You’ll no doubt recognise award-winning actor Rakie Ayola from her wide-ranging stuff on the telly – from Black Mirror to EastEnders to Doctor Who to Noughts + Crosses to Holby City – or you may have seen her at the theatre in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime or as Hermione Granger in Harry Potter And The Cursed Child or, most recently, in her award-winning turn as Noni in On Bear Ridge at the Royal Court. As of tomorrow, Monday 17 May, you can catch Rakie as DS Holland in The Pact, Little Door’s new six-parter for BBC Wales. It's a tense, gripping thriller about a mysterious death and its impact on a group of four female friends who make a terrible decision. You can watch it on BBC One each Monday at 9pm or, if you’re an impatient telly watcher, the whole series will also be on iPlayer from May 17. Our Mickey caught up with Rakie to chat about the enduring pull of crime dramas, how the boring trope of dead, naked woman needs to jog on, the need for more menopausal women on telly, the joy of Wales, learning Welsh – and underestimating Wales at your peril. Listening to Michael Cassel’s early forays into DIY producing, it is apparent that a career as a major player on stages was his destiny. As an avid letter writer he sought advice and opportunity from anyone prepared to listen to his ambition and passion. At 14 he galvanised a community to support him in his first vision of a live entertainment - the Kiama Carols by Candlelight Christmas Spectacular. The success of the show cemented his hungry pursuit and quest to succeed in a precarious industry. An apprenticeship in a variety of offices and theatres, guided along the way by a masterful faculty of mentors such as Harry M. Miller, James Thane, John Frost, Thomas Schumacher, Michael Eisner and Cameron Macintosh built determination, experience and resilience. Learning on the job provided him with a multitude of creative skills and business acumen.Cassel rightly fits the label of Showman. His enthusiasm for the job is palpable. He surprises with his calm demeanour and extensive knowledge of all aspects of production - personnel and craft. He is respectful of heritage and keen to blaze a way into what live entertainment might be in the future. He formed his company, the Michael Cassel Group, to produce and present the world’s greatest musical and theatrical productions, live entertainment experiences, marquee events and concert attractions. It is well on its way!Productions have included the triumphant 19-month Australian and international tour of Les Misérables, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, the 10th Anniversary Tour of Priscilla Queen of the Desert, the Australian premiere of Cyndi Lauper’s Kinky Boots and the Australian and Asian tour of Singin’ in the Rain. Broadway and West End co-producer credits include DreamWorks’ The Prince of Egypt, Pretty Woman: The Musical and The Cher Show.Next week he premieres the Australian production of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton at the Sydney Lyric Theatre. Michael provided Stages with access to 'the room where it happens' to discover his remarkable story, his passion for the work and some hint at the future, in this most excellent episode of STAGES.

It's our thirteenth episode! We've done this for a whole half-year! What better way to mark the occasion than a massive batch of trailers from San Diego Comic Con and the third Sharknado movie? We've also got our first ever guest on the show - we're talking Harry Potter And The Cursed Child (6:47). Nick saw the play but Alastair didn't, so booktuber and mega-Potter-fan Claire Rousseau is here to tell us her feelings. There's a quick no-plot-details opinion-summary at the start, then anyone avoiding spoilers should jump to 46:35, where Nick and Alastair review Star Trek Beyond in the regular MFV way. If you enjoy Claire's appearance, you can find her talking about books on YouTube by searching her name, or at ClaireRousseau.com or @ClaireRousseau on Twitter. And finally, Nick recommends Alastair the video-game-folk-music of Rebecca Mayes (58:29). Is it his sort of thing, or are we headed for another Lebowski-esque clash?

Bookmarked is brought to you by Bookstacked.com. We've got two GIANT news stories to talk about this month and it kicks off with the increasingly controversial 'Allegiant' and 'Ascendant' movies--just what is going on over there at Summit/Lionsgate?! But even more importantly, Pottermore announced the publication of the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child script! We're ridiculously excited about this and (be warned) once we start talking Potter, we can't stop talking Potter. What you'll find in this episode: 'Insurgent' and 'Allegiant' director Robert Robert Schwentke is leaving the series! We ask ourselves why the director's dropping out: does it have to do with fan reaction? Will fans ultimately accept or be disappointed by the changes in Allegiant and Ascendant? Addie does some investigative works and reveals the TRUE reason why the director is leaving! We talk about the big news: HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD! The play will be bound in a book. We're excited but nervous. Harry Potter makes us all crazy... we have a hard time focusing. Will there be a Harry Potter encyclopedia? Could Harry Potter and the Cursed Child become the ninth Harry Potter movie? Cursed Child is supposed to be EPIC! (But what does that mean?) In other news, HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS ILLUSTRATED EDITION!! ...and also more editions of Philosopher's Stone. Harry Potter makes us feel old. New wizarding schools! Harry Potter. Harry Potter. Harry Potter. Harry Potter. Harry Potter. Harry Potter. Harry Potter. We love Harry Potter. Also, be sure to join us next week for our mini-episode where we review Victoria Aveyard's Glass Sword! Bookmarked is brought to you by Audible.com!
