Being a “fire-fighter” works — until it doesn't. If you're just tackling reds right in front of you, you're thinking in the short-term, and you're not improving as you go. But there's a better way. And it's called working on capability. It makes your business easier, quicker, faster, and generates bigger, proven, and repeatable results for your business. And in today's episode, I reveal how capability can help scale your business. Listen now! Show Highlights Include: Why the “Get The Job Done” mentality materializes in 2 harmful trade-offs for your business (2:54) How focusing on your capacity—and not your capability—creates unpredictable and unrepeatable results (5:44) The simple way to manage a product recall with “capability building” (6:35) Why “KMR” could sabotage your company culture, training, and knowledge (there's even insurance products for “KMR”) (10:17) How to never rely on on a single, herculean department pulling long hours to get the job done again (11:58) Why measuring productivity by how many hours your employees worked doesn't guarantee your M&A integration is going to work (13:44) For more about Joe Mosher, go here: https://moshercg.com/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/joemosher/

Today Matilda and I are joined by the multi-talented Reggie Watkins, host of the podcast "I'm Probably Right," coach and so much more! Here's what you need to know about Reggie: Reggie Watkins was born and raised in San Jose, CA, and has been passionate about acting from the very start. He even performed in the Kids Skits Theater Company in Denver, CO, which gave him a solid foundation. Reggie later went on to play collegiate football as a wide receiver until a torn ACL ended his career at 21. No longer able to pursue that path, he moved to Los Angeles and fully committed to acting. Reggie's first "Hollywood" job was as a doorman at The World Famous Comedy Store, where he earned his stripes performing stand up with the likes of Dave Chappelle and Dane Cook. His first TV jobs were on the ABC Family series "Lincoln Heights," co-starring opposite the late Chadwick Boseman, and a commercial for Bud Light. Since then, Reggie has booked a stream of high-profile projects, including recurring roles on Amazon's critically acclaimed series "Bosch," NBC's smash hit "This Is Us," and a guest starring role on ABC's "The Rookie." Nov. 13th 2020 Reggie will appear as Sgt. Lawrence Sims in Activision's latest blockbuster, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Reggie also hosted his own sports podcast "Talkin Sports with The Franchise" and currently can be found on the Digital Podcast Network show, "Brothas on Football," providing an in-depth breakdown of the game.Reggie is a social activist as well. Inspired to take action during the civil unrest surrounding the killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, Reggie co-founded 'The Valley of Change,' a non-profit organization located in the San Fernando Valley, focused on community outreach and peaceful protests for real, systemic change. Reggie is represented theatrically by BRS-Gage, commercially by KMR, voice-over by Dean Panaro Talent and managed by Aligned Talent Group. Thank you for listening! In S3 E 3 I am delighted to welcome Lincoln Quilliam to the podcast. Lincoln is a Civil Engineer and Project Manager with a passion for adventure, travel and innovation. He is the Founder and Race director of the Kunyani Mountain Run, Run director at the Kunyani Trail Series, Owner of Trail Ventures and Vice President at the Tasmanian Trail Running Association. He is a recipient of a Winston Churchill Fellowship Tasmania and a previous graduate of the Tasmanian Leaders I- Lead programme. In this conversation we discuss his leadership journey and various roles in the Tasmanian trail running community. Lincoln speaks about his upcoming inaugural event the Kunyani Mountain Run in Hobart. He tells us about the journey of KMR from its inception to the present date and I am interested to how and why he has succeeded where others have stumbled. He reflects on his professional skill set and training and experience to date, which have assisted in bringing a team of local stakeholders and dedicated volunteers, including, fellow running enthusiasts, together to make this event happen. In particular I am also keen to explore his passion and deep respect for his birth city and local land and the various ways he has helped to cultivate community and connection to the trails. Lincoln has been awarded a Churchill Fellowship and will finally venture overseas in the second half of 2022, after pandemic-related travel setbacks, to study the global trail running scene in more depth. He hopes to return with new insights to help progress his vision for his local trail community in Tasmania. I throughly enjoyed this conversation and an opportunity to speak about my beloved trail running. Lincoln could easily lead a public health campaign promoting the physical, mental and social benefits of getting out walking and running in natural settings with a group of fellow humans. There are many pearls and we revisit themes of purpose, leadership, and the importance of connection to people and place. Merhabalar… Mimi Dietderich is Foster Care Coordinator for the East Bay SPCA in Oakland and Dublin, California. Mimi shares her story and covers a wide range of topics, including fostering, some interesting animal facts, and compassion fatigue. She also shares two touching stories about Miso and Frankie. Resources https://www.eastbayspca.org/ https://www.facebook.com/EBSPCA/?fref=ts https://www.instagram.com/eastbayspca/ http://www.oaklandzoo.org/ http://lindsaywildlife.org/ - an organization oriented around wildlife health and education SPCA SPCA stands for Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. SPCA's in general are independent organizations. The first one was founded in the early 1800's in England. What requirements do you need to foster? 1. Patience! A new place can be stressful for an animal. Each animal is unique with its own behavior and character. 2. A place to live 3. Time. Be available for the pets. Dogs in general need more time than cats due to the need to go outside. Why is fostering so important? Fostering an animal, even for a couple weeks, opens up a space in a shelter to hold another dog, cat, or other pet. The animal(s) you foster will hopefully get adopted by a permanent or forever family. There are so many reasons animals benefit from fostering which include: 1. letting puppies and kittens grow old enough for spay / neuter 2. giving an injured or sick animal time to heal 3. socialization Some other foster-related advice 1. The first foster is always the hardest, since saying goodbye and returning the animal can be very difficult emotionally. 2. After the first foster, it is a little easier to say goodbye and prepare for the next one. 3. Plenty of people do end up adopting a foster. It even has an endearing term, "foster fail," or "foster failure." Education Educate your children on animals, including behavior and care, through your local shelter. Some offer day camp programs! Compassion Fatigue Compassion fatigue is a term for burnout. Compassion fatigue can impact anyone involved with "caring" work such as animal rescue. Ways to cope with compassion fatigue 1. Take time for yourself. 2. Follow your outside interests that do not involve as many caring activities. 3. Live healthy. Avoid junk food, alcohol, and drugs. Shopping and gambling are other activities to monitor so they don't get out of control. 4. Even with that, it can still be overwhelming, recognize that you can't fix every situation and meet every need. Kittens and Puppies When the number of kittens spikes, it's called Kitten Season. Depending on where you live, it often starts in the Spring, and usually starts to slow down around the end of Summer. If you find a litter of kittens in your neighborhood, don't assume they were abandoned by their mother. She may have simply gone away to find food. KMR and Esbilac are brands of kitten and puppy meal replacements. For very young cats and dogs. Thanks again to Mimi Dietderich! All of Pawprint's music is composed by Luke Gartner-Brereton.
