My name is Bright M Bwalya, a 30-year, Software Engineer, Mental Health and Epilepsy Advocate. I have a strong passion for Epilepsy & Mental Health Advocacy, with a strong desire to use technology to address common issues in many chronic conditions noticed here in Zambia.I am the 3rd born in a family of 7 and growing up, I didn't know about Epilepsy, I only got to hear of it after meeting one person who had it, later in grade 8. Fast-forward 2011 I was enrolled at the Copperbelt University to pursue a Degree in Information technology and as my studies went on, my love for technology grew. When I was researching on what project to work on for my 5th Year dissertation in 2016, I started experiencing seizures and I was later diagnosed with Epilepsy in March of 2016. Struggles arose brought by the condition ranging from the stigma name calling and mocking to people not knowing what to do when I suffer a seizure, a significant incident is when I suffered a seizure and I woke up to an exorcism. That opened my eyes to the fact that people di not know what this condition which was affecting many, actually was.My struggles with Epilepsy inspired me to switch my final year project to one which could help me help those around me know what to do when I suffer a seizure. I call it “Seizure Assistant”, a mobile phone application built to be a health management and experience sharing platform which also allows patients to get help before or during a seizure. This help can be requested for either by a button push or auto seizure detection through a synchronized smart wrist band. The application then does three things; Send a preset SOS Message to a Set Emergency Contact alerting them of the seizure, with the patient's location included for easier tracking. The patient's phone will then play an SOS Sound to gain the attention of the people around. In response to the noisy phone, someone will pick it up and what they will find is a series of instructions on how to provide First Aid care to the patient experiencing a seizure with their Name, Condition Type and Emergency Contact Details included. This and many other features help Epileptics better manage their condition while teaching the masses about the condition thereby reducing the stigma surrounding it. The application houses a feature called “Community Feeds”, a feature that allow users to communicate and share the issues they are struggling with and get expert help right on the application, as well as response of encouragement and advise from fellow patients. The Feature works different from other platforms in that a user is free to share their complaints or queries in anonymity, if need be, however the help to them is still provided. This is useful for those not ready to open up about the conditions they are struggling with. This would help address the high rates of suicides which have rocked the country recently. Due to a misunderstanding of my condition and effects of medicine, I was fired from a job and out of desperation, I took on another which had me working for 6 months with no pay and in that light, it has been a struggle to finish this project from the little I make in freelance work. The non-working time was however a needed low for it helped me research and find out what the people living with Epilepsy needed and hence create a solution tailored to their needs and when I prSupport the showFollow axschat on social mediaTwitterhttps://twitter.com/AkwyZhttps://twitter.com/axschatLinkedInhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/antoniovieirasantos/ https://www.linkedin.com/company/axschat/Vimeohttps://vimeo.com/akwyz
Colin Latter - Flux of Pink Indians - in conversation with David Eastaugh The band formed in Hertfordshire, England in 1980 from the remaining members of The Epileptics (who during the first half of 1979 changed their name to Epi-X, owing to letters of complaint from The British Epilepsy Association) by Colsk Latter (vocals) and Derek Birkett (bass guitar) with guitarists Andy Smith, Neil Puncher, and drummer Sid Ation (who was also a member of Rubella Ballet). The group signed with the Crass Records label in 1981. Their debut EP Neu Smell was released on Crass in 1981; it featured indie hit "Tube Disaster".[1] Flux of Pink Indians continued in 1982 with the album Strive to Survive Causing Least Suffering Possible released on their own label, Spiderleg. They released a second album in 1983, The Fucking Cunts Treat Us Like Pricks; this was banned by many British retailers, and copies were seized by Greater Manchester Police from the Eastern Bloc record shop, which was charged with displaying "Obscene Articles For Publication For Gain". Ation left the group to work full-time with his other band Rubella Ballet, and was soon replaced by Bambi, formerly of Discharge, while Smith was replaced by Simon Middlehurst. However, both departed quickly for their original band, The Insane.[1] While auditioning for their replacements, Puncher also left; the line-up was completed by former Darlex and Epileptics guitarist Kev Hunter, and drummer Martin Wilson. An extensive interview with the band appeared in No Class fanzine. By 1986, the band had shortened their name to Flux; in that year they released their third album, Uncarved Block, which was produced by Adrian Sherwood and featured several members of the On-U Sound Records label.

John Jeffire is an esteemed author & poet, born and raised in Detroit. He has two novels, and two works of poetry published--along with several short stories (like the one featured on this podcast!). Jeffire has a deep reverence for the city of Detroit and its history. While Jeffire has a literary background, he's also a teacher / wrestling coach. And today's story taps into the sport of wrestling--while also illuminating a piece of Jeffire's family history. http://www.writeondetroit.com/ "A few months ago I learned of an ancestor named George Riley Meadows. I took some of the basic foundational details of his biography and relocated the setting to Detroit at roughly the same time period (for "Broke"). I have learned that a number of my ancestors ended up in Eloise, so writing "Broke" was a way for me to tell many of their stories at once. I've attached a picture of George and his wife Matilda as well. _____________________________________________ George Riley Meadows' life was short and tragic. He married Mary Malinda Totman in 1878, and they were living together with six children when he was involved in a mishap. A miner and farmer, he and some work friends were trying to see who could lift the most weight when something "broke in his head." After this, he was the victim of seizures and his mental faculties were never right again. His condition became so bad that on 21 November 1898 his wife divorced him, almost unheard of at the time, and he was confined to the Osawatomie State Hospital (originally the Kansas State Insane Asylum) where he resided for two years. Listed as a farmer and a Protestant, his diagnosis read that he suffered from grand mal seizures. This diagnosis included "incomplete dementia" and "insanity." At age 45, he was transferred to the Kansas State Home for Epileptics in Parsons, Kansas, on 19 Oct 1903, which received most its patients from Osawatomie and the Kansas State Asylum for Idiotic and Imbecile Youth in Lawrence. He was patient #79 of the 110 admitted that day. His former wife Matilda continued to visit him; she did not mention her former husband to family members but they recall her returning from a visit she made by wagon to "someone" in an institution inconsolable and in tears. He died at the institution and was buried in Row 1, Space 7 in its cemetery. It seems that the lifting accident he suffered likely caused a brain aneurysm from which he never recovered and there was no treatment at the time but to lock him up in an institution.

Known as the “love” frequency, it has a deep-rooted relationship with nature and is present in everything from Chlorophyll to human DNA. It also has mathematical significance and proven healing potential. What is a spiritual journey meditation?Spiritual journey meditation is an experience that takes you to the depths of who you are. You, as your real self, stripped of all the perceptions you had about yourself until that point in your life. At its very essence, spiritual meditation with practice will allow you to connect to something that is deeper and more expansive than just yourself. It may seem at first glance that it may be paradoxical, but this journey is a path of deep that can revile yourself through honest and authentic self-reflection of who you really are.The increasing peace and blessings in your life from a spiritual meditation journey will have a ripple effect throughout your life. As your spiritual awareness and confidence increase, so will your desire and ability to benefit others and even extend out into the world. Many people believe that it takes great discipline in their spiritual walk or some form of enlightenment to deeply connect with their spiritual essence. In fact, it's the small, consistent practice combined with the right action that will dramatically create the shift as to how we truly relate not only to ourselves and to the world around us.When we are able to connect to the world and ourselves, we can then begin to create a life for ourselves that becomes increasingly meaningful and spiritually fulfilling. It is my hope that this "Inspiring Spiritual Journey Meditation Around The World" mp3 will play some small part to help you in that direction.FREE GIFT: Ultimate Brainwave MP3! BOOST your ENERGY. In 1924, a 17-year-old girl was admitted to the Virginia State Colony for Epileptics and Feebleminded. The superintendent of the colony classified her as "feeble-minded of the lowest grade, moron class." With that designation, this girl, Carrie Buck, was set on a path she didn't choose. What happened next laid the foundation for the forced sterilization of tens of thousands of people. Just outside Lynchburg, Virginia, there is a sprawling mental institution on a hill with a sinister history. For decades, the Virginia State Colony for Epileptics and Feebleminded, (now called Central Virginia Training Center) participated in America's forgotten eugenics program. In a landmark ruling in the Supreme Court case of Buck v Bell, eugenics became the law of the land, and set a legal precedent for sterilising anyone deemed “unfit”. Thus began one of the darkest chapters in American history; between 60,000 and 70,000 people were forcibly sterilised across the country.

Plasma arginine vasopressin concentrations were determined by radio-immunoassay in 112 adult epileptics who were taking carbamazepine, phenytoin, primidone, or sodium valproate in long-term monotherapy, and in 19 controls. No significant difference was found between the groups, but some epileptics taking carbamazepine and primidone showed low values. Serum concentrations of carbamazepine did not correlate with the concentrations of plasma arginine vasopressin. In conclusion, there was no evidence of a stimulating effect of chronic carbamazepine medication or a special inhibiting effect of phenytoin on the release of vasopressin arginine from the posterior pituitary.
