Last Wednesday marked the first time that Iain MacLeod was not listed as Corrie's producer since he took over the reins from Kate Oates in late 2018. With the episodes going forward now bearing wife Verity's name, soon to be replaced by that of incoming producer Kate Brooks, Iain's time at the top on Corrie is finally at an end. Well, unless you count his promotion to Executive Producer, but that's another story... For this week's bonus podcast, we reflect on the five and a half years that Iain was in charge of steering the Good Ship Corrie, chatting about the highs and lows when it comes to stories, characters and general production. How will his time as producer be remembered? What are some hallmarks of the MacLeod era? What were his biggest hits and most disappointing misses? We discuss all this and more in this bumper of a bonus podcast!

Every time I take a walk and re-enter, it smells like a Christmas tree lot. Making me insanely happy.  Hiking with Megg, Oisin and Hattie! Quote of the Week Author and speaker Jim Rohn on the best response to the disappointments of life:  “Let’s face it … people and events are going to continue to both hurt and disappoint you. Among the people will be those you most love, as well as those you least know. Seldom is it their intent to purposely hurt you, but rather, a variety of situations mostly beyond your control will cause them to act, speak, or think in ways which can have an adverse effect upon you, your present feelings and emotions, and the way your life upholds. It has been this way through six thousand years of recorded history, and your hurt or grief is not the first time a human has been deeply hurt by the inappropriate actions of another.  The only way to avoid being touched by life––the good as well as the bad––is to withdraw from society, and even then you will disappoint yourself, and your imagining about what is going on out there will haunt you and hurt you. Knowing this, there is but one solution that will support you when people and events hurt you, and that is to learn to work harder on your personal growth than anything else. Since you cannot control the weather, or the traffic, or the one you love, or your neighbors, or your boss, then you must learn to control you … the one whose response to the difficulties of life really counts.” Thanks for tuning in! It's been a while since we've profiled a current character, but this week it's Daniel Osbourne's time in the spotlight. After making a few appearances as a young boy in the 90s and 2000s, Daniel returned in 2016 as part of producer Kate Oates' drive to reinvigorate the Barlow family, and she certainly succeeded! We run down everything that Daniel's been up to in the past four years, with plenty of praise for who we believe is one of the show's strongest actors at the moment, Rob Mallard.

The domestic abuse story in EastEnders comes to a tragic end tonight. Chantelle is killed by her husband, Gray. We speak to the Head of Continuing Drama at BBC Studios, Kate Oates, and Sarah Davidge from Woman’s Aid, about how the storyline reflects the sharp rise in domestic violence during lockdown. Are you happy being naked in front of your children? Or does it make you feel uncomfortable? We talk to the illustrator Rosie Haine who’s created a children’s book called “It Isn’t Rude to be Nude”. It's full of naked bodies of all shapes and sizes. We also hear from psychologist Dr Keon West from Goldsmiths in London whose research suggests nudity might help with body image and self-esteem. A new film called Rocks focuses on a teenage schoolgirl and her group of loyal friends. One day Rocks' mother leaves and she’s left to care for herself and her seven year old brother. The story was developed in workshops with teenage girls and the cast is largely made up of non-professional actors. The film has received rave reviews on the international festival circuit. Two of the lead characters Bukky Bakray and Kosar Ali plus the director, Sarah Gavron, talk to us about the film and what it says about empowerment, banter and female friendship. The sale of wool has recently gone up but behind the scenes it's not all rosy. Since the pandemic hit, the price farmers get for their fleeces has dropped by nearly 50%, with some saying the situation's so bad they actually lose money when selling it. We talk to knitting designer and wool producer, Susan Crawford and to Minette Batters, the President of the National Union of Farmers.

On our latest podcast, we break down our thoughts on the excellent episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 27th April and the 1st May (Episodes #10,054 - 10,056). This week, Iain MacLeod finally found the memo that Kate Oates left him when he took over as producer: if you want people talking about Corrie, sometimes you've just got to go dark. For us, this week's episodes, in which we saw the climax of Yasmeen's long-running torment at the hands of evil Geoff, were some of the most adrenaline-inducing we've watched in a good long while, with a level of intensity not seen since the height of the Pat Phelan drama. Hats of to Shelley King, Ian Bartholomew and everyone behind the scenes for putting together some truly terrific telly. Oh yeah, and some stuff happened with Asha, Gary and Ken too. Not a whole lot in the way of news this week, but we cobble together a few headlines into a brief Kabin segment next, and we finish off the podcast with some listener feedback, including some of your immediate reactions to Friday's climactic cliffanger. On our latest podcast, we have a good old natter about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 20th and the 24th January. Love it or hate it (and if you know us, you'll have a good idea what side we're on!), the Jade story took centre stage this week, in scenes that featured a runaway child, a vicious chopping board attack, and incredible jumps of logic (Paradise Lost = Hope's in the loft, anyone?) - this one certainly feels like it's building to a big climax! Also this week, the welcome return of Charlie, Tim's Vegas wife, and the genius move to have her working alongside Jenny in the Rovers; plus we say goodbye for now to Bernie, Shona and Max. Up next on the podcast, our third and final part of the review of the decade, focusing on Kate Oates' controversial era at the show's helm. That's followed by a discussion of Corrie reportedly allowing its stars to endorse products on social media in The Kabin, and we round things off with a few listener emails in the feedback section. Our latest podcast covers the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK betweeen the 17th and the 21st September. There's double trouble for Imran this week after Toyah and Leanne discover they've both been getting into the brief's briefs. Meanwhile, Evelyn causes trouble at the Rovers quiz, Sal gets put in a cell and a suspicious Trace is on Hannah's case. After Street Talk, we've got part two of our look back on Kate Oates' time at the top on Corrie, where we take a change of pace from all of last week's positivity and have a good old moan about some of the less successful elements brought in by the departing producer. With it being a bit of a slow news week, we give the usual Kabin section a miss, and finish things off with some listener feedback, included a a first-time voice message from a long-time, like-minded listener. On our latest podcast, we discuss the episodes of Coronation Street broadcast in the UK between the 10th and the 14th September. Ever since the rumours of Jim returning to the show with a grown-up dead baby Katie in tow first hit the Internet, many Corrie fans have been insensed about the prospect of such a grubby rewriting of one of the McDonalds' finest early moments. This week, we finally got to see it begin to play out on screen, and despite it turning out to be more of a con than a retcon, it seems that for many viewers, the story's still not exactly going down well. This episode, we weigh in with our thoughts on this, as well as our impressions of Evelyn Plummer, the Battersbeeb love triangle, Ryan and Ali's jolly caperings, and the downright bizarre football app story. After Street Talk, we have the first part of our Kate Oates retrospective, where we focus on what we see as the positive aspects of her tenure as producer. From our favourite characters and storylines to her hallmarks such as keeping certain big twists hidden before broadcast, we reminise about everything great about Kate. In The Kabin, we celebrate Ryan Thomas winning Celebrity Big Brother and Corrie's victory at the TV Choice Awards, then we round off the show with some feedback. On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street broadcast in the UK between the 3rd and the 7th September. Now, we don't know whether it was our reaction to the shocking revelation about Tyrone's parentage, our debate about whether Josh should be redeemed, or just Gemma's alcohol-fuelled ramblings after downing a drink for every ticked off square on our Jim McDonald bingo card, but it turned into a bit of a bumper length Street Talk section this week, meaning our planned Kate Oates retrospective has had to be pushed back to a later date - but it's definitely coming soon! In The Kabin, we share our reactions to the Corrie DNA Secrets show from Wednesday night, then following Sophie's latest love interest, tackle the question of age gaps between partners in the listener feedback section. On our latest podcast, we have a good old chat about the episodes of Corrie broadcast in the UK between the 25th and the 29th June. It was one of those weeks that had a load of interweaving storylines, what with Simon getting up to no good in both the Rovers and Flora story, and Steve and Tracy's relationship connecting up with both Daniel and Abi's stuff. That does make Street Talk a bit of a minefield, but we manage to make it through to the other side in a relatively organised fashion at least. That's followed by our annual 'Let's see how Corrie's done in the first half of the year' discussion, where we weigh up the highs and lows of Kate Oates' final few months as producer. In the Kabin, there's congratulations in order for new mum Helen Flanagan, and we share who has and hasn't made it onto the shortlist of the TV Choice Awards (no Connor, Charlie or Sally? They wuz robbed!). We finish off the episode with some of your emails, tweets, Facebook posts and a quick voicemail response to one of last week's messages in our feedback section. In our latest episode of the podcast, we talk about the events on the cobbles between the 7th and the 11th May in the UK. Well, Kate Oates has said one of her aims with Aidan's suicide storyline was to get people to talk about the issue, and by 'eck, did it work on us! After kicking things off with the usual Corrie history quiz, we go on to spend nearly three hours dissecting what has been one of the show's most important weeks ever. The incredible performances, the important messages, the masterful direction, the perfectly interweaving storylines... This is a week of Corrie that's affected so many people, and we just hope we've done it justice with our critique. After Street Talk, we take a very brief break from discussing the week's episodes to see what's been going on in the news, then we're back to Aidan again for the feedback section, where we read out, and listen to, some of our listeners' thoughts on the week. Coronation Street has just revealed that the character, Aidan Connor, will take his own life next week. Over the years soaps generally have not shied away from dealing with such controversial issues but do they always get it right when including them? Kate Oates, the producer of Coronation Street, and Emma Bullimore, the television and film critic, discuss this type of storyline. The award- winning American stand-up comedian and actress Amy Schumer stars in a new film called "I Feel Pretty". Film and TV critic, Emma Bullimore, discusses the film and the appeal of Amy Schumer.A lost novel by Romanian author Mircea Eliade was rediscovered in an attic and has just been published in English for the first time. After Street Talk, we move straight onto The Kabin as there's huge news this week: Kate Oates has announced she's leaving as producer! On the latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 10th and the 15th September. Another excellent week on the cobbles this week, with Andy's near escape proving to be a particular highlight for us. Looking around online, though, it seems like there are a lot of viewers who this didn't go down well with, so we do our best to justify our love of this (admittedly somewhat far-fetched) story! Then, of course, we have all the build up to the big double wedding next week. Eva's back and ramping up the revenge on the Connors, and there's tragedy for Rita as she collapses during the hen do. Also this week, we learn about Seb's home life, and Yasmeen becomes so desperate for a bit more screen time that she takes a leaf out of Phelan's book and becomes a hostage taker. After Street Talk, we do a quick character profile of Erica - it's about time we got round to it! - then find out what Kate Oates has got to say about the new set expansion in the news section. Finally, we received so may emails this week that Gemma had to bust out her professional editing skillz to stop the feedback segment from lasting quite so long, but if you stay to right to the very end of the podcast, we do have a very short bit of bonus material - you'll have to wait and see for yourselves what it is, but it sure made us laugh!

We may all be in denial about it, but it's the end of an era this week as Liz and Steve sign the Rovers over to new owners Peter and Toyah. Kate Oates had better have some good stories up her sleeves for this one otherwise we're starting a protest group to get the McDonalds back behind the bar where they belong! Also on Corrie this week, Neil starts to lose his cool after Bethany finally reveals the truth to Craig about his involvement in Nathan's sex ring, and Erica books a hotel room for a night of saucy fun with Kevin - will he give into temptation? After Street Talk, we do a quick character profile of Aidan Connor, before sharing our thoughts about the rumours of Joanna Lumley wanting a return to the cobbles in The Kabin. We then round things off with some more listener feedback.

This episode includes the following segments: On the Porch, Yarn Lover at Large, Ever-expanding Skill Set, Off the Shelf, And Sew Forth. This week has been a busy one, with two new projects under way, a lot of sewing, canning with Mom, and getting out my rusty arithmetic for a Math for Hats class with Kate Oates at Mountain Knits and Pearls.  Meanwhile, I'm carefully tending five indigo plants in anticipation of my September Sheep to Shawl class. I'll talk a bit about the adventurous Blue and Indigo chapters of Color by Victoria Finlay.
