Angel comes back to the podcast and joins Brent & Dan to discuss these spin-offs from the Conjuring Cinematic Universe.
Welcome to another episode!! It's just Kevin and Andrew this week but that doesn't mean there isn't anything to cover! The episode kicks off with Kevin going over a couple of Paramount Plus offerings. First up is the latest Tyler Sheridan project, Tulsa King. It's a Stallone led project but it's off to a great start. Next up no the streamer is Picard season 3. It's only the first episode so Kevin tries to stay as spoiler free as possible, but does talk about the things that make this a very solid first episode. Finally he skips over to HBO and quickly talks about how Velma may not be THAT bad. Next up, the guys get into their Conjuring universe watch. First up is The Curse of La Llarona and suffice it to say, the guys pretty much agree with the world consensus: this movie is not very good. They follow that up with Annabelle Comes Home. This one divides the guys just a little, but it's definitely a better film than La Llarona. Next up is the big chunk of the episode, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Both guys saw it, so this gets spoiler heavy, so be warned! Unlike the critics of the world, the guys thoroughly enjoy this film and they have a lot to discuss and share. As the guys try to end the show, they suck themselves into a chat about what's coming in March, which leads to a discussion about the upcoming Flash movie. There's a lot of discussion about the impact of Ezra's behavior vs the appearance of Keaton's Batman. As always, thank you for watching! We appreciate all of the support we've been getting lately so thanks for sharing! Please keep it up and tell your friends to share it also! We'll be back again next week with a special guest and more Last of Us talk!

Scott has problems with a large child puppet with an adult consciousness calling a human child "Mom", Christopher is obsessed with how a nineteenth century medical quack describes his electroshock machine, and Hayleigh references the greased chutes of H. H. Holmes's infamous castle. Later, Scott found a modern story of La Llarona...at a ski resort?!We're back!

The Conjuring The Devil Made Me Do It, or as I call it “TCTDMMDI” is the 8th movie in the Conjuring Cinematic Universe, or as I call it “The CCU”, and the second direct sequel to the original The Conjuring, and the 5th film in the series since anyone gave a fuck. Follow him on Instagram @dgoebel00 https://youtu.be/h9Q4zZS2v1k Synopsis In this entry, Ed and Lorraine Warren are performing an exorcism on the young David Glatzel boy (Julian Hilliard), when oops, the demon is transferred over to Arne Cheyenne Johnson (Ruairi O'Connor) after he invites the demon to possess him instead. Everyone goes about their business like that didn't just happen, and then Arne commits homicide, because, you guessed it, the devil made him do it. The Warrens rush to investigate the evil origins of the possession to convince the rubes on the jury in time to save Arne from the death penalty. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It Poster Review of The Conjuring 3 I'm a little torn on how to review this one. It's right in line with the other Conjuring Movies, none of which are bad (in the main storyline), but none are particularly great to me. I was relieved to see that it wasn't all based within one spooky-ookie house, so that was nice. One of the things that gets annoying after a while is the repetitiveness of the setup of Lorraine being psychic and Ed being worried. The story is interesting enough. There is enough mystery and revelations over time that kept me engaged. The special effects and scares were a little lackluster. You've seen most of it before. Demon possessed children, evil rickety contortion, rotted corpse ghosts, etc. The new element that was the most interesting, that I wished they explored more of was the Satanic element, specifically playing into the 80's era satanic panic. It's a really interesting topic that would have been more interesting if they committed completely to it, rather than just using it as a story device. Surprisingly, the whole premise of legally defending Arne on the basis demonic possession, is barely touched on. If you are expecting a courtroom drama, you will be disappointed. That all being said, the movie as a whole is of a high enough quality to be grouped in with the first two Conjuring movies, which is a welcome relief after The Curse of La Llarona. Score 7/10 Buy The Whole Conjuring Collection on Blu-Rayor shop Amazon for your missing pieceBuy Now Where The Conjuring 3 Disappoints It really is unfortunate that they didn't pick a lane and either focus on the court case of Arne, or focus on the Satanic Panic elements. While I appreciate that they finally left the haunted houses behind, It would have been nice to see a stronger departure from The Conjuring formula. "One of the most intense incidents was when Ernie sat doing his schoolwork at the dining room table and he thought he saw movement from the side of the stove. He thought he saw a dark figure moving past him. A dark figure in the room with him. He soon caught the motion again out of the corner of his eye, and then, following it, he watched one of the pepper shakers from the top of the stove start to levitate before rapidly floating over and landing beside him. " Known as the Project Poltergeist, Dan's first tale is the first documented case of poltergeist activity taking place in one of American’s government housing projects. It’s been called the Project Poltergeist. The strange tale of a lot of paranormal activity following a young man, Ernie Rivers. Who is the poltergeist? Is it Ernie's Dad? Did he come back to take Ernie away? Keep your mirrors covered, if nothing else, when listening to this story. After getting spooped in story one, Dan takes up back to Japan to investigate multiple ghost sightings in the wake of the 2011 tsunami. These aren't your average ghosts who hide in the shadows. No. These ghosts are in plain sight, they look like they are alive, just like you and I. Lynze balances out the more traditional stories with two stories that may just get under your skin. To start, Lynze takes us on a hike and camping. When you are in the middle of nowhere with no one else close by, except your tent mate, and screams cut through the night air, you might not want to trust that those screams are human. For the last story of the show, we follow along one sisters journey of watching "the man" who seemed to be attached to her brother, until the end. Don't have time for a long episode with chit chat? Enjoy this bonus minisode! Beth tells us the chilling tale of La Llarona, the Weeping Woman, a famous Latin American ghost story.
During World Fantasy Con I listened in on a panel where there was a discussion of Caribbean fantasy. One of the issues that emerged was the story of La Llarona, the crying woman. It seemed the Latinx version which was brought to Puerto Rico by the Spanish explained the crying ghosts torment was because she killed her children. The Haitian and Trinidadian versions however were that her children were abducted and/or killed by others. This brought to mind the strange case of Candyman where the wraith attacks the blameless inhabitants of a housing project but doesn't strike out against those who murdered him. The recent Netflix film His House is a ghost story related to refugees from an unnamed African country and their attempt to seek asylum in London. What do our ghost stories say about us with regard to vengeance, power and cultural roots? Join us tonight to discuss.
We are taking you guys south of the border today and talking about a Mexican folklore called La Llarona or "The Weeping Woman". It is said that La Llarona murdered her children in a jealous rage by drowning them in a river, and now she roams the earth looking for them and sometimes killing other people's children in the process. We're going to tell you the origins of the story and give you a few witness testimonies as well. So sit back and enjoy! The Cinemondo gang takes a close look at some films on Shudder. HOST… a “found footage” style scare film directed by Rob Savage. Set in England the film is about a creepy Zoom seance that goes all awry with a malevolent demonic manifestation that could have been totally avoided with a little more respect for the Astral Plane (drink your shot now)… and a wonderfully moody film from Guatemala that’s hard to classify into a single category. LA LLORONA, directed by Jayro Bustamante, brings the Legend of the Weeping Woman into a contemporary setting and gives us a look into the family of a disgraced man known as “The General” who may or may not have been involved in a horrifying genocide. Guilt and retribution and vengeance play into this beautifully shot film where a family is confronted by their dark and deeply evil family history.SPOILER WARNING: This episode contains MAJOR SPOILERS which means important story details will be revealed. Learn the true legend behind the Curse of La Llarona, the latest entry in “The Conjuring” franchise. The “real” La Llarona was way more complex than the movie version, but in the end, she always takes it out on the kids.
Agenda: The calm before the storm is here. We’re one week away from the end of 11 years of Marvel movie buildup, and the beginning of the end of Game of Thrones. That means there are no big releases for us to review, so Austin went and saw a terrible horror movie: The Curse of La Llarona. We're at the height of our powers this week on the Breakfast All Day Podcast. Matt, Alonso and Christy review the indie superhero drama “Fast Color,” the insanely adorable Disneynature documentary “Penguins” and “Wild Nights With Emily,” a deadpan comedy starring Molly Shannon as poet Emily Dickinson. Alonso and Matt also discuss the horror movie “The Curse of La Llarona.” And if you're looking for our recap of the season premiere of “Game of Thrones,” you can find that over at our Patreon page, along with our discussion of the second episode of “Fosse/Verdon” and some trailers. Hope you've saved room, because from now on, you get breakfast AND brunch.

We had a lot of fun with it, you responded to us and had some fun, & then, we kinda forgot about the game until we revived it on the last few MMO Weekly episodes during our What We’re Watching segments to open those shows. Since our weekly variety shows also preview the next week’s upcoming theatrical & streaming movie releases, and since we also discussed the entire year as an Oscars pod while making our 100% Accurate Academy Award Predictions, we did away with our monthly previews of the upcoming release schedules. This was also a mistake. So we rectified two blunders in one incredibly fun episode where we play SeeBuySkip with all of the theatrical and streaming releases coming out this April, May, & June. This is both our Spring Movie Preview AND another outreach for you, our wonderful audience to join us in a fun movie game. We broke down all of the upcoming releases into - some banter filled, movie schedule previewing - themed categories. You can now hear about all of the big movies coming soon to a theater & a Netflix streaming device near you, & we’re thrilled to wrap it all up into a interactive movie game that we invented called SeeBuySkip. Which movies will we plan to buy tickets for in theaters? Which will be decide to see when they come on VOD, premium movie channels, etc… when they become available for at home viewing? And which films will we skip entirely? This is the game, and it was a brisk, entertaining episode to prepare & record for these Mikes. Now we want to know what you think. Please have fun sending us your responses to these SeeBuySkips or do send us some brain & heart busting trios of your own. We’re @MMandOscar on Twitter, and we are on Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, and Gmail. You can subscribe / rate / review / like / share / & listen to us on iTunes, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Google Play, Tune In, Spotify, and just about wherever you listen to podcasts. When reality sucks, keep watching movies with us. We’re Mike, Mike, & Oscar!
Hayley and Charlie discuss listener feedback, upcoming 2019 horror movies, the legend of La Llorona, and holographic ghosts of the future. Folklore: from Cinderella to The Little Mermaid, these stories are the basis of much of the pop culture we consume today. But are the outdated attitudes about women at the core of these stories doing more harm than good? Or would ditching these morality lessons be throwing the baby out with the bathwater? Helping us sort this all out are the hosts of the Feminist Folklore podcast Rachael Marr and Carlea Holl-Jensen. Carlea has a Masters degree from Indiana University in Folklore and Rachael loves old stories...especially scary ones. Dig in with us!
