Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) Director A.J. Schall discussed their charge, coordinating the State’s efforts to prepare, respond and recover from emergencies, including hurricanes, flooding, chemical spills or accidents. Preparing involves us and he advises us make a plan, have a kit ready for evacuation or sheltering in place, have an emergency contact list and a meeting point, download their apps and have a charger ready. He discussed the importance of insurance and the economic impact of disasters on the community. To help us get ready, DEMA is hosting their 19th Annual Family Preparedness Day Saturday, September 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Brecknock County Park, 80 Old Camden Road in Camden, Delaware. This FREE event features fun, family-friendly educational activities, and safety demonstrations in observance of National Preparedness Month. Food, music, raffles and photo opportunities with firetrucks and helicopters and with beloved safety mascots and K-9 service dogs round out the fun. The event and onsite parking are free to the public, and the first 500 people to complete an activity challenge can earn a free treat from Kona Ice. It’s rain or shine. The event will feature more than 40 public safety agencies, nonprofits, and utilities that provide adults and children of all ages a chance to interact with and learn from first responders and safety experts in a fun, family-friendly environment. There will be Make-A-Kit activities to raise awareness of the importance of emergency kits and go bags, a car seat safety check sponsored by the Delaware Office of Highway Safety, Hands Only CPR presented by Kent County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Stop the Bleed classes from Bayhealth Healthcare and the Department of Safety and Homeland Security will feature an Impaired Driver Simulator. Weiter geht es mit der Geschichte des Sozialen Zentrums in Norderstedt das 2025 sein 30jähriges Bestehen feiert. Das Soziale Zentrum ist ein linkspolitisches kulturelles Zentrum. Zu der eigenen Geschichte gehört auch die des Schall&Rau(s)ch Festivals, welches von 1993-2011 als DIY Festival umsonst und draußen in Norderstedt organisiert wurde. Viele kleine und große Bänds aus Norderstedt und Umgebung, aber auch von weit entfernt spielten dort und im SZ auf. Im heiteren Studiogespräch erinnern sich ehemalige und heutige Aktivist:innen und Musiker:innen an Erlebtes. Auch das Jugendkulturcafe kurz JuKuCa wird erwähnt, was ebenfalls, als städtisches Jugendzentrum eine Wiege für viele Bänds war und dem Häuserplenum, aus dem das SZ hervor ging ein Zuhause bot.

Das Thema Zeit hat die Menschen schon immer fasziniert. Es gibt unzählige Geschichten über Zeitmaschinen oder Experimente, die den Menschen unsterblich machen sollen. Nichts lässt den Menschen so eindeutig seine Begrenzung spüren, wie die Zeit: Er hat sie nicht unter seiner Kontrolle und wird sie nie gänzlich verstehen können. Was wäre, würde der Mensch seine Begrenzung akzeptieren, aushalten, dass er nicht alles versteht und vertrauensvoll Gott Gott sein lassen? Fifty-four percent of incarcerated people in the United States have mental illness. Eighty-five percent of the prison population have an active substance use disorder or were incarcerated because of drugs. Jeremy Schall is one of these individuals. Coming from a family history with addiction and having his first psychiatric hospitalization at age seven, his name was written all over the prison walls. What happened to liberate Jeremy from his own mental prison while he was stuck for four hours in a prison shower filled with black mold? How did Jeremy turn his life around with so many cards stacked against him? Why didn't he go down the road of no return like so many others who end up never leaving prison? Market growth breeds commercialization activity. This was an idiom I created many years ago to describe the reactive nature of the functional CPG industry. And it would certainly describe what has played out within the hydration and energy categories over the last 5-7 years. These functional CPG segments have both seen an explosion in market growth that drove rapid experimentation and development within an ever-expanding number of usage occasions. Additionally, consider that both the hydration and energy categories sit squarely within my “divine triad of CPG” of having strong gross margins, high frequency of use, and passionate brand communities. So, it's hard to not be enthralled by everything…which might be partly why Market Insights Director at SPINS, Scott Dicker, and I regularly feature them in our quarterly functional CPG categorical deep dives. Beyond providing some recent categorical retail sales data snippets, we describe several driving forces impacting comparative results...including the growing “beverage identity crisis” that stems from consumers more regularly swapping between ready-to-drink and ready-to-mix form factors. But don't worry…that's not the only time we reference how the supplement industry is altering the strategic plans at large incumbent beverage brands. In fact, Scott and I cover some of those trending hydration and energy category storylines that are hidden below the “Big 2” market share leaders. Additionally, we explain why these “incubated within the supplement industry” brands can scale faster than any other time in business history.
