The cherry blossoms are gone at the nation's capital, but hardly forgotten. The memories of D.C. United's bad loss to San Jose also have not faded from the District. However, FC Cincinnati fans can attest to the fact that bad losses could be followed by great wins. The two teams clash at Audi Field this weekend, so we invited José Umaña and Mario Amaya (no relation to Frankie) from The Bad Hombres FC Podcast to talk about how head coach Troy Lesesne is directing traffic. Yes, Christian Benteke is a force to be reckoned, but who else should the Orange & Blue watch for? Have the Black & Red resolved their defensive woes from last season? Sporting Kansas City has now extended their losing streak to 9 straight games in all competitions stretching back to last year as they were unable to find a goal while up a man for over 40 minutes against San Jose in Children's Mercy Park last Saturday night, in front of the first home opener non-sell out in the venue's history. There are a lot of (candidly)reasonable opinions asking for patience with this team due to the circumstances it is in through the 4 games played this year, but given the recent history, it is not surprising to find that most fans have run out of it, hence the empty seats you could too easily see in the stadium Saturday night. Too many familiar themes reared their ugly heads during this match, and it is difficult to look at the performances on the field so far and come to the conclusion that some significant change in fortunes is coming. One of the standout concerns from this game and the others this season has been a prevalence of indecision. This is not a new problem, it has permeated this team for some time now, and it leads to significant errors defensively, and a general feeling of inaction offensively. While you would expect that some of this improves as new players build more time in training together over the coming weeks, it is a familiar refrain that certainly has the members of this podcast questioning if it can be fully remedied with the currently available options on the roster and coaching staff. Finally, the KC Current at long last release their teal kit, The Bartlett Brothers get an opportunity to match up on Saturday, and will Christian Benteke end Robi Voloder's MLS career?

D.C. United's Christian Benteke grew up playing soccer in the streets of Belgium—where a nutmeg is worth more than a goal. As he got older, he refined a blend of skill and physicality that helped him net 23 regular-season goals this year, beating out Bouanga, Messi, and Suárez to capture the 2024 MLS Golden Boot. Although D.C. barely missed out on a playoff spot, they were in contention thanks to Benteke—who contributed to almost 60% of the club's goals this season. On today's episode, Taylor sits down with Benteke to talk about his soccer origins, the evolution of his game, and why learning new languages is so important on and off the pitch. Plus, Taylor breaks down the most dramatic Decision Day since 2014. Offside With Taylor Twellman is a Major League Soccer podcast, produced by Apple TV and Rain Delay Media. Ian Graham worked as Liverpool FC's Director of Research between 2012 and 2023. Under first Brendan Rodgers and then Jurgen Klopp, his role included helping the Reds identify possible transfer targets as they embraced a data-led strategy. His tenure coincided with the club's greatest period of success since the 1980s, including winning both the Champions League and Premier League in 2020. And his newly-released book, ‘How to Win the Premier League: The Inside Story of Football's Data Revolution', he reveals all about Liverpool's transformation. To mark his book's release, Graham sat down with the Liverpool ECHO's Theo Squires and lifts the lid on the Reds' transfer strategy over the past decade in a fascinating exclusive interview. Ian Graham's 'How to Win the Premier League: The Inside Story of Football's Data Revolution' in on sale now: https://tinyurl.com/292p5jkz He opens up on regularly locking horns with Rodgers during the years of the infamous transfer committee, sharing his frustration at missing out on a number of targets - including Diego Costa and Alexis Sanchez - while fighting against the arrival of Christian Benteke. Everything changed at Anfield following Klopp's arrival in October 2015, and Graham lifts the lid on some of Liverpool's most successful transfers under the German's watch - including Mohamed Salah - sharing fascinating behind-the-scenes insight on the Reds' transformation. Graham also has his say on Salah's current contract situation, with Liverpool facing something of a dilemma ahead of the 32-year-old's deal expiring next summer. Meanwhile, a boyhood Reds supporter, he also explains why he decided to leave the club in 2023, and reveals all on Michael Edwards' return to FSG - having previously set up his own consultancy firm with the former Liverpool sporting director. Hey, soccer fans! It was a road point in the nation's capital for the beleaguered Men in Red. Yes, the Chicago Fire did just enough to earn a 1-1 draw against DC United and give themselves and their fans a sliver of hope. Defender Carlos Teran successfully held star striker Christian Benteke in check, while Andrew Gutman created opportunities for the visitors - including starting the play that led to Kellyn Acosta's equalizer. Can the Fire turn this into a point streak? They'll have a mid-week game against a similarly struggling Orlando City side and a weekend matchup with Western Conference power LA Galaxy to test their newfound confidence. In what should be a match between equally desperate teams, Chicago will have the home field advantage against The non-Messi, Florida squad. They will hope to take any momentum into their match vs. the stars of the Galaxy. It could be a big week for the Fire, so tune in and hear what Nick thinks will happen. Hey, Fire fans! What did we just watch? I wish I could say the Chicago Fire's flat play vs. DC United was a bad April Fool's joke, but sadly it's a result of an anemic offense, a defense barely holding it together, and a head coach unable to adjust/adapt over the course of a game...or a season...or his career (TBD). In today's show, our host looks at the offensive woes and how the team is operating on the slimmest of margins for error. Defensively, the team got lucky that Taxi Fountas and Christian Benteke had off-games, otherwise this could've been a 3-0 route at home. (And defense is supposed to be their strength!) Finally, Nick breaks down Fire manager Ezra Hendrickson's post-game comments, revealing that Ezra literally doesn't have the answers. What did you think of the Men in Red in their latest match? All goals are worth the same, or are they? The Athletic's Michael Cox and Mark Carey join host Ali Maxwell to try and work out whether it's possible to accurately measure the true value of a goal, and try to find out which players score the most valuable goals. Taking our lead from Mark's recent piece on the subject, we delve into the data to look at the likes of Didier Drogba, Christian Benteke, Richarlison and Christian Eriksen as we attempt to work out why certain players appear more capable of delivering in the big moments than other more renowned goalscorers.

Millwall's Gary Rowett on offside before Palace goal – but boss more concerned with defending MILLWALL boss Gary Rowett felt his side's poor start to the second half cost them as they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Crystal Palace.Rowett was disappointed that the Lions followed up a first half in which they were the better team and had the lead through Benik Afobe's goal with a slow start to the second to allow Palace to equalise a minute after the break through Michael Olise.Olise then crossed in the 58th minute for Jean-Philippe Mateta to head home what proved to be the winner.Rowett felt Mateta was offside in the build-up to the first goal, but the Lions manager was more focused on his side's defending.“I think we acquitted ourselves pretty well for the vast majority of the game,” Rowett said. “In the first half we started really well. You knew that with the atmosphere at The Den it was all about trying to make it a really quick, aggressive start.“We did that quite well, we looked really assured as a team first half in and out of possession. We scored a very good goal, we worked a little bit on when we could get higher up the pitch and put pressure on. Jack Butland just takes a little bit of time on the ball and we manage to pinch it off him and score a good goal.“I thought we looked fine first half, I was really pleased when we came in at half-time. Second half what you can't do against a Premier League side, or any side, is start like that. We can't allow Olise time on the ball.“I think there is an offside in the build-up when the ball goes into the striker, I think Matetea is just offside, but then you can't allow Olise to come inside the pitch. He's left-footed, you've got to force him outside, and it was a poor goal for us to concede. Then after that we conceded another poor goal when Olise again comes inside, chips a ball into the box and we've got two players in there against their two and we allow a free header.“Disappointing but I was pleased with the response afterwards. It was just whether we could go and get that second goal, really.“When you're playing against a Premier League side that goes so strong and then brings on the likes of [Christian] Benteke and [Odsonne] Édouard you know that it's going to be a game where you have to maintain it for 90 minutes. You can't drop your guard, you can't make mistakes because they've got players who can punish those mistakes.“That 10-, 15-minute spell [after half-time], yes they upped their game, yes they attacked with more intensity but I would expect us to be able to maintain that in the 46th, 47th minute. If it happens in the 80th minute when we're a little bit fatigued then I can half-expect that.“But to make those mistakes so early in the second half was a little bit disappointing because it just took the shine off what was a pretty good performance overall.”Taken from News at Denhttps://newsatden.co.uk/83056-millwalls-gary-rowett-on-offside-before-palace-goal-but-boss-more-concerned-with-defending/if you want to check out recast click this link.https://share.recast.app/u/8eEaz?referrer=6nzzwSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/that-millwall-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
