This week, Liat and her sister Talia sit down with Dr. Maya Shankar, cognitive scientist, former Senior Advisor and founder of the White House Behavioral Science Team, Head of Behavioral Economics at Google, host of A Slight Change of Plans, and author of The Other Side of Change.Maya shares how she landed in rooms that didn't even have a role for her yet (BCBAs, take notes), and opens up about losing the identity she built as a Juilliard-trained violinist after a career-ending injury. We unpack why change is so threatening to our sense of self, why our brains hate uncertainty, and how to build a “soft landing” when life makes other plans.Liat also shares her own story of navigating serious health struggles and letting go of what she thought her career was going to look like. We talk identity, loss, growth, Love Is Blind takes, and why you are so much more than what you do.Maya's new book, The Other Side of Change: Who We Become When Life Makes Other Plans, is out now - click the link below to get your copy!Behavior Concepts Covered:PairingReinforcement Antecedent Consequence Contingency Variable ratio schedule High response effort Connect with Dr. Maya:Order Maya's book and join our book club on Mar 10th!Listen to a Slight Change of PlansInstagramYoutubeXSubstackMayaShankar.comConnect with Behavior BitchesInsta: @behaviorbitchespodcastFacebook: Behavior Bitches PodcastWebsite: BehaviorBitches.comContact Us: For podcast inquiries, episode ideas, or just to say hi, email us at behaviorbitches@studynotesaba.com Leave us a 5-star review in the Apple Podcast App so we can read it to everyone during our episodes and make us super happy!Looking for BCBA Exam Prep or CEUs?• Whether you need help passing the BCBA exam or are looking to earn CEUs, Study Notes ABA has you covered. Welcome to The Reel Schmooze with ToI film reviewer Jordan Hoffman and host Amanda Borschel-Dan, where we bring you all the entertainment news and film reviews a Jew can use. The "Schmoovie" of the week is "Holding Liat," a remarkable documentary that charts the struggle of one Israeli-American family to return its loved ones who were taken hostage to Gaza during the Hamas murderous onslaught on southern Israel on October 7, 2023. Short-listed for an Oscar for Best Documentary, "Holding Liat" is now playing at art theaters, including in New York and Los Angeles. Produced by Hollywood filmmaker Darren Aronofsky and created by brothers Brandon and Lance Kramer, we learn in the film that during the siege on Kibbutz Nir Oz, educator Liat Beinin Atzili and her husband, artist and mechanic Aviv Atzili, were separately captured by the Hamas gunmen. The film follows American-born couple Yehuda and Chaya Beinin, kibbutznikim who immigrated to Israel in the 1970s, their daughter Tal, who emigrated from Israel to Portland a decade ago, and their grandchildren, primarily Netta, who barely survived the rampage at Nir Oz. The filmmakers, cousins to the Beinin family, begin charting their relatives two weeks after the couple's capture. Through updates from the IDF, we understand that there are disturbing findings related to Aviv, but that Liat is thought to be relatively secure. Yehuda, Tal and Netta journey to Washington, DC, to attempt to sway US politicians' hearts and minds to fight for their cause, but quickly see how each generation frames the conflict and its potential resolution. Upon the joyous return of Liat during the 2023 temporary truce that saw 97 hostages freed, we learn that Aviv was slaughtered by the terrorists. However, Liat resumes her activism, pushing for a two-state solution to the ongoing conflict. Hear the conflicted reactions the intense, but nuanced film evokes in this week's The Reel Schmooze. The Reel Schmooze is produced by Ari Schlacht and can be found wherever you get your podcasts. Image: Still from 'Holding Liat' (courtesy)See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What happens when a high-achieving corporate leader realizes her legacy must be about more than titles, promotions, and golden handcuffs? In this episode of Wickedly Smart Women, host Anjel B. Hartwell welcomes Liat Kaplan, a global product innovation leader turned founder and CEO, to explore what it truly takes to leave corporate life, trust your inner conviction, and build something that matters. If you are a woman standing at the edge of change, questioning whether it's "too late" to start something meaningful, this conversation will remind you that your most important work may still be ahead of you. What You Will Learn: How personal conviction becomes essential when stepping away from corporate identity and external validation. Why clarity around purpose matters more than having everything figured out before starting. What it truly means to take a leap later in life and why age can be an advantage, not a limitation. How releasing fear of judgment creates freedom and sharper focus on what actually matters. What surprises many founders when they leave corporate structure behind. How passion and impact fuel resilience during the entrepreneurial journey. Why building a product-based business requires patience, long timelines, and strategic planning. What to consider when funding a startup, especially the importance of aligned and supportive investors. How innovation can be shaped by curiosity rather than rigid corporate processes. Why real-world problems and lived experiences often spark the most powerful business ideas. How technology can empower people to make informed, self-directed choices. Why safety, awareness, and informed decision-making are key components of modern leadership and legacy. How letting go of unnecessary processes can reignite creativity and love for one's work. Why legacy is often defined by contribution and impact rather than titles or income. How building something meaningful often requires balancing intuition with discipline. When Liat Atzili and her husband Aviv were kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz by Hamas on October 7th, 2023, their families were not only devastated by the news but also at a loss of what to do next. In Brandon and Lance Kramer's (The First Step”) brilliant, nuanced and stirring documentary “Holding Liat,” each member of the family must decide what he or she can do to help bring Liat and Aviv home not knowing what impact their actions or words will have. At times, passionate and painful disagreements break out within the family. The Kramer brothers — director Brandon and producer Lance — return to the pod to discuss the harrowing journey of the Atzili/Beinin family and the filmmakers' own connection to the story. With the fates of Liat and Aviv unknown, father Yehuda, son Netta and sister Tal embark on a byzantine quest through the corridors of power in Washington, DC to tell their story and to persuade lawmakers to do something. As the family's frustration builds, tensions boil over. After weeks of excruciating uncertainty, suddenly, news brings relief and joy to the family but also tragedy. Keeping us in its tight emotional grip throughout, “Holding Liat,” ultimately, is as much about letting go as it is about holding on. “Holding Liat” will screen at Film Forum in New York City in January, followed by a planned multi-city U.S. domestic release. What if your mainframe could talk back and guide the fix? I spoke to Liat Sokolov, Product Manager for AI solutions and an AI Evangelist at BMC Software. We explored how teams move from manuals and dashboards to real conversations with the platform. Liat breaks down why “guided resolution” beats “just answers” by giving the next right step in context, cutting time to recovery and reducing errors. We dug into the GenAI knowledge expert that keeps hard-won expertise in house as veterans retire. It becomes a coach for new developers and operators, helping them ramp faster and avoid costly mistakes. We also separated conversational AI from AI Agents and showed why enterprises need both. Picture agents coordinating across dev, ops, and cloud to roll out a change with checks, traceability, and rollback. That is how you modernize with confidence. Liat also explained why the mainframe can be the most explainable platform in the AI era, which matters for trust and safety. We finished with a practical path forward. Start with one high-value workflow, capture the expert playbook, pilot a conversational assistant with guardrails, then add agents as you prove value. If you care about making the mainframe simpler, safer, and faster, this interview is worth your time.#data #ai #mainframe #bmc #theravitshow

In this episode of the Modern Mommy Doc Podcast, Dr. Whitney Casares sits down with Liat Ron, filmmaker and producer of the new documentary Fear and Now. The film shines a light on how fear and trauma often shape the birthing experience—and how tools like hypnobirthing can transform it into something calmer, safer, and even enjoyable.Liat shares her own journey of discovery as she dove into the world of birth work, learning that women don't have to choose between medicine and empowerment. Instead, it's about reframing birth as an experience where parents can feel informed, supported, and free from unnecessary fear. You'll learn:Why fear and trauma are so common in modern birth stories—and how they can be addressed. What hypnobirthing actually is (and what it isn't).How parents can prepare for a more calm, confident, and fear-free birth. Why this movement isn't “anti-medicine”—but rather about combining safety with empowerment.Liat's behind-the-scenes experience making Fear and Now and what she hopes parents, providers, and birth workers take away from it.This conversation is an invitation to imagine birth differently: with less fear, more connection, and the possibility of joy in one of life's most powerful transitions.Find out more here. ______This episode is brought to you by Suvie: If dinnertime is your daily chaos hour, I've got something game-changing.It's called Suvie. Following the murder of Trump ally Charlie Kirk, Christiane speaks with human rights activist Martin Luther King III, the eldest son of the late civil rights icon. The two discuss the rising political violence in America and the need to seek civility. Then, Michigan's Democratic Senator, Elissa Slotkin, speaks with Christiane about what America's foreign policy should look like, following Israel striking inside Qatar and Russian drones entering Polish airspace. Plus, freed Israeli hostage Liat Beinin Atzili & filmmaker Brandon Kramer join Christiane on set in London to discuss his new film "Holding Liat," looking at how Liat's family fought for her return from Hamas captivity while also grappling with their own moral outrage over the war in Gaza and desire for peace and reconciliation. Also, Isobel Yeung reports on the UK government's decision to designate Palestine Action a terrorist group. And twenty four years after 9/11, Christiane reflects on her own coverage in the chaotic days after the attacks, and goes back to her report from Afghanistan from December of 2001, where she and her team found evidence of Osama Bin Laden's plans, his Al-Qaeda training camp, and the last place he was known to have lived before fleeing.

Venid a conocer”.
Early on, it was clear the Beinin-Atzili family was not a typical hostage family, filmmaker Brandon Kramer, director of the new award-winning documentary “Holding Liat” said on the Haaretz Podcast. After learning that his relatives, Liat and Aviv Atzili, had been kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7 and held hostage by Hamas, and that Liat’s father and son were traveling to Washington, D.C. several weeks later with other Israeli-American hostage families to lobby on behalf of their loved ones, Kramer knew he had to document the visit. As he began to film what would become “Holding Liat” – which won Best Documentary upon its debut at the Berlinale Film Festival and is about to make its U.S. premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival – Kramer noticed that their family’s experience “didn't fit neatly into any box.” Yehuda Beinin, Liat’s father, was openly calling for peace and reconciliation, and opposing the forceful military response the Israeli government was planning - from the start. At the same time, Kramer explains, “His grandson Netta – who had barely survived the attacks and was traumatized and very angry – and his other daughter, Tal, didn’t want to speak about politics at all. So within this one family, we saw a microcosm of the debates and fractures, and we felt we had a responsibility to try to make sense of this moment through this one family's lens.” Also speaking on the podcast, one of the film’s producers, Libby Lenkinski, noted that the authenticity of “Holding Liat” held it apart from the slew of October 7 documentaries designed with a political agenda that comprise “hour-and-a-half long visual op-eds” focused on making either a pro-Israel or pro-Palestinian case. At the same time, Yehuda, the film’s focus, “is a really great example of something that we see often on the left – a person warning about what might be coming and initially being thought of as alarmist or paranoid, and it turning out to be true.” When Yehuda was filmed in the first months of the war, warning that Netanyahu would pursue a brutal and endless war to serve a far-right political agenda, “I don’t think any of us could have imagined the kind of devastation that we would be seeing in Gaza, the endless killing and destruction. I think so many Israelis wanted to believe that this was necessary to bring back the hostages, and now it's just so clear that that was never the point. …Yehuda called out Bibi's bluff early on, and it turned out to be truer than we ever would have wanted to believe.” Subscribe to Haaretz.com for up-to-the-minute news and analysis from Israel in English. Today's conversation is one we wish we didn't have to have—but it's one we absolutely must. In this episode, host Eva Hartling is joined by Liat Kaplan, founder and CEO of WiSP, a device she created to address a disturbing and all-too-common issue: drink spiking.Drink spiking is more widespread than many realize. While it's hard to find stats on this issue, recent studies show that 13% of women in the UK report having had their drinks spiked at some point in their lives. Among young adults aged 18–24, it's 70% who have either experienced or witnessed drink spiking. Despite these alarming numbers, the vast majority of incidents go unreported, often due to fear, shame, or the belief that nothing will be done.Liat, who has a background in strategic marketing with brands like SodaStream where she worked on Pepsi products, and Believer Meats, decided to take action. She developed WiSP—a small, reusable device that discreetly detects the presence of drugs in drinks, providing a simple yet powerful tool for personal safety which will be available for individual consumers in both the US and Canada. In this episode, Liat shares her journey from recognizing the problem to creating a tangible solution. We discuss the challenges she faced, the technology behind WiSP, and the broader implications for women's safety. This season of our podcast is brought to you by TD Canada Women in Enterprise. The art of building authentic connections and the impact of genuinely showing up for fellow humans holds a transformative power that often gets overlooked in the hustle and bustle of daily lives. Liat Horovitz is a results coach and an ex-corporate achiever turned enthusiastic life moderator, opens up about her foray into creating gatherings that spark joy and rejuvenation. She details how her work, serves as a beacon of hope, energy, and connection, emphasizing the importance of making real-life connections. Sometimes, the greatest gift we can offer isn't wrapped in shiny paper, but in the time and presence we provide for one another. Her journey emphasizes the notion that being present, authentically and wholeheartedly, is powerful. In an era dominated by virtual interactions and digital camaraderie, nothing compares to the magic of in-person connections and sincere encouragement. Showing up for others reflects undeniably on our commitment not just to them, but to nurturing our inner selves. Despite diverse schedules and personal demands, these acts of kinship and backing remain ever-critical and wonderfully impactful. Being present for others doesn't necessitate grand gestures, as Liat points out. It's about showing up with the right energy and enthusiasm to cheer someone on. It's especially vital in this era of uncertainty, where many people experience loneliness despite being more connected than ever. Women, in particular, have an innate need for companionship, making showing up for one another an essential act of solidarity. You will not want to miss this episode of the I Am Unbreakable® Podcast. Today's daf is sponsored by Suri Davis in honor of the first birthday of her granddaughter, Hallel Ruth bat Shai Zvi and Esther Shifra Goldman. Today's daf is sponsored by Harriet Hartman in loving memory of her grandson, Ephraim ben Liat and Shmuel (Jackman) H’YD, on his first yahrzeit. "He fell in Gaza one year ago. He was a faithful daf yomi learner, even in his “namer” tank, and an inspiration to us all for his dedication to Torah, his beautiful “middot,” his maturity and humility, and the love he shared with his family." Today's daf is sponsored by Michelle Feiglin in loving memory of her father, Natan ben Devorah v'Shlomo Elimelech on his 9th yahrzeit and in loving memory of their grandson, Neriya Yosef Hoshea ben Gidon v'Avital. "My father was liberated from Buchenwald and rebuilt his life in Melbourne, Australia. He inspired my love of learning Torah and every lunchtime in the middle of his working day could be found in front of his Gemara. He had great success in business, but he always said that his biggest success was his family." Rabbi Yehuda ruled in the Mishna that if two people were related by marriage and the marriage ended, but there were children from that marriage, they are still considered relatives. Do we follow Rabbi Yehuda's ruling? Rabbi Yehuda also ruled that a close friend is disqualified from being a witness. However, the rabbis clarify that this only applies to a friend from the wedding party, and only during the week of the wedding or perhaps only on the wedding day itself. Rabbi Yehuda's ruling that a close friend or enemy is disqualified from testifying is derived from Numbers 35:23. The Mishna outlines court procedures: First, witnesses are warned to tell the truth, then they are questioned separately. In monetary cases, only designated witnesses can testify. After a majority decision is reached, it is forbidden for a judge to leave court and reveal that they disagreed with the ruling, wanting to acquit when others voted to convict, as this constitutes rechilut (gossip), a form of lashon hara (harmful speech). What warning is given to witnesses to ensure truthful testimony? Rav Yehuda, Rava, and Rav Ashi each propose different warnings, with each successive suggestion addressing perceived flaws in the previous ones. The Mishna supports Rav Yehuda's position that borrowers must formally designate witnesses. If undesignated witnesses hear a borrower's admission of debt, the borrower can claim it was said in jest. However, if the borrower denies making any admission and witnesses testify otherwise, Abaye rules that the admission is valid and the debt must be repaid. Rav Papa son of Rav Acha bar Ada quoting Rava disagrees, arguing that the borrower might have been joking and forgotten about it, since people typically don't remember trivial interactions. Another way to invalidate an admission is to claim it was made only to appear less wealthy. Can this argument be applied to deathbed statements? Do we assume that someone on their deathbed would want their children to appear less wealthy, or does this concern only apply to protecting oneself? Under what circumstances can witnesses document an admission? For loans, documenting creates a lien on the borrower's property. Therefore, documentation is permissible only when this was clearly the creditor's intention.
