"Someone might say, I don't understand music; but most people experience music emotionally and would agree that music is an abstraction. You don't need to put music into words right away—you just listen. Cinema is a lot like music. It can be very abstract, but people have a yearning to make intellectual sense of it, to put it right into words." - David LynchSomeone might say the world lost a giant earlier this year, when the beloved David Lynch shrugged off this mortal coil and bid farewell to the world. As sad as David's passing is, we're beyond lucky to have access to his art and we can experience a work of David Lynch as many times as we want. We can also have a great discussion and a fine playlist that highlights some of the best Lynchian musical moments. Here in Top Ten Songs From The Works Of David Lynch Part 2, we reveal picks 5-1 and wrap up our epic tribute to the man. Earlier this year, the world lost a giant. We here at ATTT HQ are big fans of artists. Artists, complicated and strange so they may seem, are the lifeblood of creativity and man-and-woman-made joy on this bleak planet of ours. In the realm of film & television, David Lynch is in the pantheon of artistic creators, especially when you consider how expertly he incorporated music in his output. Here in Top Ten Songs From The Works Of David Lynch, we're joined by longtime friend of the pod, the immaculate Matt Dinan. We had a blast going through The Master's catalog and highlighting some of our favorite Lynchian musical moments. Picks 10-6 are revealed here in Part 1. If you've never seen the trailer for Matt's indie short film After The Flesh, give it a look see:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APlUmuDuqs4And don't forget to visit the LA Frankenstein YouTube channel for general Dinan-ness:https://www.youtube.com/@LA_FrankensteinWe've lowered our prices, but not our standards over at the ATTT Patreon! He's also dead! After the recap we jump into episode 9 of the final season of Beastars, where they'd like us to believe that someone got un-alived but they've pulled that stunt before, we're not buying it.Then we jump into two more episodes of Lower Decks: season 3, where even if our four main characters can't seem to stop and parse out a situation for five seconds before making a decision (you all could've had a room! Together!) we can at least agree that Dr. T'ana is just hilariously wrong and awesome.Plus some tangents into Jack Quaid's movie career, Twin Peaks music, books that color your whole travel experience, and a political rant (but that last one was totally Elizabeth's fault and she's very very sorry.)This week's outro is a clip from by Waggish by Grumplefunk. The Twin Peaks singer we were trying to think of is Julee Cruise.Correction: it's not the twenty's anniversary of House of Leaves IT'S THE TWENTY FIFTH AAAAAA.Looking for a present for that hard-to-shop-for person? If you're old enough to have been watching network television in 1990, just the first two notes of this music should have sent an involuntary shiver down your spine. It conjures up atavistic, possibly suppressed, memories of the strange, disconcerting world of the late film and television director DAVID LYNCH—creator of the award-winning series “TWIN PEAKS,” who passed away in January, 2025. It's a perfect example of the Lynch brand of “Visionary Surrealism,” a mixture of the banal, the beautiful, and the sinister —a juxtaposition of mysterious or menacing sounds and images with mundane, everyday environments. On this transmission of HEARTS of SPACE, a tribute to the banal, bizarre, beautiful, and disconcerting world of DAVID LYNCH, on a program called "SO DARK.” Music is by ANGELO BADALAMENTI, JULEE CRUISE, TOM NEWMAN, JEFF GREINKE, and GABRIEL YARED. What happened? Where were we? Paul, Arlo, and third Gobbler Eric Sipple attempt to answer these questions on our season 16 premiere. Along the way, we eulogize master filmmaker David Lynch, discussing what made his Midwest surrealism so unique and why the “Lynchian” descriptor so often fails to capture his genius. We also run down a list of some of our favorite pop culture from last year, including I Saw the TV Glow (there's some disagreement), The Substance (ditto), Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees, and much, much more.   NEXT: a big fat TBD.     MUSIC “Mairzy Doats” by Ray Wise “Falling” by Julee Cruise, Twin Peaks (1990)     GOBBLEDYCARES National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/  Abortion Funds in Every State: https://bit.ly/AbortionFundsTwitter Support AAPI communities and those affected by anti-Asian violence: https://www.gofundme.com/c/act/stop-aapi-hate Support the AAPI Civic Engagement Fund: https://aapifund.org/ Support Black Lives Matter and find anti-racism resources: https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/ The Trevor Project provides information and support to LGBTQ youth: thetrevorproject.org Trans Lifeline: https://translifeline.org/  National Center for Transgender Equality: transequality.org Advocate for writers who might be owed money due to discontinuance of royalties: https://www.writersmustbepaid.org/  Help teachers and classrooms in need: https://www.donorschoose.org/ Do your part to remove the burden of medical debt for individuals, families, and veterans: https://www.unduemedicaldebt.org/  Register to vote: https://vote.gov/

Jessie has worked with some amazing musicians, including the late and very great, Steve Mackay, who provided saxophone on the first two Stooges albums and drummer, Budgie from legendary post-punk band, Siouxsie and The Banshees.    As well as discussing Nauti Siren, Dmitry also talks in-depth about the recording of ‘Groove Is In The Heart' and his time in Deee-lite This much-loved group enjoyed international success with their single, ‘Groove Is In The Heart', which Rolling Stone Magazine recently called one of 10 best dance tracks of all time.  It's a truly iconic track, which still gets played on the radio and in clubs across the world. Deee-lite had six number-ones in the U.S. Dance music charts during the five years they were together before disbanding in 1994.  Since then, Dmitry has gone to collaborate and work with a diverse range of artists including Chaka Khan, Julee Cruise, Sinead O'Connor and Ziggy Marley.  Jessie and Dmitry describe Nauti Siren as a mythological creature, calling from the portal where the elements of water (emotions) meet air (higher knowledge).  LINKS https://nautisiren.bandcamp.com/community Nauti Siren - Mermaid Of The Year Nauti Siren performing live at the Mermaid Parade - great footage! Blue Rose Task Force: A Twin Peaks Obsessive Podcast

Your host John takes the music of Twin Peaks on its own to look at how it was made and how it was used in the original series. Get a look at the various music releases over the years, and how Angelo Badalamenti, David Lynch and Julee Cruise began working together. Then explore the circular nature of the music, how motifs and instruments associate with characters and themes, and what the Lynchian lyrics can tell us about Twin Peaks.Production by Mitch Proctor and Area 42 Studios and SoundAdditional audio editing John Bernardywww.RuminationsRadioNetwork.comwww.instagram.com/RuminationsRadioNetworkwww.25yearslatersite.comInstagram: BlueRoseTaskForceTwitter: RuminationsRadioNetwork@RuminationsNTwitter: @BlueRoseTFpodhttps://www.patreon.com/RuminationsRadioEmail ruminationsradio@gmail.comEmail bluerosetaskforcepodcast@gmail.com ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

This guest made me float. It's an unusual episode. Today's guest is Julee Cruise and was recorded in April of 2019. For reasons I have forgotten, the episode was delayed and ended up slipping through the cracks in an old Work In Progress file. Unfortunately we lost Julee in June of 2022. In this episode, Julee is very candid about her work. You'll find out why, early on in the discussion. She talks about how she got into singing, acting, and playing the french horn. And although she didn't want to spend too much time discussing her work with David Lynch, she does talk about meeting him, the first thing he ever said to her, and trying to get him to sing. She did get a record deal based on her work on Blue Velvet but that's not where the strangeness ends. At one point, she was guest on a TV show overseas, seated next to Muammar Gaddafi! Julee also talks about the luxury of touring with the B-52's and the moments when she had some severe performance anxiety. She released two albums that were heavy on the David Lynch sound. However, she had much more involvement in her final two albums, which deserved a lot more recognition than they seemed to get. Please check them all out. You definitely won't regret it and you might actually be surprised! Remember to give us a follow @PerformanceAnx on X & Instagram. You can show us a little love with coffee money at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety or purchasing merch at performanceanx.threadless.com. Jackie and Greg visit the seemingly sleepy town of Lumberton for David Lynch's BLUE VELVET from 1986. Topics of discussion include the film's contrasting tone, the dream-world Norman Rockwell façade vs. the festering insects underneath, how it's maybe Lynch's most coherent vision, and where it fits in with the rest of his films.#69 on Sight & Sound's 2012 "The 100 Greatest Films of All Time" list.https://www.bfi.org.uk/sight-and-sound/polls/greatest-films-all-time-2012#85 on Sight & Sound's 2022 "The Greatest Films of All Time" list.  https://www.bfi.org.uk/sight-and-sound/greatest-films-all-timeCheck us out on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sceneandheardpodCheck us out at our official website: https://www.sceneandheardpod.comJoin our weekly film club: https://www.instagram.com/arroyofilmclubJP Instagram/Twitter: jacpostajGK Instagram: gkleinschmidtGraphic Design: Molly PintoMusic: Andrew CoxGet in touch at hello@sceneandheardpod.comSupport the showSupport the show on Patreon: patreon.com/SceneandHeardPodorSubscribe just to get access to our bonus episodes: buzzsprout.com/1905508/subscribe

My guests this month are the incorrigible and irredeemable Emily 7.  We start the episode desperately trying to piece together how we first me which proved impossible. The details of our adventures are foggier than a winters morning by a lake (and all the better for it) so we moved on to the segments once we'd agreed on a chronology of events. After debating the correct pronunciation of street names, we move on to Sonic Seconds and tickle our brains with moments from Gilla Band, Led Zeppelin and Labi Siffre (who we find out was the original Slim Shady).  From there we hear about a potentially lethal run in with sodium hydroxide at my place of work, and a potentially lethal gig for Emily 7 in Mountjoy Prison before Have I Got Tunes For You gives us the chance to shine with recommendations ranging from Guthrie Govan to Curly Bliss to Julee Cruise to Diiv.  Rounding out the evening, Scott wows us with his Clinton impression and then him and Dan disappoints us with their predilection for and proficiency with prank phone calls.

Let's bring it on home, folks! In this super-sized sendoff, we reflect on the rewatch adventure we went on with you, dear listeners, and we ponder some deep questions about what makes this show magic, after all these years (and in at least three different universes). With 18 months of coffee, kismet, and conundrums under our belts, we close the conversation with: Jennifer, on the singular voice and presence of our beloved Julee Cruise; Colin, on what we learned bringing you this humble pod; Damon, on the ultimate theory of what Twin Peaks really is (!!!); and Jonathan, on the dichotomies and dualities that echo after the final curtain. For our last Twist (for now), we wrangle over the Top Ten Greatest Episodes of Twin Peaks, According to Us, At Least For This Week. And with that, we come to the end of our focus on “Twin Peaks”—but we're not abandoning you in the dark woods! Starting in July, we transition to the wider world of the Lynch-verse and switch to our new monthly format—first up: Lynch's 1997 masterpiece, Lost Highway!LISTEN: Apple Podcasts | Google Podcasts | BuzzSprout | Spotify | RSS | and more!

The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2022/06/binary-system-podcast-319-wtnv-209-the-black-coat-and-peaky-blinders-season-six/ Let's start out this podcast by wishing Welcome To Night Vale a very happy ten year anniversary! One day late! 'Cause that's how we roll. The episode that came out before the anniversary is bringing back an old adversary, and Cecil soon finds himself on the Crooked Path to the Narrow Place to meet a man who wears a black coat and who never existed. And no, we don't know what any of that means. If a ten year anniversary of a podcast isn't enough excitement for you, we also watched the first episode of the final season of Peaky Blinders! Listen in as we have an error-prone recap filled with random noises (car engines, computer fans, the TV in the next room being too darn loud), snafus about character names and locations, random asides that we normally wouldn't include in the final cut, and a few digressions to discuss Stranger Things and dueling reviews of Jurassic World: Dominion. This week's outro is a little different from our usual fare, but since we're talking about Peaky Blinders we just couldn't resist something named Peak Beak by Doctor Turtle. The song itself is pretty irresistible too. Correction: We forgot to mention the name of the Twin Peaks singer who passed away recently. It's Julee Cruise, and she'll be missed. Here's the link to Hugh's glowing review of Jurassic World: Dominion https://pixelatedgeek.com/2022/06/review-jurassic-world-dominion/. And here's David's review where he calls it garbage. https://letterboxd.com/leninhawk/film/jurassic-world-dominion/ You decide! Looking for a present for that hard-to-shop-for person? I'm talking the power of plants and mushrooms, as well as what to eat and what NOT TO EAT. Don't find out the hard way!!! I'll also recall the time Dee Snider ate something INSANE live on the air!!!!

Here we go folks, this is the episode you've been wanting to hear! Doug and Bill go into the week of wrestling like only they know how. This week they talk about wrestling while injured, Patrick Mahomes, Kyle O'Reilly, #GoAvsGo, the All Atlantic Championship, Hell In A Cell, KC dining, Primos Wrestling, New Era Pro Wrestling, Under the Banner Of Heaven, Judgment Day, Dark Side of The Ring, AEW's Women's division, fishing with your kids, and of course the association of the arrow of time with entropy or a quantum mechanical system collapsing. This and all episodes moving forward are now a part of the CPP For Peace & Prosperity Network. CPPFPAPN, is a new telecommunications group that will bring forth the next great reset. Thanks CPP For Peace & Prosperity Network, being the beacon on the hill and the light in our souls. Here are a couple of questions for you after listening: If time is moving backwards does that mean that I will eventually see Mallory and my family? Who is currently your favorite female wrestler? Who is a dumb, CM Punk or Cody Rhodes? My answers: This is what I am holding out hope for. I really like Michelle McCool. Being from the mid-west this is a slam dunk, CM Punk. Lynchtober on Cinphomaniac continues with Blue Velvet,  David Lynch's 1986 Psychological Thriller and Neo-Noir - some may say "masterpiece" (we don't, but we love it none the less), starring Kyle MacLachlan, Laura Dern, Isabella Rossellini, and Dennis Hopper. Marcus and Dana talk about that iconic cast, its uniting of Lynch with composer Angelo Badalamenti and vocalist Julee Cruise, the twisted brilliance of Hopper as the meme machine Sandman - Frank Booth, the complexity of tackling the film's relationship to misogyny and consent via both its roots in the Noir genre and the films Freudian explorations of sexual desire and fetish, as well as the writing of the female characters - Dorthy and Sandy, the economic and political history - past and present - that inform how we should understand the post-industrial American small-city, what The Lost Footage warns us about the film that could've been, and the film's long lasting legacy and impact. All that and even more - in Part 2 of Lynchtober!
