Luni Libes, founder of Africa Eats, is a serial entrepreneur, or, actually, a Parallel Entrepreneur, currently running about 5 companies that help social enterprises. He started and sold several tech startups before moving into impact investing. Now he runs several Businesses that help other startups. For example, He runs the startup accelerator Fledge. He provides follow on investment through Africa Eats. He teachers investors how to invest at the Angel Sccelerator (a very important thing, btw. Angel investors need to learn how to invest just like entrepreneurs need to learn how to runa business). His has a community called Realize Impact and Investor Flow which helps shares opportunities for investors. Today we talked about Africa Eats which is not a investment fund but a holding company--a totally new way to provide capital to entrepreneurs that I think we will see a lot more of once Luni proves that it works. You can best think of Africa Eats as Berkshire Hathaway for food in Africa. Luni is an absolutely incredible personality and doing amazing work. Africa Eats is a small company now but I think they are well positioned to be huge. I was really lucky to get him on the podcast because I'm sure in a year or two he will be on The Joe Rogan Experience and Tim Ferriss show and he won't have any time for small podcast like me so the real pleasure to talk to him. One can create impact with a company by embedding the mission into its products or solutions. Like Wholefoods, the mission to provide high quality organic food to people was built into its business model. 2. Learn to think outside the book with the limited resources you have. Great businesses are often built from the ingenuity of an entrepreneur who is able to make the most of what they have and to innovate something out of it. 3. Focus on being able to tell your company's story. Good storytelling gets a higher level of engagement from customers and helps grow your business.Connect with Ted on: His Website at : www.tedteo.com LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ted-teo/ Instagram at: @ted.teo Facebook at : https://www.facebook.com/groups/tedteo

Once in Southern California, Howard pursued his original profession of being a writer. He wrote for LA Times Magazine and worked as a collaborator and interviewer on a book, meeting with some pretty famous folks along the way. Realizing that he enjoyed his community of friends in Oregon, he moved back to Eugene and started managing a few NW bands. This stint in the music business lasted awhile, but Howard decided to get back to writing, completing a Science Fiction novel called “When All Else Fails”. He’d had this idea in his brain as a teenager and produced an amazing work-of art that is just the first in a series of books that he’s going to complete. He's also been known to play ahead of the curve (tablets and smartphones) and see the trends and revolutions coming, albeit sometimes he gets there too early. He also sees things differently and has been at the forefront of early and seed stage impact focused support and investing and for years. He's a serial tech entrepreneur turned impact investor and ecosystem builder. His company, Fledge, is an innovative model for all forms of accelerator and incubator programs, and are one with a model that allow companies to continue to receive support from the accelerator once their cohort graduates. Fledge's innovative for-profit investment thesis allows companies to focus on the most important metric to their success - getting customers - while using a small portion of their revenues to gradually buy back equity from its investors. This models provides investors with a 4x return on their investment, and makes the ROI comparable to tech investing. With the launch of Aviary, Luni has now built three major required pieces of a startup ecosystem. A pre-accelerator, an incubator/accelerator program, and now a seed stage impact investing fund. In this episode, Luni will give you the blueprint for how you can join him and start building an impact focused startup support ecosystem in your city.   Admittedly Michael “Luni” Libes is one of the biggest reasons for my entry into the field of impact investing. He was an early influence when I first got involved in the space back in Seattle, and was one of the people that gave me the opportunity to start learning and developing my understanding of impact investing and conducting due diligence on social good startups. It is because of all of these reasons that I am so excited to bring you this episode and share with you a glimpse into how seed stage impact investors see the world of social enterprise and startups. Michael “Luni” Libes is the social entrepreneurs’ social entrepreneur. He created Fledge, an accelerator for social entrepreneurs that has now helped to create over $10 million in total funding for it ventures since its founding in 2012. The problem, as Luni sees it, is all wrapped up in opportunity. “The trouble is, the problems of the world continue to expand, while the majority of the money, infrastructure, and power lie in the for-profit sector. If only businesses solved the important problems of the world, their success would lead to profits, scaling up those solutions, then more profits, more scaling, and so on, in a virtuous, self-sustaining cycle.” Luni boasts, “Thirty-nine ’fledglings’ have graduated from the six Fledge programs run over the last three years. Companies such as Evrnu, making cotton recyclable; BURN Manufacturing and Obamastove, manufacturing clean cookstoves in Africa; Distributed Energy Management, conserving energy through financial management; Ensibuuko, modernizing the savings and credit co-ops of East Africa; Seeder, matching green builders with green building suppliers; East Africa Fruit, aggregating and distributing fruits and vegetables in Tanzania, Deehubs, at the corner of free speech and social media; Shift Labs, designing medical devices for the developing world, and dozens of others.” Read the full Forbes article and watch the interview here: http://onforb.es/1WwRng7.
