Water Towers, Global Travels & Overcoming Addiction Feat. Kenny FeinsteinIn this episode Durell is joined by singer, songwriter, music teacher, and the front-man of the folk band called Water Tower Kenny Feinstein. Durell and Kenny begin the episode talking about him being the driving force behind the band. Kenny shares that he's originally from Northern California but spent his early years overseas due to his dad being an executive in international business. Kenny shares that he came back to the states to finish off high school in Portland, Oregon. Durell and Kenny talk about his earliest memories of music and he distinctly remembers being him crawling into his brother's room and finding a cassette tape of Paula Abdul in the trash can and putting it into the cassette player and loving her music.Durell and Kenny talk about the ability to see other parts of the world and the opportunity to visit places and how that really makes a difference. Durell shares that he's been to six different countries and that attending the Midem conference is what helped to create these great opportunities to see the world through music. Kenny shares that he has booked 7 UK tours but he remembers booking the first one on Myspace in 2009 and how that not only got his fans excited in the states but really helped to create the building blocks of establishing a worldwide fanbase. Durell talks about creatives being able to understand that the journey to success takes time and that comparing themselves to other people's experiences will ultimately cause you as an artist to go crazy. Durell shares that the main goal for indie creatives should be to find their tribe and serve them.Kenny shares that early on when he first started his band (originally called the Water Tower Bucket Boys) he thought that he had to follow and emulate his musical heroes and that started him down a path of battling with addiction and now that he is headed down a path of sobriety he only wants to put clean water into the bucket and this has been the driving force behind his rebrand. Durell says that when indie creatives begin to chase fame there's no metric to quantify it and fame is something that is always fleeting. Durell and Kenny talk about how most people need to be ready for success and often times aren't. Kenny and Durell talk about the reason he left Portland was because of how much it rained there. One of the ways he funded his move to Los Angeles was to hone his craft by playing for tips in the early morning traffic. Durell says that everyone's story is different and finding what works is what really matters. Durell and Kenny talk about his experiences as a music teacher and also playing as a hired gun for other people as what brings him joy to be able to do what he loves. Durell shares that he loves to share knowledge and the opportunity to make a difference can never be taken lightly. Kenny shares about his experiences producing for several incredible gifted artists like Tim Armstrong, Coffey Anderson, Mondo Cozmo. He has also had the opportunity to work on some great projects for Disney, Sesame Street as well as teaching at the School Of Rock and being featured on Netflix. Durell and Kenny speak about how his global travels around the world have intertwined directly with his songwriting which came to show with a song called “Fromage” which was inspired by a trip he took to Paris. He shares that music is a reflection of what is going on around him and he loves to channel that energy into his songwriting.Durell and Kenny end the episode talking about the origin and history of his band Water Tower. He said when he first started the band it was about having fun and then by the time he was 21 years old touring the world he knew he wasn't ready for that kind of success personally. He talks about signing with an indie label in Portland in 2013 and it took the band 7 years to put out their album called “Fly Around” and all of the experiences up until now have shaped the way he looks at the journey. Sonic X comes on board. Sonic X is a Hard Rock band from Toronto, Canada. Band members Joey Greco and Joseph Cumbo join us. Band Line-Up - Joey Greco, drums, vocals; Lawrence Falconer, guitars; Joseph Cumbo, bass Bio - Source  Sonic X is a Hard Rock band from Toronto, Canada. The band consists of members, Joey Greco, Lawrence Falcomer, and Joseph Cumbo.  Sonic X music consists of heavy riffs with an edge but also include memorable melodic passages that will keep you coming back for repeated listening. The writing and musicianship in Sonic X is flawless and the production is top notch. It's hard to compare Sonic X to other bands in the Hard Rock arena as Sonic X has crafted a unique sound by combining a classic rock vibe with production and elements of modern music. Sonic X formed in 2004 when they released their self-titled debut CD on Z Records.  The CD featured the popular song “News for You” which to this day remains one of Sonic X's most downloaded songs. In 2007 Sonic X released their follow up CD titled THIRTEEN on Chavis Records. THIRTEEN featured the single “Seeds of Thunder” which received airplay on Sirius XM's Breaking Bone program. THIRTEEN also included 4 bonus tracks from the Debut CD. In 2015 Sonic X released their most popular effort, the 4 song EP titled Fall From Grace.  The EP featured the singles “Save Yourself” and “PRAY” which received significant airplay on radio, especially on Sirius XM's Octane station...the premier radio station for emerging Hard Rock music. The band later took a break from live performances to focus on writing. In 2019 Sonic X had a change of direction with Joey Greco taking over lead vocals while original vocalist Adam Troy is on hiatus. In August 2019, Sonic X released “Leave Me Alone” their 1st single since 2015 to positive reviews.  Sonic X then released a new 5 song EP titled Fly Around the World on November 8th which also featured the follow up single aptly titled “Fly Around the World” a radio friendly song with a haunting catchy chorus that will stay with you long after listening Sonic X brings back that great feeling of what it's like to listen to a stripped-down gritty rock song. We're confident Sonic X will end up on your music player! https://youtu.be/XzR1KD8CWDc Fly Around The World is the new Single from Canada's Sonic X Band from the EP Fly Around The World. The song is about the lengths you would go for the one you love...Sonic X Band consists of Joey Greco, Lawrence Falcomer, Joseph Cumbo and Adam Troy. The new EP is the follow up to the Fall From Grace EP which was released in 2015. Hard Rock with melodic passages is the Sonic X trademark. https://youtu.be/fSqXpfSLG5ohttps://youtu.be/PD6YAvjnjN8 Sonic X Band video for "My Wonderful Life". Disclaimer: Bad or terrible audio quality. This episode was edited by me with zero experience before I had an editor who really saves my butt. The audio quality is bad, I promise you I know that. I know I could go back and alter them but I am aiming for full transparency, including how bad you can be at the start and still push through until opportunity arises to take steps to make it better (in my case letting go of that part to a much more capable person). If you are someone who is really bothered by bad audio quality, please start at episode 22, when my editor began helping me. If you are only bothered by particularly terrible audio quality (I did get somewhat better), please start at episode 8. One of my oldest and dearest friends, Bryann, joined me for today's episode. We covered a lot of topics, like heroism and ego death, and what it is like being a usually adventurous nurse, now isolated and working hard to keep everyone safe. The conversation was so much fun, and super relatable. Listen in to hear Bryanns journey to find herself.
