Sorry the episode is a few minutes late! I may be changing the upload time to 9pm EST on Tuesday, just because it's hard to get the edit out by 8. We'll see! In this week's episode, the first in a series, Roo starts taking you through the ins and outs of Pixinsight. What started as a simple "lets highlight the favorite features of" Pixinsight quickly devolves, right before your ears, into the very process Roo uses to process his own photos. In this first episode, we cover the costs associated with purchasing a license for PI, as well as its competitors. We also go over how to separate your lights from calibration frames, folder structure, and then importing the files into PI so you can properly use the Weighted Batch Preprocessing script. By the end of the episode, you'll have a fully stacked and an auto-stretched image. Next week, we will get into the next steps of processing. I am including a link to my Google Drive which includes some data you can use to follow along, in case you don't have your own. This is nothing fancy, just some M42 data. Truth be told, I haven't stacked it myself yet. But if it's amazing, let me know. It's from my new 135 rig. There is also a folder that includes my goto Icons for Pixinsight, though we'll go over that in more detail on next weeks episode. One of the most remarkable sights in the night sky is M42, the Orion Nebula. It looks like a hazy patch of light in Orion's Sword, which is to the right of his three-star belt in early evening. The nebula is one of the most-distant objects that's visible to the eye alone – more than 1300 light-years away. It's also one of the biggest – a couple of dozen light-years across. What's really remarkable, though, is the nebula's identity. It's a nursery that's given birth to thousands of stars, with thousands more being born today. And all of that activity has taken place over just a few million years. M42 contains huge clouds of gas and dust. Clumps of this material collapse to form stars. The most massive stars form a cluster known as the Trapezium. These stars are much bigger, brighter, and heavier than the Sun. They produce a lot of ultraviolet energy. It zaps the gas around them, making it glow. If you could travel inside M42, you'd see hundreds or thousands of stars. Some would be too bright to look at directly, while others would look like dull embers. Ribbons and curtains of gas would surround you, glowing pink, green, or blue-white. Dark lanes and blobs would run through the background – dense clouds of dust where more stars are taking shape. You'd also see some objects that look a bit like tadpoles – proplyds – the possible birthplaces of planets. We'll have more about that tomorrow.  Script by Damond Benningfield Support McDonald Observatory

We've done a lot of deep dives into specific camera brands here on the Camerosity Podcast, but one brand I've been the most excited to do was Yashica.  Some of my earliest acquisitions of film cameras right when I first started collecting were Yashicas, from the wonderful Yashica Electro 35 to the Yashica-Mat TLR, to the Yashica TL-Super, there was probably a time when nearly 20% of my collection was a Yashica. More than that, if you were to break down the entire Japanese camera industry into A, B, and C-List manufacturers with Nikon and Canon at the top, and the hordes of "one and done" Japanese makers from the 1950s in the C-List, Yashica seems to be one company that exists somewhere between A and B. So for this podcast, I really wanted to bring out the big guns and invite not one, but two people who love Yashica more than I do.  The first guest is someone who I've interviewed before on my "One Hour Photo" series, is Paul Sokk.  Hailing from about 90 minutes away from Theo, Paul is THE authority on Yashica TLRs, fixed lens Yashicas, and early Yashica SLRs.  He also has a huge amount of info on Nicca, Leotax, and Canon rangefinders too making his site a very worthwhile read for many collectors. In addition is Chris Whelan who has frequently collaborated with Paul, providing him with information and photographs that Paul has used on his site.  Chris has bought, owned, and sold a huge number of rare Yashicas, even to people you probably know.  Mike personally owns a few cameras that Chris has previously sold to other people, completing some form of Camerosity/Yashica Cycle of Life. In this episode, we focus on the early days of Yashima, their TLRs, early SLRs, the company's acquisition of Nicca and Nicca rangefinders, and touch upon some of Yashica's great fixed lens rangefinders, plus some of their stranger cameras like the Sequelle and Samurai. As always, the topics we discuss on the Camerosity Podcast are influenced by you!  Please don't feel like you have to be an expert on a specific type of camera, or have the level of knowledge on par with other people on the show.  We LOVE people who are new to shooting and are interested in having an episode dedicated to people new to the hobby, so please don't consider your knowledge level to be a prerequisite for joining! The guys and I rarely know where each episode is going to go until it happens, so if you'd like to join us on a future episode, be sure to look out for our show announcements on our Camerosity Podcast Facebook page, and right here on mikeeckman.com.  We usually record every other Monday and announcements, along with the Zoom link are typically shared 2-3 days in advance. We don't yet know what we will be doing for our next show, but we are definitely mulling on some topics suggested to us from other listeners, plus the many different areas in which we interact with you on social medial.  Whatever we decide to do, I am sure it will be interesting and a lot of fun, so be sure to join us on Monday, November 13th for the recording of Episode 59! Very few episodes of the Camerosity Podcast are recorded without mentioning at least one Soviet camera, or something about the Soviet photo industry.  When deciding what we should discuss in future episodes, it was quite a surprise to the gang and I when we realized we had never devoted an entire episode to the subject, so for Episode 56, we put out the call for all our Soviet comrades, poured a large glass of водка, and loaded some film into our favorite Советские Фотоаппараты. Joining us on our tour of camera factories in Moscow, Kyiv, Leningrad, and Minsk are esteemed Soviet camera collector and blogger, Vladislav Kern and all around Soviet enthusiast Mark Beadle.  In addition to Vlad and Mark, regular callers Mark Faulkner, Ray Nason, and Ira Cohen came along for the ride as well. As we often do, Episode 56 starts off with some history and a quick summary of Soviet factories and how their photo industry differed from those in Germany, Japan, and elsewhere.  A whole lot of Soviet GAS was discussed including recommendations for first Soviet cameras for someone whose never shot one, Mike raves repeatedly about Soviet triplets, Paul shares with us his incredibly rare Soviet Leica Summicron lens, and Anthony gets into a discussion about the Soviet motion picture industry. In this episode we talk about Smenas, the half frame Chaika and Agat, the panoramic Horizont, medium format Iskra, the Leningrad and Droug rangefinders, Soviet fakes, swirly bokeh, and a whole host of other Soviet GAS. Later in the show we get into a round of Soviet Mythbusters in which Mike asks Vlad several commonly cited "facts" about Soviet cameras, and whether they are true.  Find out if orphaned children really built FED rangefinders, whether cameras with English logos are built with a higher quality, or whether or not you really need to wind your Soviet camera before changing shutter speeds. For our next episode, we are coming back to a favorite topic of the show, which is film stocks and film developing.  We will be welcoming back Robert Shanebrook from Eastman Kodak to talk about all the different types of film from history and past, and hopefully get some insight into what might come in the future.  These film emulsion episodes are always fascinating, so be sure to join us on Monday, October 16th for the recording of Episode 57! Fight Laugh Feast Conference - Ark Encounter This year, our Fight Laugh Feast Conference is at the Ark Encounter in Kentucky on The Politics of Six Day Creation. The politics of six day creation is the difference between a fixed standard of justice and a careening standard of justice, the difference between the corrosive relativism that creates mobs and anarchy and the freedom of objectivity, truth, and due process. The politics of six day creation establishes the authority and sufficiency of God’s Word for all of life: from what is a man or a woman, when does human life begin, and how is human society best organized? Come hear Ken Ham, Pastor Doug Wilson, Dr. Ben Merkle, Dr. Gordon Wilson, me and more, and of course a live CrossPolitic show! Mark your calendars for October 11th-14th, as we fight, laugh, and feast, with beer & psalms, our amazing lineup of speakers, our Rowdy Christian Merch, and a Sabbath Feast to wrap up the occasion. Maybe an infant baptism while we’re at it? https://www.zerohedge.com/political/ohios-apocalyptic-chemical-disaster-rages "Get The Hell Out Of There" - Ohio's Chemical Disaster Rages On While the US government is dispensing millions of dollars in resources to treat balloons as an existential crisis, a small town in Ohio finds itself engulfed in what actually looks like the apocalypse. Perhaps by design, all of the drama surrounding violations of US airspace by Chinese spy initiatives has done well to keep what is becoming one of the worst environmental disasters in recent memory from getting any headlines. The chaos began early last week when a train of more than 100 cars derailed in East Palestine, Ohio near the state’s border with Pennsylvania with roughly 5,000 residents. The accident launched fifty of those hundred freight cars from the tracks. Twenty of the freight cars on the train were carrying hazardous materials, ten of which were derailed. While the accident had no fatalities, of those ten cars, five contained pressurized vinyl chloride, a highly flammable carcinogenic gas. https://youtu.be/DHiXZUgQEwc - Play Video In order to address the volatile scenario around the crash site, the Ohio Emergency Management Agency executed its plan of venting the toxic gas with a controlled burn in order to evade an uncontrolled explosion which presented the risk of catastrophic damage. “Within the last two hours, a drastic temperature change has taken place in a rail car, and there is now the potential of a catastrophic tanker failure which could cause an explosion with the potential of deadly shrapnel traveling up to a mile,” Gov. Mike DeWine warned in statement explaining the decision to take action to avert widespread devastation. However, that operation sent large plumes of smoke containing vinyl chloride, phosgene, hydrogen chloride, and other gases into the air as the flames from the controlled burn raged on for days. Phosgene in particular is a highly toxic gas that can cause vomiting and respiratory trouble. The toxicity of phosgene gas is so potent that it was previously used as a chemical weapon during the First World War. https://twitter.com/i/status/1625155991724605440 - Play Video The hazardous airborne chemicals prompted officials to issue mandatory evacuation and shelter-in-place orders within a one-mile radius of where the train derailed. Those orders forced nearly 2,000 residents of East Palestine out of their homes. Despite the public safety risk in proximity to the crash site, over 500 people within the parameters of the evacuation order refused to leave their homes. However, those orders were lifted on February 8th, allowing residents to return to the area adjacent to the disaster. Dead fish are being pulled from rivers outside East Palestine, Ohio. The trucks doing the work are labeled EnviroScience, an Ohio-based company that provides "time-sensitive solutions to environmental challenges." https://twitter.com/i/status/1625214717945057282 - Play Video Amanda Breshears found her chickens dead ten miles from East Palestine. https://twitter.com/i/status/1625214716443504641 - Play Video Holzer’s concerns were echoed by reports from other residents who described similar conditions near their own properties. One of those residents was Katlyn Schwarzwaelder, the operator of a local dog kennel in nearby Darlington, Pennsylvania. The catastrophe caused her to leave her home despite the fact that it lies more than 10 miles away from the site of the controlled burn. After fleeing to Boardman, Ohio, 15 miles away from the derailment, Schwarzwaelder stated she received multiple reports of dead chickens, fish, and other animals from friends and acquaintances. One affected resident told Schwarzwaelder that they let their 2-year old dog out to use the bathroom only for it never to return. When they embarked upon a search for their missing pet, they found it dead in their yard. Testimony from Holzer, Schwarzwaelder, and others paints a drastically different picture than the official narrative tailored by officials who assured residents that the situation was under control. The poor air quality presents short and long term health risks to the public considering the carcinogenic effects of the chemicals. Carcinogens like vinyl chloride can cause cancer in organs including the liver, according to Kevin Crist, a professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering who also serves as the Director of Ohio University’s Air Quality Center. The magnitude of this story has been seemingly scrubbed from the public view as national media outlets continue to run sensationalist headlines about issues that look innocuous in comparison. It is an instance of history being rewritten in real time, setting a precedent that would allow victims of other widespread devastation to be swept under the rug. However, the scenes of the horror engulfing this small town in America’s heartland may prove to make this disaster impossible to ignore, rightfully putting the spotlight on the shortcomings of state and federal agencies tasked with emergency response management whose continued lack of accountability enables them to fail the American public time and time again. Before I move on, I want to remind everyone, that the federal government isn’t who we should be relying on. All their authority was granted by our creator. It’s our Lord and savior Jesus Christ who our faith must lie upon. So we take our prayer requests about Ohio to our Lord. CrossPolitic Email List: Are you subscribed to our CrossPolitic email list? The congressionally mandated sale will amount to 26 million barrels of crude, according to people familiar with the matter. The sale is in accordance with a budget mandate enacted in 2015 for the current fiscal year, said a spokesperson for the Department of Energy. The Energy Department has sought to stop some of the sales required by 2015 legislation so that it can refill the emergency reserve, which currently has about 371 million barrels. After this latest release, the reserve will dip to about 345 million. Biden officials decided last year to tap 180 million barrels from the strategic reserve in an effort to ease supply issues after Russia invaded Ukraine, upending global oil flows and sending crude above $100 a barrel. Some Republicans have criticized the Biden administration for that drawdown, which was the biggest release ever and helped drain the SPR to its lowest level since 1983. Critics admonished the move as a political stunt intended to combat rising gasoline prices ahead of midterm elections. Biden officials have since spoken with energy companies about purchasing oil to refill the SPR when prices approach $70 a barrel. The latest release comes after Russia unveiled plans to curtail production by half-a-million barrels a day next month to retaliate against sanctions. Russia’s move, which was downplayed by the European Union, follows China’s rapid economic reopening with the scrapping of Covid-19 restrictions. The SPR release may give pause to the OPEC+ alliance, which earlier said that global oil markets remain balanced. So how did the market react? The US House last month passed legislation meant to curb the Energy secretary’s ability to use the reserve unless the government increases the amount of federal lands available for gas and oil drilling. Other congressionally required releases — about 140 million barrels slated for fiscal years 2024 through 2027 — were canceled at the Energy Department’s behest after lawmakers in December approved a provision in a giant spending bill. West Texas Intermediate, the US benchmark for crude, fell 1% to trade near $79 a barrel after the announcement of more barrels. https://thepostmillennial.com/breaking-suspect-in-michigan-state-university-shooting-found-dead-from-self-inflicted-gunshot-at-least-3-people-killed?utm_campaign=64487 Suspect in Michigan State University shooting found dead from self-inflicted gunshot, at least 3 people killed The suspect in the Michigan State University shooting was found dead off campus late Monday night from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. MSU Police Interim Deputy Chief Chris Rozman said, “There is no longer a threat on campus and the shelter-in-place has been lifted.” Police had earlier described the suspect as a "black male, shorter in stature, red shoes, jean jacket, wearing a baseball cap that is navy with a lighter brim." Rozman said the deceased individual matched the description of the suspect but did not reveal the suspect's identity. During a press conference late Monday night, Rozman said 3 people had been killed and 5 have been hospitalized. The victims, some in critical condition, were transported to Sparrow Hospital. Police responded to reports of an active shooting at Michigan State University in East Lansing Monday night and students were ordered to shelter in place. The incident took place at 8:18 pm inside Berkey Hall the location of MSU's Department of Sociology on the northern boundary of the campus. The shelter-in-place order went out at 8:31 pm telling students to stay inside and barricade themselves. "Run, Hide, Fight. Run means evacuate away from danger if you can do so safely, Hide means to secure-in-place, and Fight means protect yourself if no other option," MSU said in the alert. According to authorities, the suspect walked to the MSU Union, approximately 19 minutes away from the initial shooting site and opened fire. Hundreds of officers from the FBI, ATF, Michigan State Police, and other agencies are still assisting on campus. All campus activities have been canceled for 48 hours and authorities have asked people not to come to the campus on Tuesday. Now that was some heavy subject matter, so let’s go ahead and end with this… this is the fight laugh feast network afterall! https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/feb/14/man-facing-jail-over-theft-of-almost-200000-cadbury-creme-eggs Man facing jail over theft of almost 200,000 Cadbury Creme Eggs A chocolate thief is facing jail after admitting he stole almost 200,000 Cadbury Creme Eggs in a heist worth more than £31,000. Joby Pool, 32, dubbed “the Easter bunny” by police, used a stolen lorry cab to make off with chocolate after breaking into a Telford industrial unit with a metal grinder on Saturday. He is expected to be jailed for about two years next month, after pleading guilty to theft and criminal damage. Opening the facts of the case on Tuesday, prosecutor Owen Beale told Kidderminster magistrates court: “I don’t know if you have seen the news recently – there was a load that was stolen and on the trailer was Cadbury’s products, a large number of Creme Eggs.” He said Pool, a self-employed ground worker, used a tractor unit that had been stolen in the Yorkshire area in October to tow away the trailer full of chocolate, which was then driven away, eventually reaching the northbound M42. Pool was spotted by police and “gave up at junction 11 and walked towards the police with his hands up. He was arrested and the load was recovered”. “This clearly wasn’t spur-of-the-moment offending, if I can put it like that, because he had taken with him a tractor unit and he had to know that the load was there in the first place,” said Beale. Magistrates were told Pool, from West Yorkshire, was previously convicted of theft, handling stolen goods and driving while disqualified in 2019. Beale said: “This is clearly an organised criminal matter. You don’t just happen to learn about a trailer with that kind of value being available.” Defence solicitor John McMillan, told the court that Pool understood a substantial sentence was likely. In a series of tweets on Monday, West Mercia police described the incident as an “eggs-travagent theft” of a “chocolate collection box”. “Shortly after the theft a vehicle, presumably purporting to be the Easter bunny, was stopped northbound on the M42 and a man was arrested on suspicion of theft,” they said. Pool will be sentenced at Shrewsbury crown court on 14 March.

This is Garrison Hardie with your CrossPolitic Daily Newsbrief for Wednesday, February 15th, 2023. When recording Episode 38, we ended the discussion at the end of the M42 era and picked up with the K-mounts in Episode 40.  Although you never heard us touch upon the K-mounts in Episode 38, we actually did start talking about them, but decided to scrap that part as it was making the episode too long. Originally, I had thought I could edit the unused K-mount audio into the next episode, but it turned out that we had enough to fill a whole episode, so the K-mount audio was not needed.   It is clear you all REALLY like Pentax, so not wanting to deprive everyone of more of what they want, here is that unused K-mount discussion from Episode 38 from the cutting room floor.  We really only touch upon two topics, some of which we covered again in Episode 40, but if you need just a little more with your morning cup of coffee, here it is, unedited for your listening pleasure! As always, the topics we discuss on the Camerosity Podcast are decided by you.  We would love to hear from more listeners, especially those who are new to shooting film or collecting cameras. We're starting off the new year with a continuation of the Pentax discussion we started in Episode 38.  Pentax Part Deux picks up with the K-Mount SLRs produced by Asahi in the 1970s and we go through the auto focus cameras, covering Pentax point and shoots, and even the Pentax 67 and 110 cameras to round out many of the most popular models from that era.  If you are fans of the Pentax MX, LX, ME Super, 110 Auto, or even the PC35AF, this is the episode you won't want to miss! Joining us on this episode are returning callers Mark Faulkner, Robert Rotoloni, Andrew Smith, Larry Effler, and Mario Piper, and first time callers Marcy Merrill from junkstorecameras.com, Ed Gabe, and Nate Ostroushko. In addition to gobs of Pentax love, we cover Ricoh/Pentax's recent announcement of their intent to reintroduce film cameras, fantasizing about what we'd like to see in a new camera, and what to avoid from previous Kickstarter projects like the Reflex and Ihagee Elbaflex prototypes.  We answer the tough questions regarding M42 vs K-mount lenses, cover what seems to be everyone's favorite digicam, plus Mike gets to visit a previous guest and hold a historically significant replica. Joining us on this episode are returning callers, Robert Rotoloni, Hong Joon Lee, Miles Libak, and Mario Paper, and also first time caller, Dave Roberts.  From the earliest Asahiflexes all the way to the Ricoh Digital Pentaxes...  Okay, we never actually made it that far, as it turns out there is far more Pentax talk we could fit into a single episode, so we had to stop at the end of the M42 era.  But for the hour plus we talk about Pentax, there is quite a large amount of Takumar and Pentax love! Listen to this episode to learn about one of the coolest Pentax prototypes ever made, where did the Pentax name come from, and what the element layouts of many early Takumar lenses. Although there is a great deal of Pentax info in this episode, we get off track at the very beginning episode talking about 127 cameras, including some of our recent 127 camera pickups and what our favorite recent shooters have been.  No worries though, we eventually pull ourselves out of the 127 rabbit hole and get back on topic. 9 to 5 Photographer

#021 - Welcome back to another episode of ‘9 to 5 photographer', the podcast to help you get more shoots, make more money and spend more time doing the things you love. Now today is Saturday, it's mid-September which means I'm about to jump in the car and head to the NEC for The Photography Show. I love this event, it's good to speak to photographers, to exhibitors, I know that Sanjay Jogia will be there representing Canon so I'm hoping to catch up with him and generally just catch up with some familiar faces there. So, in the style of a Blues Brother, I got a full tank of gas, it's not dark but I will be wearing sunglasses so it's time to thunder up the A34, the M40, around the M42 and into the NEC for The Photography Show 2022.Website:www.9to5photo.comThe Photography Show online:www.photographyshow.com

The pandemic turned photographers back to film in droves. If you're looking for the best film SLR cameras to choose from while you're just getting into film, you've come to the right place. We've reviewed a whole lot of them over the years we've been around. And more importantly, the options we're choosing in this list suit a slew of criteria. A lot of them have mechanical shutters. Some of them don't, but then we recommend that you not spend an arm and a leg. But most importantly, we've done full and thorough reviews on all these cameras. Dive in with us! The Phoblographer's various product round-up features are done in-house. Our philosophy is simple: you wouldn't get a Wagyu beef steak review from a lifelong vegetarian. And you wouldn't get photography advice from someone who doesn't touch the product. We only recommend gear we've fully reviewed. If you're wondering why your favorite product didn't make the cut, there's a chance it's on another list. If we haven't reviewed it, we won't recommend it. This method keeps our lists packed with industry-leading knowledge. Some of our stories include affiliate links. If you buy something through one of these links, we may earn an affiliate commission. Table of Contents Pro Tips on Choosing the Best Film SLR for You Pentax Spotmatic: Access to Incredible Lenses Standout Features Nons SL42 Mk 2: Give Your Old Lenses New Life Standout Features Canon EOS Elan 7: The Best Film SLR Camera for Canon EF on a Budget Standout Features Mamiya RB67 Pro S: An Incredibly Versatile Camera Standout Features MiNT SLR 670-S: Yes, It's an SLR Standout Features Minolta Maxxum 7: Sony Fam, Here's Your Best Film SLR Standout Features Leica R6: The Affordable Leica. No, We're Not Kidding Standout Features Contax NX: The Best Film SLR with Lenses to Match Standout Features Pro Tips on Choosing the Best Film SLR for You We've used tons of film cameras and we've even reviewed lots of film emulsions as well. Here are tips on choosing the best film SLR for you: No, your mirrorless camera lenses won't adapt to the film camera (but you could do the opposite). Whenever possible, go for a camera with a mechanical shutter. If the battery stops working, you'll still be able to keep shooting. This helped us choose some of the best film SLR cameras on this list. But with some mounts, it just isn't possible. At the moment, we're not including anything for Nikon F mount. This mount gets insanely complicated and is worth writing a blog post in and of itself. Besides, there are so many that could make this list of the best film SLR cameras for a beginner. When traveling, consider putting your film in a bag that will be hand checked. Don't run it through the X-Ray machine; their strength tends to vary from airport to airport and it could damage your film. Modern film photography is much different than it was in the past. The frame rate means nothing because film is expensive. The autofocus is nowhere as good as modern mirrorless cameras. But what's more important is how durable these film cameras are. Check the viewfinder and diopter. If you wear glasses, you'll need something that lets you see clearly. SLR stands for single lens reflex. This means that you can see what the lens sees. It's very useful when using things like graduated ND filters. Pentax Spotmatic: Access to Incredible Lenses Standout Features This Pentax has an M42 screwmount. It can adapt a ton of different lenses. But what's more important is how big and bright the viewfinder is. I'm legally blind, and I could see through it with little struggle. Oh, plus it's affordable. In our review, we state: “The Pentax Spotmatic is pretty much all metal. Considering that there are virtually zero electronics to deal with you won't have any sort of issues with the build. If you're one of those people who knows Sunny 16 well or can carry around a light meter on their phone and figure stuff out from there, then this is one of the most perfect cameras for you.” Buy ...

National Highways' first Chief Safety Adviser has told the latest Highways Voices podcast that “things have to be addressed” when it comes to the perception of safety on smart motorways. As the Government announces a pausing of the rollout of any new All Lane Running motorways while safety data is assessed, Professor Nick Reed told the podcast that while statistically they are a safe form of motorway, “there is real risk, and there is also perceived risk, and we have to go about addressing both of those things”. Professor Reed, whose first project in the industry was related to the active traffic management solution on the M42, was in no way downplaying the need to address safety issues saying, “there have been some tragic incidents on smart motorways, and that's unacceptable. The target is zero harm, and that means things there are things that have to be addressed. “I think my role is making sure the network is used as best as it possibly can be, all the while heading towards that goal of zero harm.” The interview talks about his new role, what we can learn from driverless technology to make cars and roads safer now, learning from other countries' innovations and why his position as an independent adviser may help to get more ideas flowing. The podcast also features a summary of some of the stories you'll see on the Highways News website, and a very poignant “Adrian's Accolade”. Unsurprisingly, Counter-Strike nailed the top spot on his list of games, while the iconic football series FIFA earned a spot for helping him keep in touch with his family. On this episode we had a great opportunity to catch up with Richard Gamble, the pioneer of the Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer, which is to be built between the M42, M6, HS2 and Birmingham airport and which will become visible to approximately half a million people a week once complete. The architecture is configured into a Moebius strip comprising of a million bricks, each one linked to a testimony of answered prayer – in written, audio or video form. Richard's heart is for the stories of answered prayer to be told in much more accessible ways and to make them far more widely available to anyone, through visiting the structure. A Moebius strip is an infinite loop which speaks of the eternal nature of God; and furthermore, because the strip effectively only has one surface, no-one can be left on the outside. People are able to share their testimony at www.eternalwall.org.uk and these can be linked with the bricks via an app that can be downloaded at the visitor centre. It will be possible to explore answered prayer in thematic ways, such as navigating difficult seasons of life, illness, issues with fertility, struggles with provision, enduring suffering or waiting for long times for prayers to be answered. The prayers featured will cover all areas of life and the app can also interactively bring up prayers from all parts of the globe and from different times in the past. The app links the position of your phone against the Eternal Wall and then presents the prayer back to the phone upon request. The Eternal Wall Of Answered Prayer pushes the boundaries of architecture and technology and aims to collate a million testimonies about prayer. The project is also the first ever crowd-funded landmark in the world. Richard originally heard from God 17 years ago and has seen so many answered prayers in the journey from the original conception up to today. He reports some astonishing testimonies from different people who heard independently from God about the Eternal Wall and offered their support, particularly regarding provision of land for the project – land now worth £1.7m. Richard comments on the obvious parallels between the Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer and the book of Nehemiah: how different groups draw together to build something with God's help, and how we navigate those who resist. We touch on the miraculous continuity woven into the concept of the wall, where testimonies from it have contributed to a rise in faith which then in turn have led to further answered prayers – the presence of one brick literally leading to the emergence of another! Richard also envisages going beyond a million testimonies, as bricks have 6 sides! Before closing in prayer for everyone listening, Richard also wisely advises those waiting continually for a prayer to be answered to keep our gaze on the person we pray to i.e. Jesus, and not the next time of prayer or meeting or event. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/elim-mpower/message

Why is the "Miracle on 14th Street" Bus Rapid Transit Line Such a Miracle?

If you’re even a casual follower of the urbanist blogosphere, there’s a good chance you’ve already heard about the “Miracle on 14th Street.” That’s what transit advocates have been calling New York’s newest bus rapid transit line, which has fought its way through lawsuits from irate neighbors to become what Citylab calls “the first glimpse of a true bus-centric street in America’s largest city.” But this project is about more than just paint: car traffic is now banned on 14th street for most hours of the day, and with the road all to itself, the M14 Bus is now running at more than twice the speed of the M42. But here’s what’s really stunning Strong Towns advocates about this story: the fact that it’s considered miraculous at all. On today’s Upzoned, Chuck and Kea are back to break down why simple policy and paint-driven transportation improvements like the 14th street makeover aren’t more common in American cities, from federal funding structures that make it easier to build a massive light rail project than incrementally improve a bus schedule, to pop culture that makes riding the bus the butt of too many national jokes. And then we dig a little deeper and explore the range of even humbler transportation improvements our communities are leaving on the table—and a few instances where, despite what you think, a transportation fix isn’t what your community needs at all. Then in the Downzone, Chuck and Kea talk about their favorite recent reads: For Chuck, Malcolm Gladwell’s latest exploration into the nuances of human communication, and for Kea, an audibook by a beloved Tennessee novelist read for 9 blissful hours by Tom Hanks.

Modern lens adapters and how they can benefit your creativity and make you less dependant on camera brands.   This episode is sponsored by: Skylum and Luminar 2018 - The most innovative photo editor for Mac and PC. This More Gear Topic will be about lens adapters and you may be surprised what kind of options are out there today because this segment has really seen some interesting innovation far beyond a simple metal mount adapter from a decade ago. And it would not surprise me if you will start to look around for vintage lenses to give it a try after you’ve listened to this show.   Gear that Marco discussed in this episode:   Basic lens adapters without optical elements or electronic connectors for aperture control. These are best used for vintage manual focus lenses with physical aperture rings around the lens:   FotodioX Pro Lens Mount Adapter for M42 to Canon EF-Mount cameras: ca. $10 https://bhpho.to/2pqgVQ0 FotodioX Olympus OM Pro Lens Adapter for Fujifilm X-Mount Cameras: ca. $23 https://bhpho.to/2psLeFp Vello Olympus OM Lens to Micro Four Thirds Camera Lens Adapter: ca. $40 https://bhpho.to/2pyKor5     Mechanical MF lens adapter for lenses without an aperture ring. These adapters have an extra set of aperture blades that allow you to stop down the lens without having to activate the internal electronic aperture blades inside the lens:   Vello Canon EF/EF-S Lens to Fujifilm X-Mount Camera Lens Adapter with Aperture Control: ca. $70 https://bhpho.to/2FWaBG1 Vello Canon EF/EF-S Lens to Micro Four Thirds Camera Lens Adapter with Aperture Control: ca. $60 https://bhpho.to/2DKw3ff   Fully automatic adapters allow the use of electronic lenses on different mount systems. Such as Canon EF lenses to Sony E Mount. The AF and aperture control are enabled when using these adapters:   Metabones T Smart Adapter for Canon EF or Canon EF-S Mount Lens to Select Micro Four Thirds-Mount Cameras: ca. $400 https://bhpho.to/2ptLJ2d Metabones Canon EF/EF-S Lens to Sony E Mount T Smart Adapter (Fifth Generation): ca. $400 https://bhpho.to/2psQusF Speed booster adapters are another alternative that can offer two advantages:   An internal lens element reduces the image size before it hits the sensor - effectively increasing your field of view and eliminating the crop factor. This can be very useful to maintain the field of view of a full frame lens on crop sensor cameras such as APS-C or m4/3. With these adapters, a 35mm FF lens can give you a FOV close to 35mm on your APS-C or m4/3 sensor camera. By bundling more light and sending it to the sensor, you can also gain an additional stop (or more) of light and reduce higher ISO values in low light.   Metabones Canon FD Lens to Fujifilm X-Mount Camera Speed Booster ULTRA: ca. $450 https://bhpho.to/2DJOL6x   Metabones Olympus OM Lens to Fujifilm X-Mount Camera Speed Booster ULTRA: ca. $450 https://bhpho.to/2ptH68h   Metabones T Speed Booster XL 0.64x Adapter for Full-Frame Canon EF-Mount Lens to Select Micro Four Thirds-Mount Cameras: (1.3 stops more light) ca. $650 https://bhpho.to/2FXQcQJ More links related to this episode:   Here is the complete B&H lens adapter section: https://bhpho.to/2DJqwWr   And here are some used manual lenses from the B&H used lens department: https://bhpho.to/2FQXVUW For more information on Marco Larousse follow him on: Website: www.MarcoLarousse.com Twitter: @HamburgCam Facebook: www.facebook.com/MarcoLarousse1 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/marco.larousse/ Follow PPN here: Website: http://www.photopodcasts.com/podcasts Twitter: @Photopodcasts Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/photopodcasts/ Please support our show by using our B&H affiliate link (click here) that will not cost you a penny more than when you are buying at B&H without our link. It's taken a while, but we actually got round to recording a new Codec Call… mainly because we were stuck in a traffic jam coming back from EGX 2017, and when you've a couple of hours stuck in a small metal box with nothing but your impressions of the show you've just spent 8 hours walking around, it's pretty much the only sensible thing to do.  Having immersed ourselves in UK gaming culture for the day and satiated our desire for some new games to muck around in, it's time to let you know what we made of it all. In this long awaited episode we talk all about: Far Cry 5 GT Sport Missing our junctions on the M42 and driving miles the wrong way Strange Brigade Stuart getting beaten by Keeley Project CARS 2 Blocked motorway lanes The noise of passing traffic Andy's terrible racing skills… karma after last year's gloating Wolfenstein II interview eSports Is this the last Codec Call? The Hubble Space Telescope is famous for its beautiful images of celestial objects - from planets in our own Solar System to far away galaxies. The Orion Nebula (known to astronomers as Messier object 42, or M42) is a cloud of dust, gas, and stars. It's actually visible with the naked eye, located in the "sword" of the constellation Orion. The nebula contains both an open cluster of stars known as the Trapezium, and many stellar nurseries. Because of this, it's of interest to scientists who want to learn more about how stars are born. And we don't mean the kind out in Hollywood! (We know, that's a terrible joke.) Astronomer Massimo Robert from the Space Telescope Science Institute has dedicated a lot of his research to the Orion Nebula, and he talked to us about the creation of a breathtaking mosaic of it made with data from the Hubble Space Telescope.
