everywhere, and they have virtual options. I also do, (inaudible) I do also recommend Equinox's program if you have access to them. It's very robust. They actually have a really great hybrid model of super, super super supportive help, and then also virtual options for comprehensive but that, so the Pilates Center in Boulder was the actual one that I did as my second one. I did their master's program, which was over three years, and that was several 100 more hours, and I was basically living.Brad Crowell 8:28  You were in and out of Boulder all the time. Lesley Logan 9:26  I was in and out of Boulder so much. Brad Crowell 9:37  I was like, what is this Pilates thing and why are they going to Boulder all the time?Lesley Logan 9:40  All the time, like every two weeks I was there.Brad Crowell 9:42  Are you with a cult? Why do you continue to go there?Lesley Logan 9:45  I know. And it was.Brad Crowell 9:46  That's when we first met, y'all. Lesley Logan 9:47  Super fun. Whole Foods and I were best friends every single day. I think at Mod Market, I think was where I had lunch. At any rate. So that was really helpful, because they helped me get rid of trying to correct people all the time. And I actually watched bodies a little bit more, but I still don't know what that meant and I don't really know what I was doing. And then I realized that I lived down the street from Vintage and Jay Grimes studio and Sandy Shimoda and Karen Frischmann, and so I actually studied with them, and all the things I've been looking for all in one place. It gave me a lot of confidence to just like, really enjoy the process and really enjoy what Joseph Pilates created for us. And here's what I'm gonna say, no first program is ever gonna get you what my third program got me like, it's just not possible. It's not a thing. So for those of you who are like looking to become a teacher, grab my book and then find the best program that is accessible to you, that sets you up for the most success, meaning you can teach.Brad Crowell 10:40  Her book is called Profitable Pilates: Everything But the Exercises. And the beginning part of it helps you choose a teacher training program that is going to help you get to where you want to go. So it explains where you could potentially go, and then works backwards from there. It's really great resource.Lesley Logan 10:56  Yeah. And then you'll come take my mentorship when you're ready. And the thing is, is that Jay will always sayBrad Crowell 11:01  The mentorship is for people who are already certified. Right? So first you're gonna go get certified through any of the myriad of training programs, teacher training programs that are out there. After you've gotten your certification, then you can come and do eLevate. Lesley Logan 11:14  Read my book, because I explain, like, what to be really looking for. Because if you take a mat training, then you want to take my mentorship, that doesn't, that doesn't work. If you just do a Reformer, there's you do have to be trained on multiple pieces of equipment, but to put pressure on your first training program to be everything for you isn't fair to you, nor them. However, there are some shitty ones out there, so be careful and read my book and it will explain like, what to look out for. And then here's the thing, Jay would always say, like, you're not really a teacher until you've been teaching for five years, and people can take a lot of offense to that. Of course, if you've only been teaching three years, I'm a teacher. I have full classes. I get that perspective. I have to say, there's also just a lot of confidence that comes with time and with allowing yourself to be curious. And when you've been teaching for five years, you really have kind of seen a lot of things, and you've realized, like, what's important, what's not important, and hopefully you're progressing people at a better pace than you did when you were beginning. But it's, a second training program is probably in your future for most teachers, because you don't, you're not learning how to say words and understand things, so just know that and give yourself permission to not have gotten it all out of the first program because it's hard to get all that out of any first programs. Brad Crowell 12:29  True. Yeah. Well, that's a great question. Melissa, thank you so much for asking. If you have a question, hit us up. You can text us at 310-905-5534, or you can hit us up on the gram or on YouTube or through our customer support anywhere you want. And I'm sure it'll work its way back here to the pod, and you'll be pleasantly surprised when your question surfaces over here. So thanks for that. Stick around, because we're about to dive in to this conversation with Nick Hiter. Brad Crowell 12:59  All right. Now, let's talk about Mr. Nick Hiter, former pro athlete, Nick Hiter is a dedicated husband and father, deeply rooted in his faith. As a seasoned entrepreneur, he co-owns agency, runs a merchant processing company and operates a set of studios and a creative agency in Tennessee. That sounds like a lot. Nick is also involved in digital marketing and manages various affiliate partnerships. Additionally, Nick is the host of the Hitstreak podcast and the voice of a SiriusXM radio station. So he keeps himself, clearly, quite busy, but he obviously has also surrounded himself with quite a team. Lesley Logan 13:36  Yeah, his team is amazing.Brad Crowell 13:36  We had a chance to meet that team, some of that team in person when we were in Nashville I don't remember a couple months back. They were super professional and had everything ready to go. I wasn't even involved in the interview, but they even made me feel like I was a guest on the show, and it was just really awesome. So a big shout out to the guys over there that we had a chance to work with and also Nick for putting together a really great crew, so. Brad Crowell 13:36  I'm gonna jump in. Brad Crowell 13:47  Do it. Lesley Logan 13:49  But I want to just preface like, about to say something that's gonna make somebody go, oh, this episode's not for me. What I'm gonna say after this applies to everything. Okay, see your own shit in the story. Brad Crowell 14:13  See your own shit. Lesley Logan 14:15  Sure. Nick is like, yes, thanks for saying see your own shit. When it comes to my like, like, I don't think he cusses at all. He mentioned digital marketing is massive. He said many people don't do social media, but then blame the algorithm. He talked about like, it's the algorithm you're blaming. He says you have to take ownership of things, because it's the only way you can fix it. And when we place blame on things, we give someone else ownership, and that means you've removed yourself from being part of the solution. So this goes for everything. When you blame other people or other things for why you didn't get something done Brad Crowell 14:46  Or you're not getting clients, or you're not finding teachers, or Lesley Logan 14:51  You've removed yourself from the solution, and there's, I don't even know how you get the solution solved. So I agree. I actually don't ever focus on the algorithm. I don't really care. I just like, let me experiment. What can I put out? And let's see how it lands. And some of the things I'll do really, really well don't do well at all. And some of the things I'm like, this is nothing, a nothing thing, they do really, really well. So here's the thing, social media is actually not about quality, it's about quantity, which is the opposite of Pilates. But also Brad Bizjack was someone who said, we have the ability to be responsible for things. Brad Crowell 14:51  Is that the Brad he kept referencing? Lesley Logan 14:56  I don't know. Brad Crowell 15:21  Because he referenced Brad multiple times. And I was like, did I say something?Lesley Logan 15:31  Yeah, and I wonder if it's Brad Bizjack, because we'll have to ask him, I don't know. But like, people get pissed off when Brad Bizjack would say, like, the things that happened to you you're responsible for, because we have the ability to respond and it allows you to not be a victim of a situation, and allows you to take ownership and lead the change of what you want to see. So I think that goes for social media, but also for anything you want to do. Brad Crowell 15:53  Well, in this case, what he was talking about was the insurance business. So previous to insurance, he and his partner, I want to, I imagine it was his wife, had they were in the clubs, they were promoting, right? So they had a promoting company, and promoting was all about the hustle, connecting, getting in there, meeting people, socializing, and so they were all over the social media game, because they needed to. If you didn't play that game, you did not succeed in the world of promoting. And then when they started their insurance company, they just transitioned that momentum over to doing insurance. And he said it created a massive leg up for them, because at the time, no one else was doing social media in the insurance game. And they slayed, right? And it really set them up to create that foundation. But all that rolls into what I want to talk about, which was he talked about your personal brand, and it being your reputation online. He said he started off as a pro athlete, and it allowed him to get his foot in the door at a lot of different places because of his reputation. But just because he was a pro athlete didn't mean he had an online personal brand. He said, once he they had established the online brand for himself, for Nick Hiter and then was consistently delivering quality content and creating an audience around it, he said at this point, we could launch any business we want and we could leverage the personal brand and roll it into whatever business we wanted to.Lesley Logan 17:20  JLo has gyms, guys, you know that? She's got gyms, like, what's her name? Goldie Hawn's daughter, she's got clothing. She's got making music. Once you have this reputation, people know and trust, they'll follow anything that you're going to do. Brad Crowell 17:34  Yeah, and we tell all of our clients with agency, hey, focus on one thing first. So if you're going to open a Pilates studio, don't also open a yoga studio and a gym and a thing and a whatever, unless you're happening to roll them all into one and they're marketing it as that one thing. But you have to build that foundation first of the one thing, and then from there, once you've created that notoriety, once you've built that trust, then you can, like, introduce speaking gigs or workshop gigs or other things, or start a podcast or do other things. Speaker 1 18:04  I know we meet people all the time, like, I want to have my on-demand membership. I'm going to have a podcast. I want to do a retreat. And I'm like, okay, do you have a team? Do you have money? Because if you don't have both of those things, you can do one of those things very well on your own, but all three not at the same time. Brad Crowell 18:19  Yeah. So with the personal brand, he said, Hey, it's so important to take it seriously. Pretend your personal brand is a company. He said, when life gets busy, it's most often the thing that takes a back seat, and at the end of the day, it is the foundation for anything else that you want to do down the road. So he talked about it the entire show. So it was great. I really appreciated it. He said, It's a commitment. Put your personal brand on a level of importance, just like other things in your life, like family, kids, business. Speaker 1 18:47  I mean, I think that's a, and here's the thing, it's like, do you know what your priorities are? Because I think most people say their priorities are the growth of their business and their family and their kids and their whatever. And then when you look at their schedule, you see it's answering emails, paying the bills, going grocery shopping, so like, make sure that your priorities are really in your schedule, and you can make that commitment. Brad Crowell 19:10  Yeah, love it. Stick around. We're gonna cover those Be It Action Items in just a sec. Brad Crowell 19:13  All right. So finally, let's talk about those, Be It Action Items. What bold, executable, intrinsic or targeted action items can we take away from your convo with Nick Hiter? He said, "Everything you do has got to be done on purpose. The difference between major league pitcher and the little league pitcher is the size target they can hit. The more specific you are with the targets and your goals, the better chances you have of hitting them." Nick explained, he actually had a ton of metaphors and a lot of quotes. I was joking with Lesley earlier, and I said, I think that if you live in Nashville, like when you move in, they just give you a book of quotes because all the Nashville guys that we interview, they rattle off quotes. It's really impressive because they're totally applicable for the moment. But I'm like, I don't have that in my what is, I need more, I need quotes from Wayne Gretzky like he quoted at the very end. He said, you don't win the championship by accident, you choose it, and that was the goal that you wanted. So you do the work. In fact, the quote he said was just the Gretzky quote is, "You win the game before you even step on the ice." Right? And I was like, wow. Mindset, powerful confidence. I've got this. That's amazing to me. I mean, everything you do has got to be on purpose. So love it. What about you? Lesley Logan 20:27  Well, more quotes. He quoted Bruce Lee. Brad Crowell 20:30  He did. He also quoted Bruce Lee. Lesley Logan 20:31  By the way, I did a Bruce Lee exercise today in my Pilates session, because this other guy from Korea did it and I was like, and my teacher, Ken, was like, oh, Lesley, you could do that. And I was like, I, I'm gonna do it, obviously. And you know what, guys, I hadn't done it in like, 10 years, and I fucking did it. Brad Crowell 20:31  Nice. Lesley Logan 20:47  So we're channeling Bruce Lee today. Brad Crowell 20:49  We're channeling.Lesley Logan 20:50  He said, "You're casting spells on yourself with the words that you say." So when people ask Nick how he's doing, his response is, "I'm unstoppable."Brad Crowell 20:58  I'm unstoppable. Talk about an amazing response. Lesley Logan 21:02  Yes, I'm unstoppable. And by the way, it does make me think of Cafe Gratitude. It's like, I'm gonna honor the unstoppable bowl. And when they bring it to you, they're like, you are unstoppable.Brad Crowell 21:12  I mean, I made this decision a long time ago. When people ask me, what do I say? Lesley Logan 21:17  I'm amazing. Brad Crowell 21:17  I'm amazing. Yeah. Lesley Logan 21:19  You probably should stop saying when people say, what are you up to? You have to stop saying, "Drugs."Brad Crowell 21:23  Oh, maybe I have to stop saying drugs. Brad Crowell 21:25  You are casting a spell on yourself. Brad Crowell 21:26  That's been my quote for 25 years or my joke for 25 years. Lesley Logan 21:28  I know and people don't think that. They don't know that you're joking. They think that you're serious. Brad Crowell 21:32  So, what do you do? I used to just say drugs. Lesley Logan 21:34  Yeah. What do you do for a living? It's like, drugs. And like, they just stop, now, because they, now peopleBrad Crowell 21:40  Yeah, now they're like, can, can you? Is he? Lesley Logan 21:41  Well, because now so many drugs are legal, they think it's true. So like, you gotta, you have to come up with something better, because you're casting spells on yourself, and it's not good. Okay. He says at enough times he actually believes that everything takes repetition. And he talked about when people ask most people say, "I'm good." And he said, "Well, guess what? That's all you're gonna be." I'm good. I was like, oh, I don't want to just be good. I'll be fucking amazing. Brad Crowell 22:05  Yeah, I want to be unstoppable. Lesley Logan 22:07  Yeah, yeah. So, you know, everyone, just start looking up different—are those adjectives? What's unstoppable? Is that a verb? Brad Crowell 22:12  I have no idea.Lesley Logan 22:12  Is it an adverb? You guys, I cheated all through English class, so I'm just gonna tell you right now. I will never know. Sometimes I don't really know the differences semicolon and a colon. So. Brad Crowell 22:12  It's an adjective. Lesley Logan 22:14  It's an adjective. Well, look at me. I was around the first I should have just trusted myself. I should just had the confidence to just go, "It's an adjective." At any rate, you guys just look up adjectives and then pull out five that strike your fancy and try them on and say them enough times—you'll believe them. I'm Lesley Logan. Brad Crowell 22:46  And I'm Brad Crowell. Lesley Logan 22:46  Thank you so much for listening to us today. This is amazing. I hope if you haven't yet listened to Nick.Brad Crowell 22:51  This is unstoppable. Lesley Logan 22:52  It's unstoppable. You know what this is? It's fucking awesome. You can't just assume they know best. You know your body best so you have got to advocate for yourself. And then you have to ask them. Can you explain why this is happening? Well, can you explain why we're doing this? Can you answer this? They have, when they're in the room with you, they cannot leave until you're done. If they say do you have any questions, and you ask questions, they can't walk away from you.Welcome to the Be It Till You See It podcast where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring. My friends, action brings clarity and it's the antidote to fear. Each week, my guest will bring bold, executable, intrinsic and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and Be It Till You See It. It's a practice, not a perfect. Let's get started.Welcome back to the Be It Till You See It Interview Recap where my co-host in life Brad and I are going to dig into the solution-driven convo I have with L Ross in our last episode. If you haven't yet. Listen to that one. Feel free to pause this now. Go back and listen. And then come back and join us here. The thing about LRS you guys I can never I can barely keep her under an hour. She is going to teach you everything she knows about the topic. This has me fired up about it. (She is a strong) if not solution-driven, she is passionate. Brad Crowell 2:02  Oh yeah. And at one point she was close to tears. Lesley Logan 2:07  I know. Brad Crowell 2:07  Talking about her clients.Lesley Logan 2:09  I know. I know. So if you haven't listened to our first episode on confidence, you should go listen that it's full of honesty. And then this one was on thyroid because those are actually the two topics that she coaches on. And she's helped a lot of people in both places.Brad Crowell 2:22  Yes, she interestingly enough, wrote a book about uninformed doctors. Yeah, that is very famous. Yeah. So huge. Yeah.Lesley Logan 2:29  Before we get into that, yeah, todayBrad Crowell 2:33  Is Thursday, August 24. Lesley Logan 2:39  Is it a special holiday?Brad Crowell 2:41  Oh, it might be.It is Thursday, August 24. Lesley Logan 2:51  Let's see what the first thing is to come out.Brad Crowell 2:53  All right. The 24th. Let's go to the 24th. We're looking at International Strange Music Day or hold on my computer.Lesley Logan 3:04  Kobe Bryant Day. He died on my Brad Crowell 3:07  National Cuban Sandwich Day. It's National Coconut Week.Lesley Logan 3:13  A whole week for coconuts?A whole week for coconuts. Oh my god today was the day Pluto was demoted. Brad Crowell 3:19  Demoted? Oh, it's no longer a planet.Lesley Logan 3:21  Yeah, but you know what? In astrology that's not true. So I think the scientists got it wrong.Brad Crowell 3:27  National Ride the Wind Day.Lesley Logan 3:29  And then shout out because it is Ukrainian Independence Day. And at this time, they're still fighting for it. So anyways, wow.Brad Crowell 3:37  It's also International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition. (Oh, wow.) I think is a pretty important one. Lesley Logan 3:43  I think that's an important one. Where are you seeing that? That's not on mine. Brad Crowell 3:46  August 24. Nationaltoday.com y'all. (I'm looking at it.) in case you're wondering.Lesley Logan 3:52  I just didn't see that one. Well, I'm glad we brought it up. That's great. So we had a lot of holidays. Say today it's a big day in the whole world. It's a big, we didn't even talk about how it's National Danny day, which is like, so strange. So it's a day for Danny. You tell us which day you're celebrating today. We'd love to hear it. Also, we just got back from our West Coast tour.Brad Crowell 4:14  Holy cow. What a ride.Lesley Logan 4:16  Oh my god, bigger than honestly, like bigger than ever bigger than anything.Brad Crowell 4:23  3000 miles, 12 cities 20,000 miles,No just over 3. Twelve cities, 22 orLesley Logan 4:33  24 classes and workshopsBrad Crowell 4:35  Yeah. Classes and workshops.Lesley Logan 4:36  And hundreds of people, hundreds of hundreds of peopleBrad Crowell 4:41  Tons of decks. Lots of dogs. Lesley Logan 4:43  Big thanks to our big headlining sponsor Balanced Body. We could not have made this tour as big without you. You probably saw our tour van if you are living in the state of California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, and you saw what looks like the funnest van in the world. Hi, that was us.Brad Crowell 5:02  Yeah. And if you're wondering what we're talking about, just go to Leslie's Instagram account at Lesley.Logan, you'll see lots of pictures and video of it.Lesley Logan 5:11  Yeah. So we're back. Brad Crowell 5:12  It was, it was awesome.Lesley Logan 5:13  I'm so excited. We were already in our bed, we sleep in the van, it's our bed, but we have a different bed at home. It's bigger. And I'm so excited for that. I'm also like, I do cold showers in the morning when I'm at home, and I could not do them on the tour. So I'm just grateful for my cold showers to wake me up and the wonderful normal dog walks that we do. It's just kind of nice when you know all the areas that you're doing.Brad Crowell 5:35  Good to be on a routine. Yeah, but we love the tour. We'll be back out on tour soon. In fact, I'm actually leaving in a few days to go to Poland, the ControlLogix Conference in Poland. (That's right.) So that's really exciting. And then when I come back from that we're actually doing Agency Mini number nine, which is our coaching group's seven-day program, you can actually sign up for it right now at profitablepilates.com/mini. That's profitable pilates dot com slash M-I-N-I. This is like a not to miss you guys. We only run it twice a year, we are tempted to only run it once a year. We don't know when that's going to happen. But I'm threatening you because it's something that's on our mind. We'd like to be transparent. I like to be honest. (Yeah) it is the last time we're running it this year. We probably won't run it again until February I think?February, March. It's not really figured out yet. So roughly six months. Lesley Logan 6:22  Um, so you want to do that if you are wanting to get any questions answered on your business around your service based business, whether you're running online or brick and mortar, y'all we help people make the money that they want to make. And it doesn't, it's not like we're all about whatever, like just making millions of dollars, we help you make the money you want to make. And one of the my favorite things I got a DM from our agency members been with us for years, she sent me a DM after biome was set. And she just said, I just wanted to reach out to you because I know you went through a lot, I want to let you know that it's because of you that I can provide for my family. I can take vacations when I want to take them with my family. And I can do that without worrying about my business. And I'm making the money I want to make. So that's because she did a mini and she trusted us about this for years. And she's wanted to have a home studio that would allow her to provide for her family and not work when they were off. So we did that for her, which is amazing. Okay, then well.Brad Crowell 7:16  And here's the deal. Lesley Logan 7:18  What's the deal? Brad Crowell 7:19  The deal is that this one is going to be one of our coolest ones yet. Each time we make an extra time we run mini we have a recap afterwards. And we just figure out like, how can we make it even better? And this time, we're doing some really cool stuff. And so actually, you can literally sign up today. So yeah, do go to profitablepilates.com/miniLesley Logan 7:43  Yeah. And then, after mini is over, we hang out with our new members and our old members, and we have a lot of fun. And then we go to Cambodia. Yeah. And this is so excited. We're going to be Cambodia for a while, because we have our retreat. And then we have someone renting out our space to rent their retreat. So yeah, that is the coolest.Brad Crowell 8:03  Yeah. So you know, the dream when we decided to get our own place, you know, there in 2018. Geez, was that someday, it would just be a full-time retreat space. And obviously, we're not taking retreats every week. But we could open that place up and offer our program and let other people fill in the blanks with their teaching. And we're doing that finally. So this is a dream come true for us. We've been talking about this for a very long time. And basically, I'm just excited that it's beginning. If you've ever wanted to run a retreat, and you're trying to figure out where and how and all the logistics and all the complications. That's exactly what we figured out. So just reach out to us and we can have a conversation, maybe we can figure out how you could take your group to an amazing place that is fun, safe, beautiful. Just like it's a bucket list for everyone that I've ever talked to everyone goes holy cow, I'd love to go there. And you know, that's why we picked that spot. So yeah, anyway, if you're in Southeast Asia, it's like a month away at this point, or I guess it's the end of August. So you know, we're going the beginning of October for our group. And you know, you could still join us, there's still some room. Otherwise, get yourself on the waitlist. And we'll tell you about next year's retreat.Lesley Logan 9:23  Yeah. And then, and then we come back and then I go to Chicago and I'm teaching at a club place in Chicago with a request at this point (that's in November) it's in November at this point, you just have to DME if that's what you're interested in, because we don't actually have anything up at the time of this is dropping, but it will be spaced that's limited because we can only have so many people per workshop. It's my first time teaching Chicago in a year, but also my first time teaching in a Chicago studio. Not on a conference in like five years. So excited. And then December go on the winter tour. So everything we just did. We're doing it again in the winter and because Balanced Body is our sponsor, you can best believe it's going to be fucking huge.Brad Crowell 10:04  Yeah, it's gonna be a little more spread out just because it's like probably five to 6000 miles instead of three. And, you know, we're going to be doing the loop as y'all know. So, anyway.Lesley Logan 10:17  And actually, because our audience question has to do with the winter tour, we can just dive into it. Brad Crowell 10:22  Yeah, let's just do that. Lesley Logan 10:23  I have been getting a ton of DMS. And really this question is because I don't know how to answer it. So the questions I've been getting is people putting in the DMS their city, and then asking how to get their city on the winter tour on a tour. And so we have lots of people in Florida, which y'all you have to understand what that means. You're asking us to do, you're asking us to go from Philly and drive into Florida and do you know how long Florida is so long? We've done it before. But I'm not saying we won't do it. I'm just saying it's a lot. And so where what should people do, babe? If they want their city on a tour? Well, I say the winter tour because like if you could be on the winter tour, but you could be on next year summer tour. So like, where should people like submit their city for a tour? Stop?Brad Crowell 11:12  Yeah, I just wanted to say it's a 17-hour drive from Philly to Miami. Lesley Logan 11:17  Yeah, we've done it. I remember I experienced it. Brad Crowell 11:20  So here's, here's what you do. We have an amazing team, who has figured out a whole conversation that has been repeated a few times here. So if you're interested in being a host, you could be in Canada, you could be in United States, we're figuring out these roads, you know what this could look like in the future? Hell, maybe even Mexico? I don't know.Lesley Logan 11:41  Oh, my God. Well, I might be talking about that. Yes, I would love Brad Crowell 11:45  Anyway, if you have a studio and you're interested in hosting, just chat to us go to opc.me/chat. And we will start the conversation with you and figure out you know, what makes sense when it might not be now it could be next year? It could be you know, whatever. I don't know, we haven't figured it out yet. But we are just taking note, if you want us to stop by.Lesley Logan 12:06  You should do it now because we actually are going to pick our winter tour cities in September. Because we have because we'll be in Cambodia in October. So put those in and and also just know that like you will be the host and you'll be promoting it and we will be helping you. So as much as we want to come to your space. If you also don't like to fill things then maybe submit someone else's space that you'll go to. I'm just being honest. But we're so it's just gonna be a ton of fun. It's gonna be amazing.Brad Crowell 13:00  Okay, now let's talk about Elle Russ. Bestselling author and renowned authority in thyroid health who's transformed her personal health struggles into a decade-long mission to support and educate others around the world. We are so excited to have brought Elle Russ back to the pod to talk about thyroid health, something that she's incredibly passionate about. Lesley Logan 14:31  Yeah, she is and I when she and I first invited her on the podcast, I thought we could talk about both competence and thyroid health but no, we could not. And so I'm glad we did two separate episodes. And I am I'm actually having a lot of fun because at this point in Episode 254 We keep bringing different people back because there's like more conversations to have with some of those people and I just I love it because I can get deeper into it. Anyways, that was just side by side story. Okay, I actually really loved that she wrote about how thyroid issues are fixable and solvable because I I have met many people on my journey in life. And I even had a doctor who was worried about my thyroid, and they made it seem like that was not a death sentence that's so dramatic, but like, it's a period. Done. It's like a statue.Brad Crowell 15:14  It's like congratulations, you have it. And now you have to deal with it forever. Yeah. And I really loved that she has been on this mission. And she talked about that it's achievable for every single person's thyroid problem to like, solve this issue. And I think that's really amazing. I wish more doctors knew about that. And she said that there's two reasons you might be suffering. You're either dealing with an uninformed doctor Who doesn't know how to test that yet, or you're uninformed, and you don't know about your disease. And I think like, both of those can come off really strong. But what I what I do know even as a Pilates teacher who teaches Pilates like off like, just even though I'm just teaching Pilates, like there are uninformed teachers out there, and there are people who are uninformed about the movement and capabilities of our bodies, it's the same thing in this situation. And so what we have tried to do on this podcast is bring different people on who talk and advocate about, they promote how you should advocate for yourself. And I think part of being it till we see it is not just like, pushing and procrastinating our health issues, because they keep it keep us from showing up as our best versions of ourselves, and also advocating for a doctor who listens to us. And that those two things, you could actually have both of these things, you could be uninformed and be with the doctors uninformed.Lesley Logan 16:29  Yeah, I wanted to I had another comment. You know, I grew up with a dog who had thyroid problems, and I we need to give him medicine for like, every day for the rest of his life.Brad Crowell 16:40  From the age of six I just thought that like, once you had a thyroid problem, you were you always had a thyroid problem. That was it. And then my mom. She always had like low iron and stuff. And then later in life, she has hypo and hyperthyroidism. Lesley Logan 17:26  She has both?Brad Crowell 17:26  She has both.Lesley Logan 17:29  How's that even possible? That's so crazy.Brad Crowell 17:31  I couldn't tell you, I don't really understand it. And I think that's exactly the problem, right? And from my perspective, then my mom is just going to have something she's gonna have to deal with this for the rest of her life. And so it's kind of amazing that, you know, she's suggesting that you can, these are solvable problems.Lesley Logan 17:48  Yeah. And I obviously like if you don't have a thyroid anymore, of course, you have something to deal with rest of your life. But if you have one, yeah, it can be surgically removed. And if you have one and you are struggling to keep things the way that makes you feel like the best version of yourself. What we are suggesting is that you go and get second opinions, get some help find people who are specialists in this who actually believe that there's another possibility. And I think that's really important. Like we didn't talk about this on Elle Russ podcast, but I remember many, many years ago, I was going through my own health stuff, listen to a couple different doctors. One was like the Plant Paradox. He wrote this book. He's a doctor, and he used food to heal people's heart conditions and things like that. And then the other one is Undoctored. And he wrote, I think he wrote brain, brain, brain, brain, brain brain. Anyways, probably green brain. And he also wrote the book Undoctored and he is a doctor who is like, key actually, the way I understand his story was a he was diagnosed with diabetes. And he's like, that's so crazy. I'm like, eating what the medical school taught me it was like nutrition, and there are 15 hours of nutrition that they taught me. And he had diabetes. And so he actually did some work. And he reversed his diabetes diagnosis, and the doctor's response was, oh, maybe it was a misdiagnosis. The doctor wasn't curious as to how he did it. And so you know.Brad Crowell 19:13  I think he wrote Wheat Belly.Lesley Logan 19:15  Wheat Belly. Sure. Super close. Great. Brad Crowell 19:18  Super Gut. Wheat Belly. Undoctored.Lesley Logan 19:20  Yes, yes. Brad Crowell 19:21  Rich food. Poor food. Lesley Logan 19:23  Yes. Brad Crowell 19:23  Nice. Lesley Logan 19:23  So he, what is interesting about that situation is there in life people, there's every person and there are people in every profession who just like this is that this is the way things are, that's how it goes. And then there are people who are like, hold on, why is it like that. And there's curiosity. And then I like to teach the people who study with me is like to be curious, and I want to be with doctors who are curious. Brad Crowell 19:47  Yeah, I like I had mixed emotions listening to this. You know, because I guess culturally and just in my own life we've been raised to trust our doctors, the doctor says a thing than we do the thing, you know. However, having gone through college with a guy who was studying medicine, and just kind of seeing it from that perspective, it made me realize that it's it's a, it's sometimes a process of elimination. It's sometimes, like, it's almost like its own art form. But you have to be incredibly informed, to be able to, you know, diagnose and certain people focus on different things, right? So there's just so fucking much that a doctor could learn about that if you go to someone who didn't really dig into whatever it is that you need to talk to them about. They may not be the correct person. And so they might just not know. Right? And I think that when you look at it, that way, you'll go find a doctor who specializes in the thing, so that you can talk to someone who is the most informed about it.Lesley Logan 21:03  And I just want to say this other thing, because I know that it can sound like I get a little harsh about doctors and, and also compelling elegance, little harsh about doctors. Yeah, I just heard an incredible podcast on New York Times, it was a Sunday read podcast, and it was about like dirty jobs. And like, as they call it, dirty jobs. Anyways, it was about, somebody had a segment where they would like talk about these, like, dangerous jobs that like, people were dying to do them. And somebody was, and he was doing, like, obviously, coal miners, and like, all these different things that like, probably most evil listeners would not sign up for. And someone reached out and said, hey, I know this is gonna sound crazy, but you should probably do a whole thing on doctors. And the author was like, Are you kidding? Who cares about them? They make a ton of money. They're like, they're, like, all the stuff that he's like, No, I think that if you do some research, you're gonna find this out. And the reality is, is that because of the way our especially in the US, so this is, if you're a listener in a different country, you might have a whole different experience when it comes to thyroid and medical stuff. And I would love to hear about that. But especially in the US, because hospitals are for profit, because insurance is for profit, and everybody is going over the bottom line. Doctors don't get the kid's been seven minutes with you. So it's not even that they're uninformed. Yeah, they might be just purely have no time. And then there's, they have all this pressure of going to hospital to do certain things in certain amounts of time. And everybody is stressed out. And really what's happened in the medical industry is like, actually, a lot of doctors have high suicide rate. Yeah, a lot of them have really high amounts of depression, which, you know, you would not think about these things. So listen to that podcast, because it gave me a little bit more of a perspective, like, holy fuck, they might be doing the best they can. And it's never going to be good enough, because the actual system doesn't allow them to have the time for it to be good enough. So a lot of doctors switch into taking no insurance and being paid cash. Yeah. But that's even exhausting, because you have to find people who can afford that. So it's just like, that's, that's if that make you feel happy. So, you know, I think it's like, we're in this system, where everybody is at a thing. And I just want to remind you, it is called a medical practice. And I think that even the medical world has forgotten that. It is a medical practice they're a doctor practicing medicine, just like you practice Pilates, no one is ever going, like, I just want to put that word finished. They're not finished. SoBrad Crowell 23:34  And they shouldn't be finished. I think that I think that's one of the things that, that, you know, bringing this back to Elle, you know, she was talking about curiosity, and you just mentioned finding a doctor who is constantly staying informed, you know, because of a lack of time, because of the situations that they're in. You know, there's, it's really important that you and, you know, you and your doctor are both really digging into your specific, you know, what is happening in your body. And I think, you know, like, like, you know, just one more comment on this. And I think we can move on. From my perspective, having been around you, Lesley, and seeing the amazing I am, yes, the amazingness that you are and your beautiful hair. When you went to see some of the best doctors in the UCLA system. And they were like, I don't fucking know what's wrong with you. That was shocking to me. Like, what do you mean, you don't know what's wrong with her? How is that even possible? And they're like, maybe you have AIDS, and they sent you to a fucking weird ward. I mean, it was crazy. And you know what that doctor said to me? Why are you here? Lesley Logan 24:41  She asked me, she said, I have two questions for you. Do you know why your doctor sent you here? And are you happy with that service? She she had a moment where she is a human being and she was like, I don't know why this patient is here and she asked me to stay which is so crazy to me. And I said, I'm not happy with my service. I don't know why I'm here. And she said, there's nothing wrong with you that I can help you with. Right. And that's when I went to a different I went to Chris Talley, who's not even a doctor. And he figured I was wrong me,Brad Crowell 25:14  I think he's a doctor. Lesley Logan 25:16  Is he a doctor?Brad Crowell 25:16  Definitely a doctor. Lesley Logan 25:17  Sorry, Chris. Brad Crowell 25:20  But anyway, the point is that, you know, when you know, you, I think you shared in the, in the interview, you actually shared about your experience when we moved to Vegas, about a woman who just wrote off the things that you were asking her to do, and didn't acknowledge anything that you are discussing with her. And that sucks. And that's ridiculous. And if you end up finding yourself in a situation like that, this is where you can advocate for yourself, you need to advocate for yourself, and find a different doctor, find someone who will listen to you who can understand the situation, and then, you know, work with you on the thing, because it's a puzzle.Lesley Logan 25:56  I mean, you're totally you're, I think you're like leaning into your own favorite parts here, because it is a puzzle. And you have to advocate for yourself.Brad Crowell 26:04  And in order for you to do that. Just to finish up your point, you have to understand it yourself, too. Right. So I think that if you've been diagnosed with hyper, or hypo or whatever, thyroid, I don't even know all the things. It's important that you dig in yourself, right? And that's one thing that's so cool, is the reason that Elle Russ is so passionate is because she suffered for years. And she felt herself changed from like, intense athlete to bumping into shit. And she's like, what is happening to me, and then she just wasn't satisfied with the diagnosis. She got just like what, like, this doesn't make sense. And that sent her down this path, right. And now today, she's decided this is her mission is to really help people educate themselves. So she has this really nice course that you can go in the show notes and check it out. But moving into the thing that I love that she said is that it is super important for you as a patient to be proactive about your health, especially in advocating for correct tests. Okay. Now, this is really interesting to me, because I don't, I don't actually I'm not a I don't know this, I don't know anything about these specific tests. But But Elle listed these six tests, if you're, if you are suffering with thyroid issues, she said it says th t sh, a free T three a free T for a reverse T three, those are the main four. And then there was one called a T P O antibiotic antibody, and then a TG antibody. And the balance of the conversation after that was about the struggle to actually get the doctors to run these tests. Because they you know, what, what Elle has experienced with her clients is that they go in, they asked for these tests, and the doctor say I'm gonna run the tests, and then the results come back and they didn't fucking run the tests. Lesley Logan 27:49  Well, because they ran just like one test, or they run a combine, they don't run them separately. And I actually sent her my most recent blood results, because I didn't have all these tests run. I wasn't really aware that a had thyroid thing, but I sent her what I had. And then I had another person look at them, plus my own doctor who I love and trust. And all of them agreed upon the same thing. So like everything is good with my thyroid. But it's, that's what second opinions are for.Brad Crowell 28:15  Yeah, so it's important to get a second opinion. And also she even said something that was kind of off the cuff. And it wasn't really discussed. She said, if you're familiar with what a phlebotomist is, a phlebotomist is the person drawing your blood. So she actually said, ask your doctor for these things. And she clearly has a distrust for doctors. So she said, then when before the phlebotomist even sticks the needle in your arm, ask him if these tests are available to be to be run on your blood from this place. And if they say no, then don't even get your blood drawn. And I thought that's interesting, right? Because the phlebotomist is probably more junior, they're newer to the team. They you know, and whatever. So they're not going they also will be able to give you a lot more of their time, to be honest. Yeah. Typically,Lesley Logan 29:03  When we work with Chris Talley, the phlebotomist came to my house.Brad Crowell 29:07  Yeah, yeah. So anyway, I thought that was really interesting, you know, and she said that sometimes the doctors just think that you're, you know, an ignoramus. And they're like, I know better. And I'm not gonna run the test you just asked me to do, she's talking about other times where they actually put it down, but then it just doesn't happen.Lesley Logan 29:25  You know, here's the thing, like, remember that going back to the doctor who I asked these tests for, and she was like, just like blew me off was like, hormones change throughout the day. So it's not even going to matter. Like, it's not going to give us anything. Well, my doctor ran my hormones. And then she asked me, what part of your cycle were you on when this was run? And I could tell her what day of my cycle I was on, and she could look at the test, knowing what part of my cycle is on and go and say, okay, these numbers make sense based on that there are doctors out there who can do this. Yeah, it just requires it's exhausting because we have so much to do. And I know because I had like, a member, an agency who like was hoping the lawyer would just do the thing. And she's like, I don't know, I don't know. It's like, everything is a collaboration, whether you're working with your doctor, whether you're working with a pilates instructor, whether with a business coach or even a lawyer. You can't just assume they know best. You know your body best so you have got to advocate for yourself. And then you have to ask them. Can you explain why this is happening? Well, can you explain why we're doing this? Can you answer this? They have, when they're in the room with you, they cannot leave until you're done. If they say do you have any questions, and you ask questions, they can't walk away from you. (Right.) So it is okay. And ladies, especially, especially all of you, you must be okay, asking those questions, because I know I'm not. I know I'm like, I don't want to take up your time. I don't want to waste your time. I don't want to, you know, I don't want to be rude. No, it's your fucking body. Your fucking life.Brad Crowell 30:50  I ask all the questions. This fucking guy.Lesley Logan 30:53  Yeah, he does. He's in there for half an hour. Anyway. Be like Brad.Brad Crowell 30:57  Yeah. All right, be like Brad. All right. Finally, let's talk about those Be It Action Items. What bold, executable intrinsic or targeted action items, can we take away from your combo with Elle Russ. She said spread the word. You know, when you heal from something like she has, you know, or you gain some knowledge about something that's impacted you. It's important to actually talk about it and share that with other people. Help someone who's suffering with that same thing. And obviously, you're not, you know, a doctor or someone who has spent years studying the thing. And that's okay, so do your best. Point them in the right direction. And she said you don't have to coach everyone, but you can help people out.Lesley Logan 31:57  August agrees that was that shake in the background? What about you? Um, she said perseverance pays. And I couldn't agree more. It means never give up. If there's something wrong with your health, you do not stop until you have felt you have a satisfying answer. Unfortunately, some things take us years to even understand that it's going wrong. Brad Crowell 32:15  I mean, some things are your road has has been more than 10 years now. Lesley Logan 32:20  Yep, yep. And I mean, at least I'm not in pain every day, and at least I'm not forgetting things anymore. And I'm not walking into walls. And but that's amazing. Brad Crowell 32:30  And you're sleeping.Lesley Logan 32:31  I am sleeping. I actually sleep more than I sleep six hours a day, I'm trying to get up to seven and a half without waking up in the middle of it. We're working on it. We got to six though, so that's great. But it's whatever glad you hear probably didn't happen overnight. It's probably years of in the making. And so you have to also understand that the fix is probably not gonna be overnight, right? But you should feel like your people on your team are listening to you. And so you keep going until you find people on your team who will listen to you. You owe it to yourself, you owe it to the people who are in your life, you owe it to your family, I don't care if you have no kids and no partner. You owe it to all those people who love you. Because you are the only person to do what you do the way you do it. So anyways, I that's that's her Be It actually, that I love, and I couldn't agree more.I'm Lesley Logan. Brad Crowell 33:21  And I'm Brad Crowell.Lesley Logan 33:22  Thank you so much for joining us today. Whatever you want to do.Brad Crowell  A little bit of this. A little bit of that.Lesley Logan  Yeah, something like that. Maybe listen to the whole of both, though.Brad Crowell  I listen to this. I listen to that.Lesley Logan  Because otherwise it doesn't make sense. If you listen to like one half of this and then one half of that. I mean, maybe ... (Brad: Maybe you just mash them up.) I guess you could do like the last half of this and the last half of that and the first, no, it'd be boring. You would know anything to just do it, just do it. Listen on both. Anyway, okay, y'all.Brad Crowell  Happy Birthday Lesley! The big 40!Lesley Logan  Yeah. Oh my goodness, I finally get to wear my Bee in the Fox. It took me '40 years to look this good' shirt.Brad Crowell  Yeah, today is the day.Lesley Logan  Today is the day. Yes, I am an Aquarius. And I know that you probably should know that if you didn't know that already. Some people already can tell and some people know because I think I'm pretty good at not sounding like an Aquarius and then I don't know my keys are but I can tell you where I put your keys. Sometimes. Anyways, it is my birthday. Thank you all so very much. It is also what probably started the big controversy my parents marriage of why my name is my name and my my mother sometimes still suggest I can change it if I want to.Brad Crowell  Oh, I like your name. I'm glad your name is your name.Lesley Logan  Thank you. (Brad: You're welcome.) That's a good one. Everyone, you know what I will say about my name is my clients when they wrote checks because that's how long I've been teaching Pilates. But back in the day before I took checks. In my studio, I had these clients like, "I just love writing your name while writing this check." I'm like, "That's great." You ...Brad Crowell  You keep loving doing that.Lesley Logan  You keep loving writing my name on that check. Anyways, um, so yeah, so um, you know, it's my birthday. But more importantly, there's some fun things happening over OPC.Brad Crowell  Yeah, we're celebrating over there. We got a big 40% off a whole bunch of things for the big 40 ...Lesley Logan  That's so cool. That's amazing. (Brad: Yeah.) So go do that.Brad Crowell  Yeah, just go over to onlinepilatesclasses.com. And it'll be right there on the homepage.Lesley Logan  Wonderful. Well, and also listen to some ads, because there was one other thing I was hoping we're also doing for my birthday. But you didn't mention it. So now I don't know. (Brad: Uh-oh.) Okay. Are we doing 40 days for $40?Brad Crowell  Oh, yeah, it's just the whole 40s. (Lesley: Oh, there's a whole ...) ... everything (Lesley: Oh, okay.) 40Lesley Logan  So there's a lot of things happening with your ... (Brad: These things available.) Yeah, most little things available with with 40 somewhere with a percent or $ sign next to it. So go have fun. Over it onlinepilatesclasses.com. Okay, then. This is like actually, there's like, literally three days not even. If you are listening to the day it drops, Hi. I love that you're like you're on top of it. (Brad: Yeah. Pay attention.) But get on over to profitablepilates.com/mini. If you have not done it with us before, and you would like us to coach you on your business because we kick off on Sunday. (Brad: Yep.) The door is closed. We don't let you in. Do not beg me on Monday. It'll be it'll just feel overwhelmed. We don't do it. You gotta sign up.,Brad Crowell  Get in. This is a week long experience of our ongoing coaching program. We're going to help you clarify your business offerings and it's going to change the way you look at your business. It is going to make things so much more fun. (Lesley: Yeah) You're gonna have permission to say, "Sorry, I don't ... you know maybe I'm not the right teacher for you. You know, but I can introduce you to someone else who is because you know who you're for, why you're doing what you're doing, what you should be charging, all the things."Lesley Logan  We had one of our pro members, share a win today. It said, I had my boundaries tested three times this week. (Brad: Wow!) Each time got harder and harder to uphold them. But I have held them and I'm so grateful because I cannot teach that late. I cannot teach that early and I cannot teach on my day off. (Brad: Amazing.) And you know like that and she can do that because she knows and trust that she's training her clients how to treat her, (Brad: Yeah.) when to show up, how to treat themselves, how to protect their own schedule.Brad Crowell  She knows her numbers. (Lesley: Yeah.) Or not she actually needs to take those sessions or if it's just like that big question mark of, "Am I making enough money? I don't know." So, yeah. (Lesley: Yeah.) That's amazing.Lesley Logan  Yeah. So and if you're not a fitness instructor, share it with a fitness instructor, you know, because they could use some help.Brad Crowell  Yeah, profitablepilates.com/mini.Lesley Logan  Okay, before we get into Jessica Brothers. What is our audience question?Brad Crowell  I love this question asked this anytime. When is your next retreat?Lesley Logan  Yeah. So I got this question from someone who was visiting our friend Joel, actually. (Brad: Oh cool.) Yeah. And so yeah, our retreat came up. And like, "When is it?" And I said, "It is actually coming up." I believe, correct me if I'm wrong, October 8 through the 13th of 2023. That is this year, October 8 through the 13th. I am so excited. (Brad: Yeah.) It's gonna be a lot of fun. We're only doing one Cambodia retreat this year. We're not doing any other retreats this year. This is the only retreat we're doing.Brad Crowell  We're not doing a business retreat in Vegas. We did a two of those last year. We are usually we do two trips to Cambodia. But this year, we are only doing one. (Lesley: Yeah.) And so you can you're more than welcome to join us. We, there is limited room. So you know, don't wait on this. But the, yeahLesley Logan  The doors are open. You can sign up now.Brad Crowell  Yeah, just go to lesleylogan.co/retreat. (Lesley: Yeah.) lesleylogan.co/retreat. We are we have had many spouses join who don't do Pilates, they just want to go for the experience, we are offering that as well. So there's like all things you can totally come with your partner and have an amazing time and enjoy the experience. And you can do the workshops and the blogs and the meditation and things like that, where if that's not their jam, that's okay.Lesley Logan  Yeah, we've got we got an option for them, and they can go off and do a cooking class or get a massage or something like that. So (Brad: Yeah) it's a lot of fun. So you'll definitely if you if you're like, "I'm gonna wait for the next one." You're waiting till 2024.Brad Crowell  Right. So don't wait, lesleylogan.co/retreat. Okay, now let's talk about Jessica Brothers. On a mission to heal, help heal the world. Jessica is an epigenetics specialist. And I looked that up because I was like, "What is that word?" She's a best selling author, and a business owner working to reverse chronic diseases. She's passionate advocate that, that through food and fueling your body correctly, you can change your health path. And it will literally create life changing results.Lesley Logan  I love bringing in different health experts. And because the reality is, is that like if your hormones are off, you can't feel awesome. You might not like there are reasons why you could feel depressed or unmotivated or literally not be able to believe in yourself. Like it's not all just like in your mind, it could also be in your blood. So so it's really important to me, that we don't just give you stories of inspiration or strategies for like making more money or achieving your goals. But also like you only have this one body. And for you to do those things, you got to take it with you and has to be optimal. So I'm excited for for the, I'm so glad to get to this interview.Brad Crowell  Yeah, so let's dig into epigenetics. So epigenetics or epi gene etics, genes, it's all about your genes, epigenetics. Specifically, is how your genes express and communicate. And if they are not communicating inside of your body properly, things begin to break down, right. And then we get symptoms, right. So like, think of it that this is a great example, I grew up what my mentor when I was in my teens was a chiropractor. And he specifically focused on the spinal column, and mostly on the neck. And his, what he said over and over again, was, it's very simple, your brain is sending messages to your body. And if the messages are blocked, because your spine is not allowing them to flow, because it's out of whack. You need to get the spine back in in the correct place so that the nerves aren't pinched, the messages are able to send properly, and it'll send these messages to your body where it's supposed to be. And this is also basically in that same vein, you're, you know, when your body is functioning properly, it allows you to stay healthy, stay at peak performance, all of these kinds of things. And she was talking about big and small stuff. I mean, everything from like, why is your hand itching or hurting maybe or your shoulder or whatever, all the way to like Parkinson's disease, you know, and it all comes down to epigenetics and how your genes are communicating and what they're expressing, you know, if your body if your brain is sending signals, but those signals are being blocked, somewhere is supposed to receive a signal. And if that signal isn't being received there, what's that part of your body going to do? Who knows. And that's why we end up with weird things.Lesley Logan  The conditions. I mean, like, that's just what happens, it's like, it's like, a simple thing is like, if you always have it outside of your foot, (Brad: Yeah.) the muscles on the other side are not actually getting worked. And that changes how you walk, which changes how you work with your knees, it changes how you work with your hips, it changes how things feel in your back. And then that (Brad: Yeah.) changes how much you move eventually over time, which that you know, so like, it just that's on a physical level, and she's on a genetic level. So it's the exact same thing that's happening.Brad Crowell  Yeah. She said, also, how we feel stress, how we respond, react to stress also depends on how on how healthy our genes are. And then she said, very three specific things on how can we keep our genes healthy? So there are three main things. Right. There's internal, external and environmental. Internal is like the food, what are you putting in to your body? Right. So obviously, eating healthy. Secondly is the external like the the skincare, creams, sprays, dyes, anything that has to do with what we're putting on our body. And then the third thing is environmental choices. And typically, my understanding from the conversation is your environment creates stress. So, and then she said ...Lesley Logan  Well, aslo like, I mean, there's just if your walls have mold. (Brad: Oh, sure.) You know what I mean? Like there's also those kinds of things. (Brad: Yeah.) And the externals, I think that I want to just like jump in real quick, because I think it can be really easy to go, "Okay, well, I don't actually do a lot of these things." Your shampoo could be fucking you up, like (Brad: Yeah.) your lotions. And that's why like, one, we have like a very vegan. Thank you, Australia for this amazing non chemical deodorant that we actually it's not even a deodorant. It just like keeps us from smelling. But my friends and so I was like I need to and they like we actually went through the whole thing to find one because we need to ... (Brad: It's a deodorant, not an antiperspirant.) Yes, that's right. And then, but when I started going down in my health thing, Chris Talley, who I worked with, he actually worked with whole teams whose like entire performance was, they were still great players, but they were actually not doing what they were expecting them to do. (Brad: Yeah.) And he looked at all their blood and goes, "Yeah, y'all have something going on in that locker room." And so went into the environment for which they work, and found all these shampoos and all these soaps and all these lotions that were literally causing them to have too much estrogen in their body, which was slowing them down and changing their coordination. (Brad: pretty crazy.) Yeah, yeah. So like ...Brad Crowell  So there are a lot of things that you can't control in this. But also, just like we were talking about in our last conversation, you know, space and grace here, you cannot control everything. Okay? So you want to, you know, but just to be conscious and intentional about the things that you're putting into your body, the things you're putting on your body, the environments that you're in.Lesley Logan  Yeah, this is where you if you become too perfectionist about this, you are going to be living in a cave. Like, I know, it's like I, as someone who's been on ...Brad Crowell  A cave that gets lots of sunlight.Lesley Logan  Yeah. Well, I mean like I think you it's easy to go too extreme with this and you end up not being able to eat out with friends (Brad: Yeah, or just enjoy life.) or go to people ... or just enjoy life. So I loved that she pointed out like, I am drinking out of this water bottle, but I don't do these other things. And like that's, that's just like what we have to to give ourselves some space and grace on for sure.Brad Crowell  Yeah. So what was one of the I mean, now that we've kind of covered epigenetics, like what's (Lesley: Yeah.) one of the things that you love about what she said?Lesley Logan  Yeah, I mean, what I'm what I'm really excited about with her and what she does, and like the other people we've had, like Dr. Bender on and things like that is like, there are other ways, like there are ways to help take care of like what, like, you don't have to go, "Oh, I'm unhealthy." So that's my lot in life like we can actually support this and change course, and one of the easiest ways is to use supplements to assist. And she likes to do this because you can make it ea... an easy catalyst for making your body want to make better choices. And like, Chris, had me do this. And so I totally understood what she was talking about, which is like, I'm not on all the supplements that he put me on the first time I had to go work with him. But he said, "Go on these now. So your body can actually start to make these things or you crave these things." And so what's really cool is like, if you work with, with Jessica, or someone similar to her, it's not like you not every single supplement is for life, like, "Oh my God, I'm taking these for life." Ideally, it's to help you experience change quickly. So that you can start to live more optimally, start to have more energy, start to feel good. And then you start to make better changes because of that.Brad Crowell  Well also, it's also can be what like, in your specific case, to effectively restart your body producing those things. (Lesley: Yeah.) Because it it stopped, it forgot how and because, you know, for whatever reason, I know, like 10 years of trial and error of all the things I mean, I think something that everybody's heard about is like, if you stop drinking milk after a while, you're gonna have a hard time processing milk. If you stop eating meat for after a while, you'll have a hard time processing meat. It's the same thing. But like it can be in some pretty vital things like the digestion, right? The amount of stress that was happening in your body was actually blocking your body from producing enzymes that would break down food. (Lesley: Yeah.) So taking supplements helps your body remember, "Oh, yeah, I gotta do this." (Lesley: Yeah.) Right. And so you don't need to remind your body for the rest of your life. You just have to kickstart everything to get it back and going again. And that kickstart took a couple years to be honest.Lesley Logan  Yeah, I mean, and that's to be like, to be expected. It's like any, in any change, you know, even income, like recovering from a relationship, however long you're in that relationship, just so you know, you don't just recover in three days, if it was like a (Brad: Right) 10 year relationship. So like, it's the same thing with your body, they work the same way. And and I think what and the guessing game is what you don't want to do, you definitely want to work with someone like Jessica. And that was her whole thing is like educate yourself. Find someone you trust, find someone who aligns with you who gets results, ask like for testimonials, and then like, and then go down the course and and Amy says this all the time, try not to have seven people that you're getting advice from because you're not going to know what's working and what's not working and like, (Brad: Right.) really, truly do the research and then stay the course and it might and then advocate for yourself. Like we've talked about in other episodes. Like if it's not working or you don't feel like it's working, ask questions, but you all like if you've ever felt sick, do you make the best choices for your day that day? Like not really. You're like, well. Like ...Brad Crowell  Yeah, probably not.Lesley Logan  Like you know, I'll tell you if I was hungover. When I was hungover at 23 I wasn't exactly picking the most healthy salad for that day. I was like, "Let's bring on the Del Taco." Actually Taco Bell, crunchwrap supreme and cinnamon twist. That was like, "But I can't eat gluten and dairy anymore."Brad Crowell  Well, I think you said something that's really important is with Chris, and also with Jessica, the way they approach this is scientific. (Lesley: Yeah.) From a genetic, like, she's specifically talking about genes. I know Chris really focuses on the bloodwork as well. And, you know, she, you know, so Jessica said, your journey to a healthier life begins with a cheek swab. You just swab, drop it into the mail off and then you know, the lab brings back these results. And then she can analyze the results and help you understand what your body needs and how it can you know how to put yourself back onto this path of optimal health. And that really does take away the guesswork. (Lesley: Yeah.) It's not this like, I don't know, maybe I'll do a FODMAP diet now, maybe I'll do the elimination diet now. Maybe I'll I don't know. Like I mean, we were guessing for fucking years. It was it was it was like it made my mind blown.Lesley Logan  Well, the doctors were guessing too. And so it literally we were going crazy. It was a really stressful like it was just anyone asked me what I wanted to eat caused so much stress. (Brad: Yeah.) And that was just making things worse and exacerbating the problem. And so, you know, once we actually use science, thank God for that. It was like, "Oh, I can have all of these things. (Brad: Right.) We can cook with that? Oh, I just have to take these seven pills so that I can break down the food and then it became six and five and four." And so you guys don't have it's not, don't guess with this. (Brad: Yeah.) Yes, it's an investment so maybe have to spend some time like saving up but like your body is not something you want to guess at ... (Brad: Yeah.) to guess that in life.Brad Crowell  I mean, Jessica talks about that too, you know, she said, "Okay, eating healthy is expensive. Try being sick." (Lesley: Yeah.) You know, like, like, seriously, the way that we ...Lesley Logan  Especially if you're in the States, you're paying for that.Brad Crowell  You're paying for out of your own pocket most likely, you know, this, this kind of thing, unless you have like disease. It's probably this is more considered, quote unquote, "preventative," and like something that your insurance company would cover, you know, so, you know, if you get sick. Anyway, this, it is so important to focus on the stuff before you need it. (Lesley: Yeah.) You know, I guess, let me read, let me go back and say that, again. I have no idea whatever the insurance companies will and will cover. We just know that health care is more expensive here in the United States, for sure. But while this may feel expensive, upfront, it is going to save you a lot of time and money down the road. You know, because you're able to get ahead of stuff like this. I mean, some of the stuff is is like we don't even we don't even question the idea of a prostate exam or a mammogram. Like, why would we not like we can do something that is relatively innocuous now, to prevent something happening down the road? Well, this is no different. This is just what you're eating, what you should be consuming. And it may be as simple as, "Hey, let's get you on some of these supplements today. So that your body has the balance that it needs as you go."Lesley Logan  Well and also just like one final thought on this. Y'all, I have made more money in my life. Now that I'm not sick. It was so hard for me to say yes to things, to create programs, to agree to take on projects, I knew I would need energy for that I didn't have. Like, I could not entertain extra stuff on my plate. Because every everything I was like, "How am I going to feel? I don't feel very good. I can't do that." Like my life liter... like if I kept going the way I was going, you would not be listening this podcast, we would not have OPC, Profitable Pilates probably would not be celebrating Agency's fifth birthday, which somehow we definitely missed an episode 168 celebrating. (Brad: Oh right.) So Agency is fucking five and it would not even exist. (Brad: Yeah.) Because five years ago, I definitely wasn't feeling able to to lead others in that capacity. I wanted to, (Brad: I mean ...) that I couldn't leave them in a mass.Brad Crowell  The thing that was jaw dropping to me was when you sat down with, you know, the doc, Chris. He said, "You have no, you have almost no vitamin B, you according to the science, you should be suicidal." And that was like, "I'm sorry, what?"Lesley Logan  Yeah, no vitamin D, and then vitamin B. So I had nothing that would make like, make someone happy or have energy at all. And, and also he said, I he surprised that I was actually like, able to even work out. (Brad: Right) So I was definitely just taxing my body trying to make it do what my job was. Which was to teach people and train people and workout.Brad Crowell  Well also, I think the the forcing yourself to work out was kicking in the endorphins that were keeping you, you know, in a positive place (Lesley: Yeah.) for the most part (Lesley: Yeah) you know, but you know ...Lesley Logan  The other there was damage from that as well because I was just really taxing them. There was stuff wrong with myself.Brad Crowell  But there's also sustainable to have to do (Lesley: No, no.) that. Like, you know, you can only do that for so long until you can't work out that way anymore.Lesley Logan  I forget what one of the things was, but improve the next year, which was like, like, literally my veins were showing signs of like, aging. (Brad: Oh, right.) Yeah, because I like so the guessing game doesn't work. If you whether you reach out to Jessica or you find someone like her, y'all please like advocate for yourself. Give yourself permission to take care of yourself. And this is not, I know that this can sound indulgent or luxurious and like trust me when we paid for my first test that was on a that was a credit card. (Brad: Yeah.) Like that was not money I had in the bank. But I'm telling you and then the supplements also on a credit card. But what ends up happening is I was able to actually take this one massive issue off my plate and have energy where I can go, "Oh, oh, I have actually I can actually take on two more clients." And that is $1,000 extra a month. (Brad: Yep.) So within six months, I paid all of that off and I was making profit and then I was able to think about Agency and OPC (Brad: Yeah.) and all those things. I was like, "I'm unstoppable now." So anyways, (Brad: Yes, you are Babe.) get yourself checked out. Stop asking your friends what they're eating. Just find out what you're supposed to eat.Brad Crowell  Yeah, yeah. Amazing. All right. Well, yeah, I mean that I I just to wrap this up from my perspective. I'm so fucking glad we did that. And it was a lot of money, but it was, it was so worth it in every possible way. And, you know, I, I'm because I know that you are in a way better place physically and mentally because it took away the fear, it took away the guessing game, it took away the, like, just the stigma of the I'm going to be sick and defining your entire life by that and all of that, all that mess. We you know, like, some of that stuff still comes up every once in a while, of course, but, you know, there's no longer living in fear. (Lesley: Yeah.) So wow. All right. So finally, let's talk about those BE IT action items. What bold, executable, intrinsic or targeted action items, can we take away from your convo with Jessica Brothers? She gave us two. And I'm going to jump into one that is is actually just like something straight up you can be doing right away. She talked about briefly about the importance of sea salt in your diet or actually she said she does it. She didn't actually explain why. But obviously your body needs salt. She said sea salt in the morning in your 20 to 24 ounces of water. Grab one of those like pink Himalayan sea salt little ginder thingies, and she said 20 turns of the Himalayan sea salt or, you know, roughly a teaspoon and a half and then shake the water and the salt together and you know, get your morning going. And that will that's a positive thing that you can be putting into.Lesley Logan  Yeah, if that applies to you. What if that's the cheapest thing you could actually do. Like we drink ag one in the morning, this would be like literally pennies, like a half a penny. (Brad: Yeah.) But um, and here's the thing, cuz I was sort of into the same with my dad was salt when he you know, he's 70. So obviously things apply to different people at different stages in their life. So, but y'all hear how much water you're supposed to drink or you drink you're like, so focused on drinking water, electrolytes is actually salt, and and really, it's really what it is like, it's if you drink too much water without having salt in your diet, you drown your brain called hyponatremia. I wrote a paper on it. So because that was like a whole thing. I'm like, what's too much of a good thing and ...Brad Crowell  Super impressed by you right now.Lesley Logan  I know. And they talked about like cyclists, like if they were just to drink water, when they're out, right, like riding their bike or runners, if you're only just to drink water, you would actually end up getting sick, and possibly drying your brain. And the reason is, is because you're sweating. (Brad: Right.) And so you need to replace, and if you've ever tasted your sweat is salty. So you have to, you have to replace that so that you don't end up with like this saturating yourself without having anything that balances out.Brad Crowell  Well, I always am a fan of the why behind the what. So (Lesley: Yeah) thanks for that. (Lesley: Yeah) What did you love?Lesley Logan  Here for the fun facts. Okay, so my favorite action item is to create a morning routine for you. And she has begun with salt water, but you can have like fill your own cup. Do what you are doing, do what you're doing for you, not anyone else, it must make you happy. These are three points with that. So here, this kind of goes back into like the morning routine from Alan's episode 168. But like, has to like make sure that what's in your morning routine filter ... It's really important that whatever is in your routine, you're not doing to impress anybody else. And I think that especially in the month of January, people have a lot of goals for the new year. And it's like, here's all the things that I'm I'm, you know, wanting to do. And if they're to keep up with your friends or because your friends did it and they look a certain way or they act a certain way or they have some you want to have. (Brad: Right) If it doesn't fit with the science of what you need, and you're not doing it for you. It's not sustainable. That is the that is a big reason why people don't achieve their goals is that often the goals they set are not for themselves. So make sure that part of your morning routine is for you and not for anyone else.Yeah, yeah. Awesome. Well, I think I think you nailed that there. So (Lesley: Thank you.) I got nothing to add.Well, thank you, Jessica, for being here. I'm Lesley Logan.Brad Crowell  And I'm Brad Crowell.Lesley Logan  How are you going to use these tips in your life? It's a look at approximately 150 bio markers as tested and interpreted by sports nutritionist, Chris Talley. This is an intimate and, in some cases, surprising look at my overall health, what I'm lacking in my diet, what I can do to improve my nutrition, what's looking good and some alarming (toxic) results that need to be cleared up. Nutritional scientist Chris Talley is my go-to for all things food science. We've worked together with hundreds of professional athletes and Olympians. We worked together at Red Bull with their high performance program, up at the Seahawks and with handfuls of athletes that live right on the edge of intense risk and danger.I hope you enjoy Chris' mind and world-views as much as I do.This conversation is loaded so we’ve split it up into two parts. In part one, you’ll learn about Chris’ journey, his work with many NFL teams and Olympians, and what’s driven him to work so hard to become the best at what he does. This episode is brought to you by Athletic Greens.Receive a free 20-count travel pack of Athletic Greens (valued at $99) with any purchase!Claim here: athleticgreens.com/findingmastery
