Do you sometimes feel like you're not in control of your emotions? If so, you're not alone. Emotional mind management is a term used to describe the process of understanding and managing emotions. In this week's episode of The Hack, Our hosts Leon and Paul, along with guest host Sam Cawley are joined by Glenn Mead - a coaching psychologist who specialises in the neuroscience of decision making. Glenn explains how emotional mind management can help us get the better out of ourselves and other people and talks about the importance of accepting our emotions. EMOTIONAL MIND MANAGEMENT Glenn Mead is currently a Coaching Psychologist and Director of Face Value Performance Psychology Limited. He specialises in individual and organisational performance at all levels, using techniques and approaches grounded in neuroscience and occupational psychology. With services ranging from individual executive coaching, and small group facilitation to masterclass workshops and keynote talks, he aims to help clients to improve effectiveness and efficiency through team engagement and retention, reduced stress, and increased resilience, communication and leadership. Glenn has previously worked with Steve Peter's company Chimp Management Limited as the Director of Corporate Programmes. His role was to help improve performance and change organisational settings for big companies, Supermarkets, NHS etc., by explaining how to use emotional mind management to get the better out of yourself and other people. Building on the “Chimp paradox” developed by Prof Steve Peters in “The Mind Management”, Glenn compares the independent emotions of our “inner chimp” generated within the limbic system of the brain that leads to an initial uncontrolled emotion or reaction with the executive, logical and learned responses that come from the frontal cortex. It is essential to recognise, know and “reflect” on your “natural” CHIMP, what triggers it, know your reaction and be prepared to articulate and control it. He knows how to communicate with employees and, during the podcast, explains that "it's normal to have emotions. If you can understand where they're gonna come from and what the triggers are, then you can work out your options. When you're in a calm mind, you'll be better off when the moment does happen. And it's important to accept it and accept that's the way we are; we are human beings-We do get emotional." To get the better out of ourselves, we need to understand and manage our emotions; this is where emotional mind management comes in. Emotional mind management is a process that helps us to understand our emotions and how they affect us so that we can control them instead of them controlling us. Full Blog - Think Cloud

Rajesh ——————————————— Arjuna's mindset - Pity, despondency, agitated, dejection, eyes full of tears, lost all hope, no sense of purpose, depression, visible signs of depression - seed anti mama gaatrani, mukham cha parishushyati, vepathushcha sharire me, romaharshascha jayate - limbs fail, mouth parched, sweating, quivering, hairs standing on end… LESSON 1: EMOTIONAL MIND VERY STRONGLY covering his intellect - like a thick black cloud covering the sun. We can recognize signs of DEPRESSION within us too! His Intellect becomes convoluted. Tries to justify. Puts forth arguments that will justify his point of view - without any sufficient logical base - altering facts, creating opinions to suit one's emotional turbidity. Sentiments cloud our understanding. Emotions rule us. Strong sense of ego - “I” expressed as “How can I kill my relatives?” SPLIT PERSONALITY SYNDROME. Perception /Action Sense Organs, Emotional Mind, Intellectual Mind are not aligned together. LESSON 2: WHEN WE ARE NOT MENTALLY INTEGRATED, our efforts dissipate like clouds in a bright sun. This is our life too. Most of us don't seek right help to our mental wellbeing. Right help can come only from scriptures - not paid psychoanalysis help! He Finally gives up. Surrenders to a superior intellect - Trust in Krishna's supremacy. LESSON 3: Surrender is hard. But when one surrenders, it becomes easy. Either surrender to a parent, trusted friend or relative, or plainly to your inner conscience. What is inner conscience? It is the sense of ‘Big I' of who we truly are! Not the sense we have of the ‘small I' that identifies itself with body, senses, mind or intellect. How do we know there is a “Big I” within me? When we ask the question - who am I and analyze with a simple framework - subject is different from objects, then we will truly know who we are! Heat & Cold, happiness & sadness, praise & criticism, success & failure are all experienced by me - so they are not me! I stand apart from them! They are all finite - in time, space or relationship. All these too will pass! LESSON 4: Even if we don't trust anyone, trust that inner conscience. Recognize that it is there and ask - what would that inner conscience want me to do now in my depression state? Why should one trust the inner conscience? Is there any such thing? Why don't I experience that? If that is happiness, eternal, consciousness - and it is my real nature - why don't I feel it? Are there any preparations I need to do? Krishna says, karma yoga, bhakti yoga, jnana yoga are the rungs of the ladder to know & become that sat-chit-ananda: the eternal existence, conscious & bliss nature. Preparing the body, senses is the pre-requisite for karma yoga. LESSON 5: Like in all knowledge acquisition, we need to prepare. Mind is the biggest obstacle as well as the most important instrument we have to acquire this knowledge about the Big I - our true. This is life worth living. Anchored to an unchanging goal post - meandering around, using life situations as learning &growing opportunities and overcoming the mental doubts, confusion and expanding our mind to include everything in the sense of I. Small I becoming the Big I in three steps through karma yoga, Bhakti yoga, jnana yoga. Hari Om Tat Sat! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/happilyoga/message

In this episode, we have Dr. David Snyder on the show. Dr. Snyder is a renowned specialist in hypnosis, NLP, and Mind-Body technologies for peak performance, persuasion, and covert influence around the globe. He is a hypnosis trainer, a Master Practitioner and trainer in NLP, and a Society of Experiential Trance member. Dr. David is the originator and founder of the Conversational Persuasion and Influence System (CPI). David also possesses a Master of Arts in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Southern California University of Health Sciences, where he pioneered the hypnotic method in conjunction with acupuncture therapy. Tune in and join our exciting conversation with Dr. Snyder as he points out our ultimate power to take control of our negative state. Standout Quotes: “I became ravenous in my desire to acquire more personal power to become more of the person that I wanted to be rather than the person that nature, society, and genetics conspired to make me. “ “When I see the lights come on and see the shift in them, that inspires me. That makes this is both gratifying and humbling work at the same time.” “These moments of isolation are also giving us opportunities to connect and rebuild our families.” “We labor under the belief that we have control of everything, but we don't.” Key Takeaways: Dr. Snyder grew up in an emotionally abusive home, a stereotypical bullied child, triggering him to turn situations around. He grew hungry in his quest to get more personal authority and power to become the person he wants to be. The pandemic brought us opportunities to reconnect and rebuild relationships with our families. The only thing we truly have control over is ourselves and how we react to situations as we encounter them. Changing your posture and breathing is the quickest and most foolproof approach to shift your psycho-emotional state, anywhere and anytime. Everything begins with the physical body. The body is where state control begins, as is emotional cleaning, emotional transformation, or transmutation. Virtual reality can dramatically alter how we perceive ourselves -- and even how we treat others. And artificial intelligence, when fed enough data, can correctly identify something dramatic -- and a little private -- about how we see ourselves. Today, we'll explore each of those big ideas, via two mind-expanding pieces of research. It's time to better understand the mind.Welcome to the Abstract podcast from Inverse. I'm Tanya Bustos, your host. Our first story is about how virtual reality can change the human brain to make people more empathetic. Some of us have less capacity for empathy than others, but virtual reality therapy could change that. We'll hear from neuroscientists who have discovered how the feelings of embodiment experienced in VR can positively affect feelings of connection to a virtual character. And that can translate to feelings of connection to real people. Our second story reports on how artificial intelligence was shown to correctly predict something we think about privately — our own self-image. A.I. was shown in new research to identify a person's self-described personality from their selfie alone. Scientists hope human personality perception can one-day help A.I improve human-to-human and A.I.-to-human interactions. In this episode, Tracy discusses how people in our society can cause other people mental and emotional chaos. She begins with an overview of the civil unrest and social chaos that is currently happening as a result of recent events around the world, including racial discrimination and law enforcement which has resulted in international protests,  violence and hate. She then presents some insights about how we can calm the mental and emotional chaos that happens when we the people are faced with these social issues.     What is currently happening in the world? Two deaths on film of black men by a law enforcement officer Outrage from citizens of international communities International protests (peaceful and destructive) Hate, fear and Civil Unrest   What is Going on here (mental health perspective) People see what is happening and are outraged, saddened and afraid for their lives They begin to think in terms of survival – reptilian brain Emotional Mind prevails over Reasonable / Factual Mind Attacking and Defending Behaviors based in fear happen over social media Social Media fears and differing opinions spread and hate results We as a society become more divided instead of more connected   “Houston… (and Minneapolis, Atlanta, Seattle, Tulsa, Washington DC, London, New York City and other cities)… WE HAVE A PROBLEM!” We first need to acknowledge we have a problem We then need to decide where we stand (continuum): ß--------------------------------------à                           Hate                                        Love   Some tips for survival Listen to all perspectives with an open heart and mind Check your sources for facts before you go onto social media and react or re-post the ideas of others Choose to educate others….and….choose your battles wisely (“Wise Mind”) Engage with each other respectfully, being mindful of the rules of anger: Don’t hurt yourself Don’t hurt others Don’t damage property Don’t get arrested Recognize your own privilege   Getting Involved: Three stories Glass, a nail and a cat Glass A Nail A Cat Bottom Line: Even the best intentions can bring you harm. He has worked with high-profile clients, including the Arsenal football team during the time that they won the Premier League title whilst going unbeaten as “The Invincibles”, snooker player Ronnie O’Sullivan and runner Roger Black. He has also worked closely with BUPA in delivering training to fitness coaches about how they can deliver more effective weight-loss programmes. Currently, he is running the Fitness Mindset Academy. This programme aims to equip trainers will the mental tools they need to get the best results with their clients. Pete believes that the current focus on physicality and outward appearance in the fitness industry could actually be harming personal trainers’ chances of feeling fulfilled in themselves and delivering the best service they can to their clients. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS Pete talks about his success with previous clients, including the Arsenal football team How the fitness industry has an over-reliance on physical results and neglects the mental strategies that trainers need to have a balanced outlook on fitness  How personal trainers can focus on their mindset in order to deliver a better service to their clients How personal and financial freedom can be achieved by using these mind hacks “The majority of people in our industry, they don’t really go anywhere and many of them fall by the wayside and maybe a lot of that has to do with the simple fact that they don’t have a strong vision of where they are going” The PT COREntreprenur Podcast is a project from Core Collective. The Search for ExcellenceIntroducing something unprecedented to the wrestling community, Cary Kolat and Matt Dernlan kick off their new venture "The Way | A RUDIS Wrestling Podcast". The way is something everyone is searching for. Whether that is an athletic, personal, or professional achievement. Coming from Coaching backgrounds, Cary and Matt are always looking for better ways to lead athletes and elevate them. "The Way" will be breaking down different forms of literature to generate discussion and different perspectives. Then taking these lessons and knowledge and applying it to all aspects of life.Rational vs Emotional MindSwitch: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard By Chip and Dan Heath is the first piece of literature that will be featured. Cary begins breaking down the different parts of the book. The book begins explaining the two different "systems" in the brain. It has a rational system and an emotional system. The rational system is a thoughtful, logical planner. The emotional system is emotional, impulsive and instinctual. Connecting this to wrestling Cary relates to how when a wrestler is cutting weight and makes the emotional decision to break their diet. Athletes do this while the rational part of their brain knows they shouldn't. Once you understand everyone has these two systems working in their brains you can put together a plan catered to both logic and emotion. A lot of wrestlers tend to rely on one or the other.  If you appeal to both systems you can achieve great things and help others achieve their goals.A Clear DirectionEstablishing a clear direction and organization is something the rational part of your brain can understand. Cary relates to this by how he organizes his practices as the Head Coach at Campbell University. A few months ago he implemented writing down on a whiteboard what the practice will consist of. This gives a clear direction, a starting point and a finish-line for his athletes. Matt builds off this idea and explains how explaining the plan gives ownership to the athlete. including them in the process takes away the fear of the unknown. Sometimes what appears on the surface as resistance is just a lack of clarity. The far majority of athletes are involved in a program because they want to be there and they want to win. Some guys need clarity and comprehension of the message to get behind the goal and unlock their full potential.Wrap-upKolat and Dernlan go over the main points discussed in this episode. To change someone's behavior you have to change their situation or path. What often looks like laziness is exhaustion and how to distinguish the difference between the two. As well as what looks like resistance is actually a lack of clarity. Next episode will talk about "the bright spots". Bright spots are not best practices. One way Dan Heath explained it is: “The question is not 'How can my organization be like my best peer?' The question is 'How can my organization be like itself at its best moments?' ”
