October 14 is Indigenous Peoples' Day, and we're honoring the occasion by chatting with middle blocker Lauren Schad. From Rapid City, South Dakota, Lauren is a member of the Cheyenne River Lakota Tribe and celebrates her culture as much as possible, which can be difficult for long parts of the year as she has played professionally in France for six seasons. Despite the distance, Lauren has always felt support from the Indigenous community and gives back by hosting volleyball clinics or supporting organizations that raise awareness of the missing and murdered Indigenous women epidemic. From South Dakota to San Diego to continental Europe, Lauren has brought her culture to wherever she's lived. We're honored for her to share it with LOVB today. Topics include: Honoring the Cheyenne River Lakota Tribal tradition Finding volleyball through a layup College on the west coast Realizing that going pro is an option Overcoming isolation in her rookie year Growing the game in Native communities Induction into the Indigenous Athletics Hall of Fame Giving those who cannot speak the opportunity to do so Retiring from volleyball and rediscovering joy in volleyball Rug-making and textile work Follow Lauren on Instagram and Facebook. In hour two, Hoch and Crowder discuss Crowder's eventful weekend at Fanatics Fest in New York City. They uncover that the Hudson Yard Restaurant is owned by Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross. They also delve into Sun Sentinel's Joe Schad's article, which predicts the 53-man roster and questions whether Odell Beckham Jr. will serve as a decoy in the Dolphins' offense. Hoch shares his belief that Josh Dobbs ranks among the top 10 NFL quarterbacks, while also expressing his view that the movie ‘The 40-Year-Old Virgin' is overrated. Additionally, they analyze Schad's article on overreactions to the Dolphins' preseason game against the Commanders and debate whether Mike White or Skylar Thompson should be the backup if Tua Tagovailoa is unavailable.

As the Louvre's director admits that the Paris museum wants to move its most famous painting away from the crowded gallery in which it is currently displayed, we ask the Leonardo specialist Martin Kemp: does the museum have a Mona Lisa problem? We also talk about the painting's continuing allure and the ongoing efforts to explain its mysteries. In London, remarkably, Judy Chicago has just opened her first major multidisciplinary survey in a British public gallery, at the Serpentine North. We talk to her about the show. And this episode's Work of the Week is Christian Schad's Self-Portrait with Model (1927). The painting features in Splendour and Misery: New Objectivity in Germany at the Leopold Museum in Vienna. Since its adoption in 2005, no other piece of policy has changed the corn industry more than the Renewable Fuel Standard. Ethanol has become one of the most important markets for corn in that time. But over the last couple of years, there are new developments that could be major boon for this crucial sector. So in this episode, we're going to talk with a few ethanol experts to get their perspectives on how that market has developed, where it's at today, and where they're hoping it will go in the future. Joining us are agricultural economist Scott Irwin from the University of Illinois; Julie Busse, a member of the National Corn Growers Association ethanol team; and Bradley Schad, the CEO of the Missouri Corn Merchandising Council and Missouri Corn Growers Association. They'll provide some important context about ethanol's history as a fuel, and also tell us how you can get involved with critical efforts to secure its future.
