This is a rerelease of our June 2022 bonus episode where we covered “I Will Remember You.” Fear not, a fresh take on this episode is also in your feed just prior to this one. Watch the episode along with us, and then listen to Steph and Kara of three years ago! Original episode notes No, you are not hallucinating. We take a special road trip to LA, where Buffy is determined to confront Angel about his stalker-like yet heroic behaviour in “Pangs.” Of course, things don't go as planned. When Angel suddenly becomes human again—mortal, vulnerable, but very much alive—he and Buffy have decisions to make. What does this mean for his hero's journey? And can the broodiest vampire on Earth still brood, still be with Buffy, if he is just a mortal man? Hear us discuss… How much we miss Cordelia! SMG and DB's incredible acting Just how much sex Buffy and Angel have in this ep. (So much.) Doyle has the worst timing for exposition ever Remember, this is all Xander's fault Trigger warning Sex
Something different: Steph and Kara watched “I Will Remember You” together and recorded their commentary. We start watching the episode at 06:11. Watch along with us as Buffy visits Angel in Los Angeles for the first time. She's not happy with him, but their fight is interrupted by a demon attack that accidentally transforms Angel into a human. At first, he and Buffy revel in his newfound sense and sensitivity. Yet Angel quickly realizes he's not cut out for fighting evil in a mortal form, and he petitions the Powers That Be for a tragic do-over. Hear us discuss… The incredible lighting, blocking, and camera work We continue to stan Mora for bringing Angel and Buffy together Angel is still a hero in our eyes The pathos of Angel and Buffy's tragic story arc Kara retracts all previous criticism of SMG's tears!! OTR is back with Season 3! In this episode, we welcome on our new co-host, Huy, for a music debate: EDM v. Punk. Huy represents EDM and its origins from early electronic groups like Kraftwerk to its explosion in the mid-2000s with acts like Tiesto and Daft...what was it again? Mucci advocates for the necessity of punk in stripping music down to its basics after becoming over-complicated, as well as its venting of political anger and disaffection. Will he be screwed by side-stepping over pop punk for blink-182 lover Lando? And can EDM also be political? Listen to find out! Elena Lister, MD, and Michael Schwartzman, PhD are co-authors of the book “Giving Hope: Conversations with Children about Illness, Death, and Loss”, a guide to help parents have tough conversations with their children regarding heavy topics. The two met when Dr. Lister was called to be a grief consultant at the school where Dr. Schwartzman was serving as a consulting psychologist. After meeting, they began to combine their years of experience to create a book together. Dr. Lister has been a child psychiatrist for over 35 years. She began advocating for families who are navigating death and loss after losing her own daughter to leukemia. Dr. Lister is also the author of the book “I Will Remember You”, which helps adolescents work through their emotions when dealing with the death of a loved one. Dr. Schwartzman helps children, adults, and couples through his private practice in New York. The two authors combine their expertise to share resources and tools for families to have real and honest conversations on loss. In today's episode of Conversations on Healing, host Shay Beider talks with Dr. Lister and Dr. Schwartzman as they share how their professional paths crossed, leading to the creation of the book “Giving Hope.” They explain the importance of telling children the truth regarding death and how this can be used as an opportunity for children to increase trust and feel safe. They explain how to begin these conversations in order to create an open and continuous dialogue. Dr. Lister explains some of our cultural influences and how they create a stigma around the natural phenomenon of death and dying. Working through this conversation with children allows them to be able to move through their grief and grow personal resilience. Additionally, the guests offer advice on how to navigate the difficult conversation of suicide with children and how to handle their tough questions. This episode offers a plethora of advice and tools for parents and families who might be experiencing some of life's most difficult moments. Ben has been on a heater recently while Liam has been rewatching the Twilight series, and he's highlighting three excellent films: Ali Khamraev's 1986 freeform film I Will Remember You, Mathieu Kassovitz's 1995 allegorical epic La Haine, and, of course, John Cassavetes' 1974 rosetta stone A Woman Under the Influence. No one can tell you why you should watch a movie quite like Ben, and you should definitely watch these movies. Tune in next time for hopefully more of our scheduled programming. “Is that it? Am I done?” It’s taken much longer than I would’ve liked to get this episode edited and out to y’all, and I was way off what I will laughingly refer to as my game, but hey...our rats are low at least. This time around I’m joined by America’s favorite philosophizing Frenchman Matthieu Cravatte as we discuss the pain and heartbreak of network-mandated crossovers, the inspirational value of heroes, the lack of Nazi subtelty, and the first of many genuinely traumatic sacrifices made by characters on this series as we sob our way through episodes 108, “I Will Remember You” and 109, “Hero.” NEXT: a rogue demon hunter joins the cast and we get some momentary relief from the pain (Cordy doesn’t, but we do) with episodes 110, “Parting Gifts,” 111, “Somnambulist,” and 112, “Expecting.” BREAKDOWN 00:00:55 - Intro / Guest 00:05:00 - Main Topic 01:13:55 - Outro / Next MUSIC “Conversations (feat. Wesley Mead)” by Azura (2017) “Hero” by Lissie, My Wild West (2016)
Hollywood bigshot and industry insider Michael Holland welcomes us to HIS turf as we continue our transition from the cemeteries of Sunnydale to the morgues of LA. The conversation this time covers two episodes often dismissed as early-series filler, but which we argue actually have important things to say about the characters and the developing themes of the show. In 106, “Sense & Sensitivity,” we get some needed background on Det. Kate Lockley, including a genuinely marvelous emotional performance by Elisabeth Röhm, and insight into the interpersonal dynamics between our heroes. (Bonus: Angel as Magnum P.I.!) And in 107, “Bachelor Party,” Allen Francis Doyle gets a powerfully humanizing (or rather half-humanizing) storyline that makes the most of what will turn out to be the very limited time we get with the character, fleshing him out more in one episode than many shows give their cast in a full season. NEXT: philosopher Frenchman Matthieu Cravatte joins me to probably get really sad as we discuss episodes 108, “I Will Remember You” and 109, “Hero.” Bring your own tissues. Episode 70! If we do anything during our time together, I would hope that it'd be to make your life a little easier. So, without further ado, we present to you the world's best excuse: Toddlers bro! Its simple. If you haven't had time to finish an assignment, just tell your boss: Toddlers bro! and he/she will instantly understand. Didn't study for a test: Toddlers Bro! You keep postponing your podcast recording: Toddlers Bro! It's amazing! You now wield the golden ticket of excuses. Use it wisely. Your'e welcome. This week, the whole crew is back to slash our way through LOGAN. We got our review and a few parting words for our beloved Wolverine [Insert sad puppy Sarah McLachlan song here...I Will Remember You!]. We offer our thoughts on the state of the X-Men franchise, should they recast Wolverine/Logan immediately or not, or should Laura aka X-23 carry on as The Wolverine. We also spend way too much time talking about La La Land (KON + CAT + MUSICALS= BAD NEWS). Plus, we talk some Iron Fist, Wonder Woman and our hope for the DECU. All that and so much more on this episode of TBR.

We've hit episode 18, and our word for today is "abysmal." As in, "Buffy, season four." The Heroes cover some of the worst episodes in a while, but it's all worth it as they make it to a watermark episode of this season of Angel. Highlights of this episode include: Hannah having a small freak out over possibly the worst anthropologist in the history of ever, and Will instructing us on how to properly cook your Thanksgiving dinner. Join Hannah and Will as they cover Buffy's "The Initiative" and "Pangs", and Angel's "Bachelor Party" and "I Will Remember You." Also, you made a bear.
