How you choose the technologies you use, how you consume it, how do you kind of make it available to a broader subset of people so that they can enjoy the benefits that technology brings, those are all things under our control.”“As technology leaders, we're going to have to be a lot more conscious about the decisions we make as to where you use technology and how you do that. I think the sustainability framework we've been talking about gives you a much better, it's not that you're not going to make mistakes, but, it will be, it'll kind of weed out some of the really bad ideas very quickly”.---------Timestamps:(00:50) Sustainability beyond the “green aspect” (02:01) The three “E's” of sustainability (04:29) Applying the three E's to AI (06:46) Ethical and “green” use of AI (09:40) AI to augment humans (18:00) The evolution of the definition of sustainability (23:07) The progression of technology and human knowledge (27:55) We broke it, and we can fix it (31:32) Will AI reach everyone equally? The ISRO human space program began as the Indian Human spaceflight programme in 2007. This began the development of technology needed to launch crewed orbital spacecraft into low earth orbit. In 2018, the government approved a further $1.5bn for a 7 day crewed flight. Now known as the Gaganyaan programme, the programme aims to send two unmanned missions and one manned flight mission into low earth orbit by 2023. PM Modi launched the Indian Space Association (ISpA) in late 2021 as a way to contribute towards the accelerated development of India's space industry. Speaking on the occasion, the PM said that this undertaking will give the India space sector "new wings". It removes the restrictions on space access, previously only given to ISRO and a select few institutions. ISpA aspires to be the collective voice of the Indian Space industry. In the light of these advancements and India's new found enthusiasm for the space race, we decided to dive deep into Indian space exploration. To shed some light on this exhaustive subject, we invited guests Aloke Kumar and Koushik Vishwanathan. Aloke Kumar is the Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore. He has also worked in many teams exploring applications of science to make space exploration easier. Koushik Vishwanathan is also an assistant professor at IISc, with an interest in advanced manufacturing and finishing processes. He has worked with Aloke on many of his projects regarding space exploration.

The last year has been a trying time for everyone. Hardest hit have been prisoners who have seen increasing infections of the covid-19 virus brought in by guards who live off site or other prisoners transferred in from other institutions, prisoners who don't have the luxury of free movement during the incessant lockdowns their wardens employed as a band-aid measure to limit transmission, prisoners who don't have effective healthcare in non-pandemic times and who across the board have had limited to no access to personal protective equipment. In many cases, incarcerated people have had their lives put on hold, the hard-fought programs they rely on to earn earlier releases paused during this emergency situation, access to the outdoor for exercise and socializing with others in their institutions unavailable because of under-staffing or concerns of spread. This sort of situation, hearing about the spread and deaths on the outside and being unable to defend yourself or loved ones, undoubtedly has a lasting impact on our psyches. For this hour, I spoke with a member of the Perilous Chronicle about their report “First 90 Days of Prisoner Resistance to COVID-19” concerning the spike in measured prisoner resistance in the forms of work and hunger strikes, fights with guards, riots and escapes from facilities ranging from county jails, state prisons, ICE detention facilities and federal prisons across the so-called US and so-called Canada. The report begins coverage of events on March 17, 2020, when protests occurred at facilities on either coast naming concerns of the approaching pandemic as impetus. Our guest speaks about the data they've been able to gather, their approach and specific incidents. The report, published November 12, 2020, will soon be followed with more information concerning the trend as it spread, including overlaps with the Rebellion for Black Lives of the summer of 2020. Transcription PDF (Unimposed) Zine (imposed PDF) You can find the report and more writings as well as how to support them or get involved at PerilousChronicle.Com. Their podcast is available there and wherever you get podcasts, they're active on twitter via @PerilousPrisons, can be emailed at info@perilouschronicle.com and they can be written at: Perilous P.O. Box 381 Tuscon, AZ 85702 Soon after this conversation was recorded, on February 6th 2021, prisoners at the St. Louis so-called Justice Center, aka The Workhouse, engaged in an uprising, taking over the fourth floor of the facility, flooding toilets, setting items on fire, busting out windows of the facility and waving banners. This was the 4th and 5th protest at The Workhouse since December and had escalated after mismanagement, lack of proper PPE, covid-19 screenings, warm clothing, access to recreation, price gouging, people awaiting trial in the postponed court hearings for months because they lacked money to pay the bail, filling meals and the lack of medical care of prisoners known to currently have the novel corona virus among other reasons that echo a lot of what our guest today talked about. Dr. Koushik Reddy is a physician working for the Department of Veteran's Affairs in Tampa, Florida. Although his story has its unique details, his overall journey to find lifestyle medicine and plant-based nutrition is like many others. He learned about how the human body works and trained in traditional western medicine techniques. He had an ‘Ah ha” moment and realized there must be another way to practice medicine. He stood on the shoulders of giants in the field and learned from the teachings of many physicians who were the early trailblazers. And now practices and teaches lifestyle medicine to everyone he encounters and is now truly helping people realize the healthy lives they were meant to live. I will include, in the show notes, an article Dr. Reddy penned which outlines the way he used to practice medicine and how that all changed. It's his whole story in 4 pages. The piece is entitled “I have a carrot and a stent, you pick”. This encompasses Dr. Reddy and his style of medicine so well because with what he knows now, he puts much of the responsibility of the patient's health back in their hands and helps them realize that the power was always in their hands, and in some cases, gives them a second chance at life. I can't say it any better than he can, so lets get right into this weeks conversation, on Episode #51, with Dr. Koushik Reddy. I'm very grateful for those of you who are listening who are Patrons, those of you have shared the podcast with your friends or on social media, or the 91 of you who have written a positive and honest review on iTunes. It means a lot, it gives me encouragement that I am doing something that has meaning in people's lives. This message is for everyone else. I'd love for you to be part of the team, part of this movement. If this podcast has made you smarter, healthier and more informed, or even if it's helped you avoid or reduce medications or a stent or other procedure, how much is that worth to you? If I have helped you, would you consider helping me further this message and my work? Never expected, but always appreciated. If you want to see what you can do to help, check out Patreon.com/IanCramerPodcast to find out about how you can help spread this message. We'll see you next episode. And until that time, keep eating more plants, stay curious, remain responsible and compassionate ambassadors to this movement and may you live to be 100 years old.
Technovation with Peter High (CIO, CTO, CDO, CXO Interviews)
340: In this interview, Peter High and Srini Koushik discuss World Class IT Principle One, People, Principle Two, Infrastructure, and Principle Four, IT and Business Partnership. Among the other topics they discuss include: An overview of Magellan’s business, including its two primary growth platforms: healthcare and pharmacy benefits management Magellan’s Massive Transformative Purpose of "Leading humanity to healthy, vibrant lives," and how that leads them to unconventional but extremely impactful offerings such as Magellan Complete Care, a first-of-its-kind benefits plan aimed at the seriously mentally ill in Florida, or managing specialty care How Srini leverages innovative organizational techniques and emerging technologies to compete with larger healthcare companies, a concept he calls Exponential IT. Some examples of this include leveraging cloud services instead of building solutions in-house, adopting platforms its employees were already familiar with such as Workplace by Facebook to reduce training needs and facilitate adoption, and building solutions for tomorrow’s technology like 5G, instead of yesterday’s technology How operating in a high-touch industry that requires the company to be empathetic and sensitive to the needs of its customers has shaped its approach to digital The unique perspective on technology that Srini has developed over his career, which includes both time at large companies like IBM, Hewlett Packard, Nationwide, as well as entrepreneurial experience as CEO of a startup

Dr. Koushik Reddy is not any ordinary interventional cardiologist, he would rather heal with a carrot than a stent. Dr. Reddy works for the James A. Dr. Reddy is full of life and one of our brightest physicians. He is an example we should all hope to strive for when caring for our patients. He is funny and you will enjoy this conversation. This song has this strange combination of indie singing on a hip hop beat, but I like it. It seems fitting then that Koushik's album "Out My Window" was published by Stones Throw, a record company known for its cutting edge hip hop production (see: Madlib, J Dilla)
