T&D World's Faces of the Future department highlights up-and-comers in the line trade. For this week's episode, we are highlighting Vincent Napolitano, an apprentice for Ameren Illinois and a competitor at the International Lineman's Rodeo. During his apprenticeship, he is learning new things every day and also helping others who are just starting in the line trade. He trains both in the classroom and the field and works out of the operating center in Peoria, Illinois. His crew specializes in overhead and underground and works mainly on distribution. When storms hit, he focuses on troubleshooting, and when he tops out as a journeyman, he may be interested in assisting with mutual assistance calls.  To prepare for the International Lineman's Rodeo in 2024, he trained with other apprentices to take practice tests and test his skills alongside the journeymen on the training grounds. In the future, he wants to stay out in the field, and he says the crews he works with are like a family.  To learn more about Vincent, you can read the Faces of the Future department in our June 2025 T&D World print magazine and soon on our website. Also, if you are an apprentice lineworker who is interested in being profiled, fill out this online form and email a photo of you by a bucket truck, competing at the Rodeo or working out in the field to Amy Fischbach, Field Editor of T&D World magazine and host of the Line Life Podcast. Journeymen lineworkers are featured in our Lineworker Focus department and need to fill out this online form. All featured lineworkers receive a free tool package from Milwaukee Tool for their dedication to the line trade.

Ranging from the essential skills needed to successful when hunting high country Mule Deer to a run down of what's new with Stalker Stickbows. You won't want to miss this information packed episode with one of the pioneers of shooting and making traditional bows! South Cox's interest in archery started at the age of five when he found an old wood recurve under a neighbor's house. Despite having no mentor and growing up in a vegetarian family during his younger years, the instincts of the hunter ran deep. At 16, he shot his first deer with a bow—cementing a lifetime commitment to the sport. In 2007, with 20 years of professional woodworking experience, South took over Stalker Recurves, reviving a company that had been dormant for the better part of a decade. Combining both of his passions; a profound love of woodworking and archery, he enthusiastically dove into the new venture. His keen eye for detail and diligent work ethic can easily be recognized in the artistic changes, additions and technical advances in the bow lines. In 1989, South's first bowhunting article was published, spawning a new career that would eventually have him published in a half dozen different archery magazines, contributing to a couple of bowhunting books and earning him a position as Field Editor of Eastmans' Bowhunting Journal, a position that he still maintains. In 2012, with the blessing of his wonderful wife, Kyri, after 25 years in construction, South decided to “retire” and take up bow building full time. Between writing and bow building, he is now fully immersed in the hunting industry—truly “living the dream!”   Did you like this episode? We are doing a series called Ameri-CAN. Talking about the CAN-DO spirit that is part of our American DNA. So much about our lives has been turned upside down by this Corona Virus / Covid-19, and we have been hearing a lot about what we CAN’T do and where we CAN’T go, but our guests during this series are going to talk to us about their area of expertise and all of the ways we still CAN learn and grow, train, connect, and expand our freedoms in ways we maybe haven’t thought about before. Our guest today is Frank Miniter. Frank is an author and investigative journalist with a penchant for outdoor adventure. Frank is the Editor in Chief of NRA's America's 1st Freedom, a frequent guest on major news media outlets, a Field Editor for the NRA’s American Hunter, and the author of The New York Times’ Bestseller The Ultimate Man’s Survival Guide—Recovering the Lost Art of Manhood. Miniter’s other books include The Politically Incorrect Guide to Hunting, Saving the Bill of Rights, and The Future of the Gun. 1) Learning more about taking control of our lives and our Rights is such a great way to empower people during this time when so much has been out of our control. One side says that freedom itself is under attack, the other side says we are just fear mongering to “sell more guns”. If we don’t even know what the Founding Principles of our nation are, how do people sort out the truth from the noise? 2) The Second Amendment is not a political issue, but the politicians have MADE it political. Especially in the upcoming 2020 election with every one of the Democratic Presidential hopefuls trying to out-anti-gun one another. And now, Joe Biden appears to be the best they have for the Democratic Presidential bid. For people who value their 2A Rights, is there any way they could vote for Biden and not lose their Constitutionally-protected rights to keep and bear arms? - Biden then says that he would repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), so that gun makers and dealers can again be sued because someone used a legally purchased firearm to commit a crime. This is like allowing people to sue GM if, say, someone used a Chevy to harm someone else. 3) It is confusing to people to understand how our Bill of Rights protects our 2A rights yet various states can trample those rights. You wrote an article a couple of months ago titled “Barriers to Freedom” where you talk about this tension between federal and states’ rights. Can you speak to the premise of your article and specifically the ideas behind federal reciprocity legislation? 4) More and more often it seems the American People are looking to the Supreme Court to weigh out the major issues that have become so polluted by politics. The 2A is among those issues. We recently heard that SCOTUS passed by an opportunity to hear a case out of NY. That has some of the anti-gun groups feeling confident that by default that means they are winning. But, you have written about the possibility of a few other cases making their way to be ruled on by SCOTUS. What can you tell us about those cases? - The cases currently being considered for possible hearing by the court, on the other hand, concern laws that more broadly affect the gun-owning population. Cases like Wilson v. Cook County, Illinois and Worman v. Healey directly challenge bans on popular and commonly owned semi-automatic rifles and magazines—Heller specifically protects “commonly owned” firearms. Another case, Rogers v. Grewal, challenges laws preventing law-abiding citizens from carrying a firearm outside their home for self-defense. This takes on the “special need” requirement that places like New Jersey and California use to deny citizens their basic Second Amendment rights. And then there’s Pena v. Horan, which challenges California’s “Unsafe Handgun Act,” a law that implicates the Second Amendment by effectively banning commonly owned handguns.

Steve is a Field Editor with us at the Journal of Mountain Hunting, calls Alaska home, and spends a ton of time in the field. Overall, this guy is one of the most passionate hunters and writers you’ll ever have the good fortune of spending time with. Adam and Steve discuss storytelling, media, technology, conservation, and the shenanigans that transpired at the 2019 Sheep Show. In this episode Aron and South discuss the gear they use and the real world experiences they have had with gear failing, from shelters to boots to sleep systems, all is covered in detail. ----more----   South Cox’s interest in archery started at the age of five when he found an old wood recurve under a neighbor’s house. In 1989, South’s first bowhunting article was published, spawning a new career that would eventually have him published in a half dozen different archery magazines, contributing to a couple of bowhunting books and earning him a position as Field Editor of Eastmans’ Bowhunting Journal, a position that he still maintains. In 2012, with the blessing of his wonderful wife, Kyri, after 25 years in construction, South decided to “retire” and take up bow building full time. Between writing and bow building, he is now fully immersed in the hunting industry—truly “living the dream!” Since 1987 Stalker Stickbows has integrated exquisite craftsmanship with a devotion to the sport of traditional archery. I welcome your interest in the most exciting and durable bow you will ever shoot.  Furthermore, I extend a sincere hand of friendship to those of you who share my love for a sport that reflects a profound respect for the great outdoors.  It has been my goal to create more than just a beautifully handcrafted and powerful bow. I believe that our customers are friends who are asking us to create a trusted hunting or shooting companion that they can rely on… a partner as durable as they are…one who will be with them for as long as they have the will and the strength to draw both breath and the bowstring. My bows are built to be as enjoyable to shoot as they are beautiful.  I believe that you deserve nothing less when the chance of a lifetime shot presents itself. This is my commitment to value…and is the philosophy that puts backbone into every bow that I proudly build with both your name and mine. On this episode of Gritty Bowmen we meet with Jay Scott. Jay is the mastermind behind the Jay Scott Outdoors Big Game Hunting and Fishing Podcast. He has more than 50 podcast episodes with tremendous guests on a broad range of topics all related to western big game hunting and fishing.    Jay lives in Scottsdale, Arizona with his wife Jeanne. Jay has been a professional hunting and fishing guide in the state of Arizona for 16 years. He spends more than 120 days in the field guiding and hunting across the United States. And Jay is currently a Field Editor for Western Hunter Magazine and hunting editor for Elk Hunter Magazine. As well as being a hunter, Jay’s other passion is fly fishing.    In today’s podcast you’ll hear us discuss the stigma that much of the DIY hunting community harbors toward hunting guides and the use of hunting guide services. Jay and I discuss the use of sponsorships--or, the paid promotion of products--We talk about their value and their sometimes negative impact on the hunting industry. And although we both promote health and fitness, Jay brings up a valid concern which I agree with--that some hunters place so much emphasis on fitness that they fail to learn fieldcraft, how to sit still for hours, how to read sign and track game, and other basic and not-so-basic hunting and fishing skills.   It was a pleasure meeting Jay Scott. I applaud his podcast and I look forward to hearing more great content from Jay and his stellar guests. I am Brian Call and I am your host. And without further ado, here is today’s podcast.
