BREAK: CU of GA STORY 1: Woman Dead After Apparent Stabbing in Marietta Apartment On Sunday morning, Samantha Wollery, a 42-year-old woman, was found dead in her Marietta apartment with apparent stab wounds, according to Marietta Police Department. The incident occurred at Lakeside at Town Center on Williams Drive. Officer Chuck McPhilamy stated that the attacker was someone known to Wollery, withholding the person's identity as authorities search for the suspect. Wollery's coworkers discovered her body when they visited her apartment after she failed to show up for work. The apartment was unlocked, and evidence suggests the suspect fled the scene after the attack. Police are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta at 404-577-8477. STORY 2: Mail processing in Georgia improving but delays continue Recently, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy updated U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff on improvements at USPS's Palmetto regional facility, stating 64.5% of first-class mail was delivered on time between May 18 and 24, up from a low of 35.8% in mid-March. Despite progress, delays persist due to past legislation and infrastructure challenges. DeJoy paused a restructuring plan, added staff to Palmetto, and adjusted transport schedules. Ossoff has advocated for resolution, noting ongoing issues for Georgia residents. DeJoy reported 85.4% of packages delivered on time as of May 31, with no delays in the June 9 primaries' mail-in ballots. STORY 3: 1 Killed, 1 Injured in Crash After Police Chase Early Monday morning, a car fleeing from Cobb Police crashed in a neighborhood north of Kennesaw State University, resulting in the death of the driver. The incident began when an officer attempted to stop a speeding 2013 BMW X5 on Barrett Parkway. The driver evaded the officer, prompting a pursuit that was quickly terminated due to safety concerns. The car subsequently veered off Frey Road, colliding with trees before coming to a stop in a wooded area. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Cobb County Medical Examiner, while a passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized. Lisa Campbell, D-Kennesaw, also condemned Beverly's alleged actions, citing inappropriate physical contact and discriminatory behavior. Calls for Beverly's resignation or removal from leadership have been met with varying responses, amid concerns over political implications and maintaining ethical standards within the Democratic Party. STORY 7: Fire Displaces 30 at Marietta Extended Stay Hotel A fire at the Metro Extended Stay Hotel in Marietta displaced 30 residents on Saturday morning. The fire, which started on the third floor around 10:30 a.m., affected five rooms directly, with 30 to 40 additional rooms sustaining water damage. Officials, including Capt. Steven Dau of the Marietta Fire Department, have not determined the exact cause but stated there's no evidence of criminal activity. Emergency responders helped evacuate residents like Stevie Ray Anderson and Jim McCurry, who alerted others and witnessed the fire's rapid spread. Relief efforts coordinated by local organizations like MUST Ministries and the American Red Cross provided temporary housing and support to affected families as they navigate recovery. “Our clients, they're consumers at some level, and they're comparing the experience they have with you. They are going to compare it to the great experiences they have. Their favourite businesses are the ones that take care of them the most. The best service experience they have ever had, that is their benchmark.” -Shep Hyken All of us are customers. And yet despite having a wealth of experience, we hardly ever apply it to our own bookkeeping business. Getting started on the journey of quality customer service and experience can begin with some simple questions: Why do people work with us, and why don't they? And what do I love about my favourite businesses, and what don't I like? That is not to say you have to do what everyone else is doing. But if you can identify the criteria in yourself and others that really gets you excited about your work. You will have better footing to make more informed decisions about the future of your business. Customer service and customer experience expert, Shep Hyken, is this episode's featured guest. “If we could get what's in your head, about how you do bookkeeping, out of your head and onto paper, into a system or process that someone else could follow, do you think then you could trust somebody else with your clients?” -Peter Cook The world of bookkeeping is ever-evolving. More and more frequently we are being relied on not only for our number crunching but in an advisory capacity. There is a wealth of knowledge we each possess from years of working within our niches. The problem is, all that great information is trapped inside our heads. Building effective systems and processes is about more than just having a computer run the numbers. Our systems should reflect the very best of ourselves. They should contain our knowledge and experience, so others can easily use that information to help clients. Peter Cook, co-author of the E-Myth Bookkeeper and co-founder of Pure Bookkeeping, is this episode's featured guest. He has spent his career mentoring business owners to find out what they really want from their businesses and their lives and how to get it. If you are struggling to move from working IN your business to working ON your business, are looking to scale your business, but everything is stuck in your head, or just want to test your systems against the advice of a master in the field, then this is the episode to get you started! On this episode of The Marketer's Journey, I interview Lisa Campbell, CMO at OneTrust. Lisa shares her perspective on making the jump from Autodesk, a massive company where she was also CMO, to a smaller-scale operation, including tips for managing your own expectations. She also reveals her perspective on content, data, building customer trust, and much more. Check out this and other episodes of The Marketer's Journey on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google Podcasts!Key takeaways from this episode:Get in the right mindset. Lisa notes that when making the move to a smaller one, it's important to be prepared to do more with less. Larger companies tend to have more infrastructure and resources in place, so preparing your mindset to make the best use of what's available in a smaller company is key. Lisa shares a few ways you can do this by preparing your mindset in advance.Balance paved roads with dirt roads. Lisa provides a great analogy about learning to strike a balance between paved and dirt roads, knowing when to rely on more structure and rigor versus going with the flow. For some marketing activities, such as brand positioning, a more structured approach is required, whereas for others, an experimental approach makes more sense. Be curious. Whether you're an expert in your field or you've just launched a career in a new sector, it's important to keep a curious attitude and remember that we can all be lifelong learners if we choose to be. Lisa recommends spending time with the experts and asking plenty of questions to learn the ropes, especially “what have I not asked you about that I should know?” Because you don't know what you don't know.Learn more about OneTrust here: https://www.onetrust.com/ Learn more about Lisa here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lisa-hart-campbell/
Suicide, cutting and mental illness are on the rise. In this episode Lisa Campbell, a licensed Social Worker, joins host, Lyvita Brooks to discuss 4 things. First, understanding the terms, warning signs, who might attempt suicide and lastly, there is another way of relieving your pain because life is worth living. The Suicide and Crisis Lifeline or Hotline is 988. Saints, this episode is not about rather a person is saved, if they cut themselves or die from committing suicide or have a mental illness. Nor is this episode about, if one loses their salvation if they do commit suicide or die because of it. There is enough information and discussion about that on other podcasts, blogs, magazines, medical information and research, and the National Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Advocacy organization website. Some of us think that Christians should be the "FREE- est" people in the world from dealing with the problems of suicide, or cutting, even mental illnesses. Why? Because Christians have surrendered to the will of God through Jesus Christ. The truth is, Christians are not immune and it all depends on the one thing only God can see, but man can't...a person's heart. The key is developing an on-going relationship with Christ through His word. Then applying His word. One's heart, your heart, your heart's motive, only God knows the truth and you in part. Don't get me wrong in Christ Jesus, you will find hope not a "magic pain-reliever" but the truth. The love, security, and hope you carve are found in Christ Jesus. How much of His love, security and hope you receive will depend on you, even though He has more than an abundance. And yet this episode is not about that either. It's about awakening you to the reality that there will be some Christians that will commit suicide and some will cut themselves, even our youth. We share tools and resources to help if it happens to you or someone you know, and the signs. We are not medical doctors nor are we giving medical advice. These are our experiences as educators, social worker, and believers in Christ. Once again the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is 988. Shalom.
Seas the Day is back from a summer break! Summer at a marine lab is a busy time when many faculty and students take advantage of the weather and a break from teaching to do 'field work'. Field work is a core activity in many disciplines, sometimes described as a 'rite of passage' on the road to earning a PhD, and something many researchers look forward to throughout their careers. We asked Duke marine lab faculty, staff, and students to share their favorite (and often funniest) stories of field work. To kick off season 3 of Seas the Day , Lisa Campbell and Rafa Lobo weave together these stories of fieldwork fails and follies. Featuring Jillian Wisse, Brian Silliman, Dana Grieco, Stephanie Valdez, Matthew Godfrey, Xavier Basurto, Lisa Campbell, and Marty Smith.
Encouraging people to self assess their gambling habits online could be the first step in getting problem gamblers help. That's the message from the Salvation Army which is teaming up with the Problem Gambling Foundation to raise awareness of the harm caused by gambling. It's an addiction that carries so much stigma that few of those affected actually seek help. Here to tell us more, from the Salvation Army Oasis, is Lisa Campbell.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
“When you surround yourself with people that are either on their way to where you want to go, or are at where you want to go, you're going to get there because they've done it.” –Lisa Campbell We all make excuses. When life gets overwhelming, it's convenient to shift the pressure and blame away from ourselves. But in doing this, we make it easy to avoid taking difficult but necessary action to improve our lives. Believing in yourself and being ready to level up can be scary. It involves a lot of time, money, and effort, for an outcome that isn't guaranteed. But what is guaranteed, is the growth and development of character if you have the courage to stop making excuses and start taking positive action. When you refuse to make excuses and apply all your effort into learning and surrounding yourself with the right people, you'll go beyond what you thought was possible. Lisa Campbell, founder of Accelerate 2 Advisor, entrepreneur coach and author of Beyond Bookkeeping, talks today about the importance of taking responsibility for the future of your business, and having the bravery to act when your moment comes. During this interview, you'll learn… • The value of surrounding yourself with like-minded people • How to free yourself from an excuse mindset • The importance of knowing your value & worth Learn more about Lisa here.
