God the Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 3 v13-21) by David Antwi
January 7, 2025Today's Reading: Ephesians 1:3-14Daily Lectionary: Ezekiel 1:1-14, 22-28; Habakkuk 1:1-3:19; Romans 1:1-17“...In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ…” (Ephesians 1:4b-5a)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.Have you ever heard an excited child talk about a favorite gift? They are so filled with joy that they can hardly contain it! They babble with a bubbling buzz, bursting on and on about their treasure. Or have you heard a little one pray? Again, they babble with a bubbling buzz, praising God for each and everything that is dear (or merely near) to them: Grandpa and Grandma, Mom and Dad, siblings, toys, even the ceiling that keeps rain off their heads. They form a litany of praise and thanksgiving. St. Paul's letter to the Ephesians bursts on and on with a similar litany of praises. In English, verses 3-14 are split into several sentences, each still quite long. In the Greek, however, the sentence divisions are not so clear; one might read verses 3-14 as a single, continuous sentence– totaling up to 202 Greek words! That is the longest sentence in all of Scripture. St. Paul babbles with a bubbling buzz, like an excited child or a praying child. The truth is, he is both: he is a child of God. The Father predestined St. Paul for adoption through the blood of Jesus Christ. Upon the Cross, the sins of all were forgiven. In Holy Baptism, St. Paul received the inheritance due to the Son of God.What was true for St. Paul then remains true for you today. You also have been predestined for adoption into the household of God. Your sins have been forgiven. You have been raised to new life. If this alone were not enough to have you babbling with a bubbling buzz about His love, consider also the litany of Gifts God the Father provides for you: an eternal family through His only-begotten Son, siblings bound together forever in His name, His blessed Sacraments to delight in, and –yes– even the ceiling which keeps rain off your head. God has provided you with everything you need to support your body and life. For this, it is your duty to thank, praise, serve and obey Him. This is what St. Paul models for us in Ephesians. His praise is simultaneously profound and simple. Let the Triune God be praised for His work yesterday, today, tomorrow, and on and on into eternity! In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. All praise to God the Father be, All praise, eternal Son, to Thee. Alleluia, alleluia! Whom with the Spirit we adore Forever and forever more: Alleluia, alleluia! Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia! Right after Jesus commended John the Baptist and Luke comments that the Pharisees rejected the will of God by not repenting and accepting the baptism of John, he tells us about a Pharisee who invited Jesus to come eat with him. This incident is only recorded in the Gospel of Luke and not found in the other Gospels. We should not confuse this event with a similar one involving Mary of Bethany in John 12:1-8, and also, we should not identify this woman with Mary Magdalene (Mark 16:9; Luke 8:2). It was customary in that day for outsiders to hover around during banquets so they could watch the "important people" and hear the conversation. Since everything was open, they could even enter the banquet hall and speak to a guest. This explains how this woman had access to Jesus. He was not behind locked doors. In that day women were not invited to banquets. Jewish rabbis did not speak to women in public, nor did they eat with them in public. A woman of this type would not be welcomed in the house of Simon the Pharisee. Her sins are not named, but we get the impression she was a woman of the streets with a bad reputation. No group of men was more consistently hostile to Christ than the Pharisees. Luke mentions them twenty-eight times and always as being hostile to Jesus. The woman in this instance was daring in the first place to enter the house of a Pharisee. No people were more proud, exclusive, and self-righteous than the Pharisees. They looked with scorn and contempt on the type of woman who now appeared. The Lord assuredly knew that He was on hostile ground in Simon's house. But the same love for lost people that brought Him down from high heaven above to this hostile world was the love that took Him into Simon's inhospitable house. The Lord held His peace, but He noted the fact that Simon made no attempt to extend to Him the common courtesies that an Oriental host generally offered guests. Once in the house, the Lord was seated for supper. On such occasions, the various ones present reclined on couches arranged around the table. Each one rested his left elbow on the table with his feet pointed away toward the wall. The woman admitted she was a sinner, and her actions gave evidence that she was a repentant sinner. Her tears, her humble attitude, and her expensive gift all spoke of a changed heart. Simon was embarrassed, both for himself and for his guests. People had been saying that Jesus was a great Prophet (Luke 7:16), but He certainly was not exhibiting much prophetic discernment if He allowed a sinful woman to anoint His feet! He must be a fraud. Simon's real problem was blindness to his own sinful condition. It was easy for him to say, "She is a sinner!" but impossible for him to say, "I am also a sinner!" (see Luke 18:9-14) Jesus proved that He was indeed a prophet by reading Simon's thoughts and revealing his needs. This story of the two debtors does not deal with the amount of sin in a person's life but the awareness of that sin in his heart. How much sin must a person commit to be a sinner? Simon and the woman were both sinners. Simon was guilty of sins of the spirit, especially pride, while the woman was guilty of sins of the flesh (see 2 Cor. 7:1). Her sins were known, while Simon's sins were hidden to everyone except God. And both of them were bankrupt and could not pay their debt to God. Simon was just as spiritually bankrupt as the woman, only he did not realize it. Forgiveness is a gift of God's grace; the debt was paid in full by Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:7; 1 Peter 1:18-19). God "graciously and freely" forgave them both a debt they could not pay. The woman accepted God's free offer of salvation and expressed her love openly. Simon rejected that offer and remained unforgiven. He was not only blind to himself, but he was blind to the woman and to his honored guest! God bless!
We first heard of Paul's desire to go to Rome in Acts 19:21. Then we learned in Acts 23:11 that the Lord Jesus confirmed that He was sending Paul to Rome. In today's study of the last chapter of Acts we see that Paul finally arrives in Rome, safe and sound, but no doubt a bit sea sick and weary after account we covered in Acts 27. Every toss and turn in Paul's journey to Rome was orchestrated by God. But Paul is in Rome at last and we find that once he arrives, he continues contending for the faith that was once delivered unto the saints. Despite the opposition. Despite the “questionable weather” and lesser than 5-star accommodations along the way, Paul, along with Dr Luke and Aristarchus, arrive in the most prominent city on planet earth at that time….Rome. He arrives as a prisoner and tells his fellow Jews that for “the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain”. But because Paul was set free by Jesus Christ, he never regarded himself as the prisoner of Rome, but as the prisoner of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 3:1; Philemon 1:1;9 ).What the world would call a radical and skewed way of seeing things, Jesus would call the normal Christian life. While it is true that not many of God's children are called to live as dramatic a Christian life as Paul did, we are all called to live what's been named by some, ‘The Glorious Exchanged Life'. The Glorious Exchanged Life is this: Jesus died to save my soul, and now I die (Luke 9:23), to live for Him. Each and every follower of Jesus has a “Rome” as the final stop in their pilgrimage here on earth. God is right now working in your life every single detail that is designed to prepare you for when you land there. There is not a storm or venomous snake bite that is wasted in the marvelous testimony of Jesus that God in forming in your life. You see beloved, you are no longer a prisoner of your circumstances, you are a prisoner of Jesus Christ. Keep your eyes and faith on the One whom the natural eye cannot see.So wherever you are on your way to your Rome, the Gospel mandate and itinerary is simple. Abide in Jesus. Pray without ceasing. Preach the kingdom of God. Share those things concerning the truth and gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Some will believe, and some will not. May God be glorified in each and every one of your lives, beloved.
It all Begins with Jesus Christ
The Mystery of the Gospel of Jesus Christ – Ephesians 3:1-6 – David Larmour The post The Mystery of the Gospel of Jesus Christ – Ephesians 3:1-6 appeared first on Welbeck Road Evangelical Church.
Pastor Terry Mahan unpacked the True Story of Christmas, emphasizing three pivotal truths. Firstly, Jesus came to erase misconceptions about God, revealing His true nature through both teachings and actions (John 18:37, John 1:18, Isaiah 7:14). The second truth illuminated that Christmas embodies God expressing sacrificial and all-encompassing love through Jesus (Isaiah 7:14, 1 John 4:9-10, Ephesians 3:18-19). Lastly, the third truth centered on Christmas as an opportunity for a personal relationship with God, as believers are adopted into His family through Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:5). The congregation was encouraged to embrace these profound truths, understanding God's nature, accepting His love, and initiating a life-changing relationship with Him.

Christian Disciple and World View Right mouse click to save/download this Psalm as a MP3 file Paul writing in Philippians 2v1-4: “If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.” What was your worldview before you became a Christian? What is your worldview now that you are a Christian? Are there any similarities and differences between the two? What does a Christian worldview consist of and what are some of the thoughts behind opposing worldviews that are prevalent in Western society today? Contemporary Society Shock rock group, Slipknot, in one of their songs, describe people as the equivalent of excrement. Reality television programmes love to show the degradation and embarrassment of human participants. The London Zoo has in 2005 exhibited humans and treated them as animals, in order to reflect humanity's "basic nature" and place on earth. The pornographic industry, despite protests from both religious and non-religious groups, shows both men and women in airbrushed degradation, with pictorial and verbal humiliation. All these treat humans as mere, undignified 'glory-less' commodities to be used and degraded, albeit, in the main part willingly. Some treat other people as either their equal or of lesser concern than themselves. This is following what is commonly called the “Golden Rule“, which is “do to others, what you would have them do to you”. Furthermore, there is the thinking that there are no certainties or absolutes in life, just your own perspective. Morality is a private thing and what is right for you, may not be right for me and don't dare tell me that I am wrong in any aspect of my life. My morals are mine and mine alone, and it is my right. As for religion, all religions inevitably lead to some form of god or gods, that is if any exists at all. Darwin & Scientific Materialism Richard Dawkins, the eminent Oxford biologist and atheist, decrees that humans are merely a miniscule section in nature's rich spectrum, and Darwinism explains not only how we got here but that our purpose has evolved just as we have evolved biologically and sexually. Based on this hypothesis, he sees no reason for a creator or any form of intelligent designer, as man evolved by "chance and random variations". Further to this, he views "humanity as just one little twig", amongst the order of primates. He does however admit, that humans have probably evolved as far as they can and further concedes that there is "no definitely accepted account" regarding life's beginnings. This atheistic and naturalistic theory goes on to deny the very existence of a spiritual world and claims that our emotions such as love, fear, hatred and guilt, or our thoughts and feelings, are merely physical or chemical in origin. A Christian Worldview Contrast these with a Christian worldview. Atheistic views are entirely theoretical and are based entirely upon presupposed disavowal and disbelief in any form of deity, whether personal or impersonal, and belief that any kind of faith is blind, non-evidential and irrational. Juxtaposed against this thought, Genesis 1 asks us to rejoice in the knowledge of who we are, as the pinnacle of creation. Early Greek Patriarchs likened the creation of humanity to a royal leader being shown his new palace. Again, contrast those worldviews against Scripture, which says, that humanity, both male and female, is made in the image of God, the imago dei, and is therefore according to one of the church fathers made to "reflect the Divine". Paul when writing to the Thessalonian church said: “May God himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together—spirit, soul, and body—and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 5:23). When God created humanity, it was in His image that they were created. The Bible indicates that humans are composed of 3 parts - Body, Soul and Spirit. The spirit and soul are only separable in thought and are probably best seen as two separate dimensions of the non-material side of a person - the spirit relating to God, and the soul relating to earth. All three parts, spirit, soul and body have an important role to play in our humanity. The whole person is valuable to God, not just the spirit as Paul wrote to the Thessalonians (1 Thessalonians 5:23). Other philosophies and religions have tried to portray the body as evil or irrelevant, and this has crept into some parts of Christianity, with the tradition of priestly celibacy and asceticism. A break down in any of these areas can cause imbalance in the other areas. For example, research has shown that sometimes, physical sickness can be caused through emotional turmoil. Studies have also revealed that mental illness may occasionally be caused through guilt or unforgiveness. As humans we are created in His image, and as Christian Disciples we were bought at a price when Jesus died on the cross. A biblical Christian worldview should include the following: God created humanity, in His own image therefore higher than the animal world. Humanity subsequently rebelled and disobeyed God. God then took the initiative and promised a way out through His chosen Messiah. This Messiah was Jesus Christ, and he had simultaneously both human and divine natures. It was He, who as God, stepped into history and became confined for a short while by time and space. He was born so that when He died on the cross, it was to pay the price so that all of humanity could be freed from slavery to sin and disobedience, if only they chose to accept and believe in Him as God. He rose again physically from the dead, ascended into heaven and now sits at the right hand of the Father. Those who don't accept Him as Lord and Saviour wil spend eternity apart from Him. He is the only way to God, and all other paths lead to destruction. That is why Christianity is the only true and permanent hope for the world. As Christians Disciples, living in the 21st century, we are to place God first, others second and ourselves last. That is the path a Christian Disciple is to walk, following and serving both God and others. It is done by taking up our cross daily, just as Jesus Christ took up His cross (Luke 9v23) and following His life devoted to being a servant of others. As Christian Disciples, we have God in the person of the Holy Spirit, living inside us as a deposit for our future life with Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1v13-14). With His help, we are being transformed into the very image of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 3v18; Philippians 3v20-21). You may well be able to add other things to this in order to form your own worldview. For more to think about please do read for yourself: Philippians 2v1-18. Ask yourself the following questions, writing them down if you can, and see how you respond or react to them. Then why not share your answers with your spouse or a close friend, so that you can pray over any issues together. Q1. How has and is my worldview being developed and transformed into a worldview similar to that of Jesus Christ? Q2. How has my life been transformed in the last year and in what way can I continue to be transformed into the very image of Jesus Christ? Q3. In what way do the Apostles Creed and Nicene Creed help and reinforce my understanding of a Christian worldview? Right mouse click to save/download this Psalm as a MP3 file
Pastor Kenny Kauffman preaches on Ephesians 4:20-24.
Throughout history, people have asked the question, “Who is Jesus?” Some consider Him to be a good man, a prophet, a teacher. Others believe that He is in fact God, but consider Him to be distant, unknowable, unapproachable. Have you ever stopped to ask yourself the question, “Who is Jesus Christ to me?”.I believe Jesus is the Son of God, my Savior and King, but He's also my closest friend. The only One I can have complete and total faith in. The One who will always be there to listen to me when I need Him most. The One who understands me when no one else can. He is approachable, relatable, and I can talk to Him wherever and whenever..There are times when I feel a variety of emotions all at once: joy, anger, frustration, sadness, anxiety... but whatever my feelings are, I know I can go to Jesus with them, and He will understand me perfectly. When I want to talk to someone and no one is there to listen, Jesus is. When I feel alone and afraid and like no one understands, Jesus does. When my own confused feelings threaten to drag me down under and I need someone to lift me up, Jesus pulls me out of the mire and comforts me with His gentle touch. When I feel worthless, empty, uncared for and helpless, Jesus knows and calls me precious. He tells me that, to Him, I'm beautiful and loved, I'm the daughter He died to save..Who is Jesus? He is my Protector, Lover, Comforter, Savior, Friend. .That's who Jesus is to me. • Eliana Canfield.• Since before the beginning of time, God had a plan to make the way for us to have a personal relationship with Him through Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:4-5). He is the God of the universe, and yet He wants you to know Him personally! If you have questions about what it means to know Jesus, who is a trusted Christian you could talk to? (You can also find out more on our "Know Jesus" page.) .• In Matthew 16:13-17, what questions did Jesus ask? How did Peter respond?.• Why is it important for us to consider the question, “Who is Jesus Christ to me?”.Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth. My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever. Psalm 73:25-26 (NLT)
One in Jesus Christ Ephesians 2:11-22 By Trustee Herman Johnson
Do you experience Jesus dwelling within you?
He 33 Teach me, O LORD, to follow your decrees; then I will keep them to the end. 34 Give me understanding, and I will keep your law and obey it with all my heart. 35 Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight. 36 Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain. 37 Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word. 38 Fulfil your promise to your servant, so that you may be feared. 39 Take away the disgrace I dread, for your laws are good. 40 How I long for your precepts! Preserve my life in your righteousness. Having being revived in the previous section, the Psalmist now seeks to be taught! He continues using words for the Law such as decrees, commands, statutes and precepts! His responses are equally clear: Teachable, kept, obedient, directed, turned and yearned! His initial outburst from verse 1 is a heartfelt cry "Teach me to follow your decrees O Great God so that I will discover my reward!" He then goes from teaching to understanding, because understanding is the practical application of what has been taught to his life as a believer. Through applying and understanding what God has taught him, then obedience is the result. This obedience then is the catalyst for the next part - direction! If the Psalmist moves in obedience, then God Himself will direct him! Something that is moving, and not standing still, can be easily steered! When Almighty God using His decrees, directs the Psalmist, the Psalmist finds true ecstasy, joy and delight! True happiness comes from serving God and obeying Him by serving others! The Psalmist does all this, not for a feel good factor or for his own pride and self-righteousness. No! The Psalmist does this so his life is preserved, abandoning all that is worthless, in pursuit of that which is eternally worthwhile! WOW! If his own work of selfishness is useless, what does the Psalmist say about the work of the Lord? The Lord's work is the fulfilment of His promise to the Psalmist - to preserve his life in the Lord's righteousness. What is righteousness? Righteousness under the Mosaic covenant was active obedience to God and living according to God's ways. How is the Psalmist declared righteous? By fearing the Lord (v38) and when the Lord is feared, then the utter disgrace is taken away! God fulfils His promises always! There is a battle ensuing within him - the inner battle where the Psalmist can choose two ways to live. First is the choice to live in obedience to God, or secondly he can choose to disobey God and live life his own selfish way. By choosing to obey God, the Psalmist is preserved. What does this have to do with us as twenty-first century Christians? The Christian life is to be an active one of dynamic contact with the Holy Spirit who lives with you. Sometimes we like to think our own self-righteousness is what is going to save us. We all think that at some point even if we are not aware of it. When we do that, we are no better than the Pharisees of Jesus' time. The Pharisees were righteous people, but they were looking to their own righteousness for salvation. They adapted the Laws of God for their own ends. Jesus said that unless righteousness exceeds that of the Pharisees, then we can't be saved. How is that possible? It is possible, because true righteousness is not an external righteousness like that of the Pharisees, but an internal righteousness - a righteousness of the heart. A righteousness which will see God the Holy Spirit living within those who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, and He writes the laws of God on their hearts. The Pharisees had a distorted view of the Law and saw it has only an external obedience. But as the Psalmist here reminds us, the "obedience of the heart" (v34) shows it also to be internal matter as well. So righteousness now, under the New Covenant, is not just an active external obedience to God but an internal declaration before God! How is this internal righteousness seen? It is as the Apostle Paul would write a few years later in Philippians 2v12-13: "continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfil his good purpose." When God the Father sees you, if you are a Christian, he sees the righteousness of Jesus Christ His Son. When Jesus died on the cross, it was so that all who chose to follow Him could be declared righteous and wear the robe of righteousness. As a Christian, you have the righteousness of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1v7; Acts 13v38-39) and you have received the gift of righteousness (Romans 5v17) through faith in Jesus Christ (Philippians 3v9) If you need help in any are of your life, then ask God the Holy Spirit, who lives inside you, to help you. He will, because God the Holy Spirit is in the transformation business. What areas of your life do you need to hand control over to Him? We all have areas to work on, ceding control and handing them to God. How are you doing at living as a Christian? Are you struggling in some area of life where that specific aspect of your life is in direct disobedience to God? That is the pursuit of your own selfish gain, as the Psalmist would say. Ask for help, and He will help! Thank you. Right mouse click to save this Podcast as a MP3.
Pastor Adin Yoon
Today, Trey discusses "the fellowship of the mystery." For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, if ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: how that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; that the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel: whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power. Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; and to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: (Ephesians 3:1-9) The "Fellowship Of The Mystery" is "that the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:" This mystery is that the church which is his body, is made up of BOTH Jews and Gentiles who heard and believed Paul's gospel. This called out body of believers is the "one new man," the "new creature" that is separate and apart from the "little flock." Our apostle Paul revealed unsearchable riches that we will not hear about on CNN, the Fox network, or in almost any of Americas mainstream church buildings. They act as if it is STILL unsearchable even though it was "made known" to Paul "by revelation" and can be found in his epistles. The missing link to the puzzle of you understanding the bible is to FIRST understand what is "the fellowship of the mystery." “God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 1:5, NLT). Dwain and Lorie Hargis had fostered many children. One year they met Olivia, a young girl who had bounced from house to house. She had a tough life and had learned how to … Continue reading When God adopts us
Big Ideas1. Dreams, visions, and angelsThe primary way God speaks to his people is through his Word. However, at times, God uses dreams, visions, and angels to communicate with and instruct individuals. God used the angel Gabriel to announce the coming birth of Jesus to Mary. God used an angel in a vision to instruct Joseph not to leave his pregnant virgin fiancé. In this story, God uses both visions and angels to help Peter and Cornelius learn about the blessings of the Gospel.2. Divine appointmentsOne of the things that stands out in this text is how God was at work in both Peter and Cornelius, arranging for their introduction and fellowship. God spoke to Peter three times in a dream. He also gave Cornelius a vision in which an angel appeared to him. Both of these unique experiences brought Peter and Cornelius together for a divine appointment which would prove transformative for the early Church. 3. God shows no partiality among those who trust in ChristThe encounter between Peter and Cornelius accomplished two important things. First, Peter brought the Gospel to Cornelius and, as a result, numerous Gentiles at Caesarea believed and were baptized. Second, God demonstrated to Peter that the ethnic divisions that had been part of Israel's past history had been demolished in and through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:14-16). Believing Jews and Gentiles were now equals in Christ. Neither Peter nor anyone else could reject those to whom God had given his Spirit. Study Questions1. What is the significance of Peter's vision? What did it mean for God to instruct Peter to kill and eat any animal?2. Has God ever spoken to you or given you encouragement through a dream or a vision? What is the danger of trusting in dreams or visions?3. The early Church, which was primarily made up of believing Jews, struggled to accept believing Gentiles as equals in Christ. Are there any believing groups or individuals that you struggle to see and accept as equals in Christ?

On September 26, Ken talked about community on our special Celebrate Community Sunday. 5 IRREFUTABLE FACTS OF CHURCH AS COMMUNITY We are a community as one new man (Ephesians 2:15-19a) We are a community of supernatural existence (Ephesians 2:19-20) We are a community that prioritized the presence of God (Ephesians 2:21-22) We are a community fundamentally built upon the identity of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 4:11-13) We are a community that genuinely expresses encouragement for one another (Hebrews 3:12-13) ONENESS - Ephesians 2:19-20 19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God's people and also members of his household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. AUTHENTICITY - Ephesians 4:11-13 11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. ENCOURAGEMENT - Hebrews 3:13-14 13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. 14 We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.
The Book of Ephesians was preparing the early church for the work of creating a whole new world that represented the Kingdom of God. As we leave our self-imposed hibernation due to the pandemic and returning to in-person gatherings as a church community, we need to refamiliarize ourselves with our God-given purpose that is greater than our own individual salvation. Our mission at CLC is to make disciples who Love God, Love People, and Serve the World. Sounds good but how do we know we are doing it right? Here are 3 ways to help us measure success, with help from insights in Ephesians: 1. We love God for God to be seen (Ephesians 3:14-19), application Spiritual Disciplines, 2. We love people for people to feel loved (Ephesians 5:21), application emotionally healthy relationships, and lastly 3. We serve the world for lives to be changed into the likeness of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 4:11-16), application Spiritual Gifts. Big Idea: Let us together love God for God to be seen, love people for people to feel loved, and serve the world for lives to be changed.
9. Living The New Life In Jesus Christ [Ephesians 4:17-32] - Nick Calcagno by Renewal Church
A sermon by Kent Suits, Pastor at Christ Community Church. We exist to help people Know Jesus Christ and Serve the Community by Being the Church.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:1-10) leads to the fundamental unity of the church as one new humanity (Ephesians 2:11-20). We are one because of Jesus. This is woven into the doctrinal realities of our faith (Ephesians 4:1-6) and the lived experience of the church as the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12).
THROUGH EYES OF COLOR A CONTEXTUALIZED GUIDE TO HELP YOU KNOW WHAT YOU BELIEVE AND WHY. II. Unwrapping the Gift In this section, we are going to learn how to properly unwrap the gift of God's Word for the sake of knowing and worshipping Him by using five intentional steps. STEP 1: GET STILL When you open the Bible, you come face to face with God. It is important to open God's Word with a posture of reverence and expectation. Opening your Bible with reverence means doing so with a heart full of thankfulness for the gift of being able to encounter the living God through His Word. Then, expect the eyes of your heart to be enlightened so that you may know with a greater sense of clarity and assurance the hope to which you've been called in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:18). Get in a place where you can meet with the Lord undistracted. Settle your heart through prayer.
This sermon is a powerful reminder on the sufficiency in God's Word, namely the Gospel, to cure the evils of our hearts. That evil is sin. Walk with us as we unpack this powerful text on true reconciliation! Preached by Tim Castillo on June ...
Pastor Sharon feed us with a feast tonight coming out of the book of Philippians 1:6 KJV. Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: Ephesians 4:11-16 KJV. And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love Amen! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/pastor-lester-hayes/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/pastor-lester-hayes/support
The first and most important of the New Covenant blessings is the complete and total forgiveness of sin. Other blessings include the gift of Christ’s righteousness, holiness, indeed, His very life! All of these blessings testify to God’s Grace, which is one of six ways the new covenant can be distinguished from the old. GOSPEL CIRCLE 002 3 1. ItisaCovenantofGrace In the old law-based covenant you reaped what you sow, but in the new we reap what Christ has sown. In the old you did in order to get, but in the new we get because Christ has done it ALL. This is grace! And grace declares that all is a gift. Every spiritual blessing is ours in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:3). 2. It is a Covenant of Rest Under the Old it was do, do, do, but in the New it’s done, done ,done. Faith is a rest, not a work. Is our right not our duty. Only when we rest in the finished work of Calvary can God begin His good work in us. And as His grace abounds, good works abound (2 Corinthians 9:8). Good works don’t produce faith — it never has it never will — but faith produces good works. 3. It’s a Covenant of New Life Old covenant preaching will make you stupid and harden your heart to the goodness of God (2 Corinthians 3:14). But New Covenant preaching removes the veil and reveals the Glory of God. As you behold him you become like him, transformed by the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:18). Under the old, the best you could hope for was self-improvement that never lasts. But in the new, you become new (2 Corinthians 5:17) — a brand new person with a new heart and a new spirit. You are born of the Spirit, you are no longer a prisoner of sin, but a co-heir with Christ. 4. It’s a Covenant of Union In the Old Covenant God lived in a temple that you could never enter anyway, but in the new, you are the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 3:16). You are one with the Lord and as he is — Holy, righteous, and perfect forever — so are you in this world (1 John 4:17). You don’t need more faith, more anointing, more of God, more fasting, more Bible. That’s old covenant thinking. You are complete in Christ (Colossians 2:10). In the new, growth happens as we acknowledge every good thing that is already ours in Christ (Philemon 1:6) In the old, growth happens with your ability to keep up with the rules. 5. It is a Covenant You Can Never Break The old covenant was underwritten by your weak promises to God, but the new rests on the “better promises” of God himself (Hebrews 8:6). In the old you loved God and forgave others because it was commanded of you to receive it from God, but in the new you love and forgive because He first loved and forgave you. The old covenant was between God and Israel, but the new covenant is between God and God. God holds up both ends of this “contract,” he swore by himself and gave us His Spirit as a guarantee of what is to come (2 Corinthians 1:22). Under the old covenant, you were blessed if you obeyed, but under the new you are blessed because Christ obeyed. Your salvation is eternally secured because it is Jesus who saves and keeps you, not your works, not your obedience, not your faithfulness. 6. It is a Covenant that Reveals your Father’s Heart God gave grace to the first man Adam and called him a son (Luke 3:38), but Adam ran and hid. God gave grace to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, but the children of Israel said, “No thank you. We rather do it our way.” At Mount Sinai the children of Israel swapped a covenant based on God’s faithfulness for one based on their own. “We will do whatever you command us to do.” They said (Exodus 19:8). But it was the forbidden tree all over again, and that broke our Father’s heart. An old covenant emphasis on rules will cause you to see God as a bookkeeper recording all your sins, and as a judge condemning your mistakes. But Jesus tells you today: “Hey, God is not like that! He’s your Heavenly Father who loves you and holds nothing against you. He longs for his prodigals to return home.” --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/upriseyourlife/support

I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God's power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God's right hand in the heavenly realms. Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come. God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.' Ephesians 3:14-21 NLT 'When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.' God’s Word is not only a journey of understanding Who He is but also a journey of understanding Whose we are in Christ. As believers, we have been given many promises of God from His Word that will transform our mind and align our hearts with what He says, instead of what we think.Today, we’re going to focus on God’s love for us, our security and safety in Him, and our significance and value as believers. I’ve personalized the Scriptures so as you read them, you can position yourself within these promises of God.LoveI am God’s child (John 1:12).I am Christ’s friend (John 15:15).I have been bought at a price; I belong to God (1 Corinthians 6:20).I have been adopted as God’s child through Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:5).I have been redeemed and forgiven of all my sins (Colossians 1:14).I am complete in Christ (Colossians 2:10).SecurityI am free forever from condemnation (Romans 8:1-2).I am assured that all things work together for good (Romans 8:28).I am free from any condemning charges against me (Romans 8:33-34).I have been established, anointed, and sealed by God (2 Corinthians 1:21-22).I am confident that the good work God has begun in me will be perfected (Philippians 1:6).I am born of God, and the evil one cannot touch me (1 John 5:18).Which verse prompted your heart to respond as you read it? Hebrews 4:12 tells us that the Word of God is living and active. What words made you feel alive? Again, I would encourage you to spend a few moments praying over yourself and asking God to reveal His Truth to you more. Meditate on the verse you chose today. Put it on a sticky note or jot it down on your phone. Be still and let the roots grow deep. Amen.Read the full devotion at https://devotableapp.com/daily-devotion-knowing-gods-promises/

Phil spoke on living your life in such away it makes it easier for others to believe in Jesus. Please note that this recording stops after about 30 mins. Questions for discussion are in bold. Identity - Chosen, Loved, Saints Introduction • We've been looking at Identity • It's one of the reasons the children of Israel didn't enter the promised land the first time and could have been the second time had it not been for a prostitute named Rahab • Our identity used to be based on family background, education, race, physical attributes and maybe some other things. • But because of what Jesus has done we have been given a new identity for free. • The life we now live we live by faith in Jesus (Galatians 2:20). It is through faith we understand that we are now radically loved by God • You may have defined yourself or others have done it for you, maybe a parent or a teacher a boss or some other person who has had influence in or over your life. • God has defined us as anointed, walking in authority, adopted into His family, ambassadors for Him, part of a royal priesthood and heavenly citizens. • Realizing this identity change is foundational to being a true disciple of Jesus as our behavior comes from our beliefs. Are you living in the good of your new identity in Christ? Romans 1 v 1-8 : Paul makes 3 statements about our identity 1. Chosen • Knowing you have been chosen or called • Illustration from being chosen for a team • God chose you to be in Christ before the foundation of the work he has a plan for your life drawn up before you were born • When Jesus called the first disciples it was a simple "Come Follow Me" I guess the thing was they were receptive to the call, fishermen called Simon and Andrew, and James and John, Mark 1:16-20 How do you Know God Chose you.? 2. Loved • We sing many songs about his love and being loved by God ○ Your love never Fails ○ How he loves us ○ Good Good Father • When you know your loved you it brings safety and security • There is only one way to know how God loves me: Listen to what he tells me, and believe him. Loved with a Great Love “He chose us in him before the foundation of the world. . . . In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 1:4–5). He loved us before we were created or adopted. This is what he tells us in the Bible about how he loves us. He saved us “because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave [you] in Christ Jesus before the ages began” (2 Timothy 1:9). Before creation he loved you like this. Paul calls this a “great love.” And what marks it as great, he says, is that because of it, God came to me and you in our bloody, filthy, traitorous, deadness of heart, and made us alive. “Because of the great love with which he loved us, God made us alive together with Christ” (Ephesians 2:4–5). Great love made us alive. You “To know this love, to feel this love for what it is, requires the experience of this love.” - How are you experiencing this love of God? 3. Saints Crossing the line Saints not Sinners: 5% Sinner v 95% Saint or do you feel that should be the opposite way round? 100% Saint -Fact • When Jesus died on the cross we died ‘in Him’ and so we are now dead to sin and alive to God. • We are no longer sinners who occasionally do the right thing but saints who occasionally sin. • This means that we fight sin not by trying harder but by first recognising that sinful behaviour is no longer what we naturally do. Is this true for you? • Discipleship is not self-help; God rescues and empowers us! One of the outward signs of this inward change is baptism in water, that all believers of the water). • How does the realisation that you are dead to sin affect your approach to biding a disciple? • Have you been baptised in water as a believer?

Today were talking about overcome those feelings of inadequacy rejection and insecurity calls us to have an identity crisis. An identity crisis occurs when you say less about yourself then God says about you. When you are rejected by somebody it seems to creates an identity crisis. Rejection by those in the body of Christ is especially cruel. And it happens more frequently than it should. When others put you in a dimmer light than what God says you are, can you believe it, you find yourself headed into Christ. The best way out of an identity crisis is to know what God said about. Who does God say? God says your his child. God says your holy and beloved and accepted and blameless in his side. God says that you're more than a call. God says he's for and that he is with you.Right now where you're at the enemy may be playing old tapes in your head that is not what God says about you. God says your special. God says your his beloved and elect. God says he chose you in Christ Jesus intention to be his job.God paid a great price for you. He sent his own son from heaven and earth to die for you. You are of great value to God.When those rotates rewind and try to play in your mind trying to keep you down, trying to make you think less of yourself than God does. Or trying to keep you from thinking the thoughts that God thinks about. Then you have a supernatural humor who will heal your identity with his own blood. He will transfer you from your old thoughts and transform into new thoughts of who God says you are.God says you are his. It may not be revealed yet what you are to man, but God sees you complete in Christ Jesus. And he has filled you with the fullest measure of his divine press. With God himself. Your body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit God lives in you.Listen, your heavenly father saw you and approved of you even before you were in your mother's womb. And he wrote all your days in his book, before there is a day that ever happened. (Psalms 139:13-16) he knew you'd come to the place you are right now, he's been waiting for to show you the Truth of Who You Are – the Truth That Will Set You Free. (John 8:32)The Word of God Is Your Shield against All the Fiery Darts of the Devil. (Ephesians 6:16-17) and God is giving you the Sort of Spirit Which Is the Word of God Every Stronghold Every Imagination and Every Reason That Positions Itself against the Word of God. (2 Corinthians 10:2-4)So I just pray for you:Father, in the Name of Jesus I Come to You These for Listening and Myself. I Bring Them Boldly to the Throne of Grace with Cost, so That They May Receive Mercy and Find Grace to Help in Their Time of Need of Understanding Who They Are in Christ Jesus. I asked that your healing grace dispel the rejectiona period of uncertainty and confusion in which a person's sense of identity becomes insecure, typically due to a change in their expected aims or role in society. Because of false accusations and demeaning actions of another.Father I know that Jesus bore our grease in our sorry, so we are not treated as outcasts but very much loved wanted and desired children of the most high God. Therefore I just declare in the face of rejection:The Lord Is My Light and My Salvation – Whom Shall I Fear? The Lord is the Refugee Stronghold of our life – of whom shall we be afraid? (Psalms 27:1)Father I just choose focus on your and let Your word reshape my mind, and thoughts about myself, I saying what God says about me. Therefore I declare over you everything God says about in his word is true:you are blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:13).You are chosen by God your father. (Ephesians 1:8)You are an air of God. His inheritance. (Ephesians 1:11)You have the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Christ. (Ephesians 1:17)You were saved by his grace (Ephesians 2:5)You are seated in the heavenly places with Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:6).You are the workmanship of God, his own chosen child. (2:10)You are a new creation in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:15)You are a child of the living God and a member of his own household, a citizen of heaven (Ephesians 2:19)You are a partaker of God's promise in Christ (2 Peter 1:4)You Are Strengthened with the Mighty Power of God's Spirit (Ephesians 3:16)Christ Himself Dwells in Your Heart by Faith (Ephesians 3:17)You Are Rooted and Grounded in Love (Ephesians 3:17)You Speak the Truth in Love (Ephesians 4:15)Your Renewed in the Spirit of Your Mind Ephesians 4:23)You Walk in Love (Ephesians 5:2)You Are filled with the Spirit of God (Ephesians 5:18)You are more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:37)Your world overcome (revelations 12:11)You are the (one Peter 2:24)You are free (John 8:36).Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death (John 8:2)You are the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13)You are set apart and sanctify in Christ Jesus for God (1 Corinthians 6:11)You're not a victim doll, you are victorious over the world (1 John 5:4).For greater is God in been he who is in the world (one John 4:4)Everything God says about you is true, for the Lord wrote these verses about you. And I pray father in the name of Jesus that they want them encouraged by your Holy Spirit and empowered to walk in the wisdom and power of God in Jesus name amen and amen
