Know a writer or someone who wants to be a writer? Then forward this post to them and invite them to listen to our writers podcast. Thank you! For Episode 205 of our lovely award-winning podcast, we look forward to 2025 and how we had to hit the ground running! We were retired slackers for much of December 2024, though we did get organized and got Finding Salvation Part One out the door. Our plan was to relax in December 2024 and get to work in January 2025. January must have heard us because everything that can happen to a writer happened to us in the first two days of the month, including manuscripts returned by our editors, LLC paperwork back from our lawyer, and a half dozen other things that keep writers busy. Whew. We again plug the Sierra Arts Foundation and their fantastic support of Nevada writers. Through them, we are getting out of the house and getting our Nevada-centric novels on bookshelves. We are grateful. One thing we inflicted on ourselves is our trip to Virginia City where we will spend the night in one of VC's most haunted hotels (so they say). CC is working on a paranormal romance set on the Comstock Lode in 1875 at the height of Nevada's Silver Rush, so we're doing the hotel for literary ambiance. We're suffering for our art, and our readers, because we care. We'll probably travel outside of Nevada once or twice this year. We've done almost every US state together, and we've seen Canada, France, Ireland, Japan, and Scotland. Will we discover new lands or go back to old haunts? You'll probably know when we know. The new years will see us releasing more books:Finding Salvation Part One on January 31 (99 cents!) ZOEY in February or March Serving Salvation Book Two in 2025 CC's Virginia City ghost book in mid-2025 If you want to see advanced copies, check out Book Sirens where you can become an advanced review copy (ARC) reader and leave reviews. Writers love reviews, even bad ones! Here we are, five days into 2025, and it's already shaping up to be an exciting time for the CEO and her Chief Minion here at Two Moore Books, LLC. I thought it would be good to end the year with someone who had a mind-blowing 2024. Mary Denholm finished it off at the JFK 50-miler, where she was the second female with a time of 6:04:15, which was faster than the previous course record. Her summer in Leadville really stood out. She won the very difficult marathon under four hours. Due to the schedule shift this year, the Silver Rush 50-Mile was just one week later, but Mary breezed to a 28-minute victory, good for fourth overall. She capped the summer off by winning the Leadville Trail 100 by three hours, which was ninth overall. Her time of 18:23:51 was second-fastest in history, only 16 minutes behind legendary Ann Trason. In this very informative episode, hear the mechanics of how Mary pulled off this impressive year. She also shares very essential keys to her overall success, including how she executes her high-caloric, mostly plant-based diet, has added strength training, and how she has preserved having a menstrual cycle. There is a treasure trove of great knowledge in here. Finally, Mary shares a fantastic account of her JFK 50, which featured an inspiring comeback from a very bad place she was in during the race, stayed calm, turned it around, and closed with a 6:00 mile. A lot to learn there. Mary has some big plans for the upcoming year that will be sure to further fire you up for your own epic goals for 2025.Mary DenholmInstagram @eatrunandbemaryStravaBill Stahlsilly_billy@msn.comFacebook Bill StahlInstagram and Threads @stahlor and @coachstahlYouTube We Are Superman Podcast

During my recent long hours on trails training for the Leadville Trail 100, as well as in the Chase the Moon ultramarathon I just ran, I have been listening to several podcasts, and one I recently discovered and really enjoy is Buckle Up with Brian Passenti and Simon Guérard. Fellow New York area guy and Yankees fan Brian grew up running but had some significant detours along the way due to drinking and addiction. He basically missed high school after his mom recognized his issues and sent him to various institutions in what is actually known as the Troubled Teen Industry. His path led him to enlist in the Marines where he served almost his full hitch but got discharged for getting caught smoking weed. Following his return to civilian life, Brian continued to run pretty decently, although probably diminished because many of his runs were done in the morning to work off his hangover so he could show up at his job appearing to be sober. He finished Leadville in 2010 in less than 24 hours and was fourth-place in the challenging Silver Rush 50 while juggling running and drinking. A drunken bike wreck in December, 2016 that resulted in significant bodily injury led him to get sober. His running and his life have taken off since then. He has finished Leadville eight times, Leadman, the Moab 240 in 82 hours, and this year the Cocodona 250 in less than 105 hours. Brian, who has a wife and kids, now has the Buckle Up podcast and a thriving full-time coaching business called Altitude Endurance Coaching, and his clients include many training for Leadville and other ultramarathons. We took some Big Leadville Energy into this great episode! The main topic was the Silver Rush 50 Miler, which David raced on Saturday. The last few months have been a doozy, starting with the bike accident and severe concussion back in early April. It has been hard at times, in ways that go a lot deeper than athletics. This episode is about falling, and the power to GET. BACK. UP. The 50 Miler was David's best ultra yet, and it possibly sets up a date with destiny at the Leadville 100 in August (or not). It gave us an excuse to talk about so many fun topics: the decision to race after sickness, the non-linear mental health journey since the concussion, pre-race meals, Naked belts, road shoes in trail races, unconventional tapers, altitude racing, the logistics of high-carb fueling and how that relates to effort level, and whether to bicarb or not to bicarb. Plus lots more! And that was just the start of a celebration episode! Other topics: Tour de France stories including Mark Cavendish's legendary win record, embracing power and finding your strong, the most epic aero glasses, lessons from Klaire Rhodes' win at Mount Marathon, combining ketones and caffeine, the UK's ridiculous Olympic standards, Michelle Rohl's podium finish in racewalking at 58, and hot takes. David wore Hoka Mach Xs (a road shoe without any traction) for a 50 miler with tons of rocks. So maybe keep that in mind during his spicy shoe take at the end of this episode. Or better yet, treat it like advice from George Costanza, and do the opposite. We love you all! HUZZAH! Find us online at Microcosm Coaching.https://www.microcosm-coaching.com/ Coach TJ and Coach Zoe discuss their recent experiences with racing and training at altitude. They touch on topics such as the use of salt pills for electrolyte replenishment, the pros and cons of giving blood while training, the effectiveness of multivitamins, and the challenges of racing at altitude. They also debrief Coach Zoë's recent race, the Silver Rush 50, and discuss the importance of setting outcome and process goals, staying true to your values and standards during tough races, and learning from difficult experiences. The conversation provides valuable insights for athletes training and competing at altitude. In this part of the conversation, the hosts discuss altitude training and its impact on performance in races at high elevations. They debunk common misconceptions about altitude training and emphasize the importance of focusing on overall fitness rather than relying solely on altitude interventions. They also discuss the effects of altitude on hydration and nutrition needs, as well as the benefits of trialing these strategies at elevation. The hosts provide recommendations for pre-race strategies, including getting an iron panel done and considering arriving early to the race location. Takeaways: Salt pills can be a convenient way to replenish electrolytes during training and racing. Giving blood while training should be done cautiously and not during important race build-ups or training blocks. Multivitamins may not be necessary for everyone and it's better to target specific micronutrient deficiencies with the help of a nutritionist or healthcare provider. Racing at altitude can be challenging for everyone, but it's important to be kind to yourself and adjust expectations accordingly. Setting outcome and process goals, staying true to your values and standards, and learning from difficult races are key to growth and progress as an athlete. Focus on overall fitness rather than relying solely on altitude interventions Trialing hydration and nutrition strategies at altitude is important Consider arriving early to the race location to acclimate Get an iron panel done to ensure optimal performance at altitude

In this episode of the Trail Trash podcast, the boys interview Steven Kornhaus (@ultratrailsteven), a well-known trail runner and gear reviewer. They discuss Steven's move from Tennessee to Colorado, the differences in trail running between the two locations, and his favorite spots in the Smoky Mountains. They also talk about Steven's experience running the Leadville Trail Marathon, Silver Rush 50, and Leadville 100. The conversation touches on topics such as plant-based nutrition during races, the increasing popularity of longer distance races, and the evolution of Steven's YouTube channel. In this conversation, he discusses his journey as a trail runner and YouTuber, as well as the evolution of gear in the trail running industry. He shares his experience with review videos and how they have gained more views and engagement compared to his trail running videos. Steven also talks about his shift in content creation and his love for creating documentary-style films. He discusses the changes in shoe design, including the use of carbon plates and the focus on durability. He also touches on the advancements in hydration vests and the importance of finding the right fit. The conversation concludes with Steven sharing his favorite gear for a trail race. Takeaways Steven Kornhaus moved from Tennessee to Colorado for the mountains, weather, and trail running opportunities. The trails in Colorado are more challenging with continuous climbs and rocky terrain. Leadville lived up to its reputation as an epic race with stunning views and a supportive atmosphere. Steven follows a plant-based diet and does research to ensure there are suitable options at aid stations during races. The popularity of longer distance races, such as 200-milers, continues to grow as runners seek new challenges. Steven's YouTube channel started as a way to share his passion for trail running and has evolved to include gear reviews and documentary-style race videos. Review videos tend to receive more views and engagement compared to trail running videos. Steven has shifted his content creation to include more documentary-style films. Shoe companies are focusing on durability and using different materials for the upper to accommodate a wider range of foot sizes. The use of carbon plates in trail shoes is more suitable for road running and less ideal for technical trails. Hydration vests are becoming more minimalistic with fewer pockets, but companies are also focusing on durability. Steven recommends the Solomon Genesis and the Mafate Speed 4 as durable and nimble shoe options for technical trails. Steven highlights the importance of finding the right fit in hydration vests and recommends the Salomon Advanced Skin 12. Coros watches are known for their long battery life, but there may be concerns about battery durability over time. Steven expresses interest in a Coros watch with more smart features and compatibility with non-iPhone devices. Steven shares his favorite gear for a trail race, including the Solomon Genesis, Exoskin Exo Toes socks, Hoka shorts, Salomon Advanced Skin 12 pack, Lecky FX1 trekking poles, and Coros Apex 2 Pro watch. In episode #59 of the podcast, Dr. Kate and Dr. Kacy interview Brad Miles, a former collegiate distance runner, current ultramarathoner, and co-founder of LEVER, a company manufacturing body-weight support system for treadmills that allows individuals to train at reduced body weight percentages. During the interview, Dr. Kate and Brad bond over their love of business ideas and multiple business startups surrounding running. Brad initially came into running as a high school athlete where he ran track and cross country and describes how he knew that running would be a lifestyle for him. After high school, Brad continued his running career by competing in cross country and track for Baylor University while concurrently pursuing his business interest in the marketing and entrepreneurship program there. Brad tells the story of how he and his business partner started their business of LEVER movement after college when they met while in Boulder, Colorado. He talks about part of the inspiration for LEVER being his use of an Alter-G Treadmill (reduced body weight treadmill system) while training at Baylor and being surprised at the limited access to this technology for the endurance community in Boulder. He discusses the unique design of the LEVER system and how he and his engineer business partner have created a design that allows for effectiveness and also a lightweight portability that makes it practical for use and travel. He describes the specifics of the system including a quick set up time (think less than 5 minutes!) and great ability to reduce loading overall and create a rich opportunity for training aerobic energy systems without building up as much joint and tissue loading. He mentions that the LEVER system is designed to be able to offload up to 45 pounds of body weight during treadmill training! During the interview, Dr. Kate, Dr. Kacy and Brad talk about some of the training implications for using body weight reduced running technology like LEVER. They talk about Brad's own success when he used LEVER leading up to his win in the Silver Rush 50 miler after suffering a bout of patellar tendinitis after a 20-mile training run. They talk about some of the potential benefits for healthy endurance athletes as well as potential applications for rehabilitation within a physical therapy setting. You won't want to miss this informative conversation about the LEVER product and the future of reduced body weight training! Give it a listen!

Welcome! and Thank you for listening.   The Silver Rush 50 Mile Trail race is in the books.  Finish time 13:41:42 .   Third place in the 60-69 age group category.  It was definitely the hardest race I have done to date not only the distance but terrain and altitude.   There are controversies around running ultra distances.  Is it healthy?  Can it even cause coronary artery disease?  Does it shorten life? I believe that is a reductionist way of thinking about it.  In a time where people are looking for longevity and life "hacks", the easy way out, and guaranteed outcomes, ultra running certainly is frowned upon.   After all, who would drive from sea level to a remote area at 10,000 feet to run to 12,000 ft four different times for a distance of 49.2 miles (that is what my watch said).  It was hard and I got tired and dirty.  I was racing the clock to finish within cut off times.  My heart rate was elevated into the 130s for 14 plus hours.  I drained the glycogen from my body.   I saw some of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the world.  The air was clean and smelled of pine.  The sky was bright blue and the mountain tops were covered in snow.  There were wildflowers growing and clear streams.  There were over 800 runners pushing their limits cheering each other on because it was about doing your best and wanting that for other Leadville family runners as well.  It was dealing with adversity mentally and physically.  Choosing strong over weak.  It was meditation.   It was celebrating a life worth living to the fullest. It was about the joy of being free from the mundane distractions of the world.   It was about being alive and back to nature.  It was regaining what humans were meant to do: move.  Thank you Leadville family for welcoming me with open arms.  Did my coronary calcium score go up this weekend?  I know my love of life, other humans, and sense of wellbeing did.  That is all that matters.  I hope you enjoy listening to my story of the Silver Rush 50 mile trail race.   Thank you for listening. "The amount of gold available above ground is about twice of what was available back during [the] 1980s," says Mike Maloney, founder and CEO of GoldSilver.com. "I started working on The Great Gold and Silver Rush of the 21st about a decade ago, and the final book is about 20% of what was written," he says. "Money makes and currency takes. People need to start differentiating the two. There is no nation on the Earth that uses money today," exclaims Mahoney. "Warren Buffett isn't going to turn to bitcoin. Currencies and cryptocurrencies are dishonest and theft, we have all been monetized," he continues. "The Fed has stolen more than 97% of the purchasing power of the dollar, and gold is lagging, but there will be dramatic shifts in monetary exchange," Maloney warns. "Precious metals are the only thing that have proven themselves over the centuries to be money... A store of a value is the most important attribute of money, unlike currency," he concludes. When you set big running goals, it not only takes a ton of physical training to accomplish those goals; but it also takes tons of mental training as well. And the most important mental training you can do to help you hit your goals is cultivating a bulletproof sense of self-belief. And that is exactly what today's guest has mastered over the past year every time he's toed the line at an ultra. Especially after his most recent Golden Ticket win at Bandera 100k 2023. In this episode, we chat with JP Giblin who is an ultra runner based out of Boulder, CO. Tune in here to this episode of Grits, Guts, and Determination, The Leadville Race Series Podcast, a leading authority for all things Leadville! Host Cole Chlouber, son of race founder Ken Chlouber, takes us on a story-telling journey of the 39-year rich history of this race. We learn all the tips, tricks, and stories from the Leadville community members! Royalty guest bearing multiple Leadville titles and victories, Lori Brant joins today's conversation. Listen in as they chat about topics such as her passion for biking, training and victories in Leadville, biking innovations over the years, competing with dogs, and the priceless mark Leadville has left in her life. To kick off the conversation, Cole asks Laurie to share about when Leadville found her, in 1994. Laurie recounts her past as a professional mountain-biker, and when she first heard about the 100 mile race. Appealing to her on multiple levels, she tells more about the actual Leadville biking journey and how to train for it. Learn about all of the unknowns of health, snacks, hydration, and so much more during this time in history. Over just a few short years, innovations and research in these areas has taken off. Laurie worked to take care of herself and raced each weekend as her training! They move on to discuss Laurie's inaugural victory in more detail. With a total of 5 finishes in Leadville, Laurie's best time was in 1997. She describes this as the “ride of her life”, as she finished in 7:58:53. Listen as they chat about the various bikes she has owned and the famous Clark Kent box truck. Laurie's memories of the hundred are joined also by her accomplishments in the Silver Rush 50, yet another Leadville race event. Cole reminds listeners that you don't find Leadville, Leadville finds you! Laurie shares about how Leadville implants itself in you and becomes part of who you are. The terrain, people, support, and memories all play in! As the only champion Leadville has had to come back 17 yrs later and win, Laurie is a great ambassador and advocate for Leadville. Cole recounts the years in between wins and asks what has kept her coming back. Learn about her love for riding with her daughters, and helping build programs where she can share her love of the sport with others. Laurie's daughter is involved in collegiate cycling, and Laurie discusses how it's been amazing to see what the sport has done for her, her daughters, and their community. Going back for a moment, Cole asks Laurie what initially kicked off her cycling career and got her into it. She shares a bit of her background, up through what she is up to today. While she loves biking, she has a unique set of winter sports that also capture her attention. Listen as she shares more about competing with dogs and the whole new world of sport opportunities that opens up with that. With a passion for competing in sports that are both physically and mentally challenging, Laurie has found a handful of activities that she loves, and she even participates in advocacy work and volunteer work revolving around bikes and trails. As the episode draws to a close, Laurie offers her personal advice to those wanting to get to the finish line, she shares early memories of the founders, and offers last words to today's listeners. Laurie's love for Leadville goes both ways, and her memories with the founders are sweet ones she will not forget. She shares about the inspiration she thinks of when she simply hears the word, “Leadville”. Don't forget, just keep going, put one foot in front of the other! Thanks for tuning in! Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe, and we hope to see you on the line in August!

As you know, when I'm not running in the Leadville Trail 100, I work at the Winfield aid station at mile 50.  That's where I had a very brief encounter with plant-based endurance runner Robbie Balenger, who was completing his summer-long Colorado Crush.  Robbie had previously run the Leadville Marathon as well as the Silver Rush 50-mile.  I've had runners who don't run ultras gasp, wow, he did all that?  Which kind of cracks me up because lots of people have done that, including me.  However, between the marathon and the Silver Rush 50, Robbie also ran the entire 587-mile Colorado Trail in 11 days.  And in-between the Silver Rush and the LT100, Robbie climbed all of the Fourteeners, the 58 14,000 peaks in the Colorado Rockies.  Now that's worth gasping over!  Rather than put his feet up and light up a cigar, Robbie then headed over to England to help friend William Goodge complete 48 marathons, one in each county in England, in 30 days. What struck me about Robbie at Winfield was that despite the fact he had to have been massively tired, and like most race competitors, needed to get out of the aid station as quickly as possible, he graciously posed for selfies with aid station volunteers.  Robbie lives right here in Denver, so I'm very grateful he stopped by the Hive to chat.  His generosity and good nature comes through in this episode.  He was driving his very cool wrapped van that he used on his earlier cross-country run.  In addition to that feat, Robbie this March set the FKT for running the looped road in New York's Central Park during its open hours from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m., 16 laps and almost 100 miles in total.  I'm personally just amazed that he spent that much time in Central Park without getting mugged at least three times!  Maybe muggers don't like to touch vegans.  Yes, he does all of this as a plant-based athlete, so listen along if this intrigues you.Robbie Balengerwww.robbiebalenger.comFacebook Robbie BalengerInstagram @robbiebalengerTwitter @robbiebalengerBill Stahlsilly_billy@msn.comFacebook Bill StahlInstagram @stahlor

Interview with Glenn Jessome, President & CEO of Silver Tiger Metals (TSX-V: SLVR) Silver Tiger Metals is a CVE-listed silver explorer with assets in Northern Mexico. Jessome is part of the GoGold team and he has been working in the region for 25-years. He has brought 3 Mexican mines into production and sold 2 to majors, so he believes he understands the precious metals and Mexican mining spaces very well. The company has historically raised a total of US$15M, but the last 2-years has been a very quiet period for the company as it waited for Silver to make a come back. So, with silver breaking past US$25/oz, the silver bug has bitten many investors, both institutional and retail. Silver Tiger Metals' skyrocketing share price, up from C$0.08 in May to C$0.54 today, is evidence of the strength of this silver rush that we are currently experiencing. This week, Silver Tiger Metals announced an C$11M financing, C$4M of which has come from Eric Sprott. Thank you for joining us on “Too Stupid to Know That I Can’t.” We conclude episode 2 where Dalton and I were discussing George Clooney’s Batman Film being a bad film overall along with the Silver Rush 50 Mountain Bike Race in Leadville, CO, riding bicycles and how simple life can be.  During this podcast we talk about riding mountain bikes at night on Turkey Mountain in the cold, Oskaar from Iceland and “lightening the load of life.” Meaning getting rid of aspects, things or possessions that burden our life without our knowledge. All the while Dalton enjoying the “unknown history” of an object while “antiquing.” “Decluttering” your life and the person spearheading the movement along with “sparking joy” in our lives along with how we are living life through our mobile devices. Even…perhaps confined to our mobile device versus living our life in real time. Are we burdened or confined to our devices to make our life simpler? We also touch on the availability of “customer service” on the internet 24 hours a day and as a “mom and pop” retailer the challenge to compete. And the question about becoming a billion dollar retailer is one that is daunting at best and the sacrifices it would take. We continue talking about drum gear and meeting the needs, expectations of our clients while guiding a drummer to the best gear for their dollar. In particular we speak about Dalton’s purchase of the DW UltraLight Hardware Pack with matching bag and how much easier his load in and out is as a result of that purchase. I have listened to all of your episodes this year and am slowly working my way back. Your show is by far my favorite on MBR. Matt your rants are great. I love the fact that the show is completely extemporaneous. Anyone that knows me, knows that I love a great rant. While slightly crude at times, it comes across clearly that you are all really a good ethical solid bunch. I am currently stuck in South East Georgia with lots of flat sand. But we are within a few hours of great riding. I currently ride a Kona Unit, 2x10, with a Fox 32, Velocity Blunt 35s, Hope hubs and BB, and just ordered a PNW dropper, because I know you all approve of droppers on hardtails. Those details are totally irrelevant to my question, but I would get a boner if my email got read on MBR, so I had to put the bike in there haha. If I didn’t mention it already - I fucking love the show. I have learned a ton from it, and I will listen as long as you two keep it rolling. A while back you bashed Squirt. I had a question about that and wanted to write you about it, and then last episode you said you had a squirt email, but it never got read. I want the low down on why you all hate squirt and also thinks this sort of segways into my one criticism – granted I don’t think you should change anything – but I think it’s worth saying anyhow. Things can be very trail specific. Just because something totally sucks in one area, don’t mean it’s always the worst option. That said, if the show didn’t have unadulterated bashing I would suspect you all sold out to some major corporation. So squirt. I ride in the sand and every chain lube under the sun picks up a ton of it and wears my chain to shit in seconds. Squirt applied correctly and allowed to dry, doesn’t pick up any grit. While it may not be the best lube under the sun, it does keep my chain from squeaking. I understand for something like tour divide, or wet conditions, were you need to apply and ride, squirt doesn’t work for shit, and that seemed to be the context you mentioned it in. But I love the stuff for sandy conditions. Ok rant away. I want to know why I am full of shit about squirt. Technical details please! -Jackson with the orange unit”-Mark Vail of Colorado gave $10 -John Gulledge of Colorado gave $50 with note: “Hey Matt, "What did the one Les say to the other.." Leadville: The 100 Mile Mountain Bike Race Podcast, p/b Floyd's of Leadville

There's a good chance that you've got friends and/or family coming along with you to Leadville, in which case there's nearly a 100% chance they're going to be crewing for you on race day. Which means that they've got as big a day coming up as you do...but concentrated into short little moments of crazed intensity when you roll in, breathing hard and amped up and unable to articulate a darned thing. This is the first of two episodes where Hottie and Fatty focus on crewing strategies for Leadville. You — and your crew — will not want to miss them. The Queen of Pain weighs in as well on this topic, driving home the "free minutes" a racer and crew can collect in this race with a well-executed race strategy. Also on this (very packed!) episode, Fatty and Hottie talk about the Silver Rush 50 (since Fatty raced it about two hours before they recorded) — is it a good tune-up for the Leadville 100? In this installment of The Course, Fatty and Hottie detail the trail from the top of Columbine to the Pipeline Aid Station. And of course Jonathan Lee of TrainerRoad provides his weekly training tips.  It's a loaded show full of information you (and your crew) can use. Enjoy! Support My Sponsors We went out of our way, for this podcast, to reach out exclusively to companies we actually love and buy stuff from ourselves. Which is to say, you won't find ads here for life insurance companies or mattresses or cooking kits that come to you in a box. These are all companies I buy stuff from and use pretty much every damn ride. Please support them. Shimano XT Di2 is just perfect. I have it on both my hardtail (a Felt Doctrine) and my full-suspension mountain bike (a Specialized Epic S-Works). Shimano makes the best drivetrain and braking components there are, and XT is bombproof and affordable. The Feed Hottie and I have been using Maurten drink mix, and both of us are totally sold on it. No stomach issues, goes down easy, super easy to mix. I am a fan. And our podcast listeners can get a great price on a training and racing packs custom curated for Leadville racers. Go to TheFeed.com/leadville for the race pack, and there’s a link on that page to go to the training pack. And be sure to use the code LEADVILLE15 for a 15% discount on either of those boxes. You can use the LEADVILLE15 code at checkout for any Maurten drink mix purchase. Banjo Brothers At Leadville, and at any race, you will see riders with all sorts of crazy ways to carry their bike repair essentials. People tape or velcro stuff to top tubes, stems, seatposts and seat tubes. We say do yourself a favor, use our sponsor, Banjo Brothers, to get your flat fixing goodies strapped properly  to your bike. And not just your race bike, but your commuting bike and your bikepacking bike...and they’ve even got great backpacks and messenger bags for when you’ve got to carry bigger stuff. I've got a Banjo Brothers Bag  on every bike I have, and have been for a dozen years. They’re simple and they’re bombproof. They just work. To get 15% off your order, go to Banjobrothers.com/fatty-favorites. ENVE I have ENVE wheels on my single speed setup. I have ENVE wheels on my hardtail setup. I have ENVE wheels on my full suspension setup. They are the very best wheels you can buy. They're very expensive, but they last forever (or if they don't, ENVE takes care of you pronto — they're the Nordstrom of the bike wheel world). Spend the money on a great set of wheels and watch them outlast the rest of your bike by a factor of two. F'reals.

July 8, I finished the Silver Rush 50 run in Leadville Colorado (Description: https://www.trailrunproject.com/trail/7029454/silver-rush-50-run). The Silver Rush 50 ( official site: http://www.leadvilleraceseries.com/run/silverrush50run/) was my first ultramarathon. It was difficult but enlightening in many ways. Humans are great long distance runners: https://www.popularmechanics.com/adventure/sports/g418/animal-kingdom-top-marathon-runners/?slide=6 http://www.slate.com/articles/sports/sports_nut/2012/06/long_distance_running_and_evolution_why_humans_can_outrun_horses_but_can_t_jump_higher_than_cats_.html

Truly fun episode with Chris Mocko.  Nice to hear how well his training and outlook are these days!  Hear about his Leadville Marathon win and how he feels into the Silver Rush 50 miler and Leadville 100 miler.  Also hear from T4U athlete, Dave Braunlich, as he prepares to leave for a 530 mile journey on the Colorado Trail as training for the Leadville 100 miler.  Two different ways of approaching training into one tough race across the sky. https://www.youtube.com/trainingforultra https://www.patreon.com/trainingforultra

Leadville: The 100 Mile Mountain Bike Race Podcast, p/b Floyd's of Leadville

A Note from Fatty: Hey, next week (7/4-9) The Hammer and I are headed to Leadville to race the Silver Rush 50. If you're going to be in Leadville during that time, let me know. And more importantly, if you're thinking of RACING the Silver Rush 50 (the MTB or running version), use my MRK18INFEN code a checkout to get a $10 discount. This same code works, by the way, to get into the LT100 Stage Race. And from what I understand, those are your two best options for qualifying into the LT100. Indeed, from what I hear, racing the Stage Race is darn close to a guarantee for getting into LT100, as well as a really good way to preview the whole darn course and get some experience at altitude. In this episode, we address the important questions in life: hardtail or full suspension?  What is the right gearing? Have you thought about your shoes, since you're gonna do some hiking? And of course there's so much more on this Leadville-specific bike setup episode. Coach Jonathan Lee joins us for this deep-dive into all things gear.  In our Course segment, we’ll talk about what should be the fastest part of your day: from the moment you turn off the Powerline and onto the pavement, to the high-energy Twin Lakes Dam aid station...in the ominous shadow of the Columbine Mine Climb. And In our Questions for the Queen, we ask Rebecca Rusch about head games — how do you trick yourself into a successful race? Support My Sponsors We went out of our way, for this podcast, to reach out exclusively to companies we actually love and buy stuff from ourselves. Which is to say, you won't find ads here for life insurance companies or mattresses or cooking kits that come to you in a box. These are all companies I buy stuff from and use pretty much every damn ride. Please support them, because you should. And also so they will love me and want to keep supporting me. It's the circle of advertising, folks. Shimano I don't even know what to say about Shimano that I haven't yet said. XT Di2 is just perfect. I have it on both my hardtail (a Felt Doctrine) and my full-suspension mountain bike (a Specialized Epic S-Works). The Hammer has it on her Epic, too, and it's her favorite bike ever. The way it shifts. The way it brakes. Shimano makes the best drivetrain and braking components there are, and XT is bombproof and affordable. Get it already and find out how much better your bike will be. The Feed: Hottie and I have been using Maurtens drink mix, and both of us are totally sold on it. No stomach issues, goes down easy, super easy to mix. Hottie's super anal about stuff like this, so he loved the package precision; they tell you exactly how much water to use, no guessing with scoops and different sized bottles. My overarching impression is that it’s a ridiculously non-intrusive way to get down a lot of calories. One bottle, 320 calories — it’s a little sweet, it’s a little thick, but there’s no aftertaste and I felt great — my stomach was fine, I didn’t feel that weird energy spike you get with some energy drinks. It tastes smooth, and it burns smooth. I am a fan. And our podcast listeners can get a great price on a training and racing packs custom curated for Leadville racers.
