Despite mineral production never having dominated the economies of Central American countries, change appears to be on the horizon. On The LatinNews Podcast this week, we talk to Paul Harris, Americas editor for Mining Journal, Senior editor for Kitco and organizer of the Colombia Gold Symposium to hear his thoughts on upcoming decisions in El Salvador, Costa Rica and Panama. Firstly, President Bukele's proposal to walk back his country's 2017 total ban on metal mining in El Salvador and encourage multinational firms to exploit gold deposits, meanwhile, Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves submitted a bill to the unicameral National Assembly to reverse the ban on open-pit mining in that country. And, despite massive social protests in Panama in 2023, due to allegations of serious environmental contamination surrounding a copper mine there, President Mulino looks set to revisit the question of this closure. We ask Paul Harris about the possible outcomes of each circumstance, whether this may shake up attitudes to mining in Mexico and also extend our conversation to include the probabilities of a new mining code being released in Colombia in 2025. Space companies bring high-paying high-tech jobs and create revenue for local businesses, and municipal and state governments. They can lessen the brain drain from rural localities. Thing is, it's got to be the right fit - the right business plan for the right community - or the business may not even break ground, let alone launch. Laura Winter speaks with U.S. Representative Don Beyer of Virginia's 8th congressional district; Christie Mastric a staff reporter with the Mining Journal, the newspaper of record in Michigan's Upper Peninsula; and Ryan McDevitt, CEO of Vermont's Benchmark Space Systems.

Other achievements include the co-authorship of The Goldwatcher: Demystifying Gold Investing, a book published with John Katz in 2008.Frank & U.S. Global Investors have looked beyond traditional markets, too – investing in the first publicly-traded cryptocurrency mining firm, HIVE, in 2017. Tom welcomes back Frank Holmes, CEO and Chief Investment Officer of U.S. Global Investors. Frank discusses why the election results and a split house may be the perfect scenario for the stock market and the ideal scenario for gold. G20 Central bankers have been functioning as a cartel since 2008 by synchronizing taxation and regulation. Now they are playing with MMT, zero interest rates, and monetary stimulus. However, they have redefined the CPI, and today if you use the old model, inflation is running at close to eight percent. Smart people are buying real assets like art, gold, silver, mining equities, and bitcoin. Frank discusses the PMI index and how it reflects forward industrial demand. He expects a robust economy over the next six months. The government is spending trillions, and when that happens, gold rises dramatically. Gold could quickly go to $4000 due to the amount of debt creation. Frank points out that gold has been positive 17 years out of the last 21 and has outperformed the S&P 500 by 2.5 times. This lockdown has brought many Millenials to invest in the more speculative side of the stock market. Many are investing in ETF's and junior stocks. Gold stocks are showing up along with other common stocks due to their free-cash-flow. Institutions and big investors are starting to take notice. Frank discusses the crypto markets and how Hive Blockchain is performing very well as a stock market proxy for Bitcoin and Ethereum. A conversation with Frank Holmes, CEO of US Global Investors US Global Investors. Is a boutique investment management company. It specialises in actively managed equity and bond strategies, and has a longstanding history of expertise in gold and precious metals, natural resources and emerging markets.Holmes started his career by graduating from the University of Western Ontario with a bachelor’s degree in economics, then working for some larger firms. He decided to go out on his own with a small group of "highly successful entrepreneurs," with an investment firm in the world capital of mining: Toronto (60% of global mining finance). He purchased a controlling interest in US Global Investors in 1989 and became CEO 1999. He was the 2006 Mining Journal mining fund manager of the year; he clearly knows a thing or two about investing and general market dynamics and is a gold-focussed investment mind.Today, he regularly goes on major news broadcasters like CNBC, Bloomberg, BNN and Fox Business, and he has also been profiled by the FT.The Red Dinosaur behind Holmes, designed by a famous Chinese sculpture artist, is a social/political statement that China is making everything for the world, and the T-Rex represents that China is "eating the world." Holmes believes the Chinese are monopolising all manner of commodities, production and industry. Whilst the dollar is weak right now, Holmes thinks America will get through this because of its unique DNA of adaptability, even though all of the G20's finance ministers and their central bankers are functioning like a currency-defacing cartel. He was one of the first fund managers to make use of digitisation, scientific processes and a systematic approach towards investment decisions rather than the historical norm of reputation and bluster. Investors could learn a thing or two from this. Homes thinks a vaccine for COVID-19 would be a game-changer for market sentiment, but he doesn't think it would change the current bull run gold is on. If Biden wins, taxes will be raised and "radical left politicians" will put Biden under immense pressure. All in all, it will be bad for the stock market. We will have to "see what happens." A lot of people won't admit they are voting for Trump, hence the polling numbers VS Clinton last time out.Since the gold peak in 1980, the definitions of inflation and Consumer Price Index (CPI) have changed 3 times says Holmes. If one was to use the CPI number in 1980 today, gold should be US$7,000/oz. Inflation has gone up, rendering the old indicator meaningless. The algorithm for the old CPI number is no longer relevant. Driven by maths and quantum, Holmes looks at the centre deviation moves over a rolling 12-month period, going back over a decade, and he looks at 60-days going back 5-years. We are up "two standard deviations over 60-days," and we are up "one deviation over a rolling 12-months." Mathematically, this means there is an 80% probability that we will have a 10% correction over the next 60-days. It is likely to trackback to c. US$1,800/oz, but Holmes thinks the long trend will continue.Company Page: http://www.usfunds.com/ Explore More Here: cruxinvestor.comJoin our Club's waitlist: club.cruxinvestor.comFor FREE unbiased investment information, follow us on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook:https://twitter.com/cruxinvestor https://www.linkedin.com/company/crux-investor/ https://www.facebook.com/cruxinvestor
Tom welcomes returning and always interesting guest Frank Holmes. Frank is the CEO and Chief Investment Officer of U.S. Global Investors. Frank discusses how the fifty and two hundred day moving averages act as essential signals for big institutional money. When these signals cross, they start to notice since they prefer to having the wind in their sails. Gold has recently broken through a nine-year high as the fear trade is active due to the Fed's excessive printing. Gold will be the best currency going into 2021, and $2000 gold seems inevitable for this year. Frank discusses the proven manipulation in the futures market and the comments on the lack of prosecution. Many Millenials being stuck at home have taken up trading during this pandemic. The Jets ETF has seen significant investment by this generation in recent months. With COVID-19 challenging the world, the term sustainability has a new feel to it. A number of those in the resources sector have simply been unable to sustain operations with mines being closed down or production suspended due to the spread of the virus. In this episode of Fair & Square, Charlie Jack, Hudson Sandler’s Head of Natural Resources speaks to prominent miners and developers, who share their insights on ESG - what investors are demanding, and how the industry must position itself for the next generation of millennial investors. We also hear from the World Gold Council, Mining Journal and The Bishop of Birmingham, the latter playing a key part in the Church of England’s role in driving change in the sector. They share their thoughts on the fast evolving and accelerating ESG imperative in mining.

Technical skills alone are not enough to prove you’re the best in the mining industry. Have you tried tapping into your leadership potential? This could set you apart from the other, especially if you want to climb up the corporate ladder. In this episode of “Dig Deep” The Mining Podcast, I talk to Nick Clarke, the Chief Executive Officer of Central Asia Metals, PLC. From mining engineering to management, Nick’s got the best of both worlds. Nick shares his journey in the early years as a mining engineer in South Africa earning his stripes before entering management where he explains how you can be successful in your career. He continues to elaborate on how to make a mine operation work and be profitable which he has successfully done a few times. He also talks about the fundamentals of operating a mine and what to look out for and not blame the external environments why you can’t succeed. KEY TAKEAWAYS Nick shares how he made the transition from mining engineering to management. Nick spent a few years in South Africa during the 1970s. Though it was difficult to learn the trade since he was new and away from home, he was determined to do so. Nick was attracted with the opportunity to travel that's why he pursued mining engineering. During his time, there were a lot of opportunities for emerging professionals overseas. But today, young graduates are having a hard time getting a job posting. Nick was named CEO of the year by the Mining Journal back in 2013. Nick says it meant a lot for him to receive the award since his shift, though fulfilling, was tough. He went from running a small group of people in the mine to running the whole team of the company. He learned the trade and was eager to be worthy in his new role. Metals go in cycles. Metal prices don't continually increase. Do your sums and work it out so if the prices get too low, you can still stay in business. Nick's advice for mining companies: "Don't go overleverage. Keep your loans manageable. Stay with a bite size. Stay comfortable... where if it doesn't go right, it's not gonna kill the company." BEST MOMENTS "Your college degree doesn't give you an automatic right to anything. Put your back into and do some hard yards. Learn the craft." "You always get challenges. You get people that are not fit for the role. Management requires you to ensure that you deal with that. You can't brush it under the carpet anymore." "Surround yourself with people that are better than you if you can."
