Happy New Year sports fans. Whenever we close the book on one year and move on to the next one, it is always a time to reflect on the past. In this episode of the Historically Speaking Sports Podcast, I will do just that. When I was nine years old I became captivated with college football. It was 1982 and there were 16 bowl games that year as opposed to the current list of 42 this year. We will go through all 16 bowl game from that season which included a matchup of future Heisman Trophy winners, a legendary coach saying good bye and, just for the sixth time ever, a matchup between #1 and #2 in a bowl game for the National Championship. Later in the show, one of the bowl games I featured in the main event, the Bluebonnet Bowl will be recognized in the "Shout out" portion of the show. And of course we will have the Homefield Apparel Top 5 where we will countdown the five most memorable moments of 2022. You could contact us at Historically.Speaking.Sports@Gmail.com and you could follow us in Twitter @Historically Sp2.

Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard wrongly criticized college football players for choosing to opt-out of bowl games. Both Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard claimed this as a generational issue...and that modern athletes don't have a "love for the game". We explain why NFL prospects shouldn't be criticized for choosing not to play in meaningless bowl games. We discuss how the College Football Playoff...which is better than the old BCS system...has devalued the rest of the bowl games.
In today's Hooked on Sports Podcast: John goes over some of the highlights and big stories that came out of some of the college football FBS bowl games over the weekend, including a controversial take about players opting out of non-CFP bowl games and how that relates to their actual lives and love of the game, and why it should be no surprise that Alabama is once again in the national title game. Also, John will discuss four key stories from the NFL on Sunday that should be discussed further, including the Antonio Brown saga, what might potentially hold the Dallas Cowboys back from winning a Super Bowl, the job status of Giants head coach Joe Judge, and the Cincinnati Bengals winning the AFC North with an astounding 34-31 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
