Whether you're excited, anxious, or apathetic with regard to the fifth-generation Nexus smartphone from Google, you've got to admit it's a big deal. Ever since the class flagship dropped back in January of 2010, Google has used the Nexus program as a showcase of what's possible using the power of stock Android - and more recently, just how affordable that power can be. With an optically-stabilized camera, cutting-edge Snapdragon 800 processor, and many of the other features that made the LG G2 such a significant smartphone, the Nexus 5 stands a good chance of being the most impactful device ever to carry the Nexus name. We've got no shortage of opinions on the device, and they're constantly shifting as we get up-to-the-minute updates from sources as well-known as the AP and as obscure as Yorkshire-based graphics designers. All the news is doing in the intervening time is cooling off, so let's quit the jabbering and get to a very special 90 minutes of Nexus yammering on episode 068 of the Pocketnow Weekly podcast. There's one fewer Romanian on this week's podcast, and we're no longer hovering over a precarious microphone stand made of empty shoeboxes and trash cans in an Eastern European hotel room - but that doesn't mean this latest episode of the Pocketnow Weekly is lacking in charm. On the contrary, we've called in a silver-tongued devil from Honduras and a smooth-talking geocacher from middle America to provide two very different perspectives on some very high-visibility smartphones. That's right: it's Apple week. That special time of year where iOS makes its way to the top of our rundown and instigates debates that try friendships, incite rage in commenters, and fill Cupertino's coffers. It's time for Pocketnow's semi-annual iPhone podcast. But if you don't care about the new iPhone 5s and 5c, fear not: there's a whole treasure trove of Android and Windows Phone news on the other side of the Apple divide, including some LG G2, HTC One Max, and Nokia Lumia 1520 discussion that's sure to get your hardware glands salivating. If that sounds like the kind of podcast you're into, and you're also a fan of extended bouts of listener mail ranging from carrying-case discussion to speculation on just what the future holds for Microsoft's mobile platform, well, you've found the right place. So pull the pins out of your ejection seat and lock down the canopy: your three-man flight team of Jaime, Adam, and Michael are ready to catapult you into the stratosphere with yet another installment of the Pocketnow Weekly mobile-technology podcast.
We're on the eve of the launch of a most significant (if not spec-packed) smartphone, the Moto X. We're hot on the heels of the industry's latest benchmark-juicing scandal with Samsung's Galaxy S 4 tweaking. We're only a week away from seeing what LG has to offer with its G2 (though we already know what accessories it's launching with). And we're not even a week out from the launch of the Nokia Lumia 1020, but we're already in full-on fretting mode about our favorite Finns. That roster would be enough to fuel two podcast episodes this size, to say nothing of listener mail! But thanks to some resolute pacing and the help of two veteran co-hosts of the Weekly, we're able to power through this super-dense rundown in just under 90 minutes, while also touching on such pressing issues as Google Wallet, the new HTC 8XT, and all the fakery surrounding Apple's rumored "iPhone 5C." All that, plus two or three pieces of listener mail and a promise of more to come, after the break. So get your gun and bring the cat in: it's not just the rain you hear coming, but today's Pocketnow Weekly mobile-technology podcast. In episode 30 of the DL Show, we talk a lot about the current happenings at Motorola. With four new devices on the horizon, three that are DROID branded, they are on the verge of making a major splash. But since we had a week off, there were plenty of other topics to be had including the LG G2, T-Mobile's announcements, bootloaders revisited, and our favorite apps of the week.
In episode 29, we had more topics to cover than any show in recent memory. After a week off, we dove into the new Google Play Edition phones, all that surrounds Motorola leaks, LG G2 rumors, Samsung's new products, and our apps of the moment. Another great show!
