Donnie may have peed his pants from laughing so hard during this week's episode. He and Tid are joined by their pal - award winning filmmaker and comedian Joey Medina. Joey was on the road, getting ready for a show in San Diego, and unfortunately, his wifi was pretty awful. As a result, we got a little out of him, but his signal kept dropping out at the weirdest moments, and it entertained us to no end. There was a time we probably would have edited all of that and got it down to a fairly clean interview - but we decided to pull the curtain back and share all the nonsense with you.Honestly, it's a lot of fun. This is a great episode and you should definitely check it out! Bill and Joey Medina (Original Latin Kings of Comedy, Latinpalooza, Real Rob) met at the Hollywood Laugh Factory about 12 years ago during "Latin night," but didn't really closely work together until lockdown, when Joey set out to make a short film which confronted racism, mortality, and "the N-word" in a dramatic and original way. Joey ended up writing "Beautiful Violence" and cast Bill, as well as friend of the pod, Eric Blake - who Bill recommended after hearing Eric's harrowing story on "The Afterlaugh" about running a national drug cartel. Currently, "Beautiful Violence" has gotten into 7 festivals and has even won awards. Monday, September 13th, it will make it's "theatrical debut" at the Pasadena International Film Festival. Vinnie Montez is a Colorado native, he grew up in the largely homogenous community of Boulder, CO, which prides itself on being a bastion of cultural diversity, but which is honestly just weird. Growing up, he always wanted to be a police officer. Now a 22-year veteran of law enforcement, his experiences as a cop and his Mexican heritage are the foundation for his comedy: you just can’t make some of this stuff up. Vinnie got into comedy in 2007 as a means of addressing the stress and trauma of dealing with horrible situations on a regular basis. Since then he has performed regularly at Denver’s Comedy Works and other national venues. His first comedy special debut was on Dry Bar Comedy, released in 2019, Vinnie Montez: Armed & Hilarious. With a focus on telling funny stories about being a police officer and promoting better mental health for the men and women in blue, he is a favorite at events around the nation. Vinnie has shared the stage with Michelle Wolf, Chris D’Elia, Joe Rogan, John Crist, Josh Blue, Paul Rodriguez, Gilbert Gottfried, Nick Guerra, Brian Posehn, Gina Brillon, Joey Medina, Caroline Rhea, Bob Marley and more. In 2018 Vinnie was inducted as an official member of Humanizing the Badge (HTB), an organization on a mission to help forge stronger relationships between law enforcement officers and the communities they serve. Vinnie has become a favorite among law enforcement and corporate audiences alike, performing for the Colorado Fraternal Order of Police, Special Olympics International Law Enforcement Torch Run Conference (Denver), Colorado Association of School Resource Officers, Rocky Mountain Hostage Negotiators, International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators, County Sheriffs of Colorado, Law Enforcement Explorer Post Advisors Association of Colorado, National Latino Peace Officers Association, Humanize the Badge, KYGO’s Christmas Crusade for Children, Hallie’s Heroes and many more. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/otcpod1/support

It's been said that we need more Latino representation behind the camera in Hollywood. Today we talk to 3 directors (Joey Medina, Tom Sanchez and Christian Sesma) who are self-made and still growing in their careers. They have worked their asses off to make films they are passionate about. And only one of them has actually been to film school. If you ever wanted to know the ins and outs of the independent film business - from a zombie/horror director to a foreign film director and a director who's leaning toward action-adventure - listen to these guys tell some stories of how it IS possible to achieve that dream.
