Hey Horror Fans!!!This week we are joined by David Joseph Craig and Brian Crano, the filmmakers (and real life couple) behind I Don't Understand You, a sharp and offbeat dark comedy about an American couple navigating the adoption process while on vacation in Italy. As tensions rise and misunderstandings multiply, the film explores what it means to stay connected when everything around you starts to fall apart...and turn murderous!!We talk with David and Brian about drawing from their own journey toward parenthood, how they approached the story's unique mix of humor and discomfort, and why they wanted to center a queer couple whose love isn't in question. We also get into the pitch perfect performances from Nick Kroll and Andrew Rannells, the grounding warmth of Amanda Seyfried, and the joy of working with Italian legend Nunzia Schiano. Funny, tense, tender, violent and totally original, this is a conversation you wont want to miss about love under pressure, identity abroad, and the messy beauty of trying to be understood sooo....COME HANG OUT!!!Follow Us on Social Media:Instagram & Threads: @mostlyhorrorpodTikTok & Twitter/X: @mostlyhorrorSteve: @stevenisaverage on all socialsSean: @hypocrite.ink on IG/TikTok, @hypocriteink on Twitter/XEnjoy this episode? This is a fun episode of BEHIND THE LENS as I'm doing something this week that I haven't done before – and that is give you an interview with a film's director, followed by my interview with his cinematographer. The film is the thriller BARRON'S COVE. The director/writer is EVAN ARI KELMAN. The cinematographer is MATTHEW JENSEN. But hilarity also ensues today thanks to co-writers/directors DAVID JOSEPH CRAIG and BRIAN CRANO as they talk about their new laugh-filled collaboration, I DON'T UNDERSTAND YOU. First up, I DON'T UNDERSTAND YOU. Based on their own life experiences, David and Brian give us Dom (Nick Kroll) and Cole (Andrew Rannells), a couple on the verge of adopting a baby, embark on an Italian vacation — the perfect opportunity to reconnect before the new addition arrives. Everything is picture-perfect, the epitome of a European babymoon, when things begin to spiral out of control. Lost on the way to dinner, their car gets stuck in a ditch, stranding them in rural nowhere during a torrential downpour. These two Americans, who are used to being catered to, are now in a foreign land with no cell service, zero comprehension of the Italian language, and, as fear takes over, escalating turmoil that could explode at any moment. Co-Written and Co-Directed by Brian Crano and David Joseph Craig, I DON'T UNDERSTAND YOU stars Nick Kroll, Andrew Rannells (who was a Grand Marshall in yesterday's pride parade in Hollywood), Morgan Spector, Nunzia Schiano, Eleanora Romandini, Paolo Romano, and Amanda Seyfried. Then we switch gears from laughter to the nail-biting tension of a thriller – BARRON'S COVE. Written and Directed by EVAN ARI KELMAN, BARRON'S COVE stars Garrett Hedlund, Brittany Snow, Christian Convery, Hamish Linklater, Stephen Lang, and Raul Castillo. BARRON'S COVE follows a father with a violent past (Hedlund) as he grieves the sudden loss of his only child. Convinced of a cover-up and intent on obtaining answers about his son's death, he kidnaps the troubled boy he holds responsible – the son of a prominent local politician, which ignites a media firestorm and frenzied manhunt. But as he grows ever closer to uncovering the truth, he is left to wonder whether his pursuers are really seeking to protect the boy or merely the secrets he keeps. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

In this episode, GG Hawkins is joined by writer-director duo (and real-life couple) David Joseph Craig and Brian Crano to discuss their new film I Don't Understand You, a genre-bending dark comedy starring Nick Kroll and Andrew Rannells. The film follows a couple on a babymoon in Italy that spirals into chaos and violence. They also dive into the mechanics of shooting stunts, working with passionate collaborators, and sustaining a creative life while parenting. In this episode, No Film School's GG Hawkins and guests David Joseph Craig and Brian Crano discuss... How personal experiences shaped the emotionally charged and comedic tone of I Don't Understand You Transitioning from individual careers in acting and theater to collaborative filmmaking Tips for making international co-productions smoother, especially in Italy The logistics and artistry of filming stunts that are both shocking and funny Balancing parenting and directing, and how being a parent reshapes storytelling instincts Hiring passionate collaborators to elevate areas where you may feel less confident Why directors should consider editing or DP paths for a more sustainable career Memorable Quotes: "My films are like my ex-wives — I'm glad they exist and I never want to see them again." "We just decided early that on set, we would shoot everything and figure it out after." "Directing is like being eaten by crows — no one wants all of you, but everyone wants three bites." It's not unusual for real-life experiences to serve as an inspiration for a movie. That's the case with "I Don't Understand You," a collaboration between David Joseph Craig and Brian Crano, who wrote and directed the comedy horror starring Nick Kroll, Andrew Rannells and Morgan Spector. In this episode, hear from the directors and what led them to make the film, as well as both Kroll and Rannells. Speaking of horror, Stephen King has long been king of the genre, but some of his less-than-scary stories have made for some great film adaptations, such as "Stand By Me" and "The Shawshank Redeption." The latest, "The Life of Chuck" starring Tom Hiddleston, is gaining a lot of buzz as one of the top films so far this year. This episode brings you an interview and a memorable red carpet experience for a SXSW film that we had so much fun watching! I Don't Understand You is a narrative film that follows an American couple on the verge of adopting a baby as they find themselves stranded in rural Italy without transportation or language skills. And of course, chaos ensues. Our first interview is with producers Jessamine Burgum and Kara Durrett from Pinky Promise Films. We get into starting a production company during the heart of the pandemic, their decision making process for new films, how being a young company is an advantage in an ever changing industry, and what a difference it makes to work with really cool people. We cap off this episode at the red carpet premiere for the film, where we were joined by co-directors/co-writers David Joseph Craig and Brian Crano, and actors Nick Kroll, Andrew Rannells, Morgan Spector, and Eleonora Romandini. We talk about everything from parenting fears and horse sausage, to fake Italian accents and big clit energy! In short, it was a good time.Follow Pink Promise Films on IGFollow producer Jessamine Burgum on IGFollow producer Kara Durrett on IGFollow director/writer David Joseph Craig on IGFollow director/writer Brian Crano on IGFollow actor Nick Kroll on IGFollow actor Andrew Rannells on IGFollow actor Morgan Spector on IGFollow actor Eleonora Romandini on IGBuy tickets and join us at the first ever POC Food and Wine Festival HERE!Audio engineering by Jeff Hunt from Storied: San FranciscoSupport the Show. Thanks for listening and for your support!
