In conversation with Buddhist nun, scholar, and activist Ven. Karma Lekshe Tsomo, tracing her remarkable arc from surfing in 1950s Malibu to ordination under the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. On hitchhiking through Southeast Asia, surf contests in 1960s Japan, Zen and copying the Heart Sutra. On women's traditions within Buddhist orders, surfing as meditation. On Vipassana, near fatal snake bites, to living with 348 percepts. On navigating the importance of ethics, on consciousness, a critique of secular mindfulness commodification. The importance of debate within Buddhism. On being kind, on Dharamsala, on grief and death, on supernormal powers, advice for finding a teacher, on comparative philosophy, on the current discourse revolving the struggle for Tibet. On the Holiness the Dalai Lama, on perseverance, on the listening to birds, on the current moment. On insight, on death, on the importance of ultimately living for others.Excerpts On SurfingI found surfing quite spiritual because, you're alone out in the ocean. It's quiet. You get a totally different perspective on life because you're not one of the little ants running around. You've got a sort of meta view of human society, which is, quite instructive. On Peace and LoveI'm still trying to figure that out. Especially in the current climate. How do you account for that? It seemed to me that peace and love were the answer and that everyone. If everyone were full of peace and love, then we would have a happy world. And so why? And then, of course, Buddhism was very helpful because it pointed out that it's our self cherishing, it's our obsession with our ourself that messes everything up. People are struggling, clawing and scraping to get their own advantage. And of course, that interferes with all their relationships and destroys their personal happiness. And very few people really figure it out.On FreedomAnd when one of the monks cut my hair, it was the most freeing experience of my life. I saw my hair drop into my lap and I thought, whoa, free at last.On the Dangers of Mindfulness without EthicsYou can kill someone very mindfully. You can rob a bank very mindfully. If you don't have any ethical foundations for your mindfulness practice, it can go all wrong. On ActionBelief is cheap. You can say anything you want and even some of the greatest religious leaders have had doubts apparently, including up to and including Mother Teresa. But how do we live our lives? That's the important thing. How do we try to create happiness for ourselves and others? How do we avoid harming ourselves and others? These are the questions that Buddhism takes up.On Supernormal Powers and Ethical ConductSuper normal powers are no surprise if we train our minds well. Our minds are capable of so much more than we credit them for. These are not the aim of Buddhist practice, but they are, there are many records legends and also texts that document attainments. The descriptions of supernormal powers occur in the very earliest strata. On RealityWe take things to exist as they appear, but we all know that's false. It's an illusion, this desk, it looks so solid. One match it's history, right? It's toast. So the Buddhists are very good at questioning the question, things like appearance and reality. On AwarenessConsciousness is a string of conscious moments, from the moment of conception, it's only one moment back to the last moment of our previous lifetime. If we meditate we can track it back. Every moment is precious. Listen to the birds - remember that human life is impermanent. That our time on this precious planet is limited. That every moment is precious and we should do, try to make the most not waste even a moment. We can gain insight, awakening in this present moment. Be Bold & Start With LovePsalm 63:1 “O God, you are my God, I seek you, my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.”When I read this verse, I thought it did a great job explaining our yearning for God.  We all need God in our lives.  We are desperate to have him in our lives.  This verse shows this in a way I don't think I could.  It also helps me realize how much I need God.  Have you ever read something and then realized that was exactly how you felt, and you didn't really know it before you read it?  I knew I loved God, and I knew I longed for God.  However, I couldn't describe it until I read this verse.  My soul thirsts for Him.  My flesh faints for Him as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.  There is no water if God is not in my life.  My life is a dry and weary land when I don't call upon God.  Carrie Underwood has a song called “What I Never Knew I Always Wanted.”  I have not heard this song before and yet I found it today while looking up something.  This song was not written about Jesus.  I believe it was written about her child, judging from the other words.  However, the chorus speaks to how many of us feel about Jesus.  The chorus says:I finally found what I never knew I always wantedI couldn't see; I was blind 'til my eyes were openedI didn't know there was a holeSomething missing in my soul'Til you filled it up with your loveI think so many people are walking around this world right now, and they don't know God is what they have always wanted.  They know they have a hole; they know something is missing in their soul, and yet they don't know what it is.  I like the line; I couldn't see; I was blind 'til my eyes were opened.  How can we help them open their eyes?  The next line in this chorus might be giving us the answer to that very question.  I didn't know there was a hole, something missing in my soul, ‘till you filled it up with your love.  What if we worked on filling people up with love?  What if we showed people so much love that they realized that it was what they had been missing in their lives?  We can't fill them up with our love, though.  Our love is broken and judgmental.  Our love is not perfect love; it is flawed, and it can hurt others, even when we don't want to.  However, if we filled them up with God's Love, the love of Jesus, they would feel an unconditional love that would fill the hole in their soul.  I know you are already asking yourself, how do I do that?  How do I love with Jesus' love and not my own love? I know you are asking this because I am asking this, too.  We are all called to be a reflection of Jesus.  We are called to love like He loved.  How did Jesus love?  We can't be expected to love like Jesus if we don't know how He loved.  The best way to know this is to look back at scripture.  Jesus Christ set a perfect example of kindness and love. Throughout His earthly ministry, Jesus showed His love for others by blessing and serving the poor, the sick, and the distressed.  Jesus did not run away from the leapers as most people did at the time.  He touched them, and He healed them.  He did not turn away anyone who needed help.  How can we show Jesus' love to others like this?  How can we bless and serve the poor, the sick, and the distressed?  Some people listening to this can go out and volunteer at a soup kitchen or a food pantry.  Maybe you would rather volunteer at a hospital or somewhere you can help out with people who are sick.  Maybe you would like to be a hospice volunteer and sit with those that are dying and have no one to be with them.  However, others are listening, and you are thinking your days of helping the poor or the sick are over because you can't get out of the house to volunteer anywhere.  I assure you, your days of helping are not over. They have just changed.  Now, instead of going and doing the volunteer work by hand, you can pray for those in need, and you can pray for people to answer God's call to go and help.  St. Terese of Lisieux is the patron saint of missions, even though she was never healthy enough to go on one.  She didn't let her health stop her from praying for everyone who could go on missions.  Jesus also showed his love for others by not making people feel bad for their actions or who they were.  God didn't condemn the tax collectors or the Roman soldiers.  He didn't condemn the woman who was caught in adultery or the woman at the well who had been married several times and was living with a man she was not married to.  In the beginning, the Love Jesus had for everyone brought people to Christianity.  People found a love they had not known before when they found Jesus.  They were used to rules and judgment.  They were used to following God, which required so much of them.  They found this new religion fascinating.  A religion where God just wanted to love you and to be loved.  He did not require much on your part. People could come as they were.  They were not expected to be perfect because Jesus set the bar when he said in Mark 2:17, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.”  The apostles were not going out and only talking to the Jewish people who knew God and were already following the laws.  They were talking to everyone who would listen, and they were preaching about God's love.  Who doesn't want to be loved?  Who doesn't want to be accepted?  I think we have lost this idea of talking about God's love somewhere along the way.  Somewhere along the way, we started talking more about the legalistic side of Christianity, especially Catholicism, than we do about the love Jesus had for everyone.  Yes, there is a right and a wrong way to live.  God tells us what the right and wrong way is in His Scripture.  However, we will never get a chance to show people the benefit of living God's way if we don't start loving them right where they are at first.  People want to be accepted for who they are and they want to be met where they are at.  Jesus didn't tell the tax collectors He would have dinner with them when they changed their life style.  He loved them while they were sinners and told them He had so much more for them.  If people feel loved and accepted, they will be open to hearing what you have to say.  We want people to know all the things Jesus says.  We want people to live according to God's ways, and we want this because we care about their souls.  This is a great thing.  I am not saying we are wrong to care about the way people are living their lives.  I am saying if we want to save their soul, we need to start with loving them just as they are.  The way to get people to want to save their own souls, which is the only way anything will change, is by being a reflection of God's love.  Love them as Jesus does.  Love them in all their imperfections and all their messiness of life.  Do not continually tell them they need to change who they are, shower them with so much love, tell them about Jesus and how much He loves them, just as they are, and pray for them.  Your prayers will do so much more than your nagging will.  If people feel judged, they will not ask questions, they will not be open to hearing anything we have to say.  I believe what God needs most from us is not us judging others and trying to talk them into changing their behaviors.  What He needs most from us is our loving others like Jesus did.  He needs us to love them so much they ask themselves, “How can I love as much as that person does?  How can I love so unconditionally?  How can I be so accepting of people?  How can I love so freely?”  When they ask those questions, then they will be open to hearing about the Gospel and about a God who loves them completely.  Can we do that?  Can we love others like Jesus did?  Can we lead with love first?Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode today.  Lord we long for you just as the verse says. Our souls thirst for you as one would thirst for water in a dry land.  Lord, we love you and we want to bring others into a personal relationship with you.  Help us do this.  Please help us to understand how to love others like you did.  Show us where in our lives we are falling short of this Lord.  Give us the strength to hold our tongue and to not nag our loved ones to do what we want them to do.  We are coming from a loving place Lord, we want to save their souls.  Yet we know you are the only one to do that Lord. Help us to learn to say less to the person and pray more to you. Help us to truly turn them over to your loving care Lord.  You care more about their souls than we ever could.  Help us Lord, we are trying.  We are so grateful for all you do.  You give light to our lamps and you brighten the darkness about us.  You are the word of God, and you are the word of life.  We love you Lord and we ask all of this in accordance with you will and in Jesus holy name, Amen.  Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus.  I look forward to spending time with you tomorrow.  Have a blessed day!Today's Word from the Lord was received in September 2024 by a member of my Catholic Charismatic Prayer Group. 5 Ways I'm reclaiming my relationship with loveI recently had a big epiphany - I can choose to be in a relationship that's thriving vs staying stuck in one and surviving. All it takes is for me to take personal responsibility for how I show up, the energy and attitude I bring and the way in which I approach our relationship.I can choose to focus on what irritates or frustrates the heck out of me (which happens to all of us in any relationship we're in - let's be honest!).Or I can choose to be proactive and focus on the type of relationship that I truly want and can envision, and then set about making it a reality…every single day, through every single action and choice I make.I recently went away on a trip and got time and space to get a different perspective about my marriage and relationship.Instead of coming back with a list of demands and things I was unhappy with or wanted changed (as if that was going to be anything but detrimental to our relationship).I chose to come back with 5 proactive ways we could invest in our relationship to make it more beautiful and loving in every way.In this podcast episode I get real honest and share exactly what those 5 things were, how Josh reacted and what's happened since! If you want to get a quick assessment of where you're at across the most important areas of your life take my free Life Audit today. Today, we're going to talk about five ways to “die to self” as worship guitarists, and the beautiful blessings that can result when we do.My wife and I are blessed to have two amazing daughters.  But with the privilege of having kids comes the need for sacrifice.  In saying “yes” to having kids, we inevitably say “no” to some other things, at least for a season. Can we both just head out on a road trip for a week?  Not without making arrangements to have the kids looked after.  Can we both work on ministry tasks straight through dinner and late into the night? Well, with our family culture, we don't usually do that, because we value the privilege of sharing a meal to debrief the day, and we also spend a few minutes with our kids at bedtime praying together. These sorts of intentional sacrifices involve a certain amount of what could be called “dying to self.” And because of our examples, our kids discover what that's about as well as they wait for the fun activities while prioritizing academics and chores.  We also eat nutritious food for our meals, and sometimes follow with dessert.  We don't typically eat dessert as a meal, right? So much of what I'm about to share with you today boils down to refining and sharpening our characters.  The symptom is how and when we play our guitars.  The real issue is the flesh, whether we want to talk about it or not.So, let's courageously talk today about some ways we can intentionally “die to self” for the glory of God and the benefit of others, as well as the maturity of our souls as worship guitarists.1. Delayed GratificationDelayed gratification is a huge missing component of our culture in today's world.  We want fast food.  We want overnight shipping.  We want instant results.   Food that is cooked fast might taste decent, but it's often less nutritious. Overnight shipping has ruined us in some ways.  I'm old enough to remember sending a check in the mail to order something, and reading the fine print on the order form that said “Please allow 6 to 8 weeks for delivery.” If our Amazon Prime order were to take even a week to arrive, we'd probably get a little antsy and frustrated, right? You're probably sensing where I'm going when it comes to music and guitar.  Many of us really want instant (or close to instant) results with the songs we want to play. I had one student come to my teaching studio who had never played the guitar before.  He said that the first song he wanted to learn was “Purple Haze” by Jimi Hendrix, and he wanted to learn it in its entirety during our first lesson. I cautioned him and encouraged him to be a bit more realistic at the beginning…and after that conversation, I never saw him again. Some guitarists want to learn songs or develop skills, but they don't want it to take a lot of time.  They long for shortcuts and hacks that reduce practice time to a fraction of what it might normally take. And unfortunately, some guitar products or sales people promise all sorts of instant results in the short term.  This might provide some momentum, but long-term, it's been my experience that these students will lose momentum when the more intermediate music comes along…because it will take more effort and more time to get results. Now, there's something to be said for practicing smarter, with greater focus, and at an optimal time of day after having good rest and with good hydration.  To that end, practice sessions can be shorter, and results can come more quickly. But the reality is that quality practice will still take some amount of time.  To expect to learn a significantly difficult guitar song in a matter of, say, 15 minutes total, is not a way to set ourselves up for being able to play the song well. So, we can “die to self” as we flex our “delayed gratification” muscles and wait patiently as we practice diligently. 2. Hard WorkI remember cramming for tests in college.  But it's my conviction that effective practice cannot be crammed, for the very reason that we won't have the songs under our fingers long-term, even if we can summon parts of them right away. And complete songs are much more of value than fragments of songs.  Have you ever heard someone start a song, and then trail off as the song just kind of falls apart?  We all have. So, as we wrap up this section, let's remember that diligent, consistent practice is a way for us to “die to self.” My father taught me the value of hard work throughout my entire childhood, and it has served me well, and also the people I've served and served with. Many blessings, including good musical execution, are waiting on the other side of good old-fashioned hard work. 3. Setting Aside Personal PreferencesI have some very specific musical tastes.  And believe it or not, as a worship leader, some of the songs I've led over the course of my career have not been my absolute favorites.A person I served with on staff at a church was absolutely baffled to learn that I wouldn't always choose songs that were personal favorites of mine. But here's why – and you may already know this.  The songs aren't just for my worship journey.  There are many people in the congregation I'm ministering to who might have a deep appreciation for some of those songs that aren't my personal preference. The only hard line I need to draw is that the songs I lead must be Biblical.  To lead songs that don't reconcile with Scripture is to lead people astray.  And so, I'm always vigilant about the message of the songs I sing (and even write.)So, if a worship guitarist is on a team (whether in a leadership or support position), and a song they are playing on is not a personal favorite, can they “die to self” and still diligently prepare and lead that song well?  That's my hope as I share these words.4. Being a Good ListenerIn our membership in GuitarSuccess4U, I'm privileged to host multiple guest expert interviews with some of the most gifted musicians I've ever collaborated with. And they offer some real pearls of wisdom in these interviews. One expert, a multi-instrumentalist and producer named Brian Reding, stated that a musician who has less experience will often play more during a song.  In some ways, it's a sign of insecurity or immaturity.  To draw a parallel, it's a lot like the person you might meet at a social gathering who mostly wants to talk about themselves and not really ask anyone else about their interests.Imagine a less mature guitarist who has come to worship rehearsal.  His or her mindset might be, “Well, I'm here.  I've brought my guitar.  I may as well play the whole time.”But here's the problem: there's only so much sonic space in the musical texture, and the guitar is just one part of that texture, as are the other instruments and voices.  If the guitarist is playing all the time, it could actually muddy the texture and make it hard for other instruments to artistically express themselves.Brian's wisdom about less experienced musicians wanting to play a lot is very telling.  The flipside is that more experienced musicians will actually do something I love to observe: they will look for places not to play. Now, that might seem counterintuitive, but following my analogy, if music is like a conversation, we would do well to exchange information.  How do we do this?  By listening.I love watching a highly gifted musician play on a team for a song, especially for the first time. They're often waiting to start playing until they've listened a bit to what's going on around them.  Then they play, and perhaps they might momentarily tacet (which is a musical expression for not playing), before coming back in.And when they do come back in, guess what?  It means more.  Picture a bass player or a drummer laying out for the penultimate chorus.  When he or she rejoins the band for the final chorus, it can feel just right.  And people who don't understand music will still appreciate it.I love the conversation of music, and I love collaborating with musical “conversationalists,” because they know when to “speak” and when to “listen.”  And then the “conversation” is much more meaningful.  It's very honoring when someone asks me about my world, rather than just constantly talking about theirs. So, if you're a musician, much as it may be tempting to play the whole time, consider this challenge: “Don't just do something; sit there.” So, we can “die to self” as musical collaborators as we look for places not to play, and listen well so as to contribute more gracefully to the musical conversation.5. Putting on LoveThis last action is inspired by Colossians 3:14.  If we put on love, we'll do all of these things well, and for the right reasons. If we don't, we'll do these things with some resentment or bitterness.  Any amount of annoyance that creeps into these actions will actually invalidate them before the Lord.Imagine if I verbally expressed gratitude, but wasn't grateful.  Imagine if I stated that I wanted to serve, but served only with an agenda and frustration at having to do so.If we put on love, we are submitting to the Lord and making intentional efforts to ensure that our motivations are pure.  We “die to self” as we put on love in all these endeavors.Wrap-Up: The Flesh Must DieWhen you saw the title of this article, I wonder if it made you just a little bit curious.  That was my intent. It can be easy to maintain the status quo of what we've always done as worship guitarists, but sometimes we need a message to shake us up and grab our attention.  That's been the intent of this collection of thoughts.Remember, the flesh wants what it wants, but without inviting the Lord to guide and strengthen us, it will try to get its way.  So, our fleshly tendencies need to…die. As we wrap up, I'll re-cap the five ways we can die to self as worship guitarists:1. Delayed Gratification2. Hard Work3. Setting Aside Personal Preferences4. Being a Good Listener5. Putting on LoveI hope at least one of these has given you pause, and challenged you to make some slight changes to your trajectory as a worship guitarist. One more verse – “I have been crucified with Christ.  It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.”  (Galatians 2:20a).If we truly acknowledge the meaning of this verse – that our sinful self has been put to death and that Christ lives in us, we can walk in His strength, for His glory, in all that we do…including through our musical offerings.Let's do that.  And let's watch what happens when we do.Now, if you're looking for more opportunities to be challenged and encouraged, I want to encourage you to check this out.  Encouragement is a high value to me and to my members in GuitarSuccess4U.  So much so, that the second lesson of every month is actually an “Encouragement Lesson.”Add to this that our Zoom calls are opportunities for real-time encouragement as a community.Interested?  Want to learn more?  Check out GuitarSuccess4U.com.  This could be the game changer you've been waiting for.  It certainly has been for many of the guitarists I'm serving in this one-of-a-kind community. Thanks for experiencing Guitar Serious Fun.  I hope this has inspired and challenged you.  I also hope you'll like and share this episode with someone.  When you do, I encourage you to share it in a way that helps the recipient understand that you want them to be sharpened by it as you have been.  Keep having serious fun as you play your guitar, and I'll see you next time. Thanks for reading Guitar Serious Fun! ***Ready to spice up your sex life? Get my FREE guide “69 Ways to Spice Up Your Sex Life” by going to www.lovefilledlife.com/69ways.***Cultivating your relationship with your partner is important even if your relationship is going well. There's no harm in improving it, as people change, circumstances change, and relationships evolve. Remember that relationships thrive on connection and consistent effort.Strengthening your relationship doesn't always require doing grand gestures or spending a lot of money. If you want to strengthen your relationship, then this episode is for you. Although there are many ways for you to cultivate love, we will just be focusing on three easy ways, as these seemingly small acts can have the most profound impact on romantic partners.Simple things to do to cultivate loveI agree with the famous saying that it is the “thought that counts”. Sometimes, couples tend to stop doing the simple things that cultivate love, especially when they are busy with work, causing them to be disconnected from each other. Cultivating love in a relationship involves more than just grand gestures; it's about the everyday moments. Even a simple "good morning" text or a lingering kiss goodbye can set a loving tone for the day. Writing simple notes saying “I love you” may not be such a grand gesture, but it's the idea that your partner thought of you before leaving the house - and took the time to let you know - that can keep the good vibes flowing throughout the day. Personally, anytime we travel, my husband and I write Hallmark cards for each other and seal it, so that we can put it in each other's suitcase as a loving surprise for the trip.Set aside five minutes to connectAnd although the both of you might be too busy for each other, set aside five minutes of your time to sit down and take the time to connect with each other. In my therapy practice, I recommend to my clients to have five minutes of uninterrupted conversation with their partner to talk about their relationship. This greatly cultivates the relationship because you're building each other's trust and nurturing your love through a deeper connection. Spending quality time together fosters deeper emotional connection and helps partners understand each other better. During these moments, you can share how your day went, discuss any concerns or challenges, and listen to your partner's thoughts. Holding your partner's hand as you navigate through your day's events, or sharing your thoughts can be deeply meaningful. These gestures not only create a strong emotional connection, but also reinforce the bond between you and your partner.Trust is built over time through consistent actions and open communication. By consistently being present, you reinforce the trust your partner has in you. Setting aside five minutes for each other can also prevent issues from escalating into bigger problems. Do something new with your partnerSometimes, you just need to sprinkle a bit of excitement into your relationship by doing something new with your partner. In fact, research studies show that doing something new together releases dopamine – a feel good hormone. Breaking away from your same old routine can make your relationship more vibrant and alive. This boosts the communication in your relationship as you go through unfamiliar territory, ensuring that you're on the same page and learning more about each other's preferences.New experiences can rekindle passion and attraction between partners. Find things to do in your area that you think the both of you will enjoy. If you want to be more organized, you can try making a master list of

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life (Proverbs 13:12).How to Cope in Crisis and Chronic sadness?A. My conviction: Christianity is true, rational, and pertinent to whole of life. See Douglas Groothuis, Christian Apologetics; see especially, “The Problem of Evil” chapterB. Yet there is evil, pain, suffering, and lamentC. But, we can smelt, squeeze, and sculpt meaning out of suffering through divine loveI. Lament: A Tonic for Suffering A. A tonic, not a cure (in this life)What is biblical lament?1. The anguished cry of sorrow, grief, and often anger made before God and with hope of resolution. Lament is caused the loss of a something good or by the fear of the loss of a good thing, such as justice, health, or a loving relationship. Add “Black” to the conversation and it takes a different angle. This is just two friends hashing out their past mistakes and trying to find ways to maintain connectivity and rise above what they've been taught and become. Are you perceived flaws actually a superpower? Seamus Evans would say yes.  He believes that adversity can either be a setback or a gateway.Seamus has been a stand up comic, radio and television personality, with quick wit and a passion for creating inclusivity through entertainment.   During the outset of the pandemic Seamus like many others found his world turned upside down.  He was made redundant in a job he loved.  He took that time to soul search and ask himself two critically  important questions, "Who am I?" and "What do I absolutely love to do?"  Once he got clear on the answer, he made a critical decision.  Seamus resolved to say yes only to the things he loved most.  A number of which he found in public speaking.  Once he made the decision that being a public speaker was the next phase of his career, he threw himself into it, making over 1000 calls, stopping at nothing until he became an ambassador for the Tourette syndrome Association of Australia (TSAA), entertaining, inspiring and educating  audiences full-time.  In this episode we discuss:How Tourette's (or any perceived flaw) can be a superpowerChanning nerves into excitement, creating high performance under pressureBeing comfortable in the unknownListening!  Embracing failureWhy pursuing safety is the most dangerous choice you can makeBeing selfishly selflessHow humor can be a tool for inclusivitySaying yes to what you loveI loved this episode and I believe you will too.For more information on Seamus Evans visit:www.seamusevans.com

Start With LovePsalm 63:1 “O God, you are my God, I seek you, my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.”When I read this verse I thought it did a great job explaining the yearning we have for God.  We all need God in our lives.  We are desperate to have him in our lives.  This verse shows this in a way I don't think I could.  It also helps me realize how much I need God.  Have you ever read something and then realized that was exactly how you felt, and you didn't really know it before you read it?  I knew I loved God and I knew I longed for God.  However, I couldn't put it into words until I read this verse.  My soul thirsts for Him.  My flesh faints for Him as in a dry and weary land where there is not water.  There is no water if God is not in my life.  My life is a dry and weary land when I don't call upon God.  Carrie Underwood has a song called, “What I Never Knew I Always Wanted.”  I have not heard this song before and yet I found it today while looking up something.  This song was not written about Jesus.  I believe it was written about her child judging from the other words.  However, the chorus speaks to the way many of us feel about Jesus.  The chorus says:I finally found what I never knew I always wantedI couldn't see; I was blind 'til my eyes were openedI didn't know there was a holeSomething missing in my soul'Til you filled it up with your loveI think so many people are walking around this world right now and they don't know God is what they have always wanted.  They know they have a hole, they know something is missing in their soul and yet they don't know what it is.  I like the line, I couldn't see; I was blind 'til my eyes were opened.  How can we help them open their eyes?  The next line in this chorus might be giving us the answer to that very question.  I didn't know there was a hole, something missing in my soul, ‘till you filled it up with your love.  What if we worked on filling people up with love?  What if we showed people so much love they realized that is what they have been missing in their lives?  We can't fill them up with our love though.  Our love is broken and judgmental.  Our love is not a perfect love, it is flawed and it can hurt others, even when we don't want to.  However, if we filled them up with God's Love, the love of Jesus, then they would feel an unconditional love that would fill the hole in their soul.  I know you are already asking yourself, how do I do that?  How do I love with Jesus' love and not my own love? I know you are asking this because I am asking this too. He touched them and He healed them.  He did not turn away anyone who needed help.  How can we show Jesus' love to others like this?  How can we bless and serve the poor, the sick, and the distressed?  Some people listening to this can go out and volunteer at a soup kitchen, or a food pantry.  Maybe you would rather volunteer at a hospital or somewhere you can help out with people who are sick.  Maybe you would like to be a hospice volunteer and sit with those that are dying and have no one to be with them?  However, there are others that are listening and you are thinking your days of helping the poor or the sick are over because you can't get out of the house to volunteer anywhere.  I assure you, your days of helping are not over, they have just changed.  Now instead of going and doing the volunteer work by hand, you can pray for those in need and you can pray for people to answer God's call to go and help.  St. Terese of Lisieux is the patron saint of missions even though she was never healthy enough to go on one.  She didn't let her health stop her from praying for everyone who could go on missions.  Jesus also showed his love for others by not making people feel bad for what they did or who they were.  God didn't condemn the tax collectors, or the Roman soldiers.  He didn't condemn the woman who was caught in adultery or the woman at the well who had been married several times and was living with a man she was not married to.  What brought people to Christianity in the very beginning was the Love Jesus had for everyone.  People were finding a love they had not known before when they found Jesus.  They were used to rules and judgement.  They were used to following God's that required so much of them. They were talking to everyone who would listen and they were preaching about God's love.  Who doesn't want to be loved?  Who doesn't want to be accepted?  I think we have lost this idea of talking about God's love somewhere along the way.  Somewhere along the way we started talking more about the legalistic side of Christianity, especially Catholicism, than we do about the love Jesus had for everyone.  Yes, there is a right and a wrong way to live.  Yes, God tells us what that right and wrong way is in His Scripture.  However, we will never get a chance to show people the benefit of living God's way, if we don't start with loving them right where they are at first.  People want to be accepted for who they are and they want to be met where they are at.  Jesus didn't tell the tax collectors He would have dinner with them when they changed their life style.  He loved them while they were sinners and told them He had so much more for them.  If people feel love and accepted they will be open to hearing what you have to say.  We want people to know all the things Jesus says.  We want people to live according to God's ways and we want this because we care about their souls. You are the word of God and you are the word of live.  We love you Lord and we ask all of this in accordance with you will and in Jesus holy name, Amen.  Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus.  I look forward to spending time with you tomorrow.  Have a blessed day!

For this inaugural episode, I'm joined by Dave, music expert and possible unabomber, as we take a very deep dive into a very shallow pop song, risking severe spinal injury.  "Give it up" has amateurish romance, coercion, status-theft, goitres, parasitic twins, gas-lighting, possessiveness, drooling libido, hobby ideas, the id/ego/super-ego, donuts, Julia Roberts, the films of Richard Curtis, game-players, and basic instincts. Risk is integral to all new ventures, so we appreciate that you've risked your time on this new podcast. Tell your friends! (if you like it) Play along at home with the lyrics: Everybody wants youEverybody wants your loveI'd just like to make you mine, all mine Na-na, na-na, na-na, na-na-na-na nowBaby, give it upGive it upBaby, give it upNa-na, na-na, na-na, na-na-na-na nowBaby, give it upGive it upBaby, give it up Everybody sees youEverybody looks and staresI'd just like to make you mine, all mine Na-na, na-na, na-na, na-na-na-na nowBaby, give it upGive it upBaby, give it upNa-na, na-na, na-na, na-na-na-na nowBaby, give it upGive it upBaby, give it upGive it up Na-na, na-na, na-na, na-na-na-na, nowBaby, give it upGive it upBaby, give it upNa-na, na-na, na-na, na-na-na-na, nowBaby, give it upGive it upBaby, give it up Everybody wants youEverybody wants your loveI'd just like to make you mine, all mine Na-na, na-na, na-na, na-na-na-na nowBaby, give it upGive it upBaby, give it upNa-na, na-na, na-na, na-na-na-na, nowBaby, give it upGive it upBaby, give it up Can you give it?Can you give it?Give it upCome on, babyI need your love (Give it up, give it up, baby, give it up)Do you know I want you babyCome on baby I want your love (Give it up, give it up, baby, give it up)Give it up, some of your loveCome on and play the game of love (Give it up, give it up, baby, give it up)Everybody, is it me, give it upCome on, babyI need your love (Give it up, give it up, baby, give it up)Can I touch you, can I love you?Come on, baby, babyI love you (Give it up, give it up, baby, give it up) Can you give it, give it up?Come on, babyGive me your love (Give it up, give it up, baby, give it up)Don't you know I want your love?Come on, baby, I need your love Would you like to appear (well, vocally) on the show? 054 – Have you ever wondered why God loves you so much? Many years ago I met a woman who just couldn't believe that God loved  her. She had made some pretty big life-mistakes and was absolutely sure God would never forgive her. I tried to comfort her, but to no avail.  In this week's episode, I explore the reason that God loves us, even though we have made serious mistakes in our lives and done things that do not please God. God's unconditional loveI also share a little conversation I had with God a couple of years ago. I just couldn't wrap my head around why or how God could love me so much. I knew intellectually that He loved me, but as a practical matter, it seemed I had let God down so many times. In this conversation, God explains why He loved me. This is true for you as well. How to experience God's loveIt's one thing to talk about God's love for us, but it's another thing altogether to feel and experience that love. I share several things that have helped me actually experience God's love more. There are many reasons why God loves us. Why do we argue against this love? Why do we think we are not worthy of His love? Listen to find out why and what you can do about it.I would love tho hear how you have discovered God's love for yourself. To see the Bible references in this episode, please check out the show notes: thebiblespeakstoyou.com/054Do you know someone who is not sure if God loves them? Life, love and the blues.Hey, i've got something to tell youSay, i wanna tell you about these three things.First you have life. You open your eyes and you have life.Next, you look around and then you´re in loveI mean love. And then see that nothing lasts forever,The big b comes around and sucks you,That is the mighty blues.I lived my life with passionI love the way i feelWhat if i did it any other way,It wouldn't be me.Some say the road is easyOthers find it hard,But i am here to tell you the newsWouldn't mean nothing without the blues.I said life, love and the blues.Life, love and the blues.I've been loved, been loved, left alone.I've been had 'cause i've been bad,Broke some hearts in my own.I know the blues got me through,I´m here to tell you, when you got the blues,Oh, you're never, never alone.I said, life, love and the blues.Ain't nothing like life, sweet love and the blues.First you have life,You open your eyes and you're alive,And then, next, you look around and then you´re in love.I mean love. And then here comes, here comes the big b,The blues.YeahAin't nothing like, nothing like love and the blues.Said life, sweet love and the blues.Ain't nothing like, ain't nothing like the blues. We've been in love, been in loveLeft alone.Ain't nothing like,Nothing like life, sweet love, and the blues. When you got the blues,Ain't nothing like, ain't nothing like the bluesWouldn't mean nothing without the bluesI said life, sweet love and the blues.I'm here to tell you about life, love and the blues.
