Welcome to the ManMade Podcast This Podcast is with Shawn Helvey and Adam Thorne. Shawn is a licensed behavioral health counselor and Adam is a graduate student in behavioral health counseling. They've known each other for over 25 years and talk every week about the trials and tribulations of life.   Feedback is like the yin and yang of mental health – a wild rollercoaster ride through the amusement park of life. Some feedback is as sweet as grandma's apple pie, making you feel like you could conquer the world with a toothpick. But then, there's the not-so-good feedback that stings like a bee at a picnic. Yet, being open and impartial when you receive feedback is like having a secret weapon in your mental health arsenal. It's like wearing a Teflon suit that lets the good stuff stick and the bad stuff slide right off. Embrace the good, and treat the not-so-good like the eccentric relative at Thanksgiving dinner – listen politely, but don't take it too seriously. In the end, feedback is the compass that helps navigate the labyrinth of self-improvement, and sometimes, it's just the comedic plot twist you need in your life sitcom!  Some resources that may be useful: The Office British version - Feedback  Contact us at: getmanmadepodcast@gmail.com

No matter how much I protest, I am totally responsible for everything that happens to me in my life. ~ Author Unknown ~   Take a moment to reflect on how many times per day your mind rejects what your imagination dreams up. It then may dawn on you as no surprise that many of us live our daily lives with self-limiting behaviors. When we come to realize that it is our own self-limiting thoughts that are creating and constraining our realities and preventing us from creating the life we want to live out , we then can start to take action and move from a restrictive mindset to one where manifesting our goals and dreams is second nature. Manifesting through conscious creation is defined as a product of change brought through the direction of consciousness. When one can start thinking with this awareness in mind, one can take an active role in accepting their imagination as a catalyst for truly realizing their dreams, and going beyond their current reality.     Learn more about The Marketing Parlour podcast here!   Articles mentioned: Lack of Purpose & Direction Can Lead To Massive Job-Hopping Navigating the Rendeveouz With Your Shadow Self   The Coaching Parlour Podcast! Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Melody Beattie   It's tempting to think gratitude comes from having what you want. You see yourself giving thanks if you had money, a loving family, and maybe a house on the beach. Still, you know there are ungrateful, unhappy people with these things, and poor people full of gratitude for what little they have. So, where does this feeling come from? I believe that gratitude arises from how you look at things, and is a natural feeling that comes from truly appreciating the people and things in your life. You also can develop the habit and attitude of gratitude which will lead to increase abundance in your life, work, job, and business! Start writing down every positive thing that happens to you, and all the things you like in a gratitude journal. Do this daily, or at least start out weekly, until you start automatically seeing the good things in life. If you've ever bought a white car, and started seeing white cars all over, you know how awareness can alter your perception of reality. To see wonderful things all over, train yourself to look for them. When you are in the habit of “counting your blessings,” gratitude, and a much wealthier and meaningful experience of life is the natural result. There are numerous other benefits of gratitude. Yet, many people still do not or refuse to shower themselves or the people around them with gratitude. Instead, they put themselves and others down by criticism and condemnation. Let's make the effort to reverse that poor habit, that in the end mainly affects us, the criticizer.   Take the next few seconds to ponder over the following questions and then listen to Episode 14 of The Coaching Parlour Podcast:  1) What exactly are the obstacles that are holding you back from showing gratitude to yourself and to others? 2) How can you overcome these obstacles? 3) How can you unleash an onslaught of gratitude to yourself and to others?     The Coaching Parlour Podcast! “Staying silent is like a slow growing cancer to the soul and a trait of a true coward. There is nothing intelligent about not standing up for yourself. You may not win every battle. Alder     The Basic Difference Between Being Assertive & Being Aggressive is How Our Words & Behavior Affect the Rights & Well Being of Others  It is interesting that many people still confuse being assertive with being aggressive. Assertiveness is a behavior or skill that helps you to communicate, clearly and with confidence, your feelings, needs, wants and thoughts, whilst acknowledging the needs of others. It means that you are able to state your opinions without feeling self-conscious, as well as being able to express your emotions openly. Being assertive will enable you to make clear to others how you wish to proceed in all aspects of your life. At the same time you will value others, respecting their right to an opinion as well. Extraordinary expectations and desires make incredible results. When you expect the best it will end up being a directional system that will guide you to searching out and discovering what you anticipate. Not only will managing your expectations provide you with a more solid path to reach your vision, but it will also enhance your quality of life.   Don't lower your expectations to meet your performance. Raise your level of performance to meet your expectations. Expect the best of yourself, and then do what is necessary to make it a reality. ― Ralph Marston One of the most powerful ways to cultivate expectation is to develop a very clear vision for your life. Often our expectations are based on the assumptions we have about people or groups of people. The same is true of us. Have you ever noticed how your expectations become reality in your personal life? Expectation is literally a self-fulfilling prophecy. We do this consciously and subconsciously. What you expect for your life is exactly like that. When you start to expect for your life that which you absolutely desire your whole mindset turns from an uncertain hoping and wishing to the certainty of expecting. The images you encourage and entertain in your minds eye, what you say to yourself and everybody else reflects only the results you are committed to.     In this episode of The Coaching Parlour Podcast, we will be going over: Understanding what are expectations The Importance of your thoughts & emotions when it comes to expectations Why you should detach yourself from the outcome of your expectations The process of defining & managing our expectations and more..... Creative thinking is a potential we are all born with. If you don't use that potential, it is probably because you don't know and apply the simple principles for developing it. We can remedy that right now.   “Eccentricity of a creative mind may not be pleasing for the people around it, but it is important for the progress.” ― Amit Kalantri   Creative thinking goes beyond just solving specific problems or inventing new things. A truly creative mind is always coming up with the questions too, not just the solutions! Each of us has the power to be creative. It's part of our natural make-up as human beings. The trouble is that, too often, we block our natural creativity and so make errors in thinking and give ourselves more problems than we should.Want to be the person who always has something interesting to say? 005. 3 Step Process to Overcome Self-Sabotaging & Make Progress

Self-sabotaging behaviors prevent you from conditioning yourself for success. And changing those long, established behavior patterns like self-sabotage is as difficult as recognizing and understanding them.   “The most dangerous way we sabotage ourselves is by waiting for the perfect moment to begin. Nothing works perfectly the first time, or the first fifty times. Everything has a learning curve. The beginning is just that - a beginning. Surrender your desire to do it flawlessly on the first try. It's not possible. Learn to learn. Learn to fail. Learn to learn from failing. And begin today. Begin now. Stop waiting.”  ― Vironika Tugaleva    How, then, would you be able to dispose of those undermining convictions and feelings called Self-Sabotage? Begin with, comprehending and acknowledging yourself before attempting to comprehend and acknowledge others.  You need to go WITHING and explore your internal environment and take an assessment. This implies taking a glimpse inside yourself and listening to your inward dialog or self-talk. Stay liberal to what you see and hear when understanding your convictions. This is key when rolling out valuable improvements in your behaviors. Deciding how far and deep you want to go before introspection is your decision. Then again, you can take your life to another level when you find enabling bits of knowledge to eliminate harming self-talk and undermining practices.  Choosing to relinquish self-sabotaging behavior that keep you from changing takes courage, inner strength, and an intimate duty to grow more compelling activities. This implies overcoming resistances and attacking practices that have kept you from encountering a hopeful state of mind. Regardless of what challenges you face, adding to an optimistic mentality and changing unrewarding practices and beliefs, will stir you to disregard self-sabotaging practices. What specific actions can you now take to become aware of and overcome your sabotaging beliefs and conflicted emotions? Recognize that you are at the crossroads where your decisions and choices are your personal responsibility. Change “I can't” or “I won't” to “I Can, I Will” on a consistent basis. Be conscious of the emotional shifts taking place within you. Keep track of them, and measure your progress by the visible reoccurrences of confident self-talk and healthy and progressive behaviors. Continual abrogating internal conversations will create resentments and disempowering beliefs. Plant the seeds that deliver positive, empowering beliefs and activities. Ask yourself, "Are my actions connected to  circumstances rooted in joy or to agony delivering situations?"  For the rest, listen to the podcast for even more POWERFUL and INSIGHTFUL tips! Questions to ask yourself: Where am I demonstrating self-sabotaging behavior? What is MY definition to Success? How does my definition align with my personal values? Do I believe in perfection? If so, how do I describe it? What are ways that I can develop rapport, with my subconscious mind?   Affirmation: I am overcoming self-sabotage behavior with compassion, and capable of accomplishing anything!   Break-Free From Self-Sabotaging Behavior!     “I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy.”  ― Rabindranath Tagore   Self Appreciation + Joy= New Opportunities A simple equation yet very hard for one to comprehend at times! On the off chance that you truly need to bring into your life everything that you need, want, and more, then start with valuing all that you have now including yourself. Here's the way by which it meets desires – you bring into your life whatever it is that you focus your contemplation upon. In this manner, if you focus on everything that you need in your life, you increase that vibration of more need. Regardless, if you fixate appreciation on all that you have, you get a more prominent measure of what you require.   Recognize where you are at this time, and find gratitude in the blessings in your life and for what is to come. Even if it is NOT apparent, show appreciation because as long as you have a game plan, take strategic action, skew on the side joy and find appreciation for yourself and what YOU are doing, new opportunities are definitely abound! That is the methods by which the Power of Appreciation works. Welcome the now, and be energized with the suspicion of getting all that you aching, and more will come into your life. Much the same as your goal is not to complete your escape – it is to value it. The same is legitimate with most of your longings. You for the most part have new yearnings. You'll never fulfill each one of them, in light of the way that no sooner is one fulfilled that ten more are imagined. It's what keeps you alive. Could you imagine living consistently with the prospect that you have authoritatively fulfilled every yearning? That there is nothing else to fulfill? Clearly not. There would be no motivation to life. No urges for exploration and new knowledge! So longings are not the nonattendance of something; they are the surety of what is yet to come. How empowering! All that you require – you'll have as long as it is for your highest and best good!  Understanding that there is no need – just desires yet to be fulfilled, you can loosen up, recognize, and value all that is starting now in your life. Align yourself with that joyful attitude, exploring and experiencing life, yourself, your career or your business in all of it's wonders!   Questions to ask yourself: 1.) What are ways that you can show appreciation for yourself? 2.) How do you define joy? 3.) How can I appreciate myself and how I can contributing to the growth of my career or my business development? 4.) How can I apply joy into majority of the actions I take towards my own personal and professional growth?     Affirmation: The world is an abundant place that seeks to nourish and support my highest aspirations. I discovered this photo by Hamed Saber while looking on Flickr.com for a photo for the Quiet Day improvisation. Until now all photos have been attached to the improvisations after the fact. I thought this beautiful picture and the accompanying text were truly moving and decided to do a piece based on them. Hamed describes the picture as: "This door (window) is a praying room of a historical house which Ayatollah Taleghani born and grew in. It's located in a village near Taleghan." Below the picture he wrote:================Death is to fly ...A friend passed away last night...Wish her be in heavens now, in paradise. She was in a hell till last night, which at last she flied away...=================I spent a lot of time looking at Hamed's wonderful photos and reading about his life in Iran. I was stuck by the universality of his experience and how similar we are in our feelings about friends, family, life. Would that our governments weren't so at odds with each other... When does that insanity end?I improvised the music on the mandolin while looking at the photo and thinking about Hamed's words. The faster section with the synthesized drone was done late last night, I improvised the opening slow section early this morning. Digital editing and mixing and addition of the drone part (using Digidesign's Structure) completed the piece. I tuned the mandolin differently than normal, DDAD. This piece conjures up cold, dark images for me. It feels like the emptiness of space. Europa is one of large moons of the planet Jupiter; incredibly cold and covered in ice (the image shows huge canyon-like cracks in the ice on its surface). The process for this improvisation began with one take on the electric mandolin using the Ebow which allows me to sustain notes indefinitely. The Ebow operates magnetically and causes the string to vibrate without being plucked. A wonderful way for us mandolinists to pretend we can bow our strings... I took the recording and doubled it with itself at the lower octave and with itself in reverse (similar to what I did in Mandolin Improvisation 7). Then I added one track of synthesized sound (using Native Instruments Absynth 4). The recurring synthesized sound first appears as the high, sighing sound you hear just after the opening note; all else is sound created on the electric mandolin. Once I relax into listening to this piece, I find it very meditative, though others might find it a bit unsettling...-William BradburyPlease feel free to add a comment on the Feedback/Contact page.

Then I doubled it at the lower octave and in other ways... I mixed this vastly modified track and with the original melody (also doubled at the lower octave) and aligned them so that there was an interesting interplay between the parts. Last night I had the incredible experience of performing with Katsura Kan, a Butoh master. He was on campus (Cal State, San Marcos) for a three-week workshop with our students; I was invited to play with our student gamelan ensemble to accompany his performance. Kan is an amazing performer... it’s impossible to describe his focused, expressive, moving work. Suffice it to say the audience was enthralled (as was I...). His work incorporates lots of improvisation and stylized body and facial movements and is influenced by the work of playwright Samuel Beckett (as is Butoh in general). The music ensemble improvised in response to his performance. It was a great night... I brought my electric mandolin (a Mandoblaster five-string), an EBow (a magnetic device that lets you sustain notes forever..) and my computer, using Pro Tools and various synth and effects plug-ins. This morning I woke up early and had to do an improvisation based on last night’s experience. After recording the improv, I duplicated the melody at the lower octave by using AmpliTube 2 from IK and adding a pitch shift pedal to the Detuned Jazz preset (you hear this effect alone at the opening). It’s fun to hear my instrument as a “bass” mandolin... This brief improvisation for mandolin made me think of the composer Edgard Varèse. He was one of my early influences; I was a big fan of his music when I was in undergraduate school at Hamilton College. Many wintery evenings were spent listening to scratchy records of his music in the drafty old Listening Library. The sounds are all made directly on the mandolin (with lots of reverb added in the mix!). I also added some scratchy record noise to the final mix using Nomad Factory’s RetroVox. I imagine this as a long lost recording from Varèse’s Blue(grass) Period. :-) I’m in the photo playing a Summit F-style mandolin. The lighting effect is created by using a slow camera exposure with me sitting VERY still while quickly moving a multi-colored light “box” in my right hand.
