Justin Hartley, executive producer/star, and director/writer Charles Shyer said they both wanted to make sure that their latest film, The Noel Diary, would tug at your heartstrings and get you into the holiday spirit -- without falling under the typical holiday tropes. Hartley plays Jake Turner, an author who has to return home after the passing of his mother. However, this movie goes beyond the typical boy meets girl -- to tell a story of compassion that crosses over generations. Shyer said it's a tightrope in trying to do a movie a little different than the ones that came before, adding that it's an emotional story but that the biggest challenge is making sure it's a fresh story that stays away from being too sappy or corny. Shyer credits the cast for the ability of everyone to keep this story grounded. Hartley said he enjoyed playing this character, who has convinced himself that he enjoys being alone and isn't living a lonely life when he is a flawed character with much more depth. While successful, Jake seems to deflect a lot, and as the movie continues, we learn more about his life and why we meet him at a pivotal time. Both Hartley and Shyer said they can not wait for people to see the movie and look at the work the cast and crew have done to make this movie stand out from others before it. It's a different movie that hits all the right notes to get you into the holiday spirit. Host: Monica Gleberman Editor: Corinna Caimi Social Media Graphic: Jojo -- Synopsis: When best-selling author Jake Turner (Justin Hartley) returns home at Christmas to settle his estranged mother's estate, he discovers a diary that may hold secrets to his own past and that of Rachel (Barrett Doss) - an intriguing young woman on a mission of her own. Together, they embark on a journey to confront their pasts and discover a future that's totally unexpected. *The Noel Diary is available to stream on Netflix. Please welcome my guest of this episode, visual artist, initiate and author, Diana Kreikamp who has published an amazing book, ‘Amduat – The Great Awakening' just two months ago with Mandrake. Diana was fascinated by the divine from very early childhood on as she could see things and communicate with them. She was maybe 7 years old when she realised that not everybody was able to perceive the world the way she did. Always asking questions and seeking answers she travelled to Thailand in her 20s where certain religious practices made deep impressions on her. It wasn't much later that she started to experiment with meditation and different systems of different traditions until her path led her to the Servants of the Light where she studied the Western Mystery Traditions with Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki being one of her teachers (who btw also provided a foreword to ‘Amduat'). The Egyptian Amduat is an ancient funeral text from the Middle Kingdom, which means it is around 3.500 years old. It describes Ra, the sun god's 12 hours journey through the Duat, the Egyptian underworld. Diana's approach to this text is quite different from those of others though. She didn't want to provide merely a new translation but create one that fits into our time and most importantly to reveal the hidden secrets beneath the text. So she didn't only study hieroglyphics but also explored the Duat herself by using meditation, pathworking, ritual and trance work. Find this book on the website of its publisher, Mandrake of Oxford, by clicking here And this is the link to Diana Kreikamp's personal website In this interview we talk about the creational process of this exceptional book as well as its hidden intention and its use as a handbook to enable readers to manifest their unique selves into this world. Another very fascinating subject will be what exactly the term Great Awakening means and how it is attainable for persons living in the 21st century by using an ancient Egyptian initiation system. We will discuss the requirements of the journey as well as Diana's more than 10-year-long personal experience with working with the Amduat and how it manifested in her own life. I can give away a hint: One of the most interesting changes that the working brought upon her was her discovering herself as a psychic illustrator creating ‘Soul Drawings'. Our conversation will further cover potential origins of the Amduat text and the definition of magic as a driving force behind creative processes combined with the role of the human artist and magician herself. Diana will also provide us some insights into upcoming projects as there seems to be more books to look forward to as I certainly do! Music played in this episode It is always a special pleasure for me when one of the listeners of this podcast follows my request for sending me music that they have created! So once again in this episode, I am able to present to you such music! XO is a shoegaze/alternative rock band formed in 2014 by twin brothers Jeff and Jake Turner. They have been making music together since they were kids, starting on a piano and eventually leading to guitar, drums, bass, etc. Jeff is the principal songwriter and Jake helps him polish his ideas in the studio. Music has always been an important outlet for exploring interior and exterior worlds. Writing songs, performing and building a community has been very rewarding. They were also touring guitarists in Say Anything from 2005-2014 and traveled the world, gathering a plethora of magical experiences on the way that still influence them today. XO has released 2 studio albums, 2 EPs and a live album you can find by clicking HERE or Spotify, Apple Music, etc. At the moment, XO are finishing up a new EP. 1) END OF DAYS (Track starts at 7:29)
On its 90th anniversary, we talk to college students Bianca Herrera and Jake Turner about their perceptions of the American Dream and whether or not it still exists in today's society. While we are backdropped by a country that has seen stark rises in income inequality, less opportunity for economic mobility, and a rising awareness of social justice issues, the American Dream means something different to each person you ask, as Bianca and Jake will also tell you.So, is the American Dream still alive?
For Episode 39 of Tendy Talk presented by the BLPA Podcast Network, I chat with a goalie who played hockey when he was younger, but as a defenseman. He stepped away from the game in middle school to play other sports but came back to hockey his senior year of high school. Knowing the varsity hockey team only had one returning goaltender he thought he'd try his hand at the position simply to be part of the team, and give guys a live body to shoot at never expecting to get into a game - until he learned early in tryouts that the returning goalie suffered a season-ending injury off the ice. You can imagine how the season went, but Jake shares how he was able to keep a positive attitude through it all, and talks of how his teammates responded to the predicament. For our first interview of our fourth season, we talk to Dr. Jake Turner of Cornell University, discussing his work finding the first hints of a magnetic field surrounding a planet in an alien solar system. But first, we examine an unusual radio signal coming from our closest stellar neighbor that looks like it may have been created by an intelligent species – but who? Next, we take a look at something you might not expect – 2020 was, in fact, the shortest year in decades. We will also head out to the Red Planet, where we see the largest canyon in the Solar System in unprecedented detail. New episodes (nearly) every Tuesday! In this first October edition, I sat down with one of the most awesome, coolest professors of my time at Merrimack. I got three words for you. Dr. Jake Turner. Jake is an Associate Professor of the Communication Department at Merrimack College since 2008 and he's known as THE greatest professor not only in the department, but for the college (Don't @ me). We sat and talk about his journey as an educator of media and how he applied his knowledge/skills towards his students such as myself. Coming from his family's background of media, Jake is always determined making the subject really fun and engaging. Plus, we discussed about the anticipated series 'Cobra Kai' a direct sequel from the action movie 'The Karate Kid' about its impact for the fans from the past and beyond. The GOOD news is that its third season will be coming next year AND it's renewed for the fourth season. Dr. Turner and I have been through the thick and thin towards my college career. But since 2017, he is someone that I always look up to and has taught me, mentored me, from the very start. This is one of my favorite episodes to date and I can't wait for you all to listen to this one! Though they were mainstays of video stores in the 80's and 90's, finding a Marchini movie was a treat, because there aren't that many of them. We talk all things Steve Parrish, John Travis, and Jake Turner (his alter egos), proper name pronunciation, yellow shirts, and so much more. A "top seven" list is discussed, which should be helpful for the Marchini newbie. It's flat-out fun!

On December 4, 1956, a legendary jam session was held at rock and roll pioneer Sam Phillips’ Sun Records studio in Memphis, Tennessee. Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Elvis Presley were labeled the “Million Dollar Quartet” by a local journalist and the moniker stuck to the recordings of the session released decades later. In 2006, Colin Escott and Floyd Matrux unleashed a highly fictionalized and time-compressed theatrical version of the event also titled Million Dollar Quartet. After several successful bay area productions, Santa Rosa’s 6th Street Playhouse gives the North Bay a chance to check out this popular jukebox musical now running through March 24. Jukebox musicals are usually comprised of a couple of dozen well-known songs connected by expositionary material and Million Dollar Quartet is no different. Sam Phillips (Benjamin Stowe) narrates the tale of the event, filling in the backstory and presenting the dramatic conflict (Will Johnny Cash sign a contract extension or fly the coop?) around which the music swirls. At a recording session for Carl Perkins (Jake Turner) with Jerry Lee Lewis (Nick Kenrick, also music director) on piano, who should happen to drop by but Elvis Presley and his girlfriend (played by Daniel Durston and Samantha Arden) and Johnny Cash (played by Steve Lasiter)! In no time, there’ll be a whole lot of shakin goin’ on as we’re treated to “Blue Suede Shoes”, “Folsom Prison Blues”, “That’s All Right”, “Great Balls of Fire” and 20 other classics. Director Michael Ray Wisely – who has played Phillips and directed this piece before - had the benefit of 6th Street expending significant coin on this production beginning with an impressive set (Conor Woods adapting Kelly James Tighe’s original scenic design) and imported talent. It’s not an easy show to cast as each performer must be a “triple threat” - an actor, a singer, and a musician. Kenrick reprises his TBA Award-winning performance as Jerry Lee Lewis and steals the show with his kinetic piano playing and entertaining characterization. Local performer Jake Turner manages to hold his own against Kenrick as Carl Perkins, and Durston and Lasiter do fine in capturing the essence of their characters while avoiding simple caricatures. They receive good musical support by locals Nick Ambrosino on drums and bassist Shovanny Delgado Carillo. Ignore the shaky musical history and often-pedestrian exposition that’s presented and you’ll find yourself enjoying a well-performed staged concert of some of rock and roll’s greatest hits. 'Million Dollar Quartet' runs Thursdays through Sundays through March 24 at 6th Street Playhouse in Santa Rosa. Thursday through Saturday evening performances are at 7:30pm; there are Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2pm. For more information, go to 6thstreetplayhouse.com
