Country music legend Dolly Parton has died at 80. Her family announced the news Tuesday. The Grammy-winning icon had recently been dealing with health issues following her husband's death in 2025. Monsoon storms hammered Utah's national parks this week. Flash flooding at Bryce Canyon trapped 11 hikers — two were hospitalized with hypothermia. Plus, a large rockfall at Zion. Also, a lightning strike in Margate, Florida, killed a mother and her 2-year-old daughter as they exited their car during a storm. Plus: Callaway Golf and Good Good Golf face backlash over a deleted ad showing a man shoving a woman — both have apologized. And a viral stroller-struggle video every parent will understand.   KSL Brightside streams live weekdays 12–3 PM. Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, and the Mighty Five: A National Parks Road Trip

A Trip Born from a Train Obsession (and Family History) Ryan has had his eye on the Rocky Mountaineer since 2018, when he first heard about their Canadian Rockies routes at a travel conference. Add in a grandfather who was a train engineer between South Bend and Chicago, and a new Canyon Spirit line running from Salt Lake City to Denver — it was only a matter of time. About a year ago, Ryan brought the idea to his parents, and six months before departure, it was officially booked. The result: three trips in one — Las Vegas, the Mighty Five National Parks of Utah, and a two-day train journey from Moab to Denver, with the 4th of July spent riding the rails on the 250th birthday of the United States.Las Vegas: More Than Just the Casinos Ryan, his wife Jasmine, and his parents stayed at Park MGM — smoke-free, well-connected to the strip via tram, and conveniently the pickup point for their Hoover Dam tour and Mighty Five transfer. Day one was a hop-on, hop-off bus tour to orient the first-timers, covering the old strip, new strip, and Fremont Street. A word of caution from Ryan: know exactly what you're buying. Their "24-hour pass" ran from 10 AM to 5 PM and only circled one direction — worth knowing in advance. Day two was a VIP Hoover Dam tour, complete with a comedian-guide who grew up in the area, a descent into the dam's tunnels to see the power plant and turbines, and bridge views overlooking the dam. Lunch was included. Total time: about 8 AM to 2 PM — leaving the evening free for dinner and a little fun.A Few Vegas Tips Worth Knowing The airport is a 10-minute Uber from most strip hotels. Ubers and Lyfts are easy and reliable. And a heads-up for anyone who hasn't been in a while: Las Vegas has fully reinvented itself as an entertainment city — the 99-cent buffets are long gone, and the price tag reflects it. Budget accordingly. The Mighty Five: Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Arches, and Canyonlands All five parks are in Utah, and Ryan's group covered them in three days through Moab Express — a highly recommended tour company operating out of 12-passenger vans with a guide who doubles as driver. Groups of eight, stops every hour and a half, snacks and water onboard, and a guide named Ben who could riff on geology, history, or nature depending on what you wanted. The pacing was relaxed — visitor centers, photo stops, souvenir shops, and a few short hikes on day three. Not a trip for serious hikers, but absolutely the right vehicle for first-time park visitors who want to see a lot without driving themselves. Meals were included, accommodations ranged from a well-kept Best Western Plus in Bryce to the Hoodoo Hilton (Curio Collection) in Moab, and the only out-of-pocket cost was alcohol. Each park managed to one-up the last — from the red-rock drama of Zion to the alien hoodoos of Bryce Canyon to the staggering scale of Canyonlands, which Ryan says rivals the Grand Canyon.Where in the World?

Fresh from AALL in Cleveland, Greg reflects on a conference filled with legal information professionals who understand how technology performs under real working conditions. These librarians purchase products, train users, support law schools and courts, and often serve as internal advocates for legal technology. Their expertise makes vendor engagement especially valuable, yet major product announcements were scarce. Marlene balances Greg's conference report with stories from her hiking trip through Zion and Bryce Canyon, plus a brief comparison of Ohio and Utah karaoke culture. The conversation turns to the rapid growth of innovation attorney positions across law firms and legal organizations. Greg and Marlene describe these professionals as translators who connect legal practice, technology, workflow design, and organizational change. Firms are searching beyond traditional legal career paths for people who combine technical fluency with strong interpersonal skills. For law students and junior lawyers facing uncertainty around AI, these emerging roles offer broader career options beyond the familiar associate track.Marlene explores the growing use of AI personas and simulations for professional development. Deposition witnesses, opposing counsel, negotiation partners, and drafting reviewers now appear as interactive characters with distinct goals and behaviors. Lawyers receive a place to practice, make decisions, and receive feedback before working with clients or appearing in court. Greg connects simulation-based learning with legal fiction, including his Beyond the Model series, which uses a fictional law firm to explain AI systems, business pressures, and changes in legal work. The discussion takes a serious turn with a reported AI benchmarking incident involving an agentic model, a breached sandbox, and unauthorized access to Hugging Face resources in search of an answer key. Greg and Marlene examine the episode as a warning about containment, accountability, and excessive faith in technical guardrails. From there, they consider the renewed importance of knowledge management and security as AI systems gain access to documents, financial information, client data, and institutional expertise. Greg predicts growing attention around AI harnesses, structured software layers designed to guide model behavior and produce predictable outputs.Marlene closes with examples of AI moving into client intake, business qualification, and workflow decisions, including an AI legal receptionist designed for smaller firms. The larger shift involves moving beyond simple tool adoption toward redesigned workflows, staffing models, pricing structures, and client service. Token costs are creating immediate budget pressure, while clients are questioning which AI expenses belong on their bills. Greg and Marlene argue firms must connect AI spending with legal judgment, measurable value, and responsible delivery, rather than treating consumption as a proxy for progress.Listen on mobile platforms:  Apple Podcasts |  Spotify | YouTube | Substack[Special Thanks to Legal Technology Hub for their sponsoring this episode.] Email: geekinreviewpodcast@gmail.comMusic: Jerry David DeCiccaTranscript:

Send us a textTrade the crowds for silence and stone. We take you onto Codachrome Basin's Panorama Trail in southern Utah, where red Entrada sandstone meets pale Henryville layers and the desert's famous sand spires tell a surprising story about water, pressure, and time. Instead of hoodoos, these pillars rose from saturated sand forced upward long ago, then emerged as the softer surroundings eroded. The loop stays friendly underfoot, but the views scale up fast: Ballerina Spire, the quirky Hat Shop, tight turns through Secret Passage, and the wide-air drama of Mammoth Spire. We walk counterclockwise, tracing simple junctions and weighing side trips with the clock. A ranger's geology talk reframes every overlook—ancient dunes, seismic squeeze, and iron-rich reds that make the cliffs glow. The short spur to Panorama Point seals the deal, opening a sweeping look toward Bryce country without the shoulder-to-shoulder viewpoint shuffle. It's a day built on small choices that pay off big: pause for a snack in the shade, study wind-carved textures up close, then step back and let the horizon run.If you're planning a Bryce Canyon trip, consider this as your quieter complement: fewer people, different formations, and a narrative of stone that deepens the whole region. We share practical tips on route direction, timing, water, and which side spurs are worth the detour so you can shape your own loop without guesswork. Get ready for a wild ride with "Princess Battle Royale" - the most hilarious and action-packed children's book you'll want to read this summer! Author Phaea Crede & Illustrator Jen Hill join host Jed Doherty to discuss their uproarious new picture book that mashes up fairy tale princesses with professional wrestling. Imagine Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Rapunzel throwing down in a wrestling ring - that's exactly what this creative duo has cooked up. The book features a cast of classic and lesser-known princesses battling it out, with the Swan Princess serving as the ultimate villain. Little Red Riding Hood even gets her moment to shine as the towel girl! The inspiration came from Phaea playing with her daughter and creating wrestling moves with princess dolls. She dove deep into professional wrestling, particularly All Elite Wrestling (AEW), to capture the perfect blend of athleticism and storytelling. Jen Hill brought the concept to life with incredibly detailed illustrations packed with hidden fairy tale characters that kids will love discovering. What makes this book special is how it empowers classic princess characters, turning them from damsels in distress into powerful athletes. It's a hilarious way to show kids that princesses can be strong, funny, and totally unexpected. The book also subtly teaches important lessons about not underestimating yourself or others. Parents and kids will love exploring the wild illustrations together, finding new details with each read. The book promises laugh-out-loud moments and plenty of opportunities for imaginative play. Who knows? Your kids might start creating their own wrestling princess characters after reading! "Princess Battle Royale" hits bookstores on August 19th and is perfect for families looking for a unique, energetic, and utterly ridiculous storytime experience. Get ready to body slam boring princess stories and embrace the most entertaining children's book of the year! We also chat with Leslea Wahl who is celebrating her new middle-grade novel "A Summer to Treasure," a heartwarming story about a family road trip through the southwestern United States. The book follows three teens, their parents, and grandmother on a journey that explores family relationships, faith, and personal discovery. Inspired by her own family travels, Wahl weaves in elements of Catholic faith and intergenerational understanding, creating opportunities for meaningful conversations about family history, belief, and personal growth. Set against the backdrop of stunning national parks like the Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon, the novel delves into themes of technology's impact on family connections and the importance of sharing untold family stories, all while offering a fun and engaging narrative that encourages readers to look beyond surface-level relationships and appreciate the depth of family bonds. When Drew Petersen ran the Leadville 100 in 2022, he had a mantra written on each hand: “Feel It All” and “Celebrate.” The first one became the title of his new documentary. Feel It All chronicles Drew's journey from suicidal depression to finding purpose and strength by running the iconic ultramarathon. Drew has already saved lives by sharing part of his story in Ups and Downs. With the release of Feel It All, he hopes to help even more people, and to elevate the conversation around mental health and suicide.
