While there were several female guards who served in Nazi concentration and extermination camps during World War II, it's important to note that not all of them were directly involved in heinous activities, and their roles varied. The most notorious female guards were often associated with concentration camps. Here are the names of five such women:Ilse Koch: Known as the "Witch of Buchenwald," Ilse Koch was the wife of Karl-Otto Koch, the commandant of Buchenwald concentration camp. She gained notoriety for her cruelty and was accused of engaging in sadistic acts against prisoners.Irma Grese: Irma Grese was a notorious SS guard at Ravensbrück, Auschwitz, and Bergen-Belsen concentration camps. She was known for her extreme brutality and participated in the selection process for the gas chambers.Maria Mandl: Maria Mandl was an SS Aufseherin (female overseer) and served as the commandant of the female camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau. She was involved in the extermination process and was responsible for the deaths of thousands of prisoners.Herta Bothe: Herta Bothe served as a guard at Ravensbrück, Auschwitz, and Bergen-Belsen. She was convicted of war crimes and served prison time after the war.Dorothea Binz: Dorothea Binz was an SS supervisor at Ravensbrück concentration camp. She was known for her brutal treatment of female prisoners and was involved in various war crimes.(commercial at 9:47)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com

Ilse Koch, historically etched into memory with monikers such as "The Witch of Buchenwald," "The Beast of Buchenwald," and most infamously, "The Bitch of Buchenwald," embodies an enigma of evil that defies the very essence of humanity. Her rise to power and her reign of terror within the confines of the Buchenwald concentration camp during World War II remain a stark reminder of the depths to which human depravity can plunge, given the right mix of power, ideology, and circumstance. The story of Ilse Koch is not just a tale of individual malevolence but a complex interplay of societal, psychological, and historical forces that coalesced to create a figure synonymous with atrocity and inhumanity.
Ashley decided to nose-dive into Jessica's territory and cover a truly awful historical case. Ilse Koch was the wife of a German concentration camp commander and some would argue she was the worst person there.Jessica tells the tale of an AMAZING police officer that could NOT be taken down. His name was Buford Pusser and for one small town, he has become quite the legend.Want more of us "lovely ladies"? Well now you can get more of us on our Patreon! Ilse Koch a Irma Grese byly obyčejné dívky, které se nechaly indoktrinovat nacistickou ideologií a následně roky krutě, nelítostně a bestiálně řádily v koncentračních táborech jako dozorkyně. Tyhle dvě lidské zrůdy rozhodně popírají průpovídku o ženském "něžnějším" pohlaví.
On this day in 1951, Ilse Koch was sentenced to life in prison for crimes against humanity.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On September 1, 1967, one of the Third Reich's most infamous figures hanged herself in her cell after nearly twenty-four years in prison. Known as the "Bitch of Buchenwald," Ilse Koch was singularly notorious, having been accused of owning lampshades fabricated from skins of murdered camp inmates and engaging in "bestial" sexual behavior. These allegations fueled a public fascination that turned Koch into a household name and the foremost symbol of Nazi savagery. Her subsequent prosecution resulted in a scandal that prompted US Senate hearings and even the intervention of President Truman. Yet the most sensational atrocities attributed to Koch were apocryphal or unproven. In this authoritative reappraisal, Tomaz Jardim shows that, while Koch was guilty of heinous crimes, she also became a scapegoat for postwar Germans eager to distance themselves from the Nazi past. The popular condemnation of Koch--and the particularly perverse crimes attributed to her by prosecutors, the media, and the public at large--diverted attention from the far more consequential but less sensational complicity of millions of ordinary Germans in the Third Reich's crimes. Ilse Koch on Trial: Making the 'Bitch of Buchenwald' (Harvard UP, 2023) reveals how gendered perceptions of violence and culpability drove Koch's zealous prosecution at a time when male Nazi perpetrators responsible for greater crimes often escaped punishment or received lighter sentences. Both in the international press and during her three criminal trials, Koch was condemned for her violation of accepted gender norms and "good womanly behavior." Koch's "sexual barbarism," though treated as an emblem of the Third Reich's depravity, ultimately obscured the bureaucratized terror of the Nazi state and hampered understanding of the Holocaust. Hej! Ubierała się w wyzywający sposób, a gdy ktokolwiek spoglądał w jej kierunku rozkazywała poddawać go torturom.

Every so often I like to zoom in on certain creepy topics and characters in history so we can appreciate the horror of humanity on a micro as well as macro scale, and today I decided to share with you the tale of one of the only Nazi women to be convicted of war crimes in the wake of World War II: Ilse Koch, the so-called Butcher Widow and Bitch of Buchenwald (one of the more brutal concentration camps in Nazi Germany). The case of Ilse Koch is interesting for a few reasons, the primary one being she was the wife of a concentration camp commandant, not the commandant herself – but her husband had already died by the time Allied forces liberated Buchenwald. Was Ilse truly the monster that ordered the flayings of tattooed prisoners so she could keep their inked skins as sick souvenirs? Or was she really just the wife of a Nazi who was prosecuted because her husband could not be? Let's dip our toes in the last few years of World War II, and learn more about Ilse, her husband Karl-Otto, and the camp that they would run together which would see the torturous deaths of tens of thousands of prisoners – Buchenwald. Why examine the history of this particular concentration camp and this particular Nazi? Because Ilse Koch has rightly or wrongly gone down in history as one of the most cruel women to have existed, one with a penchant for creating lamp shades from the skins of prisoners, and regardless of whether or not she really did even half the things she's accused of, her story is still at least a bit Creeptastic! Hoo boy do we have a maniac for you this week! It's been a minute. Guys, it's 2022. Life sucks. Let's talk about the Bitch of Buchenwald, Ilse Koch.

If you were a fan of ol' Irma Grese, then you're going to love today's subject, Ilse Koch. She went from normal girl with no red flags, to true believer in the Nazi cause. And nothing good happens after somebody becomes a true believer. Now I don't want to give away any of the details of her heinous actions, but I will say that her nickname was "The Bitch of Buchenwald" and it was more than well deserved.

On this episode of the world Famous Sofa King Podcast, we travel back to World War Two and tell the tale of Ilse Koch, the Bitch of Buchenwald. Everyone knows the names like Dr. Mengele and tales of SS Officers who tortured and murdered the Jews in concentration camps. But this obscure, and truly evil woman, largely escapes the lens of history. Born in Dresden, Germany, Ilse lived in the poverty that faced all of Germany in the aftermath of World War One. This very poverty was what led Hitler to power, by exploiting the desire for Germany to be great again. And Ilse Koch was exactly the type of person Hitler was aiming at. She joined the Nazi Party very early on, and by the time Hitler came to power, she and her husband Karl Koch were rewarded with promotions. Karl became the warden of a prison, and he was so sadistic that the Nazis decided to put him in charge of the construction and daily operation of Buchenwald Concentration Camp during the holocaust. Unlike a lot of German women during the Reich, Ilse was not content to simply sit at home and be a house frau. Instead, she took a job at her husband’s first prison to prepare herself for life in Buchenwald, and once there, she really went off the rails. For one thing, she took money from the Jews as they got off the trains and used it—a lot of it—to build a mansion and massive structure in which she could horseback ride on the premises. She was known to ride around the camp and whip prisoners with her riding crop for a laugh. Oh, and she was also know to do it in skimpy clothes, so if any of the men stared at her, she could have them shot. This behavior went as far as her having servants come to her mansion while she was in a nightie and then killing off any man that looked at her, or lining Jews up in the nude and having any killed who got an erection. But she was just getting started. Apparently, she liked tattoos. She liked them a lot. In fact, she would collect them. From dead Jews. And make lamps for the house and a favorite purse out of them. In fact, she figured out an evil scheme in which the doctors of Buchenwald would conduct experiments to see if people with tattoos were more likely to be criminal and have different physiology. The only way to know was to kill and dissect them. Then, she would have other prisoners skin and tan the dead Jews, so she could have her keepsakes. The things that she and her husband did in the camp were so awful that even the Nazi party said enough. They had both of them arrested and tried. What were the results of the trial? Why did Karl get a much more harsh punishment than Ilse? What did the US and the new West German government do to punish her for war crimes? What happened to all the skin she had gathered? Did she really have shrunken Jew heads in a glass case? How did she finally die? Listen, laugh, learn. During the Holocaust, Ilse Koch lived in the Buchenwald concentration camp with her husband. She would order the deaths of prisoners at-will, and even enjoyed watching people being tortured and killed. Her home was filled with momentos made from human skin. Ilse Koch just may have been responsible for more deaths than your average serial killer. She is considered to be one of the most evil women that ever lived.

In WWI an urban legend was born that has persisted for a century. Its parents? British intelligence officers. They spread a nasty story about the Germans turning their own war dead into soap. And it stuck. But have people been turned into soap? We'll examine the true stories of inhumane craft projects and the dirty secrets of notorious detergent-rendering diabolicals. We'll also look into real world war crimes that yielded their own array of macabre souvenirs, concluding with the story of Ilse Koch and her infamous table lamps. What did Mrs. Koch do you say? Well, a number of things. Including being married to a sadistic SS officer and going above and way beyond joining him in his job of overseeing death camps for Hitler. Now, when I say above and beyond, I mean some twisted stuff. For starters, if she liked a prisoner's skin or tattoos. She would have them taken for “special studies,” and they were killed and skinned. Then she would take that skin and either hand-make or force other prisoners to make accessories and home decor out of it. One of her favorites was a handbag she would often carry with her.
