Herlinda Heras in Maui reporting on the Kokua Project. Herlinda Heras is calling from Maui, to talk about the Kokua Project with Steve Jaxon on Brew Ha Ha today. Bryan Rengel of Old Caz Beer is also with us. Over here is the podcast episode of that entire show. Here is just the portion where Herlinda speaks to us from the Maui Brewing Company, looking at the ocean. She is there for her birthday and to see breweries that are participating in the Kokua relief beer project, which is raising money for Maui fire relief. Steve and Bryan Co-founder of Old Caz Beer Bryan Rengel joins Steve Jaxon and Herlinda Heras in the studio on Brew Ha Ha today. Bryan was on Brew Ha Ha last August on this episode, and his partner Tom Edwards was a guest on this other episode from March 31, 2022. The first beer tasted today is called Chismosa Clara, their take on a Mexican Lager. There is an amber ale version. This is a lighter one, made to be like Modelo Especial. They are located in Rohnert Park which is growing and gaining popularity. A hazy IPA is the next tasting, called Early Sunset. It's an example of a creative process of starting with a special recipe that they make in kegs only, to see if it becomes popular. If it does, they will make a label and produce it. This is how they select which beers to produce more of. Old Caz is opening a new location in SOCO Village, right in the middle of the square. It is under construction now and their goal is to use the old taproom only for special events and to move the public tasting to the new place. They have a specially designed concrete pad for heavy food trucks to park. Russian River Brewing Co. is open in Santa Rosa on 4th St. and in Windsor location. Visit their website for up-to-date hours, menus, beers and more. Herlinda Heras is calling in from Maui. She is sitting at Maui Brewing Company, looking at the ocean. Just like bees go to flowers for the nectar, disciples go to masters for their teachings. But not always they are ready to listen and open to receive. In an introduction to the world of Zen and to illustrate how a disciple should listen, Vasant Swaha tells the story of Kokua, the first Japanese master to study Zen in China. He also shares a little of his own experience after enlightenment and the unique ways masters such as Buddha, Meher Baba, Osho, Ramana Maharshi, and others found to convey their teachings and challenge people to get out of their sleep and deal with a great dilemma of human life.Vasant Swaha is an enlightened Master sharing his love, joy, and wisdom in retreats. This is an excerpt from a Satsang on the 18th of July, 2023, during the Summer Retreat in Dharma Mountain, Norway. For more information visit www.vasantswaha.net.

UM Australia is the focus of this episode. I have a chat with race director, Jeff Morris, to preview a few of the 45 athletes who are toeing the line in Noosa this weekend. Like most 515 races, the line up includes some big names with lofty goals like Richard Thompson and his sub 20 challenge, and some people who are just challenging themselves to complete the distance. We discuss the variety of situations that bring people to take on a 515 event..My athlete in profile is New Zealand's Simon Cochrane. Simon is a pro triathlete with 37 Ironmans on his resume but is taking on the 515 distance for the first time. He is the owner of Athletic Peak, a coaching and conditioning business which focuses on supporting athletes along their endurance journey. Building to the lead up of UM Australia, Simon has recently topped the podium in a couple of ultra runs including winning “the claw”, a feat not previously attained at the Blue Lake 24 hour Challenge.Resources mentioned in this episode:UM AustraliaUltra 355 CozumelUltra 355 TexasIM CairnsIM CanadaIM Western AustraliaBasque CountryUltraman FloridaUltraman ArizonaTaupo 100 km UltraBlue Lake 24hr ChallengeTarawera 100 mile UltraIM New ZealandWynRepublicIM JapanBadwaterMarathon Des SablesNegative Split CarbonAthletic PeakShout outs and mentions in this episode:Tony HortonJudith HudsonJeremy BrownSteve KingHayden LyonsErica LumbRikki AndersonDee FullerKylie JonesKarren SewellThomas DadeAndrew TroutShaun McCarthyBenat OliveiraMathew ThompsonShane KentSimon CochraneCarl ReadRichard ThompsonJason Shields Troy GelchSteve LedgerJames ScanlanShaun PeroNathan StewartShane DuffyTim FranklinMatt KerrLuke McKenzieBeth McKenzieLarissa Cochrane___________________________________________________________Show Contributors:Host : Larry Ryan Contributing Raconteur : Steve KingAnnouncer : Mary Jo DionneProduction : 5Five EnterprisesMusic : Run by 331___________________________________________________________For show notes and past guests, please visit the Podcast Website: https://515theultrapodcast.buzzsprout.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/515TheUltraPodcastInsta : 515theultrapodcastEmail : 515Ultraman@gmail.com

It has been 3 long years since the Ohana has had the opportunity to have a family reunion on the big island at the Ultraman World Championships. Sheryl and Dave Cobb are happy to be hosting 40 athletes from 15 countries at this race once again. Sheryl gives us the roster of athletes and Steve King joins us to share his insights and statistical knowledge of a field that he says may be the strongest that he has seen compete at a single race. There are plenty of stories to be played out between those who are there to complete and those who are there to compete -- especially in the women's field. These include, an athlete looking to be the oldest woman to finish an Ultraman event at age 67, an athlete looking to win her 5th World Championship at 5 different distances, an athlete who is competing in their 20th consecutive World Championship, and an athlete looking to go sub 20 hours.Resources mentioned in this episode:Ultraman World Championships Ironman World Championships Ironman 70.3 World ChampionshipsUltraMx 515 UltraMx 515 Non-StopEpic 5Ultraman FloridaUltraman CanadaEpic DecaChallenged Athletes FoundationBadwater 135Ultra Tri Sweden 615UB 515Israman Ultra Israel Shout outs and mentions in this episode:Sheryl Cobb / Dave Cobb (S2E6)Steve King (S1E1 E2 E3)Van Sanchez (S1E6) (S3E9)Diane Anderson (Athlete)Dan JensenYonnatan Alejandro Rivas Venegas (Athlete)Carlos GalvisJD Tremblay (Athlete)Steven Keller (Athlete) (S2E10) Richard Thompson (Athlete)Kiel Omerod (Athlete)Pheng Lor (Athlete)Ryan Rinear (Athlete)Barry Berg (Athlete) (S1E9) Rob Gray (Athlete)Asparuh Borisov (Athlete)Sebastien Lefebvre (Athlete)Brad Sawa (S1E10)Jeremy Couch (Athlete)Rodrigo Vasconcellos (Athlete)Acyr da Luz (Athlete)Jon Greyell (Athlete)Randy Latza (Athlete)Shane Mascarin (Athlete) (S2E4)Eiko Hibino (S1E5)Makoto Hoshino (S1E2)Bob Babbitt - BabbittvilleHeidi BabbittJen McVeay (S2E8)Shane Duffy (Athlete)Miguel Madrid Lopez (Athlete)Ariel Gorga (Athlete)Ismael FrancoAlessandro Medeiros (Athlete)Armando Armellini (Athlete)Olov Berg (Athlete) Juan Craveri (Athlete) (S1E5)Luis Hernando De Arriba (Athlete)Michael Morrissey (Athlete)Brian Fredley (Athlete)Sarah McLartyGary Wang (Athlete) (S2E6)Howie Nordström (Athlete)Adam Grant (Athlete)Antonina Reznikov (Athlete) Leanda Cave (Athlete) (S1E8)Amy Robitaille (S3E6)Jamie Harris (Athlete) (S2E11)Karen Woodward (Athlete)Meredith Terranova (Athlete)Dede Griesbauer (Athlete)Amber MonforteTara Norton (Athlete)Shannon Callies (Athlete)Fiona Siemelink (Athlete)Hans Siemelink Wendy Minor Jane Bockus (S1E4) Show Contributors:Host : Larry Ryan Contributing Raconteur : Steve KingAnnouncer : Mary Jo DionneProduction : 5Five EnterprisesMusic : Run by 331For show notes and past guests, please visit the Podcast Website: https://515theultrapodcast.buzzsprout.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/515TheUltraPodcastInsta : 515theultrapodcastEmail : 515Ultraman@gmail.com

A powerful live talk with Brandon Maka'awa'awa, the Vice President of the independent Nation of Hawaii. Brandon came to visit our land for a few days and we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to meet him and experience his wisdom. In this live discussion, we explore the Indigenous Nation Sovereignty of Hawai and the Hawaiian people by exploring the consequences of colonialism on the culture and ecology of the island. In this powerful discussion with Brandon Maka'awa'awa we aim to better understand the complexities and opportunities of sovereignty restoration and the unique project of Pu'uhonua O Waimanalo. What can we learn from this particular project for the general goal of restoring Native sovereignty, how to navigate the complexity of the capitalistic and political systems, and how this ecological, social, and political project can be a frame for the general modeling of different ways to grow together in the midst of climate collapse and the restoration of social & economical justice. Brandon Maka'awa'awa is the Vice President of the independent Nation of Hawaii. He assists President Dennis Bumpy Kanahele in the day-to-day operations of Pu'uhonua O Waimanalo, the Nation's sovereign land base in which they are restoring the ancient and modern technology-enabled Ahupua'a ecosystem. Brandon also leads the Nation of Hawaii's delegation to the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, where he has given many interventions on Hawaiian National Sovereignty, peaceful coexistence, reconciliation, indigenous economic development, and innovation. Brandon is also President of Na Po'e Kokua, a non-profit organization that advocates for the development of more affordable housing options for Hawaiians. Brandon advocates on behalf of the Nation of Hawai'i at all levels of government on different issues impacting Hawaiians and their rights.,

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” - Jesus Tired? Worn down? Exhausted? Feeling frenetic, weary, or burdened? Come. Learn. Discover. Why? Perhaps the exhaustion we feel is not because of our pace or our calendars. Perhaps it is because we have not tended our souls, and we have adopted teachings and interpretations that burden, rather than enliven. So come. The faith and spirituality of Jesus invites us, beckons us, yearns for us to discover his rest. The song at the end is an original by our worship leader and friend, Dave Matsumura of Kokua.
