Escuchar audio
We had the pleasure of interviewing Donna Lewis over Zoom video! The new album ‘Rooms With A View' is a collaboration between celebrated singer and songwriter Donna Lewis and renowned electronic artist and producer Holmes Ives.More than just an album though, the record documents Donna's year long journey through breast cancer: “Cancer was the un-invited messenger, the darkdweller who I sought to banish with the love of my family, brilliant doctors and my art”.In 2021 Donna Lewis was about to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of her breakthrough smash hit single ‘I Love You, Always Forever' and her debut album, ‘Now In A Minute' when a routine medical check up, (delayed by the pandemic), brought her the news that no-one ever wants to hear. All plans in place to mark the anniversary, the tour dates, the live TV special, the remixes, were all put on hold to deal with more urgent matters. Donna then spent the next year or so undergoing treatment and surgery, all the while actively writing and recording, before finally late in 2022 she felt ready to prepare for releasing new music once again.Donna had been introduced to the work of electronic artist and producer Holmes Ives in 2021 when he had created a reworking of a piano vocal track she had released called ‘I Told You So'. Since then she had always wanted to further collaborate with him so when it came time to get creative again she suggested they write maybe 2 or 3 tracks together as a potential release for the two of them. All done remotely, they have yet to meet in person, musical ideas were passed back and forth and Holmes worked up tracks for Donna to write lyrics to.As Donna began the creative writing process, she soon realised that without any intent to do so, every set of lyrics going down on the page all represented a different chapter of what she had experienced over the preceding year. Some cryptically capture the trauma and the fear of the diagnosis and treatment while others were observational recollections of more mundane aspects, such as her favorite nurse or the different views from the various treatment rooms. What had been intended to be a four track EP now became an album as how the chapters of the story unfolded made it impossible to convey this momentous journey in anything less.“The instrumental tracks that Holmes Ives sent me coaxed the lyrics from the pages of my journals and inspired an album of stories, unlocking fears, and the climb to a healthier me -mind, body and spirit”Donna's strong and inspiring lyrics, enhanced by her expressive vocal prowess which she has become famous for, married seamlessly with the driving rhythmic dimensions of Holmes Ives stunning sound-beds and has resulted in an awe -inspiring testament of strength, gratitude and facing fears. As well as providing an immensely satisfying musical listening experience, it also relays support and inspiration to anyone who needs it, no matter whatever the reasons in this ever more challenging world of today.“It is an offering of hope for anyone going through a dark tunnel. I am forever grateful to share it with you”.We want to hear from you!
As the winter chill sets in, imagine cozying up with a warm cup of tea and the wall of noise psych-pop of Cults, the band that first took over the web with "Go Outside." In this episode, Brian Oblivion and Madeleine Follin join Paul to share their journey from a viral sensation to seasoned artists. We meander through their contrasting COVID experiences, with Brian finding solace in the snow-capped quiet of upstate New York while Maddie paints a vivid picture from the bustling downstate. Their anecdotes of musical resurgence on TikTok will remind you why "Always Forever" and "Gilded Lily" have found a new lease on life among listeners.Have you ever wondered about the creative alchemy that fuels a band's sound? Brian and Maddie pull back the curtain on their songwriting and recording process, with a candid look at their winter studio sessions and the tightrope walk of their unique partnership. They offer a glimpse into their musical origins, from Maddie's punk band beginnings to Brian's unconventional path, all leading up to a serendipitous convergence that neither of them saw coming. Their reflections on navigating the music industry's ebbs and flows are as enlightening as they are inspiring. To round off our chat, we explore the delicate interplay of hope and pragmatism that drives a musician's career. Brian and Maddie share insights into the validation they've felt from new platforms and the importance of staying humble and adaptable, echoing advice from family that has kept them grounded.Presented and produced by Paul Hanford Paul Hanford on InstagramLost and Sound is proudly sponsored by Audio-TechnicaPaul's debut book, Coming To Berlin: Global Journeys Into An Electronic Music And Club Culture Capital is out now on Velocity Press. Filmmaker, director, and Valencia guitarist Brendan Walter was one of thirty-two students sued by the RIAA for downloading music while he was attending Drexel University, and we have to wonder if one of the songs he LimeWired was the 1996 Donna Lewis pop gem “I Love You Always Forever”. This Welsh artist took a nursery rhyme chorus and made Billboard history, which was clearly a magical time full of exotic sweetness that made an impact on Brendan as he laid under a blue sky with pure white stars. Dear Sweet Listeners, we're really happy you joined us this season! And while we dove deep into the books as we read them week by week, the truth is we still have a LOT to discuss. Does Jenny Han's almost decade-old book trilogy stand-up to the test of time? We'd say yes — it hits us with waves of nostalgia, cuteness, romance and fun. But outside of that there's even more to unfold: the characters we love, do Lara Jean and Peter make it after college? What happens to everyone else? And also, what book series are we doing for season 7? Always & Forever, Laura & Meggie

Cette semaine on parle d'une one-hit wonder qui s'est offert un tube hyper cul-cul mais terriblement efficace qui a pris le monde par surprise en 1996. C'est I Love You Always Forever de Donna Lewis! When you look back on the hard times in your life, what do you see? Do you only see the darkness and the pain? Do you only see how hard it was for you in those moments? Or do you also see Gods hand at work in your life? Because friend, you can see both. It's not one or the other. You can see your pain and the hand of God at work simultaneously, because He uses our pain for HIS purpose. When you look back and see Him there, you can rest assured that He is also with you now, and that He will be forevermore. Why? Because "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." (Hebrews 13:8). If you loved this episode, I'd love it if you leave me a 5 star review so more people can be encouraged by Gods word, via my mouth! Ha! A few months ago, I received notification that the person convicted of killing my father will be eligible for a parole hearing in April 2023... that is less than 3 years away. Even still, while the hearing is in less than three years, he still has another mandatory 8 years let's be fty to server. When I was a kid, 50 years seemed forever... now its right around the corner. I know have to ask myself how I feel about that. Do I consider what my mom would do or think about this, do I lean on religious beliefs or do what I think is right by me? Do I even know what I think is right? I have many questions and no answers, but I have time to think about it. It's the most adorable song of the 1990's on this week's episode! Sal and Bob play it close to home and do the show from Andiamo in Livonia, Michigan. The One Hit Wonder is Donna Lewis's “I Love You, Always Forever.” Somehow local newscasters Diana Lewis and the crazy Bill Bonds become part of the discussion, as does Rocky. Sal and Bob talk about having corporate jobs and balancing that with a comedy career, and the conversation segues into one of our favorite comedians and friends, Gary Gulman. The guys talk about Gary's Twitter campaign to give a bit of comedy advice every day for 365 days. Sal brings up some of the difficulties in juggling another career with comedy. Both guys agree with Gary's advice to judge your jokes by the reaction of an ideal crowd. Sal says performing with a comedian like Gary makes you want to bring your A Game. The guys talk about the World Cup and Bob brings up ways to spice up the game, and both laugh at their friend Steve Lind's awesome soccer joke. The Whine List is Bob's complaint about idiots blowing off fireworks after the 4th. Bob also bitches about people who freak out about their dogs on the 4th. Sal talks about the Andiamo Showroom and Bob relates a story about meeting Don Rickles and asking Rickles to call him a hockey puck. Both guys talk about the recent California earthquakes, wish everyone well, and talk about the science of earthquakes, like they have any idea what the hell they're talking about. Sal brings up the latest Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga news. Both guys yap about yet another losing night at the casino, but Sal goes nuts for the Locket Link slot machine. This week we are airing a presentation that Margaret Killjoy gave at Firestorm Books on the release day of her new release The Barrow Will Send What it May. This is the second in her Danielle Cain series which highlights magic, anarchism, queerness, punk squatter subculture and a bunch more. The presentation consisted of a brief intro, a reading, and to end up a q&a session. As a warning to listeners, the reading describes the events of a car crash. This occurs between 11 and 12 minutes after the presentation starts, it is not graphic but if you aren't in a good spot to hear that please feel free to turn the volume down. Also, we have transcribed and re-recorded the questions in the final section, not because anything said was sketchy, but just to not air people's voices that may not have wanted to be broadcast. To find copies of Margaret's book you can go to tor.com and search her name or the title of the book, and to see more of her work you can visit birdsbeforethestorm.net To hear an interview that we did with her on the release of the first novella in this series, you can visit our blog and search her name. This episode is scored with Nomadic War Machine's new release, which is Margaret's solo music project, called The Fields Lay Fallow off of her new album Always//Forever. To round out the hour, we are presenting a much abridged version of the most recent Error 451, our sometimes weekly tech podcast that tackles tech as it pertains to anarchism, anarchists, and more generally, how to understand this strange, often terrible and sometimes alright world of tech! Any aspiring techsters can find the full version of this podcast here, and if you wish you can keep up to date on these releases by either subscribing to our podcast feed by using “The Final Straw Radio” as your search or by keeping an eye on our website. . … . .. Juneteenth and BRABC Event This year incarcerated human rights activist Comrade Malik Washington put out the call for an international day of actions in solidarity with the movement to #EndPrisonSlavery on Juneteenth. Juneteenth is a holiday celebrated on the 19th of June to commemorate and celebrate the end of legalized slavery in the United States. However, as prison rebels from Alabama to Texas to Florida and beyond have pointed out, the 13th amendment to the Constitution, which supposedly ended slavery, actually carves out an exception for people who have been convicted of a crime, meaning slavery was never fully abolished for incarcerated folks–a condition of exploitation and dehumanization clearly visible within the brutality of every aspect of the US prison system, and in the fact that incarcerated workers receive no meaningful compensation for their labor while in prison. In response to this call for events, Blue Ridge Anarchist Black Cross will host a Juneteenth event at 5:30pm on June 19, at Firestorm Books. We will screen Ava Duvernays award-winning documentary “13th,” discuss how people can get involved in the movement to #EndPrisonSlavery, and send some cards to prison rebels who need a little love and light right now! Hope to see you there! Malik Washington's Statement in Support of Sean Swain Revolutionary Greetings, comrades! It's me, Comrade Malik in Texas. This June 11th I'd like to ask all of y'all to send some Love, Light, and Commissary CA$H to my brother in struggle Sean Swain in Ohio. Sean has dedicated a lot of time and effort to supporting and sustaining the work done by the Incarcerated Workers Organizing Committee. Sean has edited our publications and provided much needed direction for our Abolition movement. Sean continues to make personal sacrifices for the good of all, and he never ceases to speak Truth to Power. In the following months I hope to work directly with Sean so we can tear this entire thing down! Hopefully I will become an honorary 13th Monkey!!? In Struggle 4 Life, Malik . … . .. Playlist here.

I know this blog is supposed to be about ambient music but over the years I've posted some outliers - "Quintessential Jazz" "Footsteps" "Psalms and Lullabies" "Sunday Morning Music" "Vox Electronix" and some other odd balls. It gets a little boring just mixing nothing but floating ambient so it's nice to branch out every now and then. This mix, "Always & Forever," is definitely on a different branch of the musical tree than ambient. It's a collection of Americana style tunes that I've been listening to a lot lately. I've been a fan of the Avett Brothers since my daughter introduced me to them 7 or 8 years ago. Listening to the banjo as used by the Avetts and Sufjan Stevens started me on a path to enjoying stripped down, acoustic, country/americana/roots/whatever-you-want-to-call-it music. Even though this mix is Americana music I think it still retains some of the Low Light Mixes feel. Most of the tunes are simple and laid back. There are two soundtracks represented here, "Beasts of the Southern Wild" and "Nebraska." I love the beautiful simplicity of the "Nebraska" soundtrack. It always conjures up the black and white landscape images from the film. Oops, there are three soundtracks used in this mix. I forgot about "Inside Llewyn Davis." Another of my favorite films from last year. The job Oscar Issac did was fabulous and so I couldn't resist using two cuts from the album. Also included in this mix are four artists that I heard for the first time in 2013, Elephant Revival, Valerie June, Johnny Flynn and Gregory Alan Isakov. All excellent recordings. Some other artists that I just had to include are The Avett Brothers because, well, they're the Avett Brothers. Also Blessed Feathers because they are local duo that does awesome music. And Andrew Bird because he has become my favorite all around artist over the last 2 or 3 years. I hope you all enjoy this newest diversion from the ambient formula. I like this mix so much that I'll probably do more. Cheers. I had the honor of DJ'ing and coordinating music online for Out Magazine's 20th anniversary celebration, which took place on October 9th, 2012 at the W Hotel in Hollywood and the experience was an absolute blast. For anyone who wasn't able to attend, I am posting my live set right here on podomatic. This first half, which took place before the night's speeches, covers the music that defined our LGBT lives from Out's inaugural year, 1992, all the way through 2001. This was a great era for music and I had a blast listening back at the music from these years. This playlist isn't completely chronological, but I think it does a great job of generally capturing the sound of that 10-year period. For more, check out my musical picks from each year on Out Magazine's special 20th anniversary section, HERE: http://www.out.com/out-exclusives/out-20 The playlist, below: "Moving On Up" (Rui Tome 2012 Private Mix), M People"Ain't No Need To Hide" (Deep Dish Mix), Sandy B"Where Love Lives" (12" Classic Mix), Alison Limerick"The Lover That You Are" (Classic Club Mix), Pulse feat.
