Kathy Griffin is one of the most resilient entertainment personalities on record. Living life as an open book, we have been witnessing her career triumphs as well as her personal and public low points. Hitting the road with her new show tour, My Life on the PTSD-List, and having just announced her Fall extension hitting up Carnegie Hall and The Chicago Theatre among a long list of others, she is once again using her voice to cause a sensation on behalf of the LGBTQ community, those who suffer from PTSD, and those who give a damn about the future of the nation. A recent cancer survivor and being diagnosed with PTSD, she is hitting the stage maybe a bit more delicate, but no less fierce. What was supposed to be a quick, formal interview turned into a lively and revealing conversation with Kathy about some of the bumps in the road, grief, the power of comedy, her activism as an ally that actually started when she was a kid, of course we talked politics, and even have a pop-up appearance from E. Jean Carroll who was in Kathy's hotel room when we chatted, we talked about Kathy's amazing parents, and we got all the scoop on Kathy's new tour. And kids, she needs our help. Check out the part of our chat where we talk about Kathy's three-year court case that is happening in Tennessee, all because she stood up for our community on social media. Why hasn't the media made a bigger deal out of it? Good question. If she loses this fight, it will set a precedent for capturing hate action on social media. Time to rally the troops!Hosted by Alexander Rodriguez. @alexanderisonairCheck out our in-depth chat with her in the current issue of Metrosource or at Metrosource.com For info on Kathy's tour head to KathyGriffin.net

Mark Larson, the author of Ensemble: An Oral History of Chicago Theatre, returns to the podcast to talk about his newest book, Working in the 21st Century: An Oral History of American Work in a time of Social and Economic Transformation, a powerful and insightful collection of interviews that gives a megaphone to some important but quiet voices. Mark reveals how this latest book is timed to the 50th anniversary of Studs Terkel's classic oral history Working; the joys of serendipity; how subjects reveal themselves to interviewers; the important work of giving a megaphone to quiet voices; and the path towards making this new Working a classroom staple (and maybe a Broadway musical). Andrew Huberman, Ph.D., the host of the immensely popular Huberman Lab podcast, has become a household name for his engaging and informative discussions on the latest scientific findings. With 172 episodes under his belt, Huberman has inspired countless listeners to adopt his protocols, from getting morning sunlight to optimize their daily energy to trying AG1 for their daily supplement fix and investing in an Oura ring to track their sleep. When I learned that Huberman would be sharing exclusive insights not available in his podcasts at one of his rare live events, I made sure to secure a spot at the sold-out Chicago Theatre, which seats an impressive 3,600 people. As he took the stage, Huberman exuded a natural charisma, pacing around in his signature all-black ensemble while sharing personal anecdotes and occasionally poking fun at himself. One particularly memorable moment was when Huberman shared a story about a back problem he had faced. He revealed that the single most effective exercise he did to alleviate the issue was to "hump the wall," which involves facing a wall while flexing and extending the lower back. The audience erupted in laughter, and Huberman nearly demonstrated the exercise right then and there. Throughout the evening, I discovered that Huberman, with his conversational style and straightforward, scientific approach, is remarkably relatable. Here are some of the key takeaways from his Chicago presentation: Firstly, Huberman practices what he preaches—well, most of the time. Despite his emphasis on optimizing his schedule for good sleep, he admitted to occasionally staying up past 11 to binge-watch Chimp Empire, potentially disrupting his sleep cycle. This serves as a reminder that even the most dedicated individuals are only human, and it's okay to cut ourselves some slack from time to time. Secondly, Huberman's passion for science is truly contagious. As he shared stories from his life and childhood, including his fascination with cuttlefish and their shapeshifting abilities, his love for biology shone through. His anecdote about discovering the cuttlefish's intelligence after initially doubting their camouflage skills hammered home the incredible nature of other species and his deep appreciation for the quirks of the natural world. Thirdly, Huberman is exploring the concept of stillness as a means to foster creativity. He recounted a conversation with record producer Rick Rubin, who shared that he felt most creative when his body was completely still. Huberman noted that this idea is supported by the example of Albert Einstein, who was known to abruptly stop mid-walk to think. According to Huberman, stillness allows the mind to expand and ideas to find us, much like the vivid dreams experienced during REM sleep. Fourthly, Huberman believes in the importance of delight, particularly the "early moments of delight" experienced during our pre-sexual stage. He suggests that these moments reveal something about our individual neurology and provide us with energy. While neuroplasticity declines after age 25, making it harder to "rewire" the brain, Huberman encourages us to think back to what delighted us as children and to pursue those activities. Lastly, Huberman demonstrated his openness to not knowing everything during the Q&A session. When asked about his spiritual take and whether prayer is manufactured in the brain, he responded, "I'm intrigued by the possibility that there are things not meant to be explored. Our species can allow room for things we can't explain with science. There's great value in allowing space for things greater than us." He emphasized that spirituality isn't about hedging bets but rather about knowing oneself. As the evening drew to a close, Huberman thanked the audience for their interest in science, just as he does at the end of his podcasts. His Chicago presentation not only provided exclusive insights but also showcased his relatability, passion, and openness to the mysteries of the world. It's no wonder that Andrew Huberman has become a trusted source of knowledge and inspiration for so many. Thanks for listening to Quiet Please. As supreme luck would have it, en route from Japan to their home in London, Cris Cole and Christine St. John pop in to visit Kath and Jan in the studio for an hour of catching up on old times. Christine and Kath reminisce about their early salad days in what we now know was the Golden Age of Chicago Theatre, from about 1985 to whenever we left in the nineties. Kidding, not kidding. We discuss their food history with their parents, what Kath learned when she traveled around the world with them and Christine's famed Chicken Á L'Orange and Lean Cuisines. We discuss how Christine's life turned to Technicolor (think Wizard of Oz moment) when she realized her new husband was an ace cook. Christine has since taken over the cooking duties and we discuss the contrast of their two cooking styles: Cris energetically improvises and Christine measures calmly. We also discuss Veganism and their forever commitment to it and both Jan and Kath both once again realize that they eat way too much meat. A truly wonderful conversation – listen in!
In the final hour, Danny Parkins and Matt Spiegel were joined by Score teammate Mark Grote, who shared a live report from the Bears-Colts joint practice. Later, comedian Tony Hinchliffe joined the program to preview his show Saturday at the Chicago Theatre.

It's bottoms up when Lovett or Leave It rolls into town for a show at the beautiful Chicago Theater. The Chicago Gay Men's Chorus reminds us we were born this way: tired and gay. Ali Barthwell does the Cell Block Tango with Trump's murderers' row of henchmen. Abby McEnany serves up the Gay News deep dish. A former Jane (Kim Quindlen) gives us hope in a post-Roe world. Ashley Ray and Lovett raise a shot glass to the Second City, and our Hot Takes are the only thing steamier than this humid Windy City summer.--Thanks to The Chicago Theatre and MSG Entertainment for hosting this week's show.

And the show ends with a game and a few shots of Chicago's hometown hooch. Special thanks to MSG Entertainment and The Chicago Theatre!
