Hospitality Design: What I've Learned

Growing up in a small town outside Providence, Rhode Island, Dr. Jonathan Leary always had big dreams. At a young age, he had plotted to move to Los Angeles and pursue a career in medicine, despite never having visited the city. Those dreams evolved as he explored ways of helping people on a deeper level—not just improving their physical health but enhancing their lifestyle. After completing his undergraduate studies in kinesiology at the University of Rhode Island and obtaining a doctorate in chiropractic medicine from Southern California University, Leary had a traditional path to becoming a medical doctor in mind. But his perspective shifted as he spent time in hospitals. Instead of the fulfillment he imagined, he found chaotic and stressful environments that didn't align with his vision of care. Struggling with the rigidity of these systems, he realized the traditional medical model wasn't for him. That's when the idea for Remedy Place began to take shape. Through his studies and an introduction to alternative medicine, Leary was inspired by the power of holistic care. He saw potential for meaningful change by merging proven wellness practices with a hospitality-driven, healing environment. The idea was bold. And today, with four locations in West Hollywood, New York, and Boston, Remedy Place is rooted in the belief that social connection is essential to health, transforming the concept of self-care and setting a new standard for wellness.Thank you for listening! In this episode, Troy interviews Jeff Greenfield, CEO of Provalytics. He's based out of Boston, USA. Jeff's a tech-savvy entrepreneur. He always had a nose for using technology to drive business growth since the early 2000s. He created one of the first SaaS, Position Solutions, a search engine optimization, but he didn't stop there. As he proceeds on his entrepreneurial journey in the tech world, he co-founded, C3 Metrics a leading MTA platform, and his latest achievement, Provalytics, launched with the notion of preparing for, according to him, “the cookie apocalypse.” Of course, Jeff's achievements are undoubtedly backed-up by illustrious credentials and degrees, he studied Biochemistry at the University of Maryland, obtained his Doctor of Chiropractic, and BS in Human Biology from Southern California University of Health Sciences, and was a performing member of the Magic Castle in Hollywood. The wide world of the web has dramatically changed since then. Gone are the days when you can track users across the web, as they went from site to site, following the user's interests and behaviors, based on the websites they visit, the content they view, and the ads they click on. It was all possible due to cookies, however, it all changed with the uprise of privacy policy changes and changes in iOS, which sparked this so-called, as Jeff Greenfield coined it, “cookie apocalypse,” which has significantly impacted the marketers and advertisers of various organizations. Fortunately, Jeff found a solution, a new way of connecting small-medium business owners' brands to a sale in this new status quo, with Provalytics. It steps back from the old ways of highly depending on user-level data, borrowing from marketing mix modeling, and producing whole new different types of results that allow you to get the answers that you need to drive business results. Despite this daunting task of preparing for the inevitable future by launching Provalytics, Jeff still seems to never forget the important work-life balance. Making sure to sleep right and eat right. Staying mentally healthy by writing down your thoughts, taking power-downs, and relaxing on your nights off before going back at it again the next morning. This Cast Covers:  Driving business growth through ad effectiveness. Privacy policy changes, changes in the iOS, and the effects of it on the status quo. The traceability of the users' data back then, as they could be tracked site-to-site. How Provalytics differ from the deprecated user-level data dependence. Organizations wrongly see marketing as a wasteful expense. Marketers justify the expense by being data-driven and the use of measurement. The types of industries Provalytics focuses on. Series of events and decisions that lead Jeff to enter the industry. An upcoming avalanche this July through the launch of Google Analytics 4. Utilization and integration of Artificial Intelligence to ease and improve your business. Links:  Jeff's Linkedin Jeff's Twitter Additional Resources: Lemon. How the advertising brain turned sour. Dr. Jay and Brad talk to another expert, Dr. Gregg Friedman, DC on documentation. Listen to how he built his companies and responded to this subject matter. Dr. Friedman's comments: When I was just five years old, like most little kids, I had a ‘hero.' Not a fireman, or the President. My hero was my dad. I'm lucky. I look to him for advice, and he is a real inspiration to me. He teaches me a lot about life and, more importantly, about my future. In fact, he shapes my destiny. But that's not all… You see, dad is our family doctor, too. As far back as I can remember, my entire family sees dad for all of their health problems and to ‘stay feeling good.' And, he would entertain us with story after story of ‘miracle cases' in his office. Dad is always so passionate about his work. And, listen to this… One day, dad and I have a talk after he ‘adjusts' me. He explains that he removes nerve pressure in my body, and that the human body knows how to heal itself, and because of that he doesn't use drugs or surgery at all. And, you know what? The adjustment doesn't hurt – it actually feels good. So, after dad and I have our talk, I know that I want to be a chiropractor like my ‘hero', dad. And that's how it happened! It's strange how life is, because now people come to see me with their health problems and concerns. Several times a day patients thank me for helping them with their health problems. But I can't really take the credit. My confession is that I've never healed anyone of anything. What I do is perform a specific spinal adjustment to remove nerve pressure, and the body responds by healing itself. We get tremendous results. It's as simple as that! While growing up in Scottsdale for most of my life, I attended Chaparral High School and graduated from Arizona State University. While at A.S.U., I completed the pre-med requirements while getting a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. I attended Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (now called Southern California University of Health Sciences) and graduated in 1986. I quickly moved back to Arizona and began practicing in Scottsdale. In 2006, I moved our office to the Arcadia area, closer to home. I like to explain all the options to patients and serve them where they want to be served. Although many of my patients have been coming in regularly for years, I also enjoy seeing the look on a skeptical patient's face when we get them feeling better faster than they ever imagined."

In the last episode on the central dogma of molecular biology, DNA Dan discussed the information flow of DNA, to RNA, to amino acid sequences that make up proteins. In this episode, Dr. Handley discusses proteins - the work horses of the body, and the extensive roles they play in our bodies. By last known count, there are around 20,000 protein coding genes in the human coding genome that make up and operate the human body. How can these 20,000  genes produce over 100,000 proteins? This is where nature, the mad scientist, comes in. ------------------------------------------Join DNA Dan each month as he dives deep into the world of genetics, genomics, DNA, and the future of precision genomic medicine. Dan discusses health and ancestry genetic testing, forensic genetics, genetics and mental health, common myths about genetics, and more. DNA Dan, SCU Professor of Genomics, Dan Handley, M.S., Ph.D., shares his knowledge from his over 30 years of experience in the world of advanced genomics research and biotechnology. Please visit our website for more information about Southern California University of Health Science's Master of Science Program in Human Genetics & Genomics. https://bit.ly/SCU-DNA_Dan

In episodes 2, 3 and 4 of this podcast, we've learned that DNA is determined to be the molecule of inheritance, as well as how its structure is determined.  What DNA Dan hasn't yet discussed is what DNA actually does. Or, if DNA is the so called "code of life," how is its code being read? And how is that information put into action? That brings us to the central dogma of molecular biology. In this episode, DNA Dan discusses the "central dogma of molecular biology," information theory of English physicist, Francis Crick in the 1950s, the early principles he was trying to convey, and then brings us up to speed on what we know about the information flow of DNA, RNA and protein biological processes, today.------------------------------------------Join DNA Dan each month as he dives deep into the world of genetics, genomics, DNA, and the future of precision genomic medicine. However, when I took the “adrenal fatigue” test, I always had super low (aka flat-lined) cortisol levels. It never made sense to me.But Dr. Marcus explained it perfectly, and I want to share more information.Normal Cortisol Level ChartWhen it comes to cortisol levels, what is “normal?”Integrative Therapeutics has a lot of great information on the topic. Their “normal” cortisol levels chart is succinct and accurate.(image via Integrative Therapeutics HERE.)To be clear, my levels never looked that way. They basically started at the bottom, and instead of raising then falling, just kept stagnant at the bottom. And that, my friends, is what we call, “HPA Axis Dysfunction.” Believe me. You do not want to get to that point.Recall that Dr. Marcus said the reason I got there was because I spent years in a chronic stress state.I do not want that for you. Here is something you can do about it today.Return to the podcast episode where Dr. Marcus and I discuss the three buckets of stress. He worked in all facets of the industry specializing in the development of personal training departments and corrective exercise strategies. Early in his career Dr. Ben suffered a major knee injury that took longer than 2 years to recover from. This recovery process provided him with the ability to identify the difference between effective and ineffective rehab strategies. On this journey to recovery he learned the importance of humility, compassion, and grit. This insight led Dr. Ben to helping more people with injuries get in shape and become confident with movement.
